Rear Back protector / sticker? - Sony Xperia X Compact Accessories

HI folks, I've found the back of my X Compact to be pretty bad at collecting scratches - much worse than my Lumia 720 (wish more manufacturers would copy that design idea of a replaceable body!!) Anyway, I want a protective and/or grippy sticker of some sort. Ebay and Amazon have nothing to offer so far as I can tell, apart from metal plates for magnetic dash mounts. Any ideas? I would have thought there would be some kind of rubber sticker you could buy but no luck. Any ideas?

Just type xperia x compact skinobi in amazon. They make full body skins for the phone. I think amazon only carries the clear and carbon fiber one though. You can also google skinobi and their website will pop up with more styles/options.

Hi,
in germany there is a frim which produce curved foil for the front and backside :
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B06XZCD6ZG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The problem is, that die foil isnt hard. So if you have bubbles under the foil and you press to much, the foil get damaged. I try ist with a little less power and the last bubbles gone away from semself after 2 days. It protects the full screen und full backcover.
Greetings Kullino

I got this skin for the back of my phone, which makes it much easier to hold and resists fingerprints a lot better than the shiny back. It also came with stickers for the sides, but I just used the one for the back, which adds texture and friction.

sorry this took so long, here's the back sticker. I've actually now put on the additional ones on the sides for extra friction in my car dock (it was sliding down with each bump, but holds better now)

Very late response, but I've been using TPU case which protects back, sides, and gives a very small lip on front to keep screen off flat surface if laid on face.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M1HIQ5C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
case is soft and grippy, very happy with the result after 6 months.
very inexpensive <$10.

No need; apply wax polish. I used Novus Fine Scratch Remover (#2), but I would think car wax would work just as well. I used it to remove some marred patches from when I dropped the phone on hardwood floor and it skidded a bit, and not only did those patches disappear, but so did the fine scratches.
I don't think this would be wise for the screen, however, as it would probably harm the oleophobic coating.

Agree with above poster, can a mod fix this?
Nice case! ive also ordered 1 last week at PDAir, the 1 without a screen, so easy acces, but fewer protection. I am hoping its more solid so i can put it in my back pocket without getting a red face everytime i realize i accidently put it there...
When did you order it and did it took long (i am eager to get mine, but now hope is gone till monday or tuesday...)
I disagree.
The "Cases" thread is too long and too complicated for discussing any one specific case.
Anyway I ordered mine just a moment ago and would very much like to hear how quick was the shipment, how snug is the fit and how reassuring the neoprene feels
It's a shame they opted for a plastic screen protector instead of either a window-less aluminum door or a transparent cover that lets you work with the touchscreen.

mohasea,
How thick is the plastic cover over the screen?
Does the plastic cover flex?
Do you think the plastic cover would prevent the screen being cracked if dropped screen down on ummm concrete?

I totally agree, wish they had a solid aluminum front door instead of the window cut-out covered in plastic or the other option they have of no plastic window cut-out. I would order one now, even not having my Leo yet, just because the front door was solid aluminum.
I am going to contact PDair and see if they would leave a few front doors out of the cnc cutter and have a full cover aluminum
Would you like one too, Duperman ?
Thank you,

I have ordered an open screen case despite it may not fully protect the screen. HD2 has a glass screen and it is hard enough against scratch as what has been in iphone.

