Am I the only one that doesn't appreciate some noisy bugger popping up to ask me questions? Feels like having microsoft clippy on your phone.

There is a way. Just install the google assistant launcher application from the link below and that's all.

I chose to map a single press using a Bixby Quick Command. It's setup like this: What you say to Bixby "Google Assistant", What Bixby does "open assistant". It seems to work just fine.

I haven't received the update yet on my Note 9. Even went into the Galaxy Store and no updates are found.

I have the tmobile note 9 on oreo 8.1. I went to galaxy store and did the updates then pressed the Bixby button to open the app. Then pressed the three dots then pressed settings and picked what I wanted the button to do.

Yay....

Still haven't gotten the update. Note 9 Pie AT&T

Yippy, finally a progressive Update from Samsung! ?

In my case I want to map out for Discover but the issue is the same.

update is there in galaxy apps

Check the Galaxy Store application. Go into it's settings and enable notifications for app updates and also look at your "My Page" and you will see the "Update" section which will list all of your pre-installed Samsung apps that have available updates. The "All" section is all of your apps installed from the Galaxy Store.

Mine opens regular Google app when I do that, but I downloaded a modified assistant shortcut listed on Reddit. Works perfectly. Thank mate

What?

Step in the right direction, but you are forced to enable the single press of the button (either to bixby or app action) and this is not good as it will lead to unwanted app/bixby launches.

Double tap power for camera.

Any way to get the screenshot with single press Bixby button. I tried but it gives me a voice command and when screenshot is taken you can see "take a screenshot " message on the top of the screenshot. Any workaround?

Hi,
Is there a way I can remap the Bixby Key to toggle b/w silent & loud on off screen?

[Q] Badge support for G-Mail (other than custom launcher)

Peace All...
Does the Note 8 NOT support native notification badges for G-mail anymore?
I've noticed that there is no G-Mail notification badge. Is anyone using the STOCK Samsung launcher notice this?
---Also, PLEASE, before you make suggestions-- I am aware of Nova Launcher and Telsa Unread and every other launcher that supports notification badges---at this point in time I do not wish to use any of those launchers, I want to give Samsung's Launcher a try. My question is for those still using TouchWiz if they notice the same thing or is it just my phone.
I am having the same issue right now. Also, trying to figure out what combination of settings will make the Notification LED go on without vibrating the phone in vibration mode when I get an email.
---------- Post added at 02:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:36 PM ----------
I read from an S8 thread that to try Rad Unread from the Play store. It works.
Now I have to figure out the LED/Vibrate issue for Gmail.
For some reason i cant download Rad Unread from play store. Maybe I have to side load it
*tried to side load it--won't install on my phone*

Interesting. I loaded it from the Play store on my laptop. It's been working well.
I think I either have an app or a theme that is blocking it---the only thing i can think of is bxActions (Bixby remap button)

Perhaps that is the case. I am running stock everything. I haven't gotten to Bixby yet... LOL So many options to check and configure, I can't get used to this after 2 years of IOS.

Bixby version 2.0, your thoughts?

Note 9 announced, so came Bixby along with it. This time it's version 2.0, out of the box. Samsung says it's now better at predicting user needs, processing natural languages and is quicker. You like it or you are going to remap it with a remapper or disable it forever? Or you want it to be dead already? Share your thoughts.
I'm too heavily invested in the Google assistant ecosystem. I liked how DJ Koh talked about how fragmented systems are because companies want to control, but results in a poor user experience, but then of course there's no way to disable bixby easily....not very open if you ask me.
I'll still test it out of interest.

Well, you can forget Bixby home, let only the "Bixby voice" to stay and to follow your commands, can disable both and 4get forever or can Remap with remapper.

Bixby seems to faster and context aware now (like Google Assistant), based on what I saw in Flossy Carter's unboxing and hands-on video (@8:02).

That could have been dope . Unfortunatrly, u will have to do that on your own for now.
Ill never use it, ill just disable it again like with my s8 plus
sent from my Exynos S9 plus, Pixel 2 XL or Note FE
I think I'll give it another shot. Only reason I had stopped using was because I'm invested in Google Assistant. At least that's what I thought until just now when I realized, the only thing I use Google Assistant for is a 30 minute timer for my lunch clock punches.
Plus there's just something weird about saying "Hi Bixby," out loud.

good to know that. Thanks!
I currently use it only for system control. My daily driver is Google.
I use Bixby all the time. Google Assistant is my reminder only use. Now that it remembers you are in a conversation and don't have to keep repeating the initial context I'll be using it even more.
I'm not seeing options to disable Bixby hardware button entirely in Note 9, unlike S9/S9+.
The settings and UI are different in Note 9 in comparison to S9/S9 plus, but no option of "do nothing" when you press the Bixby key in Bixby settings or Bixby voice settings.
**The unit I'm having is NOT a retail unit, it's a demo/review unit, with latest OTA flashed 2 days back with few enhancements and August security patch. The option to turn the Bixby hardware button into a totally "dead" button might show up in retail units.

