LED Color Changes by Screen Type - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Guides, News, & Discussion

It appears models/versions aren't the issue here. Screen type seems to be the deciding factor on whether you have multicolor or just white LED. BOE screen is only white, EBBG screen can be changed to multicolor. You can check which screen type you have in Device View in Engineering Mode.

I have a theory that some models of Redmi 4x don't support color changing LEDs. No matter what I've tried mine is white all the time. My phone version is 4x Global model MAG138 as shown in the attached image. Please post which version you have and whether or not you've managed to change your LED colors. I'll update the thread with a tally if I can get enough responses. Thanks!
So far:
MAG138 5 no 4 yes
MAE136 2 yes 1 no
MAI132 1 yes 1 no

I´m on MAG138 also, only white notifications

Well that shoots my theory then. I'd still like to keep this thread going though. There's something to this.

What ROM are you on sir?
If you have adb shell root access can you try this in adb shell?
echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/purple/blink
Thanks

MAG138 and working RGB.

I have:
Redmix 4x 32/3 Global Version
MAG138
My led is only white.
I tried many methods to do multiple...
I suspect, that Global version is important thing. What do you have?
P.S. If I try to do this code by terminal
Code:
su
ledsdir="/sys/devices/soc/78b6000.i2c/i2c-2/2-0045/leds"
for leds in cyan yellow purple cyan purple yellow cyan
do
echo led blink : $leds
echo 255 > $ledsdir/$leds/blink
sleep 10
done
... I have only white colors in every led, BUT! Cyan not blink even white color, it's just nothing. Maybe it's important?

Mine is MAI132 indian variant.. i tried installing rr remix rom as it has multicoloured led light support but it didn't worked for me... I think the newly manufactured device do not have multicoloured led support.. my device manufacture month is September. And my friend have older varaint that is of month may and it have the multicoloured support Even the inhold feel Is different... The older one have more solid feel as compared to mine(newer one)...

I didn't use any method, it was already present in rom, but which rom? I forgot about that, because it was before two weeks, that time I flashed back to back 4-5 roms, like miui pro, rr, aosp extended, PA, it was one of those roms, currently I am on stock global stable, because I wanted to sell this device, but I changed my mind, I was getting only 6000rs, now I am going to use it, I will start flashing different roms from tomorrow and will tell you in which multicolour led is working,

[Q] Illumination Bar on bootup.

Hi, sorry to ask stupid questions, I usually figure things out myself, I've been going through the forums and googling but cannot find the answer.
Just having upgraded from 2 years from the HTC Desire S to the Xperia SP, and immediately rooting and cwm and panicing as it wouldn't turn on because I flashed the wrong stuff etc.
I am currently running XPERIA PURENESS v1.0 as it is the only rom I have found that goes landscape in the main screen "Rosie" it was called for the HTC.
Anyway, I had flashed something along the way that on bootup the pretty lights went all the different colours in a row. Is this a general setting I have missed? or could someone point me in the right direction please of something which I may have flashed.
Eyecandy, eyecandy, eyecandy
Many thanks

[Q] Custom Rom 4.4.2 gapps help

Hi there,
I have just installed the cm-11-20131226-UNOFFICIAL-p990 custom rom on my LG P990
what is running great. But I have some notice what I would like to share.
First of all the camera is blinking and sometimes goes to upside down when moves fast the screen.
There are two phone icon in the settings menu.
And how can I setup the button lights to change the its colors how I setup that ?
These are things what I noticed about this rom.
Can somebody help me with a gapps install to fix these problems?
I hope I have written in the right forum about this.
Thanks the answer/s/.
Best regards,
Lewis
Hey there, the camera problem is a known one and at the moment is not solved. About leds, i do believe our device has only white ones, so we can't change the colors. Only possible change is brightness, that can be changed in kowalski manager. The ROM has gapps included, so if you need more, use playstore.

Hi mate,
Thanks for the light up.
I didn't know that for hundred percent this phone has just white light.
I can live without that.
So we must wait for the camera fixing.
Sorry I mean the gapps these problems fixing.
Or its just solve with a newer installation, not just a smaller file what is fixing these problem/s/?
Thanks again.
Have a nice day!
It's not the gapps that cause this problem. We've just to wait for pengus to fix that. Pay attention, that kowalski kernel is in alpha state, so such problems are not surprise.

What are the Best Roms with no Issues for the Mi Max 2?

What are some good roms for the mi max 2 thats not MIUI with NO issues. And one with the ability to install Substratum?
The stable ROMs from MIUI are the only one with NO major Issues. And none of them support Substratum yet. There are some custom ROMs, but they are not Stable, most of them are on Beta/developer ROM.

Appreciate the link but this theme is in chinese. If I get this phone it'll be for the global version since I'm in USA. Will; this theme be in english?
Other than that MIUI is soooo outdated looking. It looks as outdated as win 95. Very disappointing.
The theme will be in whatever language your phone is.
I don't know which version of MIUI you are looking at, but it has come a long way. It's not as bad as it used to be and in terms of design it doesn't look outdated at all except for the ugly icons, which you can easily change. The Themes app allows for a lot of customization which on stock Android can only be done on a rooted phone, too.
Anyway, I still prefer stock Android over MIUI as well, but before Lineage OS is stable enough for me, I'll have to stick to MIUI. These are my settings in the themes app to make it look more like stock Android and darkish enough for me:
Lock Style: Default
Status Bar: Clean
Icons: Limitless
Messaging: Default
Dial Pad: Simple & Clean UI
Favourites Tray: Default

I'm on the "Global" version of the phone there are plenty of dark themes available in english, visit the themes sub-section on the official MIUI forums at http://en.miui.com/forum-7-1.html and take a look for any that take your fancy... On a side note there are way to many iPhone themes there,,,

At least, according to your criteria. Especially the "NO issues" part. (Current LineageOS for Mi Max 2 still has some issues - for e.g. IR does not work yet.)

IR has probably been fixed by now, it's just a matter of time until xuefer posts his updated build here. There are devs actively working on Lineage based builds for the Max 2, I'd say a couple more weeks until we start seeing more ROMs here.

Hi Robert235,
I had the same problem with Xiaomi.eu 13.013.
In my opinion I had this issue after I tried super wallpaper.
This turns also off the AOD.
But I not recognized this, because AOD still works.
After I turn on AOD, also with super WP, the issue was gone with my rear display.
Maybe also on your device...
Good look

Rear screen is buggy since i use this device, you are lucky it turns off ;-) Here it never turns off after time, and never got notifications...... I'm using latest weekly, but from A12 weeklys till now rearscreen is nearly useless for me.....i remember it works with chinese rom that came with device.
