Double tap to wake broken after screen replacement - Nokia 8 Sirocco Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I had my screen replaced after it cracked when pushing the on/off button. My guess there was something stuck between the button and the screen. Since the screen can't handle any pressure from the side it made a nice clean crack right across the screen.
I had it replaced at the local phone repairshop for €219,-. Luckily my home insurance covered it. The store owner insured my the screen was original as the 8 Sirocco is so rare that there aren't any non-original screens around. I kinda want to believe him, but i'm not sure...
Anyways, my double tap to wake function isn't working any more after the repair. I used several sensor apps to see if one wasn't working properly anymore, but as far as i can see they are all in working order. I hoped that a factory reset would fix it, maybe a re-calibration of some sort, but it didn't...
Does anybody know how double tap to wake works? Is it embedded in the screen, is it via software? Maybe they installed a non-original screen that doesn't support this function? If i know how this function works then maybe i can track down the problem...
Any help would be great!

Is the always on display working?
Double tap to wake can work differently between handsets. The digitizer is kept on in a low power mode on devices that properly support DT2W, whereas most phones can implement a software version of it where the digitizer pretty much stays fully powered on, at all times. That drains battery, hardware support pretty much doesn't.
The Sirocco has proper hardware support, so I think it has to be digitizer DT2W support. Unfortunately that means possibly a dodgy screen. Did it work with the broken screen?
You can buy Sirocco replacement screens from China/Asia on Ebay for around £130. There may well be unbranded goods circling. I have a feeling you might need to return to the store and point out DT2W isn't working and it's likely digitizer related.
You are on Pie, correct?

Yes, i'm on Pie. I think they screwed me over with a dodgy screen indeed. A little search on google revealed you can buy them for €20,-.
It did work with the broken screen, so it has to be a dodgy digitizer. Thinking about calling the shop and see what their response is.

So, i just called them and they basically told me to go [email protected]%# myself... Warranty was only for the screen itself, and with that they mean cracks in the screen. Great service! Kinda bummed out, but it's only tap 2 wake, right? Installed WaveUp, which basically does the same, you just have to wave in front of the proximity switch. Will test if it drains the battery if not, that's kinda good for me...

Unfortunately Android kills the service, even when persistent notification is on. Ah well, will search for someting else...

The digitizer is part of the screen, it's not possible to replace the screen without replacing it.
They've put in a faulty screen. I'd contact your insurance provider and tell them the repair shop they've paid hasn't fixed the phone correctly.
edit: I might actually be wrong with the Sirocco. The LCD and Glass seem to be bonded, but the digitizer can be replaced separately. Either way, the phone hasn't actually been repaired fully, so I'd still contact your insurer.

Thnx for the info, i now know how the double tap to wake works. Unfortunately the insurance company don't care about that. They payed me the standard sum, didn't even want the bill. I have to proof the phone didn't fall and they pay me €250,- and that's it.

Have you gone back to them to advise the repair shop didn't fix the phone properly and what advice they can give?
Not sure what legal suggestions I can make for your country, in the UK I guess you would next look to trading standards/small claims court.
250 euros is more than enough for the repair shop to fix the phone and digitizer.

It would probably be a long story if i would go to court or something. I actually don't mind. Got enough other troubles in my life! :silly:

I can confirm I have the same issue on a Nokia 8 (not Sirocco) after screen replacement. I had the issue with the left half of the screen staying static all the time. The whole repair was a nightmare as the people who I bought the phone turned out to be cheap af. Whatever... I like the brand and the products but next will buy my phone from a reputable (comparebly big) store. Have a nice day!

Touch screen not responding after hard reset..hardware problem?

