Huawei GPU TURBO Confirmed NOT coming to ANY USA Devices - Huawei Mate 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Looks like the USA is getting screwed by Huawei. Likely due to its treatment by the US government. This pisses me off because I have a USA Mate 10 Pro that rarely gets any updates. How do I rebrand this piece of ****?

I have it in writing from Huawei support that we were getting these updates.... The face unlock and the gpu turbo... I also have a BLA-A09 Mate 10 Pro. This does piss me off...

Unfortunately, technical support people just read from a script and are likely the last to know the truth.

If you unlocked the bootloader. You can manually flash the .img via fastboot or twrp. But judging from the way you describe your situation; you havent unlock your' device thus may not be rebrand or mnually update.

I just called huawei and ripped them a new a**hole. I suggest everyone do the same.
Huawei Customer Service 1-888-548-2934
They claimed that the "rumors" are not official and the updates will come in batches and although the usa variant has not been officially announced they "are working on it".
I specifically quoted android authority and after checking they said that news is "misleading"

Ugh.. tagging along here as well from the USA. I love my Mate 10 just hate that we dont get the new goodies. I was hoping not to deal with unlocking and such.

And now that Huawei is not allowing to unlock bootloader, it's gonna be really hard to do something if something comes up, like rebranding or something.

you can just use https://www.dc-unlocker.com/ to unlock the bootloader

I got my unlock code when I first got the phone just in case. just never processed it because there was not a need.
granted my device has been flawless for me. No BT issues, no reboots. it works quite well. wifi hot spot was enabled too which i could not do with a google device unless I rooted

Oh so what if you bought a 2000 dollar proche design mate 10

If you did that, you probably have enough money to buy the international version of the phone.

GPU turbo isn't a big deal at all.
You should all have read about the benchmark cheating of Kirin 970 devices and by now you should have read that the Mate 10 Pro is inferior to a Snapdragon 820 in terms of GPU.
Getting ~10% better performance out of a GPU that is worse than the Snapdragon 820 will do nothing.
Just don't buy Huawei devices in the future.

I have noticed a massive improvement playing Pubg mobile. framerates are not necessarily higher but no overheating anymore and no framedrops, its a lot smoother now and unlike before i can play a full 30min match without having 15fps at the end of the game. I agree that huawei is nto a good choice for gaming though.... I feel like the gpu turbo was a necessity rather than "great product support"

Hey everyone,
I just had to do some clean-up on this thread. I understand that there are definitely some feelings on both sides of the argument here, but regardless of where you stand, politics are not allowed on XDA (see XDA Forum Rule 2.4).
We are a forum dedicated to tinkering with our mobile devices. Let's remember that we are a community of people with similar interests and focus on that instead of focusing on all the negative crap going on in the world.
Thanks!

Hi all
This is a great little device.
Myself got two of these , and will probably stuck with one of them...
What do you think about the device ?
Is there something you'll like to have on an future OTA?
( maybe some huawei employee comes in and read it ) haha
Any downside ?
Cheers

I have a question for anyone who owns this device. It apparently has NFC but has anyone actually used it with android pay and did it work ? I contacted google support and they could not verify it was certified for android pay and suggested contacting manufacturer.
EDIT: I can now verify that android pay does indeed work well on this device, I have the european version.
Hello,
My question concerns shell:
Or can one find a shell for the European version, without imprint reader?
Thanks,
Hi,
I am planning to get a new phone. I was going to buy moto g4 plus but because of many negative feedback and heating issues, I am not going to buy that. I have not seen much posts about performance of Honor 5c, it must be either Honor 5c is performing well or there are not enough buyers to post on xda forum. Is there any issues about this phone I should be worried about?

Had the european version now for a few weeks. It runs well but i have disabled all the honor bloatware that came with it and am also using greenify. Don't want to root cause it may break my android pay so i can't completely remove the apps but disabling them is enough for now. No weird unexplained reboots/freezes till now and no lags. The G4+ has a bigger/brighter screen, according to the reviews I've read, but NFC was important to me and the G4+ doesn't have it.

