Gyro sesnor included? - Honor 9 Lite Questions & Answers

There is lot of fuzz going around on Honor phones. Most of them saying these phones do not have basic gyro sensor which is a bit weird. Almost all mid range phone comes with Gyro. Even more weird is US/UK versions of Honor have them while Indian version doesn't come with it.
This is the age of VR so I hope it's included in this phone at least in India.
Can anybody share the information?

It has Gyro sensor. Dont worry..

Hi guys. I want to buy this phone but i`ve read a lot of comments about the camera starting to show purple/pink colour .. most people say it`s a hardware/overheating problem.. how can I now if the same thing will happen to my phone ? Is there any way to avoid it ? does it have to do anything with the product release date ? any kind of answers is welcome

The purple/pink color issue is definitively an hardware issue. Its caused by a bad camera sensor (Omnivision) on early batches. Mine is an Omnivision sensor but did not experienced the issue yet, even if know I will someday. So if the phone you want to buy is equipped with the Omnivision sensor, you'll probably have the purple issue. You can replace the sensor under warranty.

Sorry the bad camera sensor is the ST microelectronic vd6869. You should be fine with the omnivision or sharp model. You can determine which sensor you have by browsing to /sys/android_camera/sensor

List of Supported Camera Sensors for RN4X SD

Hi all,
I used an app which showed the list of supported camera sensors for mido. See attached picture.
It would be awesome if someone can find one a better Sony module out there which fits this phone.
https://prnt.sc/hn3bck
well i see the imx378 is on that list? same sensor as used in the google pixel
this list.. is it sensors which are electrically compatible, or physically compatible? no good if it doesnt fit in the phone, or requires a different lens setup. the 378 sensor for example is 7.8mm . the standard sony chip used is 5.8 mm.. i cant imagine that working without an entirely new lens setup, and probably case mods.

I used an app from the Google Play store called Device Info HW which shows you everything about your device. This app detected all the above camera drivers installed (front and back cameras) on the device.
I did a bit of research online, but have yet to find a module that may fit on the Note4X. So like you say, it may need an entirely new lens setup even if is "supported".
So I'm not sure why Xiaomi would include these drivers in the system folder though? It did have drivers for all 3 back cameras (Sony, Omnivision, and Samsung), including the qtech and ofilm versions.
Very interesting. I'd like to try a cheap one on that list just to see if it worked but I'd really love to see the pixels camera shoved in there... I found one on 'witrigs.com' (can't link as I'm new) for $20 if anyone fancies taking the plunge.
Any ideas on maybe cutting the back panel to fit the sensor? I'd like to know the dimensions of the samsung/omni/sony lenses used if anyone can find any info on them. Are there any differences between the pixel and pixel XL?

On Q-Tech's website I see they manufacture a bunch of different types of camera modules. The closest dimension I found was 8.5mm(L)*8.5mm(W)*5.3mm(H).

Good work finding this, thanks! That one does seem bigger, the lens itself wider too... Could deal with that when we come to it.
Been looking a little more into this, I wonder how that list of supported cameras are provided by 'device info HW'? They might be physically compatible but to my understanding probably not fully. Looking in system/vendor/lib I can only find the files (are these drivers?) for the 3 different cameras that mido has shipped with. I have zero experience or understanding if its possible to add drivers through kernel or anything though. Maybe a dev or someone with some experience can give some insight but looking at articles like these:
h ttps://www.xda-developers.com/cameras-custom-roms-developers-make-hardware-work-without-source-code/
I believe this will be unlikely to work.
@CedricSnail
As you mentioned, the camera libraries are located in 'system/vendor/lib'. For my device I see all the drivers listed by the app in that folder (see attached file). Which ROM are you using? I'm currently using the China Devloper ROM.

