Is it possible to flash a T-Mo S8 to the firmware found in unlocked phones? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

Hey fellas!
Question is in the title. Could we flash a T-Mo phone to make it look like the unlocked ones (basically eliminating all carrier bloat and branding from the software)?
If so, how would one go about doing this?

https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s8+/how-to/galaxy-s8-xaa-version-live-t3613013

Has anyone successfully reverted their phone back to 100% stock T-Mobile? I have been unable to after flashing the unlocked firmware (U1).

Yes it is possible and very simple. There's so many explanations on this forum but i'll let you how i went back 100%, was XAA, XAA, TMB and now TMB, TMB, TMB. Had flashed XAC Firmware but couldn't go back to T-Mobile fully with TMB U Firmware.
1. Download Factory Binary, EngBoot, modded Odin (PrinceComsy) and unmodded Odin.
2. Turn off phone
3. Hold down on Bixby button + power + volume down
4. Use unmodded Odin v3.12.7 and flash Factory Binary in AP section.
5. After the Phone reboots run the adb reboot bootloader (or turn off the Phone Hold down on Bixby button + power + volume down)
6. Use modded Odin (PrinceComsy) and flash the EngBoot
7. After the Phone reboots run the adb reboot bootloader (or turn off the Phone Hold down on Bixby button + power + volume down)
8. Use unmodded Odin and flash T-Mobile CSC in CSC section (Your Phone will boot with T-Mobile logo)
9. After the Phone reboots run the adb reboot bootloader (or turn off the Phone Hold down on Bixby button + power + volume down)
10. Use unmodded Odin and flash T-Mobile full SM-G955U/SM-G950U Firmware
That is what i did, now on T-Mobile 100% with all bloatware. I don't mind bloatware because I had poor network at work and some places while on XAA, XAA, TMB and i'm good with TMB, TMB, TMB.
Without bloarware:
For now If on 8+ flash T-Mobile SM-G955U1 Firmware with T-Mobile SM-G955U CSC, you'll have T-Mobile without bloadware, with WI-FI Calling, voLTE and HD Calling. I didn't keep it because Multi-line feature isn't working. If you don't mind Multi-line then go for SM-G955U1 with SM-G955U, the Phone is so smooth. Not sure if S8 has T-Mobile U1 Firmware yet, didn't try XAA U1.

Hey, thanks for this post. I have a Verizon S8+ model but flashed the unlocked firmware already but I'm still having a few issues and really need some help getting my phone to have all it's functionality. It's missing a few features and I'm having signal issues on the unlocked firmware so I want to turn it into a Tmobile phone. I will be forever in your debt if you can help me out here. I'm new to all this somewhat.
1. Will this method work on my phone in it's current state VZW model converted to Unlocked model?
2. When you say Flash Factory binary in AP section, does this just mean to open odin and add the entire downloaded file to the AP section and hit start? or?
3. In step 10 you say to flash full tmobile firmware. Does this mean use the BL, AP, CP, and CSC in odin? Or?
4. Where do I download the T-Mobile firmware? When I try on updato / sammobile there's a few different Tmobile s8+ files, do I just use the latest one?

The method is more less the same. For me I was changing it back to its T-Mobile original state, you're trying to convert yours from Varizon to T-Mobile.
Try this method, adds more so you can convert your Phone to your preferred carrier but the link below is for S8, look for 8+ file:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/switch-to-carrier-firmware-100-t3609487
Answer to your question.
Qn 1: Use the method in the link above.
Qn 2: Yes open Odin and add the entire file in the AP
Qn 3: Yes use BL, AP, CP, CSC and you can USERDATA_TMB in UMS
Qn 4: Check the link below for T-Mobile Firmware, 1AQEF is the latest

Awesome. Thank you so much. I think I am ready to try this but am still getting stuck on how to do steps 15-18 in the link you provided. I'm so close but I'm having a hard time deciphering what Open IME setting on factory binary means. I look at the unzipped factory binary file but don't see any IME setting or don't know what to look for exactly. Is this something I'll find in the zip file or is it an option presented in ODIN somewhere? This is the only thing holding me back from being confident enough to try this right now.
15. Open IME setting on Factory Binary
16. Type in *#243203855#
17. Select XAC
18. Click install
Edit: and how do I flash the engboot? Just add the entire file to odin, and which section?