I have searched for solutions for the past 2 days but cant find one, if i missed it or this post is redundant , i apologize in advance.
Now my tilt is driving me crazy. It started last week when The touch screen wasnt working, but i fixed it by doing a couple of soft resets. then all the sudden, everytime i slide my keyboard out, the touch screen would stop responding. this went on for a day, then yesterday, when i tired to use the keyboard, the screen went blank, like the light died or something. but when i put it back on portrait, the screen would light up again.
A few moments later, the touch was responding, tried to use the keypad then the screen went blank..tried soft resets about 5 times and uninstalled all recent added programs (skyfire) ..finally the screen was working but the touch still wasnt working.
So this morning, i had the bright idea to do a hard reset....dumbest idea ever cos now its stuck at the screen where i have to "tap the screen to set up your wm device" and guess what..the touch screen isnt responding
plz i really need help with this. all so , i have a broken tilt.., well lcd screen is cracked...can i try to dismantle both tilts and replace the screens?
Ok, i used Code Factory's Remote screen alignment to bypass the alignment, but if i cant use the touch screen or the keyboard, the phone is pretty much useless for sending any information or making calls..is there a way to fix this?
I have had this same issue with my tilt. I could use the scroller on the left side of the unit to navigate but no touch screen. Both times that this has happened to me I removed the screen protector that I had on and restored a backup that I had on my storage card (I run a backup weekly). This has always fixed my issue. You could try another hard reset, not sure if that will help but do you get any lights on the keyboard when you slide it open? Is your tilt less than a year old because there is a manufacturer's warranty too.
Jim
when i slide the keyboard, i do get lights on the keyboard but not on the screen...it just goes dead..but when i slide it back in, the screen comes to life.
I cant do another hard reset cos i have to input the "1,2,3,4" code.
Also , the phone just got out of the 1yr warranty this month...awesome
I want to buy a replacement screen with a new digitizer but i need to be sure that is the problem.. ive searched for this keyboard problem but still have no answers
Now I'm having the same issue, touch not responding. I first noticed it about two days ago, when I slide the keyboard out, I could type just fine, but when I went to send the message the touch screen wouldnt work, so I'd close the keyboard and it would work. well yesterday it stopped working all together, so i used my d-pad and did a sprite restore and it started working again. But then On my way home i hit the lock button, and it stopped working after that, and I couldn't get it unlocked. I used the inner soft key to hit the first part of unlock, but then I couldnt ever figure which button to hit to get the on screen part of the unlock. So I had no choice but to do a hard reset, and just like highoct now I'm stuck on the stylus setup , and the touch still doesnt respond. does anybody esle have any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.
You can use the Code Factory's Remote screen alignment to bypass the alignment.
If the touch screen is the only problem, you can do one of two things if you are no longer under warranty;
1. Fix it yourself. You will have to buy a new Lcd screen with new digitizer at ebay and use this site http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_kaiser/ to open up your tilt and replace it
2. Send it to a repair shop, I had two tilts and sent the one with the broken screen to www.missionrepair.com got it back in a within a week, $89.00 plus shipping
here is the link : http://www.missionrepair.com/Mission_Repair_AT_T_Cell_Phone_Repairs_and_Upgrades_s/321.htm
I still have the same tilt with the original problem..havent found a solution yet
Oh yeah, I did manage to do a hard reset again, but now the screen is just white. I can hear the sound of it booting up but it still has a white screen. I tired going to the Bootloader screen ( Camera and power at the same time)...still have the white screen. I believe its a hardware problem but i don't know what it is...any ideas?
Ok now I've done a hard flash, using the same HTC kaiser rom 6.1 and it fixes the problem for a little bit, until the first time I slide out the keyboard , then the screen stops working again, any suggestions ?
iPhone 3G Screen Repair...finally an affordable answer
If you are reading this, you are most likely in the same dilemma I was in. I dropped my phone and picked it up only to find out that the glass screen was cracked. I took my broken phone to apple and found out it would cost me $199. I then was told about iPhone 3G Screen Repair. They offered the iPhone 3G glass screen repair for only 69.99. They repaired my phone the same day they received it. I was very happy with the repair!

I know this thread is a bit old but was searching d forum for possible solutions cos yesterday i developed the same exact problem on my kaiser for no apparent reason!..flashing it hasnt helped and now im stuck on the wm setup screen..when u say u still have the same tilt with the original problem do you mean that the repair was unsuccessful? have you tried reparing it yourself? Thanks
I just started to have the same problem, it started out with the touch not responding (which a few soft resets fixed) and now the whole screen doesn't function unless i slid out the keyboard or if i jiggle it around and open it a couple of time i can usually find a spot that allows the screen to function with the keyboard closed. If i leave it in this position for about an hour the touch starts responding again, wtf. This is very inconvenient because as soon as you move the screen even just a little it will take me like half an hour to find the position which allows the phone to function.