Oh wow, I'm on 'lineageos for microg'! Guess that changes things...
I'd be very interested in ordering some and giving this a try, the Z2's imx214 seems cheap so i might try that. I wonder would it be possible to include the libraries in a lineageos build?
Edit: nevermind, the imx 214, 298 and 2nd gen pixels 378 have a different number of pins on the connector from what I can tell from photos. They seem to have 17 pins lengthways as opposed to 15 on the imx258. However the 1st gen pixels imx 378 has 15 pins. I cant find any high resolution photos of the connections though so theres still a chance it may not fit.
Any updates on this ?
DO NOT waste your money on getting a different sensor! Just because the drivers are there, doesn't mean it's gonna work for the same chipset. Not to mention it would be a different size. Unless you can find another Xiaomi device's sensor that has the same processor and the same size and connections, you can't install anything else. Maybe Samsung Sensors could upgrade to a Sony Sensor, but not much more AFAIK.

I just did some research online and I found out that the Redmi Note 3 Pro uses the Samsung S5K3P3 16 MP sensor, which is also included as a driver in the Mido folder. I looked on AliExpress and put together a comparison photo of the 2 sensors side by side and it looks like it may fit inside the Mido. (The number of pins are exactly the same)
Does anyone have a spare Note 3 lying around and would be willing to test on their Mido? I'm curious on the camera quality as it is 16MP vs the 13MP.

Probably not as I saw that the MTK version has a slightly different connector than the SD (according to witrigs.com). I attached a screenshot of the image on their page.

the best site to get the camera module is aliexpress.com but it is also risky due to scamsters posing as sellers.
Anything new on this topic??
It just shows the Sensors supported by the Board and the Processor. Everything's in the firmware not in the ROMs.

Can Motion Sense (Soli) Be Force Enabled?

Clearly and this time, there are limitations as per launching the device to certain countries like India and Japan on wait. Project SOLI requires a certain 60ish frequency in order to work. My question is can this be force enabled to countries that don't support it? I am planning to purchase it from US but my country is not on the list that supports it so apparently it'll become useless brick when I plan to use it here.

If I read correctly, no. Because it checks to see what carrier you are on and if you were not on the whitelist, then it won't work. I was actually talking to somebody from India the other day about that and I mentioned that. You could have one imported, but I don't believe it will work
Thanks mate. That's just sad. I was really looking forward on having this one. Bad move Google, really bad.
How I understand it is, it's not really Google's fault. India just won't allow the technology there. Hell, Google had to get permission from the FCC to test it, here. It is a radar after all, which is what I keep trying to tell people when they keep trying to compare it to the LG's air gestures or any other phone that had air gestures. This is a completely new animal. I feel your pain though. similar to how people felt about OnePlus only releasing the 7T in the states and not the T pro version. Not that I would have bought either, but it's a similar instance
I wouldn't write off the phone completely; some smart guys may figure out a way to bypass the checks. I'm in no way saying this will happen but somewhat similar feats have been accomplished before.
This is true as well
Any idea if FaceUnlock requires the Soli radar chip to function or would it work with MotionSense disabled?
Also, could someone please throw some light on cons of getting the phone from USA and using it in India? (Apart from the warranty and power adapter pins).?
1. Would / could it be geo blocked totally ??
2. Would FaceUnlock work without Soli?
3. Would it support Indian carrier frequencies ??
Etc
Thanks in advance

it's my understanding that face unlock is independent of soli. But at times it uses soli to make unlocking a little bit faster and easier, if that makes any sense. Face unlock is just a couple of IR sensors, the flood illuminator and the dot projector, that has nothing to do with soli radar, which currently is banned from India. So here's an example of it working. You lock it, then bring it to your face and double tap the screen and it will unlock. But you will not be able to use the soli side of the features that allow it to virtually unlock in a more fluid motion. Soli detects your hand approaching the device and activates the screen, then the face unlock kicks in. Without soli, you would have to manually wake the device first. So, IMO, it would not be worth importing a pixel to India, unless you were absolutely positive that you could unlock the soli feature. As far as it supporting Indian frequencies. That's basically a shot in the dark, since nobody in India has the device right now to test it. Or at least we haven't heard of anybody
All true but I'm not certain that there isn't other ways the phone may be woke because we know soli can be wholly disabled and it seems unlikely that the next step would be the physical power button. As an example it may be possible that the accelerometer will also wake up the phone, DTTW, etc. Certainly were I planning on importing it I'd want to know that because I agree that it would really ruin the ownership experience to have to hit the button to wake it up every time.
This is true, I forgot about raise to wake