You don't need to look in factory binary file, flash it as it is when the Phone starts it'll take you to that step where you'll do step 15.

There is no hardware difference and I did not notice any difference in signal strength, etc going from the T-Mobile and XAA unlocked US firmware. Both were working for WIFI calling and Volte but the T-Mobile version has video calling built into the dialer and T-Mobile apps like visual voicemail preinstalled. Other than that there is really no additional bloatware except Lookout security.
That being said, I returned the S8 yesterday though because I found the signal strength to be worse than my OPO- unfortunately at work I have a pretty bad signal in the corner of my building and was barely able to watch any Youtube videos during lunch, for comparison the OPO was able to buffer videos pretty effortlessly at 480p/720p. Unfortunately the inclusion of band 12 didn't seem to make any difference even though it should have given it an advantage over the OPO.

[Q] Unlocked ML2 to NE3 steps

As documented in the ATT Stock Firmware thread, if a phone has the ANDROID 4.3 ( I537UCUBML2 (4.3) ) release, steps to update/upgrade to 4.4 are as follows.
1. It may be possible to update normally via OTA using ATT sim and simply access Settings, About Device, Software Update
2. Download from the link above (ATT Stock Firmware Thread) the Android 4.4 ( I537UCUCNE3 (4.4.2) ) 444 MB file,
3. Rename the 444 MB file to update.zip
4. Set SG4A phone into Developer Mode and enable USB debugging
5. Move the update.zip to a microSD card and insert into phone
6. Hold down simultaneously Volume Down, Power and Home Button and wait for Stock recovery/Downloading menu to appear
7. Select update.zip and let phone update ML2 to NE3
Did I miiss anything ? Is everything above in correct sequence ?
Yes, I understand that the phone being Unlocked has no bearing on the outcome, the steps are the same with a locked vs unlocked device.
Yes, I understand I can root later and that it may not be possible to downgrade due to bootloader changes in this release but the goal here is simply to Update/Upgrade a Stock ATT Android 4.3 to 4.4
Thank you
Just documenting my progress....
While all my ML2 stock unrooted phones FIND the ATT update file (444 MB) simply by using About Device, Software Update and download this file just fine over WIFI, they all fail the actual update process.
Now am not sure why that is happening as they all progress to 29 percent update after reboot, then display Update failed/unsuccessful and reboot again, booting up to 4.3 ML2
Again, these are stock unrooted ATT i537 SG4A phones, only thing is that they are all Unlocked.
Am also not sure what will occur if I manually try to update via Stock recovery, Perhaps nothing bad at all, if even in the worst case these just fail and then reboot back to 4.3
Just how do I go about applying the downloaded NE3, now moved over to a microSD card ?
1. powered phone back on holding volume down, power and home and am sitting on "Downloading..Do not turn off target !!!"
2. had setup phone to developer mode, usb debuggin enabled and I had installed latest Samsung USB drivers on laptop

1. Volume Down + Power + Home gets me to warning message
2. Volume Up gets me to "Downloading......." message
3. Volume Up + Power does *nothing* and if I hold it for more than 5 seconds the phones shut Off.
Even if I try to just gently and briefly touch Volume Up + Power, nothing happens. The long hold does a shut down.
Have tried this now on 6 different SG4A phones running i537 and ML2 ATT Stock image
Phones are not rooted and unlocked, no mods ever done to any of them.

You have to look in the upper left corner screen, you will see, in blue, in very small letters, something like recovery loading or starting...as soon as you see that, release buttons, should load to recovery. I know on my phone, timing is everthing...too early and phone starts, too long and phone shuts off.

Volume up + power....I think other than using the stock recovery (you have to use it to abd sideload), you should be able to Odin ML2 and then take the OTA, provided you are on a carrier that sent it out...stateside means AT&T.

