This is an unofficial port of the TWRP recovery for the Zenfone 3.
Thanks to @shakalaca for providing the base!
What Works?
No major issues found
What's broken?
You tell me!
Asus stock rom and TWRP
If you want to use asus stock rom and TWRP together you may have to flash Magisk after installing TWRP. Not doing so may result in a bootloop: Users have reported that stock rom without Magisk doesn't boot when TWRP is installed.
This doesn't apply to custom roms.

Using the treble supported TWRP fixed the vendor mount problem but I get into a bootloop when I try to install Magisk (latest version). I'm using the Havoc ROM (Android 8.1.0 - Treble Supported).
Edit: Got Magisk running by using a modified version for Treble.

Hello I also installed the same ROM plus the Recovery of Red Wolf, remember that since its a treble you cannot mount vendor, but actually its easier than anything, why? cause the RR its based on Lineage OS and this last one is based on Cyanogen Mod, at the end what im trying to say its that the root services are already included in the ROM you only need to "unlock it" so i have the link for that, you only need to install this addon in .zip format (all the links and products are not mine, so please give thanks to the amazing developers). This is the official link and it also comes with an instructive step by step, I did the install trough sideload and now is working!
Example of command with adb sideload: C:\Users\kaks\Downloads\adb\adb sideload "C:\Users\kaks\Downloads\adb\addonsu-15.1-arm64-signed.zip"
www . cyanogenmods.org / root-lineageos-15-1-android-oreo-rom /
Hope this work for you as it did for me

The official TWRP????
If not, please provide us the link of that TWRP which doesn't require this zip to be flashed after flashing stock ROM. I am planning to upgrade my device from Oreo to Pie, but I read somewhere that flashing decrypt.zip of Pie is erasing MAC IDs of wifi adapter. Can you please confirm that this zip is not erasing MAC ID of wifi adapter?
dang it, I got system corrupt notice after unlocked bootloader notice. Then it goes turn off.
After that I got that notice again while using pie firmware, any suggestions?

Thanks. I will try when I will arrived to home.
Is it control vendor partition too...?
I've installed your TWRP.
Unfortunately it is cannot bypass the encryption-decryption problem. Unfortunately, "format data" is required...
I need TWRP for Global Stable...but if I format data, after no SIM-card, and other problems (not suitable for MIUI incremental OTA)...this is good for custom roms only.
But very-very thanks your work.
Maybe next build will be better.

please read, phone aka bootloader is unlocked.
Sorry. I ve read wrong.
So. On new phones need different install method
1.fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
2.fastboot boot recoveryname.img
(if img booted, you need reflash third recoveryname.img in TWRP, and you need install Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_02.04.2019.zip then reboot if you want to use stock system)
or
1.fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
2.press an hold volume up
3.fastboot reboot command (on pc, press enter...but hold volume up constantly)
4.maybe then after mi logo, TWRP will launching
5.make format data with TWRP
6.install custom ROM
Day by day Xiaomi system is more closed.

Wow, twrp 3.1.1, impressive. I really didn't think that we could get it up that high. Good work! And feel free to try a higher twrp version (minimal manifest 8.1 does give you twrp 3.3.1 )
Btw, decompiled your recovery. Not sure where you have your twrp flags, but whatever board config file they are in, add in TW_EXCLUDE_SUPERSU := true , as magisk is the replacement to supersu

Minimal manifest from Lineage only goes to nougat. The rest of twrp is on Omni. I have to rebrand everything to Omni and there are other changes that need to be made for it to build. It's gonna take some time and I don't have a lot of it right now. BTW I have twrp working on mb886 but you have to use a mouse. I got lineage 13 to install on it but am having trouble with 14.1.

Sorry for a novice question. Can I install the TWRP image in my xt907 TWRP on my xt926.

If you have JBBL you can use the TWRP from the link to androidfilehost. It's specifically made for the xt926 but only if you have jelly bean boot loader and not Kit Kat boot loader.

I have a jbbl. But can I directly install the image file while in the TWRP that I currently have which is the jbbl for the 907 version 3.1.1 or do I have to side load it again. Sorry for the basic questions i am a novice.

I don't have the ahd available right now, its in a box somewhere, but i will test as soon as i can. I can still look at it by decompiling the img though.
If you grab up omni's android_bootable_recovery and replace it with what you have in your local directory, it should work. For fun, i've taken out my old droid x and did a swap like that and it worked. Like i said, just passing along some ideas/advice.

Unless you change recovery to the xt926_jbbl version you will get error 7. Recovery is looking for the assert line in the rom zip file which prevents people from flashing the wrong rom. There's plenty of threads here that guide you how to flash recovery. Once you flash recovery and rom your phone will show as Razr HD and screen resolution will be correct. Also HDMI out will work.
Using minimal ADB and Fastboot
Make sure recovery image is in adb and fastboot folder
1. Rename twrp image to recovery.img
2. "Adb reboot bootloader"
3. "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. "fastboot reboot"
Leave out quotes

OMG OMG can you say TWRP 3.3.1-0 for the xt926_jbbl and xt907_jbbl? You were right!! New life for these old devices? I made one to test on the xt907. I did a backup and all seems well. I'll try the version for the xt926 when i get off work and post it on androidfilehost. Kudos

Your right, I'll have to find out where it went. It's still on the Feb 06 version (Jan 5 security patch date)
I must say that your rom is very nimble like DiamondJohn's roms. It is a very big deal when you are dealing with 1GB of ram.
I have other old devices (like a Motorola Xoom) with custom roms that are problematic with 1GB of ram.
Thank you very much

You need to upgrade to latest Oreo FW, the flash oem.img via fastboot or twrp, format data, flash lineage zip in twrp.

Thank you and elm_bacchus again for the help
Well well this all went well, most of my time went in to trying to flash the wrong TWRP for XZ but after that, it worked in my second attempt :good:
After flashing the SW binaries and format data I got this message again in TWRP : Failed to mount ´/oem in red letters. But I just continued flashing the ROM in TWRP and it worked like a charm.
Kind regards

@Sjll:
It seems that this build doesn't support ExFat on External SDCards, am I right ?
And:
What TWRP-Version do you recommend ? The lastest offical 3.3.1-0 doesn't mount /data, so every time I enter TWRP I have to format data ...
Thanks for this. I followed the instructions and it worked.
I forgot that my SDcard was encrypted and lost my photos but hey ho.
@Sjll is there a git repository for this ROM ?

It works for me on the F8331 device.
XZs build (keyaki)?
By chance is there a choice for 15.1 for Keyaki? It is stated to choose Kagura, are there other choices for the XZ variants? Would like to update to 8.1, 9, or 10 binaries and read the build instructions from source for Lineage but am wondering if all I need are the kernel binaries to complie Lineage (15.1, 16, 17, 17.1) for the XZS. There is practically nothing for the XZS and it would be helpful to know how to provide other roms for it as well. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know what the latest Android security update supported is on this ROM?
Some bugs
Hello, I've been using as my daily for a week now and I've noticed some bugs
1) the camera works but it's bad not even close to stock. The picture is dark and dim.
2) sometimes the wifi doesn't open or close no matter how much you try only restarting the phone helps.
3)sometimes the phone doesn't charge even when it's showing charging.
I hope these bugs can be solved asap because I love this rom its stable, smooth and fast with good battery life. Thanks.
