[Question]Razer 2 pie stock firmware - Razer Phone 2 Questions & Answers

Can anyone comment full pie firmware for Razer 2

Let's see what the system says...

there's no pie firmware yet ?

This brings up a good point though. For all their marketing about this being a flagship phone, they released with a version of Android that launched 08/21/2017, and we are still not updated with a version released almost a year ago. We should be hitting Razer's social media with this as our silence tells them that we are content with Samsung-esque update cycles.

Accidental double post

this is the response I got from them about the release date, Like the last paragraph....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Thomas,
Great day! Thank you for contacting Razer support. This is regarding your concern about the availability of Android Pie for Razer phones. Razer is committed to supporting the latest versions of Android and we are working on releasing Android P for the Razer Phone. We do not have a defined release date yet and the dates may vary based on your region and mobile provider. To ensure you get the release as soon as it is available, please be sure your Razer Phone always has the latest software updates installed via OTA.
We don't suggest to download the android P from a computer to your Razer phone as it will automatically void the limited warranty of the phone and may cause some apps to work as it should be.

no official announcement that i know of promised a stable N before years end,
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/closed-nougat-stable-update-for-oneplus-3.480526/
in a recent reply to someone on the OB9 though it was mentioned that another release (most probably beta) will be released before new years, so, that's why i said next is OB10 and it's most probably gonna be for OP3 and OP3T , before unifying the update cycles for both by the stable release, probably early January 2017

if all the issues were ironed out, all of us would like to see an N stable, but this is a development program, push backs are common, and they announce such things on the OP Community Forums, so far i haven't read that there.
they might release a stable before new years, the current beta 9 is solid, i use it as daily driver, all i'm saying that official on their website there's nothing yet to suggest so, specially that OP is known to tease such things ahead of it's release...as i said we all want to see it, my comments is regarding their official status.
I am not so sure that the official Nougat will be available by the year end. But it is possible to get another CB of N with some bug fixes. I tried OB9 and its rock solid.( Only thing is I don't like the accent colours that much ) Oneplus might play it safe by releasing official ota after all bug fixing is done.

Well, here we are and no sign of it yet!
I remember going through this a few years back with a Motorola phone, I used to keep hearing that these updates were "imminent," or likely to "roll out," in various places, at various dates.
If my memory serves me well, it never happened and I got bored with checking..
I'll be chuffed if it does happen before the end of today, but I've already checked and zip!

Software Support for OP3/3T: Questions & Answers.