Yes, so without Soli, it would be 'just like any other Face Unlock(read: FaceID, as Google tried to emphasize)', there shouldn't be issues with the carrier frequencies too but who know if they (can/could) Geo-block it? I also understand that the e-Sim wouldn't be enabled for Indian carriers either.
Looks like Google just doesn't want the phone to be used by anyone in India.
or, let's hope they launch a Pixel4a without Soli in India.

As I stated in another thread, I don't believe that it was Google's decision, but rather, India's. India wont allow the soli tech because of the frequencies it uses. At least that's my understanding. In America, they had to get permission from the FCC just to test it. But that still doesn't detract from the face unlock feature which is still the first of it's kind on an android device. I am looking forward to unlocking in the dark, rather than being blinded by an in screen fingerprint sensor
To be honest Soli itself doesn't have a big use case right now, it's actually a little surprising to me how little it's utilized when it could do so much more. I wouldn't buy this phone because of it as it is and the lack of it does little to change the phone in my mind. That is based on my own use however and others may find the current features more valuable. Longer term I expect more to be added to it and those possibilities are more what I'm interested in that what it does now. An example: Why isn't it possible to be washing the dishes, get a call I want to take, and make a motion with my wet dish washing hands to take the call and send it to speakerphone? There are many similar things I can think of right off the bat and some of them or even all of them may come to pass if they allow us to start making our own gestures and assign them to functions. That's the Soli I'm interested in, the one that doesn't exist yet.

I agree, it's certainly underwhelming at this point. But the tech is there, just need Google to stick the landing with upcoming software updates, implementing new features, including your scenario.
Forcing it in unsupported countries is very likely possible to do based on my analysis of the leaked Motion Sense APKs. However, I won't share what I know about it because you'll be broadcasting on unlicensed radio waves in your country. I'm sure someone else will figure out how it's done in no time, though.

Please let us know if you figured out if its at least possible on your unit! Is it a deal breaker though if it wouldn't work ? do you find yourself relying on it much or is it necessary and finally do the phone's other merits outweigh the lack of motion sense as i am considering pre-ordering it but really ambivalent
thanks
I've imported Pixel 4 XL to use in Indonesia and really really disappointed that I can't utilise this technology. Waiting for someone to create a utility, kernel, or anything, to force enable soli chip..

What are you exactly disappointed? I am not so sure to the grave of annoyance but if face unlock works with waking up the phone, I'd be happy with that. The wave gestures sure is fun but for practical use and the frequency of using it is close to none in most situations. Thanks. I am considering the phone so if you could please share your experience with the phone with its limitation atm, or anything that I should be aware, that would be of great help and appreciated.

General Snapdragon 888 vs Exynos 2100 after latest updates

I know there are already a few threads for the same discussion ,
But I am making this thread for a healthy discussion on what's better between Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 after the latest software updates for both models .
There are youtube reviews that are contradictory to each other
1) Mrwhosetheboss says Snapdragon is way better and Exynos is heating like crazy.
Also in camera sd>exynos
2) The tech chap on the other hand says Exynos to be faster and cooler .
Let's discuss
I am planning to buy the s21 ultra over the OnePlus 9 pro just because I am getting it at the same price as OnePlus 9 pro ,
Also the software on OnePlus is always going to be buggy and an update to fix one issue will create more bugs .

After my experience with the Exynos, I'm far more inclined to believe the Tech Chap. I've had no issues with thermal throttling, and my phone sits most of the time at between 28 and 32 degrees when being used under normal circumstances (browsing, light camera use etc). I've also run the benchmarks he ran and got pretty much the same results. I'm very happy with it.
I strongly suspect that boss geezer just had bad luck and picked up an Exynos model with a bad SOC. The difference between the two is he didn't buy another to rule that out.