I'm debating whether to go with their leather flip case or this aluminum case...
I got this case and immediatly wished there was no plastic screen on the front door. So, I held it over some boiling water for about 2 mins and and then used my thumb nail (not kidding it was easy) to pry the plastic from the metal. The whole lot peeled off easily, i replaced the foam into the case and BAM perfect case. (be careful not to rip the foam, but if you do it will still stick back. also the foam stretched out a bit but pushed back into shape no problem. TIP: Work from the front side of the case, wedge your nail into the seem and loosen it all the way around. If it starts to get tough again, hold it over steam for a while longer.
Also.. when the plastic was still inplace and the case door was closed, there would be random screen presses and that was not cool, however now that the plastic is out, i can leave the door closed, press when I want too, AND there is no random case presses
I know this sounds like a poor fix, but it worked awesome and it looks like it was SUPPOSED to come this way.
Now all i need is for my zag shield (front only) to show up and im perfectly protected (minus water damage dammit)
awesome case guys im not kidding. you dont have to put the nubbin on in the back either so it doesnt add much bulk to teh phone. good luck yo.
Got mine too and I use the black open faced aluminum for local use and insert the whole unit;
aluminum case and all into the Maxpedition "Rat" wallet for carrying on belts etc.... http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/...&idcategory=11
Like it alot....
FWIW
well, do not kill me if I say so .. but it is ugly as hell.
I do not say that it does not protect the phone, or the the finishing it's not ok .. but from a slim phone with a huge screen, it looks like a bullet proof brick with a screen.
The whole idea of an elegant smartphone it's gone.
Small question: what do you hate about the original leather case?
It is elegant, slim easy to use and protect the phone in normal use conditions or small accidents.
Capdase Alumor Metal Case
Bought this silicon w/ aluminium backcover case by CAPDASE in Hong Kong, adding a more "solid" feel over the pure silicon case. It comes with a CAPDASE screen protector as well.
http://www.mobimega.com/capdase-alumor-metal-case-htc-hd2.html
Beware that the silicon case may not glue well to the aluminum backcover (I think it's the factory problem) which may leave a small gap between them when you put the phone in. I have to apply some glue to fix that myself. Apart from the case is nice and not too costly.

Hi,
I am seriously thinking about ordering one for my Desire (A8181).
But what I'm not able to find, is how it works. I mean, you seem to describe the case as a silicone skin, with a metal plate sticked to it.
I thought it was more like a silicone skin with another semi-case to "clip" over the silicon....
Can you confirm if I am right or wrong?
And can you post multiple angles pictures?
Thank you, it would be much appreciated!

HTC Leo Leather Case for £2.99

Hi Guys, just received this in today's post and only cost me £2.50 (was ordered on Boxing Day, they are now costing £2.99) including postage and packing from Hong Kong. My partner also bought one for her Tocco and the total cost was £5 by Paypal. What a bargain.
It is superb, leather, and exactly as described with magnetic catch. Leo fits perfectly but unfortunately the screen guard is a midge's too large but it isn't needed anyway.

Nice find How long did shipping take, and I presume the magnet doesn't effect the screen, or the compass?
It took exactly 10 days from ordering to delivery this morning. My partner's brother bought one for his HTC and showed me on Christmas Day. I ordered mine the next day and it arrived this morning. It's brilliant, especially as it was only £2.50 (although selling now for £2.99). Includes case, screen protector and screen wiper.
Magnet doesn't affect the screen as it's on the flap. I have tried the compass and the needle is affected if you move the magnet over or under the phone.
Regards, Baz
That is so darned cheap!!! I am impressed!
Thanks Baz - Ordered
I will use it for those 'rough & tumble' times when the phone needs more than my (ill fitting) Zagg