Recently, we noticed lots of OP3/3T users asking questions related to future software support for their devices. To better keep everyone in the loop, we invited @oliver Z. , our Head of Product to answer some of the most commonly asked questions from the community.
David: Hi Oliver. First, could you please explain why many more updates were released for the OP5 than the OP3/3T in recent times?
Oliver: Sure, we have been gathering plenty of user feedback on the OP5 following the launch in mid-June. We dedicated our efforts in the first 1-2 months after release to better satisfy users’ needs and boost our latest product’s capabilities.
Normally, we release a new Official Release (OTA) update every 1-2 months. If you’d like to taste some of the latest OxygenOS features earlier, and receive updates more frequently, you’re more than welcome to join our Open Beta Program. Currently, we release Open Beta updates for the OP3/3T approximately once every month.
David: Some users asked why some new features, which are available through the Open Beta Program, are not implemented in the stable build releases on the OP3/3T?
Oliver: We’ve always positioned the Beta Program as a public laboratory for new features, feedback, and bug testing. This helps us improve the code of all of our MP builds. We unfortunately, cannot guarantee every feature present in the Open Betas will transition to the Official releases. Often times, even though the feature seems stable enough in the Beta builds, they are not ready or do not meet our quality standards for public release. (And yes, sometimes we test the value of upcoming features through the Open Beta Program for release in new or upcoming devices or later software updates.) In some situations, our limited development and QT resources force us to bring these features to one device first. These features are then introduced on other older devices further down the road. We love how the program has grown, but we do have to admit that we still have room to improve and better optimize the Open Beta Program.
Also, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our users who have joined either our Closed Beta Program or our Open Beta Program. You have all helped us shape the functionalities and quality of OxygenOS.
David: What are you planning with regards to security updates for the OP3/3T?
Oliver: In keeping with the original schedule, we planned to update OxygenOS on the OP3/3T to version 4.5, with the latest security patch level update, in the next 1-2 months. However, some feedback from the community caught our attention and we decided to tweak it a little bit. We’ll split the update into two parts. First, we’ll update the security patch level to August, which will be released soon. The OxygenOS 4.5 update will be released at the scheduled time.
David: So the OP3/3T will soon catch up with the current version on the OP5, but some features on the OP5 will not be available on the OP3/3T, right?
Oliver: Yes, those missing features are mainly a result of hardware differences, such as the availability of Reading Mode on the OP5, which depends on the RGB sensor. The OP3/3T don’t have that hardware interface, so we are unable to release this feature on these two devices. The same reason applies to the new off-screen gestures and DCI-P3 screen calibration.
David: My last question is very important to OP3/3T users. How long will the OP3/3T continue to receive software support?
Oliver: Android O is going to be the last Android version update we’ll release for OP3/3T. We’ll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates. After the OP3/3T have been updated to Android O, we’ll start moving the Open Beta Program from OP3/3T to OP5.
Alright that's all I wanted to ask. Did you find answers to all of your questions? If not, leave your questions in the comments below and we’ll get back to you soon. Thank you all and enjoy the upcoming weekend!
Yours,
David
Friends I am sharing this just FYI that OP3/3T support is going to receive O and few updates after that and then the open beta program will move to OP5 and slowly the support for OP3/3T will end as usual with older models.

Not sure what you really expected. This has been the companies MO since day one. If you thought it would be different then no one is at fault other then you. Do the needed research and you will be fine. Also just a news flash but the every device is old by the time you get it. Heck unless you compile the OS your selfe then your software is outdated as well.

I did not understand what exactly you would like to convey.
You mean that , OP no exception , compare to any other organization? If you agree that ..all other companies respect thire flagship devices at most recent, even though they release different flagships in a year.
And other vendors are not able to provide software update very frequently due to various reasons ex. Hadware compatibility, upcoming model in the same price...etc. Here they did not annouce anything from company for flagships.
OP had releases flagship devices and no support get from company? Strange...[emoji15][emoji24]

When O comes out the device will be about 18 months old. The same cut off point that other flagships offer. Some flagships never even see an update.
What I mean to convey is simple. If you are worried about updates then the only way to be sure is to get a device that you can build the OS for yourself. Most devices (even Flagships) come with outdated kernels and to be up to date you would have to flash every single day and sometimes a few times a day.

Actually you get a damm lot support. Look how many updates there have been. Samsung still runs 7.0 if you have a Huawei you get 6 updates spreaded around 2 years, those updates contain minor bug fixes nothing special at all. And so on. You paid €400 for a phone and expect everything!
People complain at anything, Every device is supported for 24 months or less.. in most cases 18 or less Be glad it's getting O and not the sh!t show OP2 was.. But I give credit where it's due to OP my OP3 has had way more updates and fixes than my S7 Edge and that costs twice the price.. and still running outdated sh!tty 7.0.. So all isn't bad as long as OP keeps their devices up to date and fast with source code I can see them being the device to go to for Modding as such

The device did not get 3 major android versions as that would mean it came out with 5.0 but it came out with 6.0 even though 7.1 had been out when it was released.
Either way. The device should be ok for unofficial updates for atleast another year or 2 before the lack of updated kernel source will make the updates less.

Read my post. I said we got or will get 3 versions.
Marshmallow, nougat und the new O. So 3 versions. And thats pretty decent.
Besides that its an ex flagship, so we will enjoy good custom rom support.
Even my old Htc One S (jellybean latest official update) recently got nougat ressurrection remix which is working flawlessly.

I wouldn't call it a flagship but close enough.
It shipped with 6.0 when it should have shipped with 7.0 at least. So I don't count that at all.