So even though I am running stock, un-modded, non-rooted, ATT ML2 v4.3 already, I need to re-do I537UCUBML2 all over ?
that seems odd,... being these are new phones but if ML2 must be applied on top of ML2, ok then ...
and yes, these are on ATT

There maybe something in your original 4.3 that won't allow update...wouldn't hurt to start with a fresh 4.3.
I started with a fresh ML2, downloaded the 1.2 GB image and used Odin 3.09 to flash
Phone works fine but can't seem to be able to master the subtle keypresses to run Stock Recovery and apply the 444 MB NE3 update to v4.4.2
As soon as I press Volume Up and Power after seeing the "Downloading...." phone either reboots or shuts off
Will keep trying

That's because you're using the key combo to enter download mode when you should be using the key combo to enter recovery. Search for the key combo you should be using, it's been posted a ton of times.
Found this video, it helped to figure it out
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8TOJkBOZfs
Interestingly, the 444 MB update from ML2 to NE3 using a microSD card wiped all settings on the phone, accounts, downloads, etc... but of course once signed in to google, restored all back in about one hour
towelroot also worked but not sure if it is designed NOT to be persistent in that I had to access it again when phone was deliberately turned off to enable SU again. perhaps that is by design. it does enable apparently SU for "this session only"

Video call and Android update

Me and my friends are Note 3 users. Their N3 's were bought locally here in the Philippines (N9005). Mine is a factory unlock AT&T N900A. All phones are Android 4.3 versions. I moticed that most of the times I don't have coverage network so I need to restart my N3 not like theirs. They were already updated their phones to Android 4.4.2 while mine is still the same. Plus I don't have the option to make a video call without using skype or tango. Please help!
While I'm not sure of your video call issue yet. Let's get you updated first and see if the video issue is fixed

Add the firmware file to AP
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked

[Q] How to revive a hardbrick Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900P?

I would like to ask if there is any possibility to unbrick it as I just got myself into trouble.
Initial states of phone:
Model : SM-G900P (supposingly, as it was shown in Odin, but within the device info and backside label is SM-G900F)
PDA & CP & CSC : G900FXXU1BOK2 (reflected via *#1234#)
Android 5.0 Lolipop
*Just in case, you are curious why this phone was in this stage, that is the original state of phone which I bought, it is refurbished, sold to me as G900F (ofc, being cheated) and that time I was not geek in phone and didn't realize it is a problem.*
*G900FXXU1BOK2 is not available in any website download so far.
Potential Cause of hard brick:
I noticed there is something not right about the PDA so forth, so I attempted to update everything with Flashfire(Rooted) with G900FXXU1CPGK downloaded from sammobile. (the reason that I didn't use Odin is because bootloader of G900P will automatically reject it with aboot error). And so Flashfire did everything.
Current states of phone:
1. Power button : system won't boot
2. Power + Vol Up + Home : Blank, no power, no recovery
3. Power + Vol Down + Home : Blank, no power, no download mode
4. Charger : Not charging
5. Odin3 is unable to detect the phone
6. adb is unable to detect the phone
I searched around Google and notice there are several options might work under this circumstance:
1. G900F phone: Mount bootloader recovery and .pit file into sd card and boot it with sd card into download mode, then re-flash everything (but this is a G900P phone, I can't find any BL recovery file associated with this model)

Much appreciate if anyone can enlight me with more viable options or ways to get this fix.

[Help] I think I just bricked my Note 9

I have a locked T-Mobile variant of the Note 9, Yesterday I updated to Pie using the method of applying the update file from firmware.science and everything went ok.
I didn't like pie after a few hours so I did my research to odin back to Oreo, got a hold of the latest odin build, samsung drivers and such and also the last Oreo firmware for the T-mobile variant.
I did everything I'm supposed and Odin flashed the firmware just fine no hiccups.
then the phone got off the download mode to restart and now it's been on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 secured by knox screen for almost 30 minutes, nothing happened so I tried to turn it off and It wouldn't until I pressed power + volume down but it only turner off for a second or two.
I have been trying to figure out if I did something wrong.. and maybe I did by forgetting to not doing a factory reset before doing the Odin back to Oreo.
I hope that isn't the case , since I'm not sure I am asking for help.
I was able to turn it off again by pressing power and volume down then quickly pressed volume down bixby and power and it entered download mode again.
I also tried to see if I could get it do the same for recovery but I can't.
and also I'm not even being able to turn it off ..
Any pointers, opinions would be really appreciated.

