Update: winners chosen.

The (comparatively)small size. For the love of god everybody stop this large(-r) screen madness and making even bigger phones. I like to use my phone in one hand and this one is a welcome change, a bigger battery would have been welcome but sony has shown us that even on Android optimisation can do wonders so looking forward to that

I'm using the Lenovo a6010 plus and my favorite thing about the all new Honor 9 Lite is everything. I love just everything about this phone especially the much smaller and easy to hold display size.

Tall displays are all the rage right now, but the screen estate is not always used by people. However, if you are into eBook reading, then the extra space will make for a better reading experience. If the OS is well optimized, then the battery backup will prove to be decent. I hope there might be OEM plastic backs for those people who are accident prone

The design and display and camera is pretty dope IMHO and i actually like the emui and its based on oreo!!yeyyy!!!
And dat back!!?
Right now I'm using a zuk z2

Specs at this price

Quad Camera and Display
Brilliant Quad Cameras and Beautiful Display. These are usual features about which a normal person will care and this phone excels in both.

Oreo + EMUI (*o*)
Edit: I will buy it anyway.lol.

I'm using HTC Desire 620G and Samsung galaxy s duos 2. The design is pretty sleek and is made of glass and is reflective. I mean the looks are good. I'm really looking forward for the camera and it is a quad camera setup and also looking forward for software and kernel optimizations made by honor when compared to other kirin 659 chips. First budget 18:9 phone from honor so excited to check its quality.

I'm using Pixel 2 XL now and I'm looking forward to advanced quad-camera and awesome infinity display of Honor 9 lite. And of course the headphone jack. I really miss it on Pixel 2 XL
If I win this, I'll support the device by building custom ROMs for it

Really like the Size and display of the phone. The class finish of the front and back looks so gorgeous. And also out of the Box with Oreo is best out of the Best. It is having double tab to sleep and wake up features that every one asked for Kirin processor from Huawei. Worth for money.

Them cameras and stunning design!
Well, the minimal bezel is on trend and this is a boon as we have more screen to consume media or even use apps in split screen mode! But, the thing that excites me the most is dual front and rear camera and Honor promises a hardware level bokeh, so at this price range, it is a first I believe. Super psyched about those cameras. Also, a headphone jack! YAY! I'm using Lenovo Z2 plus now.

See basically right now using redmi 2 which 2-3 years old and for using oreo i have to flash custom roms from xda and developers have migrated to latest devices and with 1GB ram everyone knows how much it sucks
Can't take good selfies, imagine about those bouquet effect pictures with perfect background blur is a dream * I know google camera port is there but its for devices having oreo and 64 bit rom. Redmi 2 is having bugs in oreo to run camera firstly and secondly 64 bit oreo has not came
And battery its like charging and charging again and look wise is not good and display is old 720p display. And internal storage is 8 GB
With all that said i love the honor 9 lite coz its having all the features that my device is having very less
Awesome display,awesome looks,more battery,more ram,more internal storage too,better camera

I am using Moto g 2014.
I like the screen accept ratio of Honor9 Lite. It has beautiful look, efficient processor and excellent camera. Hope I will win

Hi, I'm using an Honor 8 right now, and I love it. What I'm looking forward the most in the Honor 9 Lite is the Dual Selfie cameras because I've liked the dual cameras on my Honor 8. Also, I want to try the 18:9 display, the screen on my current phone is good, and I would like to try the new aspect ratio. Finally and the most important, I want to try Oreo based EMUI 8, I'm really disappointed that my phone won't get EMUI 8 (based on what Honor India wrote), and because I want to try Project "Treble" (a HUGE thanks for @phhusson for his awesome work on "Treble", and also the EMUI camera port I want to try).

I like the 2160×1080 FHD+ screen with the 18:9 Aspect Ratio.

Time for Budget Level war between Honor and Xiaomi !
This is gonna be cool !