Totally agree. The OS the phone comes with out of the box is never counted as an update. :highfive:
If we get Android O, that will be our 2nd major OS update.
I agree with others that we've definitely had better support than Samsung Flagships in the past year.
Support has been great. Look how much updates we got, next to that how many of them where useful? Alot! We got alot better support then Samsung and Huawei at least. If they bring us a proper and stable Android 8.0 I am completely fine with it! Keep in mind this only is a €399/429 phone .

T-mobile Note 9 Pie Update Status

As the title suggests, I'm on the T-mobile Note 9. I was looking around online for a Pie update and found this page. I thought I'd share for those who hadn't seen it.
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-39346
Apparently, there are three different statuses: Development, Testing and Complete.
As of yesterday, the Note 9 was still in Development. Today, it is in the Testing mode. Lets hope we're getting pretty close to the release!
EDIT 3/2/2019
According to the above link, the device is still in TESTING. In this document, Android 9 Pie HAS BEEN released as of 3/1/2019, but only to a limited audience. Not sure if this is a test group or what's going on.
EDIT 3/3/2019
Hi everyone. Please keep this on topic. The reason I made this thread is to provide a reference (T-mobile users) on the status of the update. If you need assistance getting back on the OTA track, please create your own topic. Furthermore, this thread is meant for users on the T-mobile SM-N960U, "probably not" the SM-N960U1 , which I know nothing about. Thanks!
EDIT: 3/4/2019
According to the document I originally posted, the phase of the update has now changed to COMPLETE. Hopefully, I'll have it by the end of the week, but we shall see how long actual deployment takes. The document provided in the 3/2/2019 update of this thread does not detail any further updates past 3/1/2019.
I just checked for updates. A security level patch level February 1, 2019 is now downloading. Size 1867.41 MB. Versions: N960USQU1CSB3 / N960UOYN1CSB3.
EDIT: 3/5/2019
I'm now on Android Version 9 / N960USQU1CSB3.
First Impression: I do not like the fact that the time clock is moved to the left side. They should've kept it where it was. I'll be looking for a way to change it.
I'm hoping it comes out next week. Att already has it, so I dont know what's taking them soo long to release it for tmobile
My wife's S9+ got the update today from TMobile. I'm surprised that S9+ got it first before Note 9.
Today it shows its moved to testing, hoping to get it soon now.

Been like that all week.
My guess you won't see any updated to the Note 9 till long after the S10 is in stores. T-mobile is a crap company and this is how they do business. They will hold the update till we have had many weeks to look at the S10. T-mobile want you to spend the money on the upgrade. It's the 25th of February this update has been available on unlocked devices for nearly a month. AT&T has had it on their Note 9 for a few weeks already.

If any part of what you said was even remotely true, then they wouldn't have pushed the update to their S9/+. Note 9 owners aren't the target audience for the S10/+
Imo keep Oreo untill the next Pie update at least. It has bugs and if you just got the device there may be things you want but aren't on Pie.
Updates are fine but OS version changes I let others be the guinea pigs...

Assuming similar as the U1 update not dropping until March as well
This is depressing
However, I did update mine manually using the OTA that is posted. Could wait for T-Mobile.
Went fairly smooth. Couple minor issues, one with Google Home. Home would crashed every time I opened it. In the end, a factory reset brought everything in line.
I would recommend this upgrade to anyone and I would also recommend just side-loading it like I did.

Ugly can be changed with a theme but then again ugly is subjective.
As far as speed .. it actually behaves faster on my 9 then Android 8.x did. Not sure what you are running on yours that would slow it down so much.
Been on Pie now for a week. Love it. Better battery life, faster in almost every aspect. Didn't wanna wait for TMO to push it so went the firmware science route.
Haven't experienced any issues that have been reported, quite the opposite for me. I personally prefer pie over Oreo, but that's just me. Now if only, they fix the Swift installer app to work with Pie (unrooted) now.
Saw this on Droid Life just now...