either you will need to be quick enough to switch from vol down and power ( once you feel the device vigrate from a forced reset) and then be very quick and vol up +bixby +pwr to get to recovery and choose shutdown phone to be able to go back to DL mode... OR wait till battery runs out, charge it for 10 mins and then do the DL mode procedure.
I just figured it out and somehow I was able to get it work!!
thanks a lot
now please a mod close the thread or delete it

well, didn't do much really, as I said on my OP I wasn't able to shut down the phone but I was able to press power/volume down to get it to restart while it turned off for that second I quickly pressed Power/volume down and bixby and then got back in download mode then I did Odin the firmware once again.
The instructions I was following were from Samfrew.com it said to hit the AP/PDA button to load a tar.md5 file from the firmware folder I extracted from their zip file then finally press Start.
Well I didn't follow such instructions this time I loaded every single tar.md5 file as every button on Odin.
Ex. AP to AP, BL to BL, CP to CP and so on but not the HOME_CSC since there isn't a button on Odin anyway.
flashed all that, it finished then Voila it rebooted just fine.
awesome, flashing the note 9 seems a bit more technical than the other flagships. I will give it a whirl. How do you like it so far.
i did something similar i updated my att to the csa7 pie update through an ota zip and it was working fine but notifications were not coming through so i tried to do another updated version of pie through an ota and it didnt work in my recovery menu theres something that says lacking storage boot i clicked that by accident and i pressed no so i backed out when i tried to boot my note 9 it started bootlooping and i now i cant get past setupconnection on odin i have downloaded almost every file and odin i can find to no avail any tips?

Did you fix it
If you have TWRP
Press Vol down, bixby and power
Or
Power, bixby, volume down.
Phone will turn off immediately press volume up, bixby and power then you'll go into TWRP.
Well at least it is worth it... especially when going to Oreo.. it is much better than PIE
Enjoy!

only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed

Hello I tried to root my galaxy note 9 and after rebooting I have this message "only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed"
I cannot go to download mode nor recovery mode. Does that mean the phone is bricked or is there a way to solve the issue?

you need to flash ketans fix right after installing twrp.
now since ure stuck in a floop
flash back to stock firmware. just hold vok down and Bixby while you plug USB to computer and you'll bounce back to downlaod mode.
get your lastest F firmware with samfirm tool 0.3.6
Google or search xda on how to use it. you might want to grab any European firmware like BTU csc code.( device should be SM-N960F)
in Odin 3.13.1
fill In all the slots. be sure for csc use csc.md5 not home csc...
once back up and running make sure you see OEM unlock again under dev options in system. if you go to software updates right before, and press the check button its should trigger to register device and cause OEM unlaock to reappear in dev options.
* for some it will only reappear in dev options 7-8 days later since last Odin complete flash.
so once its back stating that bootloader is alredy unlocked, flash twrp again with Odin. this time make sure you go directly to twrp recovery the second the flash is complete. either hold the phone and wait till Odin flashes the files and makes the phone reboot automatically, or in Odin position unstick phone autoreboot. the second you see the screen go black, hold vol up + Bixby + PWR . this should bring you to twrp. (if you untucked phone autoreboot, once flash is done, you'll have to vol down+pwr to shutdown phone then switch to the recovery button press:
vol up + Bixby +PWR till you see twrp.)
if you missed it and phone booted you may have the repeat all steps above again. you realy need to get the fone to boot recovery on the first try.
so once in twrp go to wipe then to format then type yes. then go to reboot menu and choose to reboot recovery, once back in twrp go to wipe and factory reset. then go to install and flash dr ketan's OEM fix P05 from the general discussion forum. also where you on pie firmware before ?
anyways once its flashed you can reboot and you should have a stock rooted phone. just grab magisk.apk v18 from that same page from ketans post. you can also install magisk v18.1 from their official site/github.
or instead of leaving twrp, flashed a rom then OEM unlock fix. rom devs tend to include it but maybe not all....

Thanks a lot "hold vok down and Bixby while you plug USB to computer" did the trick
I was trying vol down + bixby + power button
Many many thanks for the explanation and taking the time to reply to my post!