Honor 9 Lite, 4 Cameras, 4 Gigs of RAM, at that price! Seems to be a nice catch.
Huawei's on row of releasing high-end smartphones at low price!
Considering all the previous releases (7x,9,10), I guess this one's going to be a super-hit soon.
Like, now just when the crowd was going Whoa to dual cameras, here we have quad lenses! And that too front dual sensors.
Being a Lenovo's mid range (Vibe) smartphone user, I consider these specs to be that of a flagship. Mine powers a 3gig ram, 13MP cam(single lens tho ), 1.3 GHz of processor @ 13K!
A little drawback I feel is the battery. Hosting a very powerful spec, you'll need to have a long battery.
But, overall, it's a good deal for people trying to buy a new phone.

What I like about the Honor 9 Lite is the support given to the powerusers like me and many of us. Treble support and the growing quality of initiatiives make the mid-tier finally suitable for passionates, while additionally seeing such a quick implementation of fullscreen display makes it a thing to have quickly in own hands.

Chance to win for free on xda and the cameras I guess.

Photo Thread - Post your camera samples here

I have been on the fence about this phone for sometime. Now the pro version is out and has the same camera sensor in it I am interested to see how both the mi note and mi note pro do for photos. I really don't want to get the LG G4 or the S6 and just need to hear some views about the camera quality especially indoor shots and moving objects. Will appreciate any posts. Thanks.
Here are a couple of photos I took yesterday at work.

Is it me or does focus look a little off ? Thank you for uploading though. Been wanting to see if camera was any good.
I will take some pictures today and upload them for you.
It is but its because the photo is taken like 5" from the work. I was maxing out the focus. This phone has a manual focus though which is absolutely amazing. It's the first phone I have had to have manual focus mode and most of the time, especially taking super close up pictures like this its really nice.
May I ask what is the intention or purpose of this tread?
There are many devices using the IMX214 sensor that is used in the Mi Note Pro already. Test pictures are available for all of them.
It's quite sad that my Mi Note Pro uses the outdated Sony IMX214 sensor that was already used in my one year old Mi4. They should have used the IMX240 which is used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The direct comparison differences are huge (I have all 3 mentioned devices)
Specs:
Name | Pixels | Sensor size | Cell size
IMX230 | 21MP | 7.487 mm | 1.12 μm × 1.12 μm | LeTV Max
IMX240 | 16MP | 6.828 mm | 1.20 μm × 1.20 μm | Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6
IMX214 | 13MP | 5.867 mm | 1.12 μm × 1.12 μm | Oppo Find 7, Xiaomi Mi4, Nexus 6, Huawei Ascend P7

You may ask but I thought the title was clear.
Several phones use the same IMX214 Sensor including several I have owned including Hauwei Ascend Mate 7 and One Plus One others I have not owned also use this sensor. Some companies add another lense and all the companies use different algorithms when processing the photo. I am interested to see if Xiaomi have done a better job with the IMX214 than the other phones I have owned as I have not been impressed but from what I have seen Xiaomi are some how doing a better Job, Also this thread gives users the opportunity to get the best out of their phone camera and compare shots and hopefully improve photography skills through the community that we all love here at xda but if you think it's a pointless thread please report it to a moderator.
I would appreciate it if you uploaded some samples using your Xiaomi Mi Note or if you don't have one like me enjoy the photos others post.

Sure it's not pointless. I just wonder why every single phone needs a "Post your camera Pictures" thread. I think that's pointless for every device forum.
But feel free, I mean this is an open community and to some it may be helpful to see photos shot by this phone.
I rely on http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1 that shoots camera test pictures with repeatable and standardized test conditions.

The Sony IMX214 seems ok but not superb. Especially if I compare the OIS when recording [email protected] of my Note 4 with the [email protected] on the Mi Note Pro. OIS seems absent here...
I would be happy if Xiaomi would include finger print, the latest sony CMOS and IP67 case for their next iteration.
Thanks for starting this thread. I will be posting my photos soon. If you've seen my other photos , then I'm hoping to create some stunning shots.
Note - having a Sony sensor guarantees nothing. Processor, ISP and software can make it amazing or just average, even rubbish. So a more powerful processor with the same hardware lens and software can be better than an older processor too.

