VTR-L09 dual sim out of the box - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have purchased the dual sim variant of the P10, and have some battery drain issues. After alot of Googling and searching I have found that I own the VTR-L09 version of the phone, which is supposed to be a single sim variant, but my phone is dual sim out of the box. How is this possible? Did my carrier do something to the device to enable dual sim? Can this be the cause of high battery consumption?
Regards

Are you sure both sims actually work? The L09 has a tray for two sims, but only the first functions. I had to rebrand my L09 to L29 to make both of them work.
I doubt your battery issue is related. It could be a rogue app or Google Play Services. Did you install a battery monitoring app to see what the cause is of your battery drain? I like GSam Battery Monitor, but there are more.

Yes, I am 100% sure.

I have not yet tried an app like that, but will now. Thank you.

Can you please make a screen shot of "about this phone" at the bottom of the settings app? VTR-L09 should be single sim only, but you may have a carrier branded phone.
The real VTR-L29 has two sim modems, so it has also two IMEIs. VTR-L09 has only one modem with one IMEI but can read two sims. If you use dual sim on a (rebranded) VTR-L09, you have standby dual sim only.

Sure, here you go:
It is VTR-L09 and it has two IMEIs. What is the standby dual sim? I can receive and make calls/messages etc on both numbers at all times, but ahve to switch the primary card for data network i.e.
But even if it is "standby dual sim" is this the cause of the battery drain? My phone drains about 3-5% in ~30minutes give or take. I went to sleep yestarday with 100% battery, woke up 6 hours later with 60% left.
I tried that GSam Battery Manager, here is what I found (sorry, it wont let me paste in links, <10 posts and all):
As you can see in the last screenshot it reports the device is always awake, even though I lock it all the time, and have to re-enter pin/scan my finger each time I turn it on, and it says Wi-Fi is always on, even though I very rarely use Wi-Fi on my phone, since I have 20GB of free data on a 4G network, and keep my Wi-Fi turned off all the time.

The high phone power consumption is very unusual, unless you have been calling all the time. So you may be right that the battery drain is caused by the L09 rom while a L29 rom should have been flashed. I would recommend you to take the device back to the shop. Alternatively you can rebrand, but that involves unlocking your bootloader and may void warranty.

I did a factory reset on the phone, and re-setup everything as I've done before, except I can't remember if I did enable Wi-Fi+ before or not, but this time I didn't and consumption is normalized. Will see after a few hours to be sure.
But regarding the model/firmware, something is fishy. My wife owns a true VTR-L09 phone, and its firmware is far newer, although, when I try to update the software on my phone it says it's at its newest. And on the back of my phone it reads, model: VTR-L29. I will return the phone shortly to the shop, and have them sort this mess.

[Q]

I've been using CyanogenMod 10 on my Galaxy S i9000 for quite some time, and accepting the offered updates as they come in notifications. I used to use the experimentals and nightlies, but since the stable releases, I have only accepted them. But since the last two updates over the past two weeks, my phone now has the problem with being unable to save APNs and giving a message of No SIM Card. I understand these are related issues and was suggested to try APN Manager Pro to insert the APN data, but it won't even run, so I took the refund. SIM cards are ruled out as it gives the same message with 3 different SIMs that work in other phones.
I was advised to check for a good contact with the SIM card, and that checks out. CM advised checking to see if my radio file needed updating. When I first converted to CM, it took me a really long time to find a baseband that would work with this phone. So I have remained on this TUBJP9 for the couple of years that I have been running this phone on CM. GetRIL said I have RIL XXJVT, which I understand is the stock RIL for CM10.1. It suggested I match the modem, so I just now installed the XXJVT modem to match the RIL.
Since the phone won't work with 3 different SIM cards that work in other phones, it has been suggested that I simply have a hardware failure. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Inserting Sim card in the wrong direction and Sim card holder getting damaged (contact pins twisted or broken) are quite common in Mobile phones, you need to eliminate them first.
since this happen on updates of a sudden (as you indicate) , its unlikely sim card changed direction or sim contact broke. I hope so, but no harm checking
so the easiest way to eliminate the problem is to downgrade it to Gingerbread Stock ROM and check if this problem is still there, if it is than likely you have a hardware problem . you can try this or switch it with JVT gingerbread ROM with re-partitioning
or if you had an earlier gingerbread nandroid backup, try restore.

I got your problem too..i've flashed few times my stock rom. Try to remove the sim before using odin and add it later.