Ambient temp makes a difference, but my experience of mobile phones in the UK over the last 25+ years, not massively so.

You say even Apple iPhones but they're dogs**t when it comes to thermal dissipation, in particular the more recent ones.
All I can say is that this phone is no worse than any others I've had when it comes to thermals, and seems to be better than most of them.
After I contemplated a lot, I went for it and purchased the EXYNOS version as I live in Europe and the Snapdragon seems to be Single SIM, so no point ordering it from Amazon.
Mrwhostheboss either had a faulty unit or at the time of his video, the update he put wasn't enough to fix the software issues.
Mine works fine, no overheating (gets a bit warm when doing heavier tasks, ~22c ambient room temps), no camera problems or glitches, all seems good. The camera quality is pretty fine too, although it did definitely improve further after I installed the last update. When I tested the camera out of the box, it was all weird.
Battery life for me is quite fine as well. At the time of writing this message I got SOT 1h45m and battery is at 78%. Plenty of apps installed, Dual SIMs active. AOD active.
I also have the Dr. Ketan ROM with root, AFWall and etc. So I slightly debloated the useless stuff.
I am satisfied with the EXYNOS, and although I have no way to test them next to each other, I'm sure that If the SNAP is better in some ways, it is NOT in others, like NO DUAL SIM.... And for sure if there is anything left to fix on the EXYNOS, they will fix it with the upcoming updates.
But again, if you buy an EXYNOS, make sure you do it right. Start it, install all your apps, make sure you update it to the latest firmware version and then start testing it. If it has problems, factory reset it and return it for a new one.
Good luck!!!

In india there is nothing as return ..
Once paid the device is yours till it has some major issues and they are just repaired ,
Unfortunately We cannot return it for a refund here in india .
That is why thinking twice before buying .
I have no overheating problems with my Exynos unit. Phone idles at around 25-30degC.
Yo bro,
Listen, avoid YouTube reviews. Bro these ppl are just benefiting from these kindda arguments and stuff.
I had the s21 ultra 512 and i sold it coz i have literally watched every single review out there and was too worried i might have been scammed or made the wrong choice.
After talking to some ppl here i bought it again and this time i made sure i cleared my search history lol and never ever to watch a thing.
It is not SD888 but it is close, it has good battery, cameras are barely any difference between them. If you game a lot you should really just buy a different phone just for gaming.
The screen is phenomenal.
Bro i live in Kuwait, temps here reach 55°....until now i have not experienced any extreme heating issues.
My advice to you, don't listen to anything, the device is amazing...yes it lacks behind the SD888 but for me it's the better pick.. i get warranty for a year and a trade on later or i can even sell it and not lose while the imported is basically non sellable here.
So weigh things out and decide, once you decide do not regret. Do not hesitate it's just a phone, if you have a slight doubt avoid it and wait for a different phone.
Goodluck.

Camera has improved on the exynos with updates, personally I still feel low light video and photos are just ok, but anything in decent light is great, and I don't have anything other than a pixel 3 to compare to, so not a fair fight as the camera tech on that is old.
In regards to the video, mr whos the boss was using antutu for temperatures and it's well known that at that time it couldn't read exynos temps properly. When I had antutu, it showed around 40 degrees, but CPU monitor was around 25 degrees
I've got the exynos and had no real issues to date, battery life is sometimes great, sometime ok, but more than enough to do me from morning to night with my usage. Other than that can't complain at all
Should wait for the xiaomi's launch today?

Yo bro,
Listen, avoid YouTube reviews.
Goodluck.

That temp thing with Antutu makes sense, I was worried when I first got my phone as it was listing my CPU temperature in the low 50s but then I installed CPU Monitor and it showed it was around 30 degrees. Maybe MrWhosTheBoss should have done a bit more research.
It's funny reading the comments on that video. Thousands of people talking about the S21 Ultra being rubbish on Exynos without having the first clue what they're talking about. It goes to show how a badly made video can really effect how a phone is perceived.