same thing happened to me 3 days ago. touchscreen has just stopped responding.
it still worked when i slided my keyboard out, but only when it was out. then i realized it won't work at all (!) after soft reset. however, i could make it work again like that when i did the soft reset with the keyboard out. weird.
i tried searching, and decided to make a hard reset, flash a new rom, etc, etc., but no more touchscreen. at all. the device doesn't feel any touch in any case. nothing. i bypassed the beggining tap here with the storage card trick. (i've read it somewhere on the forum).
now i can only use my kaiser with the hw buttons, the keyboard, and that's it. no touch. really weird. please if anyone has any updates, solutions, anything, post. sniff sniff
mine doesn't have anything on the screen unless i slide it out, if i have it closed anymore, it just doesn't work at all.
try this:
ive just replaced my barely functioning lcd by myself, after living with it sometimes registered the stylus jumping around when i used the stylus. but before you change your lcd, here is a couple of tips for you guys:
1) try sliding out the keyboard. hold one finger in the middle of the keyboard and another on the back side of the phone, and squeeze hard, but careful. it might be that the flat cable between the screen part and the main part has loosened a bit from its socket, this could help it back in.
2) try sqeezing the hang up button hard. this might help the lcd-cable correctly back in its socket if it is loose.
im saying that this MIGHT help, if youre lucky. most likely you have to open the phone and squeeze the connectors back in yourself, or actually change the entire lcd. anyways, let me know what works for you!!

well, i tried both tips, but they didn't work. i'd like to say a big thanks anyway!
then i grabbed the kaiser service manual and took my device apart into pieces. i reconnected pretty much all the cables and stuff, but still no touchy. any further ideas?

[Q] Replaced Nexus One screen, now the screen won't turn on

Ok, so I broke the screen on my Nexus One. These things happens. I ordered a replacement screen, and thanks to numerous online guides, I (thought I had) replaced the screen.
Now, I guess that some other parts of the phone might have become damaged, but I doubt it. The phone seems to work. The touch buttons light up. The unlock gesture gives a slight vibrate. So does the volume rocker when I (seems to) reach the top/bottom of the scale.
But the screen itself doesn't show any response. No backlight (should I be able to see that). Nothing. What could I possibly be missing, I've gone over everything three times, but can't see nothing wrong. I've checked all the connectors everywhere. Somehow I get the feeling I'm missing something obvious....
Are you sure you bought an amoled screen replacement and not the slcd screen? That would cause such an issue.
Or maybe he needs an SLCD screen and not amoled..
I was going to ask if your wifi and bluetooth still work but i suppose you cant really test that yet...
I replaced my digitizer last week and now the phone works fine apart from the Wifi, Bluetooth and the charging pins for the dock at the bottom. LAME!
Maybe two Months ago I replace the full Housing on my phone is no easy task but not too difficult either. Check if you didn't ripped any of the flex cables and if the cables are connected properly. I have a long history of replacing housings and my best advice is to do again make sure you have time.
Exactly the same issue. Did you find a solutions?
I too had a broken screen. So, I ordered one from ebay and replaced it.
Now, it screen does not turn on though the icons at the bottom of screen switch-on.
I can here the sound when volume rocker is pressed.
Also, I believe that the touch is also working as I can hear the unlock sound when I swipe my finger across the screen.
Did you find a solution to the problem? Did I make some mistake or the screen is faulty?

Just months after the Nexus One was released, Google announced that the AMOLED Company "Brightstar" fell short of displays and was unable to produce more displays for HTC, so they decided to move to Sony to make the displays, To determine whether a phone has the AMOLED or SLCD display, The internal sticker on the back side of the screen assembly can be examined; part number 60H00443-03P indicates SLCD and part number 60H00287-00P indicates AMOLED, and as i mentioned, the AMOLED screens are gone so finding a replacement for that model would be merely impossible. I was looking around and thought that i may of found a fix to this, see, the HBOOTs on the devices are both the same except the top code of the screen that determines the screen type, if you were to flash the SLCD HBOOT, you might be able to retrieve a working screen, well its probably worth the gamble anyway since you probably are not going to find a replacement in a while.
EDIT: And after moments of posting, i found a AMOLED screen seller that will ship to Europe! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LCD-Scree...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4d06825672