Impressive how you got that close to the fly without it moving !! Could you post some indoor photos with no daylight and only light bulbs please. Wondering what the processing does , Thanks.
Cheers
Went in to manual mode, fixed the focus. And asked the fly to stay still

[Analysis] This is the Huawei P8

The Huawei P8 is the brand new high range model presented by the Chinese company in May, a device with which doubtless they are pointing high, for its design and finished as well as for the chosen hardware.
We must bear in mind the big bet they did with the previous model (P7) which achieved quite poor results. By the other hand I must also say that those results were understandable due to the difference of performance with the main phones from the competitors.
Huawei is a very big and consolidated company, although not precisely known by being a smartphone manufacturer. A market where they've been working for years, improving yes. But not yet giving the stroke.
They are in fact missing something that other Chinese manufacturers (much smaller and unknown) are already doing: present a real flagship phone.

If we look around the other brands, from the big players (Samsung Galaxy S6Edge, Apple iPhone 6 Plus, LG G4, Sony Xperia Z4/Z5, Lumia Cityman...) to the small and last arriving to the battle field (Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, OnePlus One, Meizu MX 4 Pro, uleFone BeTouch 2, Elephone P8000, UMI Iron...) they all have a unique device representing the company values and... all that the company is able to achieve (technologically and in terms of design speaking). So... why is Huawei taking so long? But most important, will the P8 be a real and worthy candidate?
Design
The new design is very different from the one used on the P7, they go away from the use of crystal surfaces and come closer to the trend of metal, each time more common in high range terminals.
In the front, the screen takes almost all the space (71,63% ratio screen-front), with the secondary camera, the light sensor and the speaker on the top... and without any physical button on the bottom part.
The left side is completely naked, nothing in there. Leaving the volume and power/lock buttons on the right side, where we will also find the slots for memory (microSD) and SIM. On the bottom side we have the plug for the USB cable and the hands free speaker, so we will find the jack connector for audio on the top side.
When we turn it down, on the rear part we find just the main camera (one of this device's treasures), which is completely integrated into the surface, not protruding even a little, together with the dual LED flash on the top, and the Huawei logo in the middle area.
The finished on aluminum results very elegant and fits very well on the hand, although the truth is that due to its big size of 5,2”, we will need both hands to manage comfortably the phone. Must also say that with just6,4mm of thickness the P8 takes the tittle of thinnest of its category.
Hardware
All the manufacturers have smarten up in the last months. Starting with the 64 bits processors that enhance the Android Lollipop experience and of course a good dose of RAM memory to ensure a good performance at every moment.