Exactly and there is me researching this from a week before buying it .
Also tried to stress the camera on the demo unit at a samsung store , but it was warm to touch but not at all hot ..
By the way , as OnePlus markets their 9 pro with 5 layer cooling system , how's the cooling on s21 ultra?
JerryRigEverything did a teardown, but it's the SD varient. I'm not sure if the cooling solution on Exynos differs.

The Samsung is much more aggressive with its thermal throttling than the mi 11 (A good thing or a bad thing depending on what you want in a phone), don't know about the oneplus or how effective it's cooling system actually is (could just be a gimmick/branding, but I don't know).
I would say from what I've seen, s21u has better battery, genuine adaptive refresh, marginally photos cameras but much more versatile camera array, better software.
Mi11 better charging and sustained gaming
Early oneplus reviews have middling battery life, but an educated guess that they haven't enabled the variable refresh yet on the pro, as it seems to last the same amount of time as the base model.
In all honesty, if you aren't sure, wait a month or so for the 'long term' reviews, then you will get a better idea of the final product

I am getting the s21 u e2100 today .. let's hope I get a good silicon compared to what some people have got
I seriously have a feeling that both versions of the phone are nearly identical in performance and camera quality. The primary reason why we see so many threads regarding heat issues, app crash issues or battery issues are not necessarily due to the versions of the phone that are being used (Exynos or Snapdragon)... But instead, I think that this is mainly due to the fact that a lot of Samsung's phone sales are to people who aren't very tech friendly....at all...
I mean, think of Apple's iPhone market. What percentage of their customers are tech geniuses who know everything about complete device care and optimization? I'd say, near me in the US, maybe about 3-5% of their customers... And with that said, you have to keep in mind that Samsung is the most Apple equivalent company in sales numbers for Android devices in the US. So probably only about 1-2% of their phone customers actually know what the heck they're doing.
So (internally thought lol) truth be told, I don't think one variant is better than the other. I just think that we need to keep in mind the fact that the Samsung phone market is packed to the gills with customers who don't know much at all regarding the technology that's used or how it works/can be optimized or made better. Luckily for us on this particular thread, we probably don't run into the aforementioned issues as we're likely all people who actually know how to use, care for and optimize a damn smart phone lol.
Side note: this was a long comment, so my apologies.
*Edit* - To respond to @aj7400 without wasting more post space :
The US isn't really a particularly cold area. It's just a much bigger area. So there are certainly some states where the temperature stays cold for a while... But there are tons of other places where it stays over 23°C all year round (and a few states where it stays above 33°C all year). So overall, I still believe that these issues are just coming up due to a severe lack of knowledge =(. But the good thing for you is that you actually appear to know what the deal is, hence why you're here on XDA. Thanks for being here =). But ya see what I mean? You were aware of the slightly warmer temperature of the S21U and you were aware of the fact that you live in a hot area. Therefore, you're not constantly complaining about the phone being borked out of the box, but instead, you're looking for potential solutions. Kudos!

That's allright ,
But imo apple is from day 1 producing good chips and their optimization is top notch ,
And samsung in US is just offering Snapdragon .
That's the main reason people are not complaining about both , and they don't care what are the specs in their phone .
Also US is a relatively cold area so not much is going around throttling issues .
I live in india where highest temps reach 45°C , where the real problem of thermal throttling arise .
So I care much about these things .

