QCOM "mode" from Motorola e5 Plus recovery menu - Moto E5 Questions & Answers

I stumbled across something pretty interesting with my new Moto e5 Plus....If you select the QCOM setting from the recovery/bootloader menu it will boot up normal but you will automatically be using all of the quallcom drivers to connect to your pc. Big deal you may say, but i just looked down and my new windows 10 laptop that my phone is plugged into is now using cellular and not wifi data. my hotspot isnt on, and i keep checking my data usage and its not going towards it. just gotta be careful not to go nuts on the unlimited data with Metro lol. Happy tethering all

Nice find.

Foxfi/Wifi Tethering Verizon Kit Kat

Didn't see a definitive answer: Anyone figure out Foxfi/PDANet wifi tethering? USB works fine, but Wifi tethering says to lock the screen, then either enter credential passwords that don't exist even after clearing credentials. Enabling the hotspot of course brings up subscription check. Any success or tips? Or is there another working wifi tether app, non root?
I'm picking up an X this week and this is important to me as well. I tether to me nexus 7 all the time.

Just updated to kit kat on my moto x and having the same problem. Verizon broke the foxfi app and none of the other non-root tethering apps appear to be working.
Does anyone know if the bluetooth tethering in pda net works on an unrooted kitkat x on vzw?
Very interested as well as I just got my Cyber Monday Moto X DevEd and my trusty Elixir Wifi toggle widget (or the Tasker equivalent) isn't doing the trick for me. This is vital to me as I have a grandfathered Verizon Unlimited plan and about 8-10 hrs of the day my Nexus 7 (and occasionally my laptop) is tethered.
This would possibly ruin my life... Not really, but I do connect to my phone far more than any other Wifi connection including my home Wifi. How else am I to bring down Verizons ridiculously immoral business model?
As for right now, I am keeping my trusty GS3 active until there is a solid fix, preferably root-not-required.
I used the method in this thread for native tether http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536166&page=4
on my verizon dev Moto X. Used the script in post 35. Worked great

This is my exact situation.
Also, I just spoke to motorola and they said it's impossible to revert back to 4.2.2. except if you root the device, which voids the warranty. Therefore, rooting is not preferred.
Also, the tech said that if you do not update an android device it will eventually force update itself. Is this true?
Will try the method used above in post #35.
So that option requires root, back to square one.

Suddenly unable to connect to home wifi

So my wife's motox decided to stop connecting to my home wifi/cable modem. My phone (LG G2) as well as all laptops/tablets connect fine. My G2 can see about 8 nearby networks, the MotoX always sees my neighbors network and occasionally a 2nd or 3rd but that's about it. If my home network finally shows up I enter the password and it immediately switches to "Out of range" and shows as a Saved network. I enabled the hotspot on my phone and the MotoX still didn't show the hotspot. Here are the things I've tried so far:
- Forget network and readd it if/when it finally shows up as a visible network.
- Cleared cache from recovery
- Rebooted
- Toggling airplane mode
- Disable just data
- Power cycled cable modem. Also Hard reset it and set the network back up.
- Disable wifi optimization, notify when open network is available, as well as the always allow scanning.
- Switched from auto to 2.4 Ghz only.
- Switched between multiple channels on router.
The MotoX is the Canadian version, 4.4.2 stock, unrooted. Router is an awesome Hitron piece of crap but it's been working perfectly fine for months.
Short of doing a factory reset, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

You have already tried everything that I would suggest, short of a factory reset. If you do factory reset, please let us know if it resolves your issue. Since you are not rooted, I'm confused as to how this could happen :/
Good Luck
I am assuming you have already unchecked the "avoid poor connections" option too in the wifi settings.

It was already unchecked so I didn't touch it.
Some routers can't handle certain number of conectinons, try rebooting your router
The router is built in with the cable modem which I've already rebooted as well as reset completely. Also with the phone only able to see a couple of networks at a time when there should be 8 - 10 visible at any time I think the phone is the problem. I just can't figure out what happened.

A few users have randomly had issues with WiFi, and their issues were only resolved by flashing the entire stock SBF as per the "Return to Stock" thread.
If a factory reset does not resolve your issue, you may consider SBFing back to stock. Since you will be flashing the stock rom (with matching CID), this is possible even with a locked bootloader.
Good Luck
I saw some posts about the SBF thing but wasn't sure if that applied to an unrooted / locked device or not. Thanks for the info.

An update for anyone looking for one. Her phone stated working fine yesterday on its own. It picked up and connected to our home network on its own and it can see all of the nearby networks like mine does.
Neither of us have done anything to it yet. Haven't touched the router or her phone since I first posted the problem.
Sorry I don't have an actual solution for you.

Ok so wifi decided to crap out again. This time I did a full wipe (internal storage included) and now wifi doesn't even turn on. It flips to ON for half a second then immediately back to off. Bluetooth does the same thing. I've called my provider (Rogers) and they're sending me another one.
Considering the wifi and bluetooth are on the same chip I guess the whole chip is toast or loose or something. Either way its well beyond a software fix.

You did a full wipe, but did you actually SBF back to stock? As I had commented previously, ONLY a full SBF back to stock can repair a corrupted filesystem. A "Full wipe" just erases cache and userdata.
SBFing actually REPLACES all the partitions. If you haven't tried, you can't say for certain that it is well beyond a software fix. It could have simply been a corrupt file...
Good Luck
If it was my phone I would have tried a SBF but considering it's my wife's she's a big more hesitant to let me and if they're sending us a new one, why bother?