I was reluctant to go back to stock, but thought I had better in order to eliminate variables. Unfortunately this resulted in an Odin flash failure even though I included the pit file to account for the differences in partition layouts. So I was forced to go back to CM and accept that I have a Jelly Bean media player, or wifi phone at best. Having set it aside for a while, I was cleaning house and found an old out of service SIM. When I tried that, I no longer got the No SIM Card error. This was really irritating because my good T-mobile SIM also did not work in this phone, and when I took it in to the customer care center, they wouldn't listen to me about the possibility that a marginal SIM will work in some phones and not in others She simply took my SIM and said, look, it works in my phone and sent me out the door. Also I thought I had tested 3 good SIMs in this phone, but one of the SIMs I thought was good actually doesn't work in my other phone either. Still, out of 3 SIMs that work in other phones, only the one I just recently found works. I've heard of this kind of problem before. I just wish the customer care center would have humored me and let me try a replacement SIM. Then I wouldn't be out the $175 I spent for a replacement phone.

P10 Wi-Fi Calling / VoLTE problems

I've now had my second firmware update for the P10, but as yet it still hasn't addressed major problems with VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling on the P10.
In my case, this is using the phone on EE in the UK.
I've heard that the P10 may be delayed from release on EE as a result of this issue, as there's an effective block until Huawei can address major issues.
The problem in my case is that on a Wi-Fi Call, I can hear the other party but they can't hear me. Ever. 100% of the time. It's not a router problem at my end, as I've tried on numerous Wi-Fi services, at home and out. Even a Mi-Fi on EE connected to the phone.
VoLTE also has a drop rate some ten times higher than the iPhone, meaning EE simply won't pass it as is.
I know the P9 recently got updated but apparently that has similar issues, and it's a Huawei wide problem. Apparently VoLTE was even temporarily removed from another Huawei phone because of problems on a German network.
Is anyone else using VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling with or without issues? Going forward, these are both very essential methods of connecting to allow calls, and often vital to allow access to lower frequency 4G that covers wider areas and penetrates indoors. But it needs to work!
Update: There is apparently another update coming that MIGHT fix this (it's not B113 which has already started going out).
Let's hope it is fixed!

i have the VTR-L09 . i dont have the dual sim like yours ! so?
same here, i have the one sim VTR-L09 with latest firmware B162 (in which the changelog show "added VoLTE function" but under settings->more->network there is not such an option. I know that my career (italy, H3G) doesn't support it yet, but is it possible that this can affect the settings menu on my phone? I mean, if my career support it magically the "VoLTE" option will appear under settings menu?

maybe it is just a problem with some sort of connection for the e-sim/physical thing, what is the carrier? please do not post your imei
also try turning airplane mode on and off
Welcome to XDA
Maybe be a bad sim card.
Sim cards can be damaged by ESD, handle it like a stick of ram. Never touch the contacts and at least discharge yourself by touching an earth ground before handling it.
Sim cards are good when they leave the manufacturer, a failure almost always is due to ESD damage afterward by the installer... just like ram sticks.
P
Access point names misconfiguration.
If it's a carrier phone like AT&T they will help you troubleshoot it.
I can see 2 issues here: 1. You have dud sim or 2. You didn't pay your telephone bill...if it's 2, you'd still get a connection. Have you tried using a sim from another provider?
Is it a brand new phone or second hand? If the latter are you sure it's not stolen and network blocked? The fact the esim also doesn't work would suggest this could be the case as it likely rules out a hardware problem with the sim or simcard slot.
Just an FYI, but I believe that this issue is tied to Samsung's latest update for the S21U. I pushed it through this morning and now whenever I disable my WiFi, I lose my cellular connection for about 10 minutes and only get it back after waiting, doing a reboot or turning WiFi back on...
Very strange...

If you bought it from official channels, raise a ticket for support with your Carrier or Seller. If you got it off e-bay or by other means, go back to the source and try to ensure it's not a stolen and IMEI blocked device. There are a lot of stolen phones floating around in the second hand market.
If even a clean ODIN flash isn't working, it's unlikely it's a user fixable problem so you'll most likely have to go to the service centre for this.
Try connecting to 3g/2g instead
should work if you have bad 4g connection in your country
Just by settings---> connections --->mobile network --> than change from 5g/4g... to 3g/2g and see if it improves

Question my REALME x7 max 5g does not work with any phone company

hello friends I need help please, I have a REALME X7 MAX with 12 gb in RAM and 256 ROM with a firmware RMX3031 fast charge of 65w the problem that I have with this phone is that I could not make it work with my current telephone company (cricket) I went with them and several other phone companies (Verizon, at&t, boost mobile, us cellular, T Mobile, etc etc) and in all of them they tell me that my phone is not compatible with their networks and services, I have been investigating and I know which phone is not it allows to activate Volte, maybe that is one of the reasons why it does not accept to work in any of these phones, I have tried to activate Volte with the universal network mode app, with another app like force Volte 4g etc and none works with this firmware, I would like to know if anyone else has the same problem and how did you solve it? I was also thinking of installing another ROM but I don't know which one I could try to install to fix this problem that I have, could someone help me thank you very much