Its been performing well, no weird software issues like on miui, smooth and stable, battery life is pretty amazing (check my screenshots), i also wanted to buy g4+ but the big size pushed me away, i just wish the speaker was a little better quality, can't really use it for watching YouTube videos, otherwise a good buy for me

5C has the great Camera and Great call receiving capacity due to its dual antenna in the $150 dollar segment. But other things were not good.
If you have extra 70$, you can go for G4 plus for great camera. But if you are a heavy gamer, I would say a big NO.
So it depends on your preferences.

Note 9 vs Huawei Mate 20

You guys seen the latest hands on? The mate 20 is nuts. Love my 9, but that camera!
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/huawei-mate-20-pro-vs-samsung-galaxy-note-9/
If it was available in the US(VZW), I would definitely be getting it. But our govt doesn't like Huawei.
It's nice and all but it's not a Note. Plus at $1200 I would have to pass unless there were some kind of trade incentive. I don't trust Huawei enough to give them my personal info either.
Yea. the whole potential spying on the customers would be a dent. Then again.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/paranoia-will-destroy-you-why-chinese-tech-isnt-spying-on-us/
I'd presume it's unlikely and probably safe.
Google already spy on everything you do, what's one more set of eyes?

Phones are not secure at all. The Chinese government can't keep there phones. Also my work won't allow it to even be in our building. To much sensitive data.
I was very interested in the Mate 10 a while ago but the one drawback that the Mate 20 series continues with is no support for WiFi calling, which I rely on due to our limited network coverage.

Performance not good as they claim. After some big problems ( or scandals) they got, I think we need to wait to confirm it good or not.
eMMC instead of UFS on P10/P10+, noisy about Kirin 970 but it not good enough + thermal problem, benchmark cheating ...
Huawei fear mongering sure seems to have worked. I'd still by a Huawei but not at that price.

Exactly, comparing any phone to a Note is kinda pointless.
It's in a class of its own,not necessarily better,but,it's a unicorn.
Buy it for the S-Pen &/or the aesthetic/feel-in-hand,otherwise,there's an ocean of phones to choose from.

Totally agree, all the mfgs & service providers, regardless of country of origin, use the same playbook,no need to fear one any more (or less) than another, regarding safeguarding your privacy/info.
also, no unlocking of the bootloader, have a mate 10 pro that i keep on a lower firmware since if i update i get a newer version of xloader so i can't downgrade without bricking the device
I don't trust Huawei. They cheated on benchmarks, they lied about camera possibilities on P20 Pro (slo-mo). Not enough convinced in what they claim.
Gotta wonder how that 4200 man battery will do. Maybe lies as well...
Huawei I would not touch again even if someone offered one to me. Great hardware crap software. The way that they think that they are Apple is just beyond joke. Now what I mean by that is EMUI is just a poor version of iOS and the way they restrict third party launchers from working on their phones is beyond joke. The amount of people moaning about the performance when they install pixel launchers is crazy.
I had that issue and I just hate the way they try to make you use Huawei Home launcher and scare you with safety notifications. So for me to be back on Samsung and having the note 9 which has a headphone Jack memory and no notch I say thank you very much.
No lte band 71, no wifi calling. No us warranty.
They chose the winner out of specsheets only? Wow. What a review.
I had a P20 Pro and was pretty disappointed in the camera. Sure the Night Mode was awesome but that was it. Otherwise for the most part it produced highly unrealistic images with waaay too agressive HDR/tone mapping. It really looked terrible at times. I found myself having to work against the camera on the P20 Pro to get the photos I wanted. I much prefer the photos my Note 9 gives me.
Also the P20 Pro had horrible optimization of software. Very choppy specially in all Google apps that stutters a lot. The software is overall pretty aggressive in its RAM handling and you won't get all notifications no matter what you do. The developers of the VLC app blocked Huawei phones from downloading their app becuase of their background process restrictions.
I do like Huawei and I've had a few of their phones but I do not like the direction they are taking with their cameras specifically.

also, super slow updates...
never a huawei phone again.
i work in IT and have been "bribed" (free dinners with lots of alcohol) by huawei to get us to switch from cisco to their stuff in several datacenters.

so... what next?