One of the pictures lower down show a plastic section that it clips into.
so it does, i did not hover the mouse, silly me.
Look ok for 3 of the queens pounds, i'm havin that.
TATA
Just taken delivery of one of these cases and I must say it's very good value. OK it's not 'true' leather but bonded leather so probably won't be as durable in the long-term as top-grain case, but unless you're extreme in your use of the HD2 then it'll probably last the 18-24 months of a typical phone contract.
The quality is very good and it fits very well, the plastic housing into which the phone fits offers great additional protection around the external perimeter of the phone so will reduce the risk of screen damage should the phone be accidentally dropped. The aperture for the camera lens in sufficiently deep enough to cover the lens cover so you don't get the annoyance of the sharpish lens from rubbing when in your pocket or on a nice polished table! Importantly (for me) it doesn't add too much bulk to the phone so it still slips easily into a shirt pocket and the phone can be easily popped-out so I can place it on my desktop cradle or in-car holder.
The finish looks very professional with the light grain being very similar to the grain on the original HTC leather pouch. It's a little more shiny than the original pouch finish and is in black, which I personally think suits the phone better. The stitching on mine is finished in a deep golden thread (slightly darker that the thread used on the HTC pouch) which adds a nice detail. The inside of the case is finished with a fine man-made suedette lining which shouldn't scratch or mark the phone in any way. There's no pockets for business cards or SD cards, but these would only add to the bulk and are not needed for most users I would have thought.
The fit is excellent and the phone fits into the hosing very snugly without the need for annoying clips or straps across the face of the phone. The magnetic clasp seems to hold very well and closes with a reasuring 'snap'. The volume control, Micro USB connector and headphone socket are all easily accessible when the case is open, although annoyingly there's no pass-through hole in the case to attach headphones when the case is closed. Apart from that and the compromise on the leather, there's little to fault this case and for the very low price you really can't beat it for smart looks and a good degree of protection for your phone.
In addition to the case, I was also supplied with a screen protector (with small cleaning cloth) which looks to be of reasonable quality although I haven't fitted this myself as I find these tend to lift at the edges and also reduce the responsiveness of the screen.
Given the low purchase price, I'll probably take a tool to the case and cut a whole for the headphone jack, I just need to find a suitable grommet/ferule or means to seal the hole so it doesn't fray or look too untidy. Any hints or tips on how perhaps to achieve this this would be welcome.
For £2.99, this is a no brainer. Just orderd mine.

Still waiting for mine (ordered 6th Jan...), so not sure what the material is in that area.
At your own risk,
If 'leather', use a belt hole punch.
Or a small SHARP drill (& if its hard plastic).
If (also) fabric, put a dab of super glue on the fabric, to seal the weave, first & let it dry before holing it.
If a man made woven fabric, heat the hole punch, so that it will fuse the cut edges of the hole when pierced.
Metal grommet / ferule not recommended in case it causes a short when inserting / removing the headphone jack. Over a period of time, might remove the gold plating off of a jack too.
Leather case
Picked up one of these a day or so after I got my device, same seller as OP.
The case is nice enough, have dropped it once already - no damage to the device thankfully. The front flap can fold all the way back round the device and be held there by the backside of the magnet in case you're watching a film/browsing/gaming and don't want the flap in the way.
The only downside that I can see is that it's an absolute git to get out of the plastic 'cradle' (more like a bleeding strait jacket) if you want to change memory card/battery or just get it out to show it off.
any comments?
was looking to get something along these lines, with slots for cards so I don't have to carry along my wallet at times, but without the belt clip/knob
the hand stitched cow leather is customizable but at 100euros, alittle out of my budget

which would you guys prefer? worry that the tan one might block the sensor as well

Matte battery cover?

Hi guys,
I've seen the DIY project which is a pretty decent looking alternative but I was wondering if anyone has seen an actual Matte Battery Door yet? It'd be cool to have one like the Epic 4G's which still said Google on the back. (I think the Google looks oddly classy )
My searches have come up kinda empty so thought I'd ask.
Mini rant.... WHY?! WHY???! Is the back cover so prone to scratches.. it been only a week and a half or so and already I've seen scratches developing, in fact another happened just today.. it's really the one and only thing I don't like about it.. not sure what they were thinking..
Well if anybody has seen alternatives please let me know!
Thanks!