I don't know because when I bought the phone I bought it on AliExpress and when I started it for the first time it asked me to update, I did it and then I inserted my micro sim, and ohhh surprise it didn't work with my network and that the phone is unlocked, after that I tried many things like forcing the Volte etc I went to many phone companies and they all tell me that it will not work with any of them, I think that maybe I will have a solution if I change the firmware or something like that to a different version, I don't know, I'm newbie in this but I have a little idea of what may be happening since the phone itself does not let me activate Volte and that is the requirement for this phone to work in my country with any phone company

Question No Simlock, No mobile Data Help please

Hello to all specialists, . I have the following problem with my S21 Ultra 5G (I do not know the provider before) the problem refers to mobile data that I simply do not get activated. I installed a new Rome from Samfw.com via Odin. I tried all providers here in Germany, but nothing was reached except recently at Telekom (T-Mobile). The smartphone does not require a simlock. Is it in the settings?. The card is recognized and WLAN telephony is also possible. At first I thought that it might be blocked, but I bought a unlock code from Handy-Entsperren24.de, I am now sitting on this problem all the time and does not depend on what it could be, I had another ROM before on it, which was compatible with Vodafone and Telekom and Euro. I hope you have a suggestion that this problem is finally helped. I looked on YouTube and in Google I looked for the problem forever, but I found nothing in this regard. Many greetings your Ingo.
Here are some data:
Model Name: Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G SM-G998B/DS
Model code: SM-G998BZKDDBBT
Model Brand: Samsung G998BXXU6EWAF
ESIM Supported: NO
ESN status: clean
Telephone status: officially
If there is a thread that resembles mine, then I ask for the link.
NOBODY HELPS???
Install e.g. Network Cell Info Lite & WiFi and see if you can see the masts.
does calling and all other functions work fine? is it only mobile data that is not connecting?
I also don't get a hotspot/homespot. Only the mobile data does not work, the photo.

Turn off wifi and watch the "data" tab when connecting to the network.
Are you using one sim or two at the same time?
Are the settings in apn on your phone consistent with those of your sim card provider?
Yes, I use my provider's settings. A SIM card no matter 1 or two, the same everywhere. The provider of mine is normal here.
looks like you dont have any signal. im guessing calling is only working on wifi?
have you tried your sim in another phone?
maybe worth just reflashing the firmware, possibly a bad update?

I suspect RIL failure or worse, hardware failure of the radio.
Still try to make a call to the emergency number 112 and immediately disconnect if a call is made.
So I switched off the WLAN telephony, tried emergency call 112 and I didn't get through. It was only "called", but as already mentioned, nothing happened. I really don't know what to do, I also tried 3 different stocks. (Vodafone, Telecom and of course euros). Does anyone have a tip because I think a new Rome may not do anything? Before that, I had already converted the SIM card to an ESIM, but nothing happened, it is always just the mobile data that does not show any function. The card works in my old cell phone Xioami.
Have you just brought the device?
couple of possibilities and resolution
1- Software issue - use odin to reflash the firmware (make sure you use the official or trusted cable)
2 - network blocked device - you'll need to call your operator to check whether this is the case
3 - Hardware issue - get it repaired by samsung

We are not talking about SIM. Calling the emergency number should also work without any SIM in the phone. Since it does not work and you tried to upload other original firmware, the diagnosis is clear: a damaged radio module. Only replacing the motherboard will help, which in fact may be unprofitable.
I now get a call from Samsung for repair. Let's see what that costs. Thanks for the information, if you can think of something else that can still be remembered, I would be happy to receive any answer.
I did so installed trwp I did full wipe. Then I uploaded the system again through Odin and everything works
Before android install 13, imei (null) (imei is empty) no signal.

First, how do you know that the case of the author of the thread is identical to your problem?
Second, don't force the thread author to remove the knox security irrevocably after flashing custom recovery.
So I didn't install any new firmware. And with stack 1, as you can see, there are only bugs.
Do you have any suggestions or do you really think hardware failures are occurring? With the motherboard of the S21 Ultra, costs almost as much as a new one?

There can be many causes and locations of damage.
Without physical access to the phone and knowledge of operation and diagnostics, it is impossible to know if repair is possible and what the cost will be.

So can I do nothing more from here?
You just have to be careful, as already explained on the website (Teardown), the back cover is difficult to solve. And do you also have to expand a chip? A question on the side? Can you just expand the memory chip? From 128GB to 256GB? Or even higher? Only purely out of interest.