So alot of people (especially in the UK) will be coming to the end of contract and life cycle on the p20. The question is....what next.
Do we go p40 without Google services or look at something different?
Iv loved the p20, it's been reliable and solid, but I'm a Google loyalist. I use the services and apps and the idea of losing apps iv paid for already on Google play just seems a step to far.
Iv found updates painfully slow to arrive through O2, months and months behind. So definitely an unlocked from carrier handset next.
But what one?
Samsung
One Plus
Or something completely different?
I love my phone, but unfortunately i came to get too annoyed with the software.
I will be switching to either Xiaomi, oneplus (doubt about oneplus but i'll see).
Until Huawei releases harmony os, i will not buy their stuff anymore. Great hardware, **** software.

Yes. This mi 10 pro seems like a decent upgrade.
If you want updates to your phone, you have 2 choices. Iphone or pixel.
OnePlus is super easy to unlock the bootloader and will not void the warranty. Then just use lineageOS.
I had enough of of the Huawei software. I was expecting Android 10 by now, but nothings been said about that release for a while now.
Add locked bootloaders and no development, made a rather boring phone. It was the only Android phone I've ever had which didn't even get a working TWRP after 2 years!
I went for the Pixel 4XL yesterday, and I'm very happy with it. Bootloader unlocked, rooted and GPay working fine

According to current information it's 4999 yuan which is more expensive than previous releases but it's still cheaper than OnePlus 7T Pro, not to mention Samsung or Pixel and iPhone. I am afraid it'll be more pricey in Europe though. Lack of IP rating is bad but I think I can live without it if the price is competitive.

If it is at least splash proof, then i am happy either way. Better that than nothing. Besides, MIUI is really good in terms of looks and customization. I don't know about the system apps and country-features restrictions. Let's see how the phone will perform.
Personally, the non-pro version is better than the pro, but let's wait first.
Oneplus is good too but still skeptical about them, after they got called out many times due to their software backdoors and insecurity.

It's supposed to be splash proof. Regular mi 10 has bigger battery but pro version has better camera.
If you care about software on any level - don't go with Xiaomi. They are even worse than Huawei with updates and their camera software is probably the worst on the market.
I think the "what's next" really depends on the personal preference and needs.
I personally would never go with anything without Google services. Software wise - Pixels lead, OnePlus are probably the second choice right now. Camera wise it's probably Pixel/Samsung. If you want to keep the price low, Xiaomi is probably the way to go but you will sacrifice things. I would say OnePlus is the most balanced, but if I wouldn't care for the price I would go with Pixel.
I've never owned Xiaomi and frankly speaking I am bit curious, especially that this year they claim they won't compete with other flagships with price factor only. I guess I'll order it online, use it and return it within 14 days if I don't like it. Samsung is not an option to me as I want a handset with SD 865 and my region is "blessed" with their Exynos. Pixel is overpriced on the other hand and designwise...just horrible. I'd rather go for OP if their quality check is improved this year.

True if you are willing to do all that. Last time I checked xiaomi.eu stopped supporting GCam ports on their official forum because they worked pretty terrible. I guess you can find some ROM like LineageOS that works with GCam, I didn't really look into it since I don't own a Xiaomi phone anymore.
If you just want to buy something that works out of the box they are not the best choice.

I'm sure you're right about previous releases. Thank you for your feedback. It's good to hear some critical voice before the final decision is made. However there are already camera comparisons between mi 10 pro and s20 ultra and these pics/videos looks pretty good. Mi 10 pro camera is supposed to be revolutionary and able to compete with other flagships. Well we'll see.
Oneplus 8 pro. Nothing comes close unless you want to spend £1200 on a pixel 5. If money isn't a problem then the latter would be comparable and the only phone that is.
Why do you need to upgrade? I'm holding off here in the UK until 5G becomes a reality and decent phones are available. New phones for 2020 so far (and into the Q2) don't really offer anything above what I currently have hardware wise. The phone works fine for me, battery lasts > 1 day even after 2 years.

Honestly for me so long as ois is on the camera and it's got "some" development, the screen is 90hz or over..I'm in.
The rest is a bonus.
Oh and I miss that DND hardware switch
Apparently waterproofing, wireless charging is all on its way.
My only problem will be the price if they're all added, personally I couldn't care less about wireless charging, not when it idles so well and charges as fast as it does..maybe if I started using it I'd become a fan but I can't see it at the moment.
Time will tell.
Plus if they don't have the 8 pro on my carrier I ain't getting it lol.