you can get the invisibleshield dry from any of the sprint stores-- it's all they carry.
if you get the invisibleshield from ZAGG, they send the "wet" version, which is the cover everyone's used to.
the dry version is matte, and thinner, and doesn't use spray/sponge/liquid. it's not as "tacky" or sticky as the wet version, and you can still clearly see the google/samsung logo.
just be real sure to follow the instructions, squeegee from the center out, and give it a couple of days to fully cure. i saw a bunch of micro bubbles and what look like flaws after applications, and it looked like the dry shield didn't fully seal around the tiny dots on the cover, but after a couple of days it was perfectly sealed in. don't squeegee too hard, especially around the curves. it'll stick, and give it a day or two.
pretty happy with it, and it comes with the regular clear/tacky/sticky front shield, too, which is also applied dry. i found the squeegee to be a bit too stiff, and it's easy to dent and stretch the shield when squeegeeing it out.
ZAGG says to keep the device off, cuz the heat or something will affect curing. i just left mine on after application, and everything is perfect. there's orange peel, but it's minimal. no problems with touch sensitivity, and if anything i think it's better because fingerprints and oil don't show up.
i wonder if it's even worth shielding the front, though. i have an old blackberry that had nothing on it, and the screen i think is plastic, and i treated it like crap. no scratches.
but yeah, just go to a sprint store. they have em. best buy around here only sells the front shield. i prefer the dry matte back because it's thinner, and still does a good job.
fyi: ZAGG's guarantee and return policy are top notch. registering on their site is simple, and they'll ship out a replacement pretty quickly, and you just mail back your old shield as proof. they don't care what condition it's in. before i just ripped off an old shield and slapped it on a piece of paper.

So the Nexus S still doesn't have any third party back covers or battery doors? I can't stand the shiny plastic back. All I see on ebay are oem battery doors that are the same thing. Don't want to use a sticker/shield or dip.

Correct.
The white version of the Nexus S actually has a very nice textured back on it. I wanted the white color to begin with but after seeing (and feeling) the difference between the backplate on the black version versus the white version, I much prefer the white one. The black one has no grip to it and, like the OP said, it scratches way too easily.
Yeah I thought about the zagg body shield but they unfortunately only had the screen. I decided to grab the wet one instead and I've never had better luck applying a screen protector.. heh the "wetness" really makes it easy to get the bubbles out and it cures awesome.
As for the battery cover.. it's already got a few scratches, but on top of that in the lower left corner it doesn't seem to snap in very securely, even in general use when tapping on the lower left part of the phone you can feel the battery door.. "click" a little bit as if its not latched properly, it makes a audible click sound as well.
I resolved this issue by putting a very thin strip of scotch tape on the inside of the door along the edge which produces just enough pressure to keep the clicking from happening and it feels more secure. (No you can't see it )
SO I'll probably just buy a new battery door eventually and use a body shield.. hopefully the new one will latch a bit more securely as well. It's not a big big deal, and the DIY fix by me is definitely just me nitpicking the tiny click feeling but still.. I think Samsung makes good products most of the time but they really should step up the build quality a little bit.
Thanks for the suggestions though guys
Actually I think I'm going to try the plasti dip on the existing cover to.. I could see that helping the latch as well because it would be just the tiniest bit thicker it would seem.

I would buy this in a heart-beat.
Wouldn't heat be an issue? My play can warm up a little bit just being idle in my pocket on a warm day.
Aluminum would help dissipate the heat quicker than the plastic cover which is more of an insulator.
I have doubts though about the durability and strength of a similarly thick aluminum cover. It would have to be much thicker than the plastic one to be of an protection.
Theres already one on ebay just search it
sent from my Xperia PLAY running DiXperia
All those on ebay are cases for the phone, i think we're talking about a replacement back panel here.
What i would REALLY like to see is a complete housing in aluminium, preferably anodized matte black.
Or somethign like the HTC one's body: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/HTC-One-S-Strong-Case-Ceramic-Metal-Process,news-14451.html
question is how will you put it on without damaging the tabs on the phone? we are able to put the back cover because it is flexible.