What probably attires the most my attention is the use of a proprietary SoC (System on Chip), instead of using the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon or the (almost equally popular) more economic and with good performance MTK from Mediatek. This can be a very profitable point for Huawei, since if it works well, it will provide a great performance for the P8 , but also will show the sector that the Chinese brand can made competitive SoC, providing them with more revenue if other brands bet for using them.
Use, performance and battery
As starting point, outline that it comes with Android Lollipop 5.0, however it's equipped with the last version of Huawei customization layer, called EMUI 3.1.
From the first EMUI versions, the improvement on fluency and suer experience has been notorious, in addition to that, they have included (or improved) a few applications. However it also implies that we will find duplicated tasks and apps in our Android (something that not only happens with EMUI), meaning a bigger load of our system.
The truth is this can happen with any launcher we install, so while the performance and agility of the smartphone are good, it means no problem. Just remember that Android updates will take more time to reach us.
In the case of EMUI, it brings us an extra number of options to the ones included on any Android, so at the end we will have much more ways to adapt the device to our likes.
One of the main characteristics of this P8, comes precisely from its processor. Kirin 930 has the connectivity very present, so in every moment it can calculate and change to the network (data or wifi) which gives us more speed. For that, Huawei has equipped this model with 2 independent antennas, one of the top the other on the bottom, allowing the network change to be very fast.
Regarding the performance, the 64 bits of the Kirin 930 offer very high results, scoring higher than other models like the Galaxy Note S4 on AnTuTu benchmarks, and so, showing it can talks on equal terms to any terminal (mounting Exynos or Snapdragon). All the games, as well as FullHD videos are played smoothly... well with that hardware the remarkable news good be to have some kind of lag.
The 5,2” FullHD screen, maybe perceived as a weak point since other flagship models are starting to mount QHD panels. Nonetheless, viewing the clear quality of the image and the real density of pixels that we receive (424ppi) the experience is more than satisfactory, and surely it impacts on a lower power consumption.
Talking about the battery, after having tested a few smartphones with different battery capacity, I daresay 2680mAh are perhaps few. I have no doubts we will reach the end of the day, but a device of this category could easily have pointed to cross the 3000mAh barrier and, I'm sure any user would mind sacrificing a few tenths thick for that reason. Even though, Huawei promises one day and a half with standard usage.
Something to have in mind is that obviously when we demand it a lot (gaming or doing Skype for example) it becomes hotter, as well as any other smartphone. In this case, since it has that nice metal body and being so thin, the heat is distributed all over the smartphone surface, giving more feeling of warming than with other devices.
Cameras
This is, each time more, a critical point on every smartphone coming to the market. In order to achieve better results, manufacturers are choosing good sensors like the Sony IMX214. Nonetheless, we've already seen in many other cases that the sensor is not everything to take good pictures, imaging software is as important or even more (does anyone question the quality of 8Mpx sensor in the iPhone?)
In this case, Huawei has not share who's manufacturing the sensor or the camera, so we will simply focus on the result achieved by those 13Mpx.
The P8 comes with a optical stabilizer and has a few other improvements for low-light conditions, ultra fast shooting, or shooting without unlocking the device, time-lapse, panoramic pictures, etc. I cannot but congratulate them for the results shown, specially good when doing macro pictures. In general very sharp pictures almost without noise. True that the quality level delivered in the photography area was already very high with the Ascen Mate 7.
Even those low-light situations where almost all Chinese phones get out badly, the P8 takes very worthy pictures.
However, colors don't always look like I see on the reality, i t may be due to the dynamic range... or maybe because of the screen, in any case it's a clear point to improve.
Selfie lovers will be delighted with the 8Mpx front camera, in addition to the good quality , the device recognizes its owner face, and if we have enabled it, apply automatically some face-beauty filters when it detects it.
Finally, something very curious (and funny) is the function known as “light-painting”, capable of capturing the light during a pre-stablished time. So we can capture cars lights, stars moving,... or even what we draw using a lantern.
Conclusions
Huawei has chosen it as its 2015 flagship smartphone, so it's clear enough they have put all their talent on it, building a very serious and powerful device that can fearless face the main players of the season.
I have already mentioned the good performance, the screen quality and the great pictures we can take. In addition, the clear design and the metal finish give a premium image.
But (there are always buts), there are a few points to improve, starting by EMUI... which is not new. Every customization layer brings some differentiators over the competitors, but at the same time usually eats more resources and make the updates to arrive later. Huawei proposes some very interesting things on this version 3.1, and many users will like and use them. From my side, I would like it to be as any launcher available on the PlayStore, so if we don't like it, we can just remove it, but this is not the case.
On the other hand, the question with the heating, it's something known and not bad, but there will be a lot of users feeling their phone hotter than other models and will be worried about that.
Finally, which is at least for me the biggest fault... where is the fingerprint? If you really want to compete against the main players, don't forget to bring the same weapons. And almost all the high range smartphones nowadays have a fingerprint or TouchID sensor, as security mechanism.
It's a great terminal, meaning Huawei has received, analyzed and used all the feedback from previous models (specially P7) , also meaning they are working to bring their products where they see themselves.
The price varies depending on where we look for this phone and what extras we include on the package. Normally we should find it between 499€ and 520€. Don't forget to check if your order include shipping cost and other charges.
PS: if you liked this post, don't forget to thank

Huawei P9 vs Honor v8

If there comes the Honor v8 with 4GB RAM and Kirin 950 to europe, would you still decide for P9 or buy v8?
I mean, the v8 can be overclocked and run like a 955. Im not interested in 2k, cause of possible bad graphics.
Lets wait and see, if the camera settings is the same, but i think it can be ported as soon as the device comes out.
If only the smallest version comes to official selling points, then P9 would be my favorite.
Some hints or opinions about that?
Honor also releases Kernel Sources, or it can be dropped from another huawei device?