Question Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Compass

Sorry, I know this is the GW4 forum, but I couldn't find a GW5 forum. If there is one, please point me the way.
Anyone else having issues with the compass? On my GW4 classic, once I calibrate the compass it stays calibrated. Every time I open it, it points the correct direction.
Ok my GW5 Pro, the compass will not stay calibrated. Sometimes when I calibrate, it's way off. Other times it's accurate. But if I move my wrist or turn too quickly it will be off by several degrees. I've tried with True North and Magnetic North.
Software issue, or hardware issue?
That sounds more software than hardware. But I don't think it would hurt to reach out to Samsung and ask about it. They may have a software fix coming for it since it's just released or it may need to be replaced idk
I don't have any problems with the compass. GW5 Pro UK.
watch this review's section on the compass. Exactly what you describe. I hope there will be updates that will fix this.
Yeah, mines all over the place. I originally had a grey watch 5, but didn't like the color, so I sent it back and got the silver. The grey one worked perfectly, this silver one is pretty much never right..
Ok so I'm not the only one. Was wondering if I needed to exchange but doesn't sound like that would help. Thanks!
Make sure to report it guys. Go to contact us in the gear manager app, then tell them what's going on with it. The more folks do this, the better the chances are that it will get fixed quickly.

I think i know why is that happening.. When i took off that magnetic band off from my gw5 pro that compass issue dissapered. Also when i closed up the app and opened it again, compass was still calibrated. But as soon as i put that band back on it was not accurate again. So i think that magnet is messing up that compass ..

I have the non pro 5 and have this problem.. It's not the band, at least not for me.

Im sure for 90% its because of magnet on gw5 pro because it messed up compass on my mobile phone (Samsung galaxy s21 5g) same way as on watches when i put that band close to the phone. I hope im wrong because i like that band so much.

Well, I don't have that band on mine, so, that is definitely not my issue. Mine at least points in the general direction of North, most of the time. It's just crazy to me that Samsung would push out a watch that's meant for hiking and outdoors stuff with a compass that doesn't work.. It would suck to find out the hard way...

Also i just found out that even when band its of, it can still break calibration even from up to 20cm from band! Crazy!! Everything is all right when band is far from watches but as soon as i put it "too close" compass its ****ed up. Anyway it annoys me that i bought device for 460€ and its not working properly. for me its working totally fine without band.. If im right , its shame that big brain Samsung engineers did put out device with that stupid fault. Even more so when they was talking about that band as one of the selling points. If its because of that magnet there should be some compensation for gw5 users something as free diferrent band or something. In your case it should be software or defective piece.
I've seen this on a few YT videos, but I don't have this issue with my GW5 Pro, even with the original band with a magnet. Every time I opened the compass app it worked perfectly and the direction didn't change with any movement.
Could it be that the problem is a combination of hardware and software? It's possible that different watch batches have slighty different hardware compass and need a different sensitivity calibration?
The magnetic flux compass uses magnetic sensors. Metallic and magnetic objects in the vicinity can influence the local magnetic field. Calibration is needed to compensate for disturbances and get a better reading.
That some need to calibrate more than others is perfectly normal, as some may experience more/different magnetic disturbance in his location/situation than others.
It is not Samsungs error, but inherently connected to magnetic flux compasses.
The accuracy of the compass reading will probably never be better than 10-15° anyway. For instance, local earth magnetic anomalies, so called Variation, is not being compensated by the algorithms used by the watch and the magnetic North Pole lies in a different spot than the real geographic North Pole (earth rotation axis) - which is by the way also not steady in one spot as the earth rotation axis actually wobbles a bit.
My suggestion: don't make a fuss over this calibration or accuracy thing and just calibrate before you require a best possible compass reading - whatever your use-case may be.... It is more like a gimmick anyway.

Except that this IS a Samsung error. I, as well as others in this thread and on Reddit will calibrate the compass, then even SECONDS later it's off. And I mean, it can be OFF. Mines North has straight up pointed South, as well as most other directions.
Anyway, I wonder if it's hardware related? Because, mine is really bad, as well as some others, meanwhile, plenty of folks are pretty much spot on. My watch 4 was, I even put it up against my first watch 5 (got one color, didn't like it, so got a different one), and the 4 pointed as true as you can get, while the 5 was way off. The second 5 is the same way too. I don't know, might RMA it to see if a different one does better..
I have the 44mm BT model with the D-Buckle strap that has the magnet in it and have had no issues with the compass, so I do not think it is the D-Buckle causing the issue on the Pro model.