I'm on CSAA will it be able to OTA to the least tmobile on release?
I am currently on Tmobile with the version N960U1UEU1ARL1, would i have to wipe my device if I download the update manually? In any case, I can't seem to find my version on the Firmware Science form so do i just have to wait for the unlocked version of the update or am I eligible for TMOBILE's
I am confused, on the official T-Mobile update page, it lists N960U1UEU1CSB3 as the build number for the update. I thought N960U1UE specifies it's for the unlocked N960U1, where as carrier builds for the N960U are N960USQ?

P20 Pro OTA System Update Log UK

Yesterday received first update since January's upgrade to Pie. Sadly it just brings the security level from December 2018 to April 2019, version being 9.0.0.255 i.e not 9.1. Not only do we have Huawei's arrangement with UK network operators delaying updates, we now have Google under orders from the Trump adding another potential maybe permanent delay. If forum administrator agrees, perhaps this topic can remain open as an ongoing record.
[Huawei P20 Pro CLT-L09 9.0.0.255 (C782)]
[Google Play Services 17.4.55 (100408-248795830)] [SIM-free from Carphone Warehouse / O2 branded via GiffGaff]
Nothing on my o2. Such a shame that this device is not supported like some other brands.

Not really. That thread is not country specific; note I specified "UK" in the topic header. My experience to date is knowing when updates are being pushed in other countries or regions doesn't help much with regard to the UK owing to the special arrangement between Huawei and UK mobile network operators. While one Swallow does not make a Summer, it's helpful to know when a new update is released by one of the UK networks.
I had no updates from o2 since December. Plugged a Vodafone sim in and 255 arrived immediately.

Interesting! As you were just over three weeks behind my GiffGaff/O2 255 update you _might_ have received 255 via O2 had you waited a little longer (my previous update to 168 and December security patch was in January). That being said, perhaps switching sims puts you to the head of the staggered update queue of the changed network provider.

Are you staying with Vodafone or switching back to O2?
It’s my daughters sim, so can test again another time. To be honest, I have been using an iPhone XS and when I occasionally test the p20 pro again, the indoor photos are washed out and dark compared to the iPhone.

Let's just thank to the Huawei employee who is sharing this with us! Loool
3.1 received OTA in the early hours of this morning.
[Huawei P20 Pro CLT-L09 9.1.0.311 (C782)]
[Google Play Services 18.4.53 (100408-260559365)] [SIM-free from Carphone Warehouse / O2 branded via GiffGaff]
Brief observations :
Just under 4.5GB so long download.
During post-install restart the initial Huawei logo screen displayed for a very long time (several minutes) so don't panic!
Noticeable improvement in responsiveness although how long that will last remains to be seen.
Lastly, security patch level is July.
Why do they write about GPU turbo. Version C782 does not receive it
Nothing from o2 yet

From some very brief research I believe the only way of telling if GPU Turbo is installed is by the improved responsiveness when running a game that can use it. I am not a 'gamer' so have no way of testing that. What makes you believe the update package content information is incorrect?

Is there any easy way to upgrade to 9.1 manually on a non-rooted UK dual SIM ? In the past Ive updated using Firmware Finder and VPN changes. does this still work ?

Which version have you updated to ?
311 rolled out to me followed by a small patch. Much smoother now. Pleased about the improvements so far.
EE rolled out 9.1.0.311 to my C782 a few weeks back.
The battery is now on par with my old iPhone 6s. They haven't rolled the patch out yet.

Question No December update, nor January. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I usually receive my updates around the 5th of the month. November 2022 was my last update. The phone was bought direct from Google unlocked. I use it on Consumer Cellular (AT&T). I've called google support and posted the issue on their community forum. Support said to factory reset but admitted they have no idea of what's going on. My post was locked in the community forum.
I saw on the XDA Pixel 5 forum that there was some issue with the releases but its not confirmed by Google.
I'm more concerned over security patches than bug fixes. My phone is working fine.
hi.
i bought my 5a, like you, from Google and unlocked.
i use it in Argentina.
i never received any communication about updates but i allways get my monthly update looking for it in:
config-system-system updates
try that way
right now i have all the updates, the last is January 5
I also am stuck on Nov 5 with a phone bought direct from Google. I am on Mint (T-Mobile MVNO).
Manually re-checking in system - system updates - check for updates reports that it is up to date.