Top of the touch screen not responding sometimes

Hi, I have the phone for a month now, its 4 months old. This problem is on since I bought it.
When I try to slide notifications roll-down panel from the top, it is sometimes almost impossible to do. When I do it with whole thumb, it goes down normally, but when I try with other smaller fingers, it wont respond. Also in chrome, I have problems editing www address bar, because it just wont respond to touch. It responds immediately when the phone is in vertical position and I tap there with my thumb.
Since rest of the screen works fine and that particular area works well in certain conditions, I am wondering, if there is some kind of calibration app or setting for digitizer. Phone has not been dropped down, nor it has scratches or anything on display. I have screen protector and so I assume it can be somehow related to it. I have almost simillar issue with old HTC Touch Pro years back, but there was an option to calibrate touch screen with stylus. So I am just wondering, if someone can advise something to do. I really dont feel like waiting 30 days solving it by dealer.
Nexus 7 responds way better on the edges than my One. Also, bottom edge and sides are working fine.
As I am trying to do this over and over I have noticed, that when I click digitizer in chrome on text in adderss bar, there is no respond, but when I click just a bit above the text, it responds with any of my fingers, So it seems like its moved up or something (if you know what I mean, I can not really explain this any better

Not normal, I woudn't bother caliberating it. Just return it to the store, or try warranty via the htc website.
In my case htc always came to my place to get the phone, and they always brought it back after a week or so.

Problem is, that in my country, there is no official service center, thus it has to be sent to our neighbor, and because of that, it takes forever to work it out. I could live with that, if there is no self-help, but I was just wondering whether there is some app or setting or not.

[Q] Home button doesn't work, back and menu works

I recently replaced touch screen of my mi3. Everything was working fine. Then recently home button stopped working, it lights up but nothing happens when I press it, no action, no vibration. Other two, menu and back buttons are working fine.
First assuming it was because of latest update, I got into recovery and did full wipe, installed older version I had, and problem persists. Then I noticed home button is not workin even in recovery mode, while other to works.
It must be hardware problem right? it is strange, because home button was working after replacement, then suddenly hardware problem.
or something related to software even system format (yes I formatted both sysem) can't affect is afoot?
Where should I look into if I try to repair it myself (I am located so remote, getting service is out of the question)
In worst case, what app let me set long press menu button to home.
I am using gmd gesture control for the time being. But I don't want another something running in the background all the time. And it is hard to come up with some gesture that wouldn't get in the way while playing etc.
Any idea, thanks

Does screen turn on?
Dragon-tt this is where I bought replacement. You can replace it yourself, but you know my issue.
Around 80$ with shipping.
You might find it cheaper if you look around, but make sure the dealer is reliable.
New mi3 is now 239$ btw.
In case anyone is interested, there is an app called button remapper, but didn't work for me.
I did it by editing key binding file in root/system/usr/keylayout. Not gonna meddle with hardware without knowing what I am doing.
Guess I will just learn to live with 2 capacitive button.
The screen turns on when i press the lock button on the side.

As was mine, you should replace the screen, suggest you buy LCD with digitizer. No other way than to replace it.
Mi3 touch screen
If you go to xiaomi plaza, you can find the Original Xiaomi 3 Touch Screen +LCD Screen Display, and free shipping, the price is just $ 43.

Question Turn the phone on without side buttons? (Buttons stopped working)

So a few months back all three side buttons stopped working on my 5a -- juuuuust out of warranty period. I found apps to adjust the volume and to turn the screen off, so it wasn't really an issue, the phone otherwise works perfectly fine... until my battery died overnight. Now the phone will charge up to full and display its level of charge, but I cannot figure out how to turn the phone on without use of the side buttons.
I tried charging it to full, I tried plugging it into my PC, and I took it to Ibreakufix, which is a Google authorized repair facility and no one knew a way to turn it on. In fact they didn't really believe me that the phone works and insisted it was a separate issue bricking the device. They want to charge me $175 to replace the side button panel and see if that works, but a used 5a is about that price anway.
I found a thread somewhere saying that you can turn on the phone with ADB if the phone has USB debugging enabled, but of course this is the first phone I've had in a decade that I didn't actually have that turned on.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas you guys have. Seems a shame that this otherwise perfectly good phone is inaccessible just because I can't use the power button.

Well if it's the mobo you're boned. Unless dropped or flexed mobo's shouldn't just fail.
Since it's a moving part the switch be the prime suspect or a loose connector unless there are other known issues with this model.

Ok, might order the switch online, I found a part.
Still so frustrating because I know it's a functioning phone that I just can't turn on. I used it for months without use of the side buttons, I just never let the battery deplete until now
If anyone knows a way to turn it on without use of the buttons I'm all ears