Seriously no EMUI 10.1 for the P20 Pro?

I read some news what said there will be no EMUI 10.1 for the P20 Pro.
What the duck, is this for real?
no one know...i think no emui 10 for p20 pro....lol

It should get 10.1, like every other phone.
I will not buy Huawei again, for sure. The phone's great, I really like the software, but updates are trash. Also, no bootloader unlock code.
What feature are you wanting from 10.1? This phone is 2 years old now, pretty much end of life for tech device. Not sure what people want from unlocking bootloader, there's pretty much zero development on this phone. Some crappy ROMs with broken stuff. You really not missing anything apart from ad blocking lol. Days of Rom dev are almost over unfortunately, buy an older phone if that's what you want.
"Not sure what people want from unlocking bootloader,"
Well, I could be able to revive one of my bricked devices. Complicated story, that is why this would be the only method.
"What feature are you wanting from 10.1?"
Everything new.
I wouldn't count on it. Android 11 is coming out next month and we still don't have EMUI 10 here in Australia.
Yep. It got confirmed that p20 pro will not get EMUI 10.1.
Emui 10 got delayed till June, and also we got removed from montly security updates.

While i agree with you that custom roms are dying, unfortunately you are completely wrong about the 2 year cycle of life.
All android manufacturers can push as many updates as Apple, but they refuse, because mob mentality. I paid a lot of cash for this phone only to be treated the same way as the P9 days : Delayed updates for x times, updates that got canceled because of unknown reasons and so on.
Huawei had the ability to come on top if they announced that phones from 2017 and up will get a lot of updates, since now they no longer have google services and they can easily use their OWN services to gain profit, just like Apple. They refuse to see it, they become stubborn, and me as a consumer will put my foot down and no longer buy phones from this brand, neither anything related to Huawei.
Great hardware, bad software.
I will have to waste 1k on an Iphone but at least i can be assured that i get a lot of support for more than those 2 years that android manufacturers provide.
Huawei, you deserve all you're getting. If you don't man up and stop with these PR stunts and "communism", the brand will die. Literally Xiaomi surpassed them!
I'm done with Huawei.
My next phone will be an OnePlus, Samsung or Xiaomi.
Huawei as a company became trash af.
I was in love with the brand since I got a Mate 10 lite - but what they're doing is nonsense bull****.
Great hardware, nice UI, but the attitude towards updates is seriously bad.
Without GMS and changes in their behavior, this company will get out from Europe maybe around 2025. At least their mobile section for sure.

If you don't plan to immediately switch to a custom ROM don't go with Xiaomi. They have terrible software, with hard-to-imagine amount of bloat and ad-ware. From my past experience they are even worse than Huawei in terms of updates.
If you live in any country that gets Exynos variants of Samsung phones - it's a waste of money. It's proven that they have far worse performance compared to the Snapdragon variants of the same model (at the same price). Don't know how fast Samsung rolls out updates now, but in the past they were very slow.

I don't have experience with OnePlus yet, but I'm considering it as an option for my next device.
I can't really imagine what "They're the "iPhone" of Android phones." means.
OnePlus phones are pretty open and have some nice custom ROM options. They are not as expensive as other flagship devices (although getting closer every year). In the last models they had some green tint issues with the screen (some say minor and limited). Overall considered to have good hardware and software.
That's more or less what I know, you probably can get much more (and more reliable) information on the OnePlus forums.

LOL you think Samsung or Xiaomi cares about software updates? Any company that produces 10+ lines of devices dont care about keeping up with updates.. only selling....
You want consistent updates, go with Apple, Google or even OnePlus, as they openly support 3rd party roms...
I'd also not go with Samsung. They are very poor with regards to updates as well. Xiaomi is fast with updates actually, but there skin really is ****. Think.. original touchwiz ****.
Apple, Google or OnePlus are the only options for updates. Though, if 'Murica decides to ban all tech to China, then oneplus is also out.
Did you know more about it?
No, we only get 10.0, as it seems.
Just came. Poland, Orange.

Update is live in UK as well. Went live four days ago.

Question Is the 10 Pro worth getting?

