USB 3.0 or 3.1 possible? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

Hello friends,
the XZ1 Compact only has USB 2.0 so my question is: Is it (technically) possible enabling USB 3.0/3.1 support on this phone (with a custom rom or software patch for example)? Maybe there is still hope making this phone even better
Greetings
Devlef

It's a hardware limitation, not a software limitation, so no, it's impossible.

Generic USB devices on HD2?

Assuming USB hub functionality is present on the HD2, does anyone know if standard USB devices (e.g.generic keyboards or standard USB memory sticks) could be used on HD2 without having to install special drivers?
I'd like to know this to!
And like the G02, can I use a gamepad on this baby?
Given that USB host isn't supported how do you expect the device to have the drivers for it?
According to various reviews I've seen, USB host is supported.
sent them a mail
hello, just a quick question regarding the new HTC HD2,
does is "support" USB host, i.e can I plug in ,say, a USB memory stick (Generic devices)?
best regards

lets see how fun the answer will be...
Well, there are no drivers for peripherals in the leaked ROMs, no official information, nothing that would really indicate USB host support. It may be enabled somehow via hacks, but that would certainly mean that drivers need to be installed separately.
got a reply from HTC today;
"It doesn't support"
thats a shame really, hoped it would have... no TV out and no usb host, that sucked
how would it work to extract the host drivers from another device?
Could they be used on the HD?
(I think not after what I have read, but it just might work)
may be you can try thoses drivers :

and some proper cabe because you may have to add a input power cable and see if it works and tell us

[Q] USB OTG aka USB Host on XPERIA X1?

Is it possible?
I have O2 XDA Flame working on USB OTG (I think O2 is supplied by HTC) but the device is the way too big. Since X1 is made by HTC too, is it possible?
Hi VSJ, I've read it somewhere, let me google for a momment...
http://russelleclaircorner.blogspot.com/2010/10/customize-x1-usb-flash-drive.html
It's clearly written that X1 won't be able to do so due to limited hardware. Just like TV Out. So far that I know, no matter what to do, X1 has no required hardware or those things.

I am able to use the PS3 controller using the USB OTG cable. It works perfectly and I can use it to totally navigate the phone. Does that mean OSB OTG is working on the Xperia Z1?

[Q] Problem with AOA accessory and Sony Xperia E1 after update to v20.1.A.0.47

Hi,
I'm developing an Android accessory device that communicates with the android phone over USB using the AOA protocol. This means that my accessory device is the USB Host (and supplies VBUS) for the Android Phone. We were planning to specifically develop with the Sony Xperia E1. So far everything has been working fine, but after an update to the version v20.1.A.0.47, the Xperia is unable to work with my device once the Xperia battery goes below 60%. It is not able to enumerate completely when I connect it to my accessory, and looks like the USB stack on the Xperia gets stuck. After this, if I connect the Xperia to a PC, it is also unable to detect the PC. The only way to get it to work with a PC again is to hard RESET the Xperia OR change the USB mount settings from MSD to MTP or vice versa.
Now my accessory can only supply 100mA current to the Xperia, while the Xperia declares bMaxPower to be 500mA. But this behavior is unchanged from the previous firmware, so I have no idea what changed internally.
I was wondering if anyone here could point out some measures we could try to fix this? Would it be possible to revert to the older version of the firmware? Or could I load a custom kernel based on the earlier version of the firmware? We plan to use this phone with our accessory for a few thousand units, so this could be a major problem if I'm not able to resolve it. I do not have much idea about loading custom kernels so please forgive my ignorance.
Thanks!
Govind
good luck with your project.
please post all tech info here .
seems no one yet came up with a custom kernel for E1 :crying:

N7100, charge while in USB host mode.

Hello.
I'm aware that it is possible to get an N7100 to charge while in USB host mode via a h/w mod.
I was wondering if the same thing were possible via a kernel modification? Has anyone got any idea where I need to look?
I found an answer to this question for a different phone:
"On the*Galaxy*Nexus, removing the complete body of method tuna_set_vbus_drive() in arch/arm/mach-omap2/board-tuna-connector.c will disable charging of OTG slave devices and will allow the OTG host itself to be charged. The battery icon will not be updated by this modification alone."
This particular file doesn't exist on the N7100 + Omni (or i haven't it), so i guess the functionality must be somewhere else.
Thanks.

With the 4210s, the USB interface chip WAS capable of detecting a USB ACA (Accessory Charger Adapter). CM and derivatives supported ACAs on the 4210 devices thanks to a patch.
I'm not sure if the Exynos 4412 USB interface chip (Samsung used the same chip on all 4412-based devices to my knowledge, except for maybe the N80xx family) has the same capability.
Unfortunately, many of the Y-adapters out there aren't proper ACAs. I'd be willing to support proper ACAs IF they can be detected correctly, but I'm not going to allow any workaround hacks that don't follow the USB standards.

External screen?

Hey!
This is my first thread I've ever created, so don't be too harsh on me
As far as I know, the new Android 10 includes a so called "desktop mode". So you can connect a compatible device via USB to an external screen. I think thats pretty cool and samsung already implemented this idea from the S8 upwards with Samsung Dex.
I understand that this needs USB 3.1, but the Motorola G7 Plus only has USB 2.0!
According to the datasheet of the build-in Snapdragon 636 processor, it does support USB 3.1!
So here comes the question: Is it possible to "activate" the required functionality in order to use the desktop mode?
So like changing a few things inside the root files (Like you can activate for example OTG)?
If not, is the hardware build that way, that it just doesn't have the data-lines?
And also, if all of that doesn't work, you surely saw such USB 2.0 to HDMI adapter, which do work on older computers, but do they might work with Android 10 connected to otg?
It would be really cool if something of that might work.
Thanks for your response!

Unfortunately this device does not support MHL so usb to HDMI dongles do not work. Apparently moto hasn't supported MHL for some time .

Thanks for your answer. But I knew that before. I am trying to finde some "workarounds" for this, because I do really like this phone!
Found a solution
So, after a bit of research, I found a solution to add external screens to any OTG compatible Android phone!
There are so called "DisplayLink adapters" and those seem to be compatible with any Android phone that supports OTG.
After installing the official app "DisplayLink Presenter", you should be able to get everything working.
I din't tested it yet, but I hope that this will help someone in the future.