[Q] Wifi Hotspot Toggle

Howdy all. I was wondering if anybody has been able to toggle the wifi hotspot via Tasker, software toggle, or anything like that?
I have tried to set up the task to toggle the hotspot in a number of ways. I've tried it native, Secure Settings, Wifi Hotspot Plugin, using toggle, on, and off options. It works to enable the hotspot, but it will not disable the hotspot. To disable I have to go into hotspot settings and manually disable. This led me to try a toggling via softwares such as Power Toggles and similar. Same results, hotspot will be enabled, but won't disable without entering hotspot settings and manually disabling.
This isn't a biggie, but it would be nice to be able to toggle the hotspot using Tasker via Pebble...
Thanks for any input!
Nope - it doesn't work! It is a biggie for me because I use a 7" Anroid Tablet in my car as my infotainment system. Via Tasker I have my phone turn on hotspot anytime it connects to my car's Bluetooth and turn it off when it disconnects from car. Worked great on my old S3.
Now with the Droid Turbo, it doesn't work. Tasker and some 3rd Party apps actually can turn on HotSpot but can't turn it off (which is the bigger deal since I will often forget to disable it and be burning data when I should be on wifi).
There is also a bug where if you enable it via Tasker or 3rd Party app, then when you disable it in the HotSpot Phone Settings, it will not automatically turn WiFi back on as it should. I have checked with support via Moto and Verizon and there is no fix for this other than hopefully in a future update.
Very annoying to get a phone that is 2.5 years newer and have it not work with basic things that your old phone did. Anyway, I'd recommend posting your desire for this in the official Motorola Forums for Droid Turbo and the Verizon Wireless Forums because those are the ones the companies actually look at to see what bugs are bothering people most and need to be fixed.
Wait... so you're able to enable Wi-Fi hotspot without root on droid turbo? Unlimited data? Or just because you can otherwise use Wi-Fi hotspot on a tiered plan and just want to automate?

This really bites. It was the whole reason I bought Tasker. I have a Maxx with KK and have the same experience. I can turn on the hot spot just fine with Tasker but it won't turn it off. I wanted the automation so I don't forget.

Be sure to join the official Motorola Website forums and post your complaint/concern. I think it may be the only place Moto's powers that be look to see what needs to be improved. But yeah, it's very annoying. Based on my experience so far, though there are many things I love about this phone, I don't think I'd go with Moto again.

I will do that. Does the same behavior exist with USB tethering too?
Steve
I don't know because I never considered that as a realistic option for my uses.

What my thought was is this: I have an Chinese android HU in my truck. It has 2 USB ports on it. I could use the USB port to charge the phone and tether through it also. Might even put a powered USB hub in the mix too. Thought this could easily be configured with tasker to set up.
Steve
BTW: Thanks for the great Tasker video's. I'm brand new to tasker and they've helped out.
Toggle Wi-Fi Hotspot 5.0
Here's a tasker plugin that you might find very useful:

Can't Connect to WiFi... Again

I have searched everything here. Tried the Internet, nothing. I have turned on all the WiFi options in Developer Options for WiFi. I have forgot my WiFi connection, rebooted, added my WiFi network on again and again. My WiFi network works on my Roku 3, my old S4 and my pos MacBook Pro, that I can only see 1/3 of the screen. I been trying to fix this for almost seven hours. I have toggled the WiFi etc. I am unlocked and rooted on 5.01. My WiFi doesn't see any WiFi networks period.
I would really really appreciate some help. I just had a shunt put in my eye for glaucoma and cataract surgery and I can't keep staring at this screen. I have severe ADD and it's really difficult for me not to stop trying.

Found the answer at Android Central. The answer is to power off phone. Press and hold onto Power Off until it offers Safe Mode. When the phone reboots, delete your WiFi network. Then add your WiFi network, put in your password and BOOM! Your WiFi CONNECTS! Then just turn the phone off and let it reboot. Finished.

[ASK] Moto g5s plus wifi keep disconnecting after few minutes stand by

Hi, I recently bought Moto G5s Plus, but I found some problem, like my Moto G5s Plus is keep disconnecting after not using for few minutes. I've tried Reset Default Network, and nothing changed. Is any reason? and what I must to do?
Disconnect (forget) and reconnect does help or restarting your phone? If not, must be your router issues mostly if you have more than the number of devices at your place. If that the case, you could set static ip address to each devices.
Sent from my XT1805 using Tapatalk
I've trying that, still being disconnected. I don't know about the router, but I'm trying with making hotspot from the another phone, and from my windows pc. still same like that. discconecting again after i lock the screen.
P.S : THhe WiFi I connect always showing disabled after first Connect
Based from you statement, that must be your router/wifi problem. Try unplugging it for 20 seconds then try to plug it again.

Hi, thanks for contributing in my thread
I found that, if the phone is not using WiFi (no activities) the WiFi will be disconected, I tested with download an apps in playstore, the WiFi still connect
That's a good feature in most modern phones to save battery. Afaik, there's an option to keep your phone from disconnecting from wifi even without you using it mostly if you're asleep.