Yes, I too look for my monthly updates in the path you describe. At least twice per day.

Yep, same here. Just checked and says I'm up to date with the November update.
i don´t know how your cell companies work with google, but i knew that in other brands of phones there were different kind of updates, direct for the unlocked phones, with the cell companies attempt to intercept those updates to modify it, perhaps something has changed after November update giving them the control.
my cell company does not interfere.
did you ask the operators?

I'm still on December 5th security update and November 1st Google Play system update on my Pixel 7
Like others, I bought my Pixel 5 unlocked, direct from Google.
The last update I received was November 2022. Typically, on the 5th of the month or so, I could pop into settings and check for update and it would be there.
I saw reports on several sites of an issue with the Dec update on 5 and 5a phones - some getting bricked - and so I didn't so much mind never getting that update. BUT, this was a pricey phone, and I buy from Google specifically to get 3 years of monthly security (and feature) updates.
Google NEEDS to provide some manner of explanation. If they would just state that there's an issue and they are working to address it, just that acknowledgement would be appreciated.

Yes, I have the same problem, no update on my 5a since Nov 5th.
Googles lame "support" function can be reliably counted on to punt with a factory reset recommendation whenever they don't know the answer. The next suggestion will be to exchange the phone under warranty. Of course, if it is no longer under warranty then you are SOL
Has Google head Sundar Pichai laid off the help to save some $$?
Both of my Pixel 5As on Google Fi never updated beyond November. I finally gave up and sideloaded the January OTA on mine. My wife is still stuck on November on hers.

Can you give more info here? Is there a way to safely download and apply the update or does it involve a reset and firmware install?
I went through the google support chat and ended with them pointing me to https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/carrier_selection to "manually install the system update". I haven't pursued it yet, because it talks about doing a backup and restore and I'm not looking forward to that...
I'm not sure my app state will be preserved and it will be a hassle to go through other recovery processes for some of them.
I am a Linux user and relatively clueful about computers, but naive about Android. I think I'd be able to follow some ADB command steps, but I get put off by web discussions around Android that expect folks to download from sketchy looking file-share sites and blindly trust whatever is in them
FWIW, I tried to follow the support advice at the pixelrepair carrier selection link above. After wiping and reinstalling my phone using the appropriate "USA Others" carrier choice, it left me with the exact same TP1A.221105.002 build number I had before and the same problem of showing up to date with Nov 5.
So a big waste of time and the incomplete backup/restore I expected means I get to piece back together a number of extra app accounts etc...
Edit: the next support reply just says something similar to what others said above...
Thanks for trying the steps. Our most recent Pixel update will be deployed at a later date for a small subset of Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a (5G) users. We are currently re-evaluating the build before distribution to this group.

I haven't noticed any new issues. The Bluetooth connections to my Garmin watch and Dexcom CGM are still a little flakey sometimes, but they have been since the upgrade to Android 13, so nothing new there.
I figured Google would have pulled the OTA images off the official website if there was a big enough problem.
There have been reports of the OTA causing the black screen death, but I thinks it's just coincidental and the phone was going to die anyway. I decided I might as well get the repair/replacement over now before they end the extended warranty for it.
FWIW, mine got an update today and so went straight from Nov to Feb 5 patch level.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked and my 5a is now preparing for system update.
You can ADB sideload updates, even on a locked bootloader, without wiping your device. If this ever happens again and you're months behind on the update, just sideload it rather than being at the mercy for Google to actually push out the update to your phone. Instructions: https://developers.google.com/android/ota

Yes, that's always an option, however, there was enough internet chatter about it being deliberately withheld, or causing issues with phones that I was reluctant to take that path.
Google's silence on these topics doesn't help.
It seems to be happening again in March - the phone does not find an update either manually or automatically. There are March images, Factory and Full OTA, available on Google's site though. I'm wondering if there is a reason to not install the update with Fastboot. This is all very odd.