Greetings,
I've been browsing the sub for a bit and watched a few reviews about the phone because I have a pretty great deal for one and might consider buying it. I tried it out for a few minutes in a store the other day and it feels and looks great.
There seems to be a lot of negative talk, mostly against the fact that 1+ is now just a flagship, which I don't care too much about. Nor do I for the camera or selfie-notch or whatever.
Are the software issues and such really that annoying to deal with? Are there other phones you'd recommend instead? Am I better off just hoping the 11 is a greater phone and keeping my 7Pro for now?
Pre-thanks for the answers!
It is a great phone however if your fussy, like to modify and customize ect (live for the root) then you will find it frustrating
I find it's great, once i overcame the things i hated and removed, or rewrote some bits to get the outcome i wanted. Ease of use is great, camera is 9/10 IMO. It is a good phone regardless

good phone but don't buy ne2215 single sim i was f****d
Just a tough question.
If you want a great phone with superb performance and amazing hardware, plus an battery that just doesn't quit then yes.
But if you're expecting a flashers paradise which is what most OnePlus buyers want then I'm afraid the answer is a solid no, at least for now.
Any phone I've ever had before if it's going to prove to be a developers haven, we would already have ROMs popping up all over the place, alas with the 10 pro it's just not the case, then again neither is it with the pixel 6 or pro.
I hope it's not a sign of things to come, but for now it's a far cry from everybody's previous device.
Even the threads on XDA are convoluted and confusing, especially on the app.
I'd say look elsewhere but at least on paper, the two aforementioned devices are the best that is currently on offer.
Difficult time to buy unless you don't mind last gens phone. In which case I'd say go 8 pro or the 9 if flashing ROMs is your thing.
I hope it turns around but time is ticking away and the longer it goes on the slimmer the chances.
Pixel 6 Pro NOT worth buying !
After many bugs, new offer from google : "no network" (not from SIM , not from wifi). In the USA.

I ditched the Pixel 6 Pro awhile ago. Just too buggy with the first generation Tensor SoC....

listen mate go for xiaomi mi 11 ultra i regret that i sold it perfect phone
Would the nothing phone be worth considering?
Aesthetically it's a stunner IMO...
dladzI, too, like Nothing phone. For the design in the first place. The price is tempting.
I Hate rounded phones (dildo like), rounded corners, curved screen (useless expensive creap).
khapunkapif money is no issue get Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

XDA has been terrible over the years. The search feature is so flawed now it almost seems like a waste of time to tell people to search for anything. The app is garbage now and basically was a slap in the face to users who had to pay for the premium app back in the day to get good usability.

Loool at dildo phone. That made me chuckle.. what's the price on the nothing phone? Has that been provided yet?? Also one problem I may have with it is the SOC that's been chosen.
Design wise tho, looks amazing.
Plus Carl Pei on board can only be a good thing

Lol I forgot about that, but I did buy the premium app, then it just disappeared. The categories looks like someone made a change for the sake of making a change, it's less intuitive.
Oh wow, now that's some original OnePlus pricing..
Amazing
Nothing phone price for the smaller ram/storage around 460 euro
Oled, 120hz, 6,55 inch
Qualcomm SM7325-AE Snapdragon 778G+ 5G (6 nm) chipset (mid ranger)
Can you get it ? "Leakers" say is by invite only..., like OnePlus One was...

I have an invite so I could, just don't have the extra cash ATM, plus knowing my luck I'd get it then a tonne of custom ROMs would come out for the 10 pro.
Black or white ?.. i am so racist!..

Not that they're selling it in the US to begin with but I couldn't do a 778G+ chip. Gotta have a flagship. There is a massive gap between 778G+ and 8 gen 1.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 vs Snapdragon 778G Plus: tests and benchmarks
We put Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 against 778G Plus to find out which SoC is better. See performance comparison in benchmarks and games.
nanoreview.net
I had to go to a custom ROM thanks to OnePlus throttling the SoC on my 9 because the browsing performance was garbage without the X1 core and the 778G+ Geekbench single core score is similar to the throttled 9 performance. Thanks but no thanks.
Yes, the Nothing phone 778G+ chip is a big step backwards!
If money is a problem, Nothing phone is good. Nothing is around 470 euro, 10 Pro - 919 euro (8/128)
And SD 778 is the best performance processor for midrangers phones.
I like Very Much the design of OnePlus 10R (global Ace)