Very good point. Press tabs will require a flexible material like plastic. Most metal panels i've seen fit with a sliding lock.
This is one project that doesn't seem likely to see the light of day...
I was indeed thinking of a back cover replacement, and with an airbrushed-like look.
Aluminum cases produce Faraday cages (basically the device becomes shielded from radiation, including the wifi and 3g waves). Apple (first iPad 1 batches) and particularly Asus (Transformer Prime) have learnt that lesson at high costs.
doesn't the htc one that i mentioned earlier have an aluminum shell?

Xperia play antenna placement is probably not optimised for a metal housing. The Sony Xperia S would have more luck on that matter due to it's (semi) external antenna.
+1 on the antenna topic. I dismantled my Play once and the antennas are on the back, it would be a very bad idea to use an all-aluminium back cover, unless you don't use 3G, wifi, GPS, etc...
I wish they had use the chrome all around, not just the sides, even if its fake chrome.

You're kidding right? You actually want an all-chrome phone?
I'd actually rather see Xperia PLAY get a battery cover that's made out of a grip-improving non-glossy matte material (like what the Xperia X10 has).
The Xperia Play battery cover is one of the worst parts of the phone. It's flimsy, plain and it attracts grime like a magnet. They need to improve it badly in a second iteration...
My favorite battery cover was the one on the Huawei Selina. While the phone itself is a piece of crap, the cover is firm, nice to handle and easy to remove.
Except for the chrome strips on the sides (and they weren't that bad), my zte blade/orange san francisco had such a nice rubbery matte finish. i hope manufacturers finally do the sensible thing and shift to matte finishes...

the "wanted" case project

Ok so i dont think many of us are impressed with the current available cases for out n7's
we seem to have to pick between protection-price-visual appeal.
we dont seem to have a case with all 3 .
so im implying my project idea,
im goin to check in at my old high school. where i remember in "Design&tech" we used "vacuum forming" machines to heat hard plastic sheets and re-mould them into covers and shapes over a pre-made wooden mould.
im goin to put forth an idea to create a case from shock-absorbent hard plastic front and back that either clip or screw closed. the next part of the project would be to imply some kind of clear glass screen area. one that conducts touch-responsiveness, good for display, and scratch/shatter resistance,.
im thinking after a few attempts we may be able to pre-cut the required "pattern" to perfectly fit to each edge while heat-moulding if so would could then attempt cutting the button/rocker area's then re-attaching them with a stretchy silicone between the actual button cover to make a professional finish to the buttons
so we would end up with a Hard shock resistant Full back/corner surface cover with clear scratch resistant full screen glass face and silicone set button rockers and attached plugs to insert into usb/headphone ports to keep out dust.
this is a 1 hour idea so far do you guys think its worth pursuing?
im think the school maybe interested as if this project works and can be made at a cheap price they could look into marketing it.
i would make sure xda'ers get a discount thou lol :good:
i too hate all the cases. ended up settling for a fitfolio which provides the protection i want without covering the edges of the screen.
however, the ideal case i think would be one that provide protection for corners, silver bezel (just the silver bezel, not wider), and raised edge for front protection. an added bonus would be a sturdy kickstand like the ones on the trident kraken case.
does it have to be hard plastic?
i think TPU material would be better for shock absorption.

I have an idea, we buy one of these or similar, then 2 small magnets in the nexus 7 back plate, then make a magnetically attached flap, like in the ipad

I like the idea, and maybe add groves in the front flap so we can stand the device up to watch movies too?

Ok so i dont think many of us are impressed with the current available cases for out n7's
we seem to have to pick between protection-price-visual appeal.
we dont seem to have a case with all 3

If you want to design one yourself go for it and let us see the results but don't try to get consensus on what is ideal because you will be waiting forever, you can't make a case that's all things to everybody.

Im just wondering if i mount magnets in the inside of the back cover on the left hand side, will it affect any of the electronics (they will be mounted near the corners so it doesn't trigger the magnet switch. Then i can get my mom to sew me a flap with magnets, and have a legit apple style "smart cover"