Camera is definitely different. Although both sport the same dual 12MP rear cameras and 8MP front shooter, it's confirmed that Leica was only involved with the P9 and not the V8, but they still work the same way by combining the RGB and black and white image together.
While we are still on the topic of cameras, there is one big difference when it comes to camera features. For one, even though the V8 has dual lens camera, it doesn't have any monochrome mode like the P9. On the other hand, the V8 has this gif like moving image capture feature, which the P9 doesn't have (but perhaps could have with later updates), and I highly recommend that you visit this site to see how cool it is.
Also, another key difference is the VR feature from V8, during the reveal, it was shown that the device features a professional eye protection technology for the screen for watching movies or playing games in the long run, and has a special cinema mode when the phone is laid horizontally, along with stereo speakers to enhance the overall viewing experience. P9 is purely for photography purpose.
So. Whats the verdict?
I'm also considering those 2. And huawei ascend mate 8.
im more in stereo speakers, thats why i cant 100% take the P9.

it depends on which feature you like more one for VR and the other for camera respectively. Personally, I'd take P9 because I prefer photography and slim phone.
So what about you?

I'm certainly looking to purchase just can't find anywhere decent to buy from without incurring customs etc
Well I was... Till the time I ordered a Meizu smartband and found that the app is in Chinese... Afraid the phone will f me the same way...
So I went ahead and got the Mi Mix

I've received mine today and first impressions very briefly you get what you pay for.
It's ok nothing special but i think that's probably a lot to do with the UI, it's kind of sluggish.
Camera isn't bad better then i expected slightly better then Huawei mate 9.
Speakers not as loud or crisp as huawei mate 9.
Screen is nice and vibrant like Samsung, very pleased with that. Very responsive
Build quality is ok very slim and slippery but feels light which gives it a cheap feel. i prefer the heaver phone like iphone 7 plus which feels solid in the hand.
Probably best meizu has to offer.
Overall it's a good phone for the price but definitely not flagship killer.

What do you think of it after one month of use, I'm thinking of buying it but can't find any real review about it ? Do you think you could put another OS on it or a different skin than Meizu's ? I'd love to have cyanogen on it but I doubt it would work since meizu mainly use the fingerprint sensor for navigation but who knows...

I agree with your conclusion, however, I really like that it is so light. If feels great in the hand thanks to the low weight. Most never phones are too heavy. I also think that the screen and build quality is at a flagship level.
The user experience is improved when using Flyme 7, it does not feel slugish. However, I still feel that Meizu have not optimized the speed on the level of Xiaomi. I have previously owned a Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus and that phone felt faster even tough the SOC on 5s Plus (SD821) is roughly on par with Exynos 8890 on paper (Atleast AnTuTu scores are).
The camera is better on Pro 6 Plus compared to Mi 5s Plus, however, on the 5s Plus you can install the Google Camera Port and when using that app I prefer photos from 5s Plus over Pro 6 Plus. I really miss the ported google camera app when using Pro 6 Plus.
Battery life seems decent on Pro 6 Plus but not on the level of 5s Plus. However, 5s Plus has crazy good battery life. If you want a faster phone with better battery life go for Xiaomi MI 5s Plus. However, the build quality is vastly superior on Pro 6 Plus, the screen and sound quality is also (arguably) better on the Meizu.

A little help here,So im thinking about getting this phone. However im not sure if that going to work with tmobile 4g here in US? Also Does it have NFC? Any help would be nice! Thanks
I sold my Pro 6 Plus a couple of months ago. I now got a Meizu 15 Plus. Bought it for $340 online. This is a way better phone even if you take the higher price into consideration.
15 Plus is faster, has better battery life (on Flyme 7), a way better camera and crazy good stereo speakers. The screen is also larger and better on 15 Plus.

Mate 20 Pro users, will you be moviing to the "Google-less" Mate 30 Pro?

So it's that time of the year now. with the issues between US and Huawei,
Huawei has finally released its newest flagship Mate series smartphones at Germany. The Mate 20 and 20 Pro
the Mate 30 series comes with a new halo-ring camera design which comes with a circular shape that resembles a professional camera. It also has a new screen technology called the Horizon display which reaches up to 88-degree angle.

The Mate 30 phones are based on Android open source, meaning they will still function like Androids. What they won't have, though, is Google services or apps. No Google Maps, no Google Chrome and, most importantly, no Google Play Store.
Instead, you'll surf the web through the Huawei Browser and download apps through the Huawei AppGallery. The AppGallery has around 45,000 apps, according to Huawei, compared to the Google Play Store's estimated 2.7 million. Google typically licenses the latest version of Android, currently Android 10, for phone manufacturers to use. The Mate 30 phones will instead be powered by open-source Android and run EMUI 10, Huawei's user interface that approximates Google's Android 10.
This means Huawei will only be able to bring security updates to the Mate 30 phones when those updates hit open-source Android.

Personally, I'd keep mine and wait for a bootloader unlock code window to open again. I love my Mate 20 Pro.
but seeing the Mate 30/Pro running on AOSP looks
What's your take?
oops wrong sub-forum

YEah, I'm considering it, providing I can sideload what I need on the phone, eg play services and play store. If sideloading works and everything functions, then I'm in.
The specs and features on that beast is phenomenal. But I'll wait and see If we can unlock the bootloader. I need at least root. Lol
I'm not planning on moving to anything. Mate 20 Pro will still be a beast for a few years.
It's a nice phone, but a big no for me, I hate the trend with curved screens, I have problems with my mate 20 pro when using it with only one hand, imagine how many phantom presses you get if the screen is curved more.
Then also I'm rooted on my mate 20 pro, and I'm sure that there won't be any more unlock codes.
The missing Google services is nothing since you can install them yourself.
Yes, I will test it out and then move back to my note 9
I will wait until we have a solution/alternative for google playstore and make my move. I am happy with the Mate 20 pro but if I can upgrade the camera and display I am in!
No. Too big money for phone with uncertain future
I do not think I shall consider a phone ? that I have to improvise how do I backup my data and mainly pictures. It is so much easier with google than with Huawei backup. I love ❤ my mate 20 pro and without this problem I would go to the mate 30 pro without even looking at other phone ?.but no without google .
huawei is the only company that is doing a really tech on phones now.. I will buy mate 30 for sure.. dont care about google services.. because i will install them by my self
Unless able to unlock BL

I know I can but it is not so convenient especially if you are abroad.
I do not think I should pay a premium price to compromise. There are a lot of other google app I am using that I shall not be able.
with bootloader locked.......... no way to buy it

You can't do this any more. Google shut the door. Manual installation of Google apps and services is not a option by now.

Certainly no Google - no buy whatever good the phone is. Huawei have to sort is out ASAP. Otherwise they can forget about smartphone business outside China for sure. I don't need a phone without Google. Even if a new Google services installation hack will be available, I won't be bothered to buy over $1k smartphone to mess with it and have a headache about Google problems.

unless there's a way to install gapps, I won't be upgrading downgrading.
combine this with the fact that Huawei isn't allowing unlocked bootloader, forget it.
I love the hardware, but the software and restrictions is unacceptable for a premium tier device.
I have the matte 20 pro and i love it.
Now i uptdate it to EMUI 11 and play store stopped working.
I thought in Matte 20 it would be working forever, what can i do?
Yes i tried all the alternatives in the internet, and nothing works.
PLEASE HELP ME!