Nope no "switch off" bixby buttons... very annoying And BX actions isn't working "yet". I gave Bixby a try for a couple of hours... it's a no go for me.

ButtonMapper doesn't work as well. But I would assume those apps might work in future once devs start working on it.
Update:
Checked a retail unit and Bixby settings are not different from the demo/review unit I had been using.
So, using bixby/phone settings one cannot turn the button completely off, for now. This is ugly and a step backwards from S9/S9+ IMO.

GUIDE: Note 9 Debloat & Customization "Beast Mode" *NO ROOT REQUIRED*

*Disclaimer*
Use these customization tools at your own risk! I'm not responsible for any damage that may happen to your phone.
I'm a big Samsung fan, but I'm not a fan of the animations/UI/bloatware that slows down my phone! So I'd like to share my "Beast Mode" Note 9! I've used these mods since the S8+ in 2017 and 2 days on the Note 9, on the S8+ I've installed OTA updates from my carrier with no issues since release but please proceed with caution per the disclaimer.

All these custom modifications require ADB and the latest Samsung USB Drivers.
How to enable USB debugging and disable Animations: On your Galaxy please go into Settings > About phone > Software information > Tab on Build number 10 times > Go back to main settings page and scroll to the very bottom > Developer options > Enable USB debugging > *OPTIONAL* Scroll down and disable Window animation, Transition animation, Animator duration scale
How to install ADB and setup ADB commands: https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/system-wide-access-to-fastboot-and-adb-tools/

Uninstalling Bloatware
You can completely remove bloatware from the system permanently using ADB commands. Package list from the Play Store will show all the installed apps/services on your phone for removal, linked below is a list of bloatware that are safe to remove and you can remove the remainder using Package List (CAUTION: Uninstalling some apps/services may cause force closes and unresponsive apps).

Hiding the Status and Navigation Bar, disabling the Navigation Bar and enabling iPhone X Gestures
You can enjoy your beautiful display without worrying about burn-in from the Status Bar and Navigation by hiding them through enabling Immersive Mode with ADB, after enabling this you'll just have to swipe from the top or bottom of the screen to display the hidden Status/Nav bar. If you want to install a custom bottom bar navigation gesture like the iPhone X, it can be annoying seeing the (hidden)stock Navigation bar everytime you swipe up, luckily these Gesture apps also have the feature to completely disable the stock Navigation bar so it will never appear. I've tested many Gesture Apps and there are 2 that I recommend.
Hiding the Status/Navigation Bar: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...re-screen-real-estate-no-root-needed-0177297/
Gesture Controls app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.conena.navigation.gesture.control&hl=en_US
Navigation Gestures app: https://www.xda-developers.com/navigation-gestures-iphone-x-app-xda/

Samsung Gestures and Updated Recent Apps look aka "Samsung Android P"
Samsung uses the Edge screen for navigation gestures instead of the bottom, also they have updated the recent apps to look more like Android P. Linked is a Youtube video that showcases these "Samsung Android P" features, but do not download them using the links in the Youtube description. The links in the Youtube description are outdated versions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q38DoGTX4M
How to download: You can download these in the Galaxy Apps store. Search "One Hand Operation +" and "Good Lock 2018".

Enjoy!
noob question here , can that flipboard app be removed using this method? I didn't seem to find it in the lists of safe to remove apps. I also could have missed it. if I understand it right , by using this process I can remove any app without having to have root , or "tripping knox" .

Yes, the flipboard app can be removed as well as other apps. The worst thing that will happen if something does get removed and it was necessary for another app/service to function, it will force closes and your device may become unresponsive. A factory reset or hard factory reset will resolve any errors.
Keen to try this
Thanks very much for sharing these. Immersive mode all the way, YEAH!
I'm about to try this. Just one question, besides the speed of your phone, has this helped with the battery life at all?

Just ordered my first Samsung device. I have used Nexus and pixel for so many years. Just decided to switch it up completely. Doesn't look like US version is rootable so I'll try this to debloat. Do I need to run for each individual app? Or is there a way to batch uninstall the bloat? Thanks
Individual apps through cmd on your PC or you can purchase the package disabler from the play store (which I don't really know why you would whereas you can do it on the pc) that is complicated to use

Yes, that's normal, because this method doesn't delete apps. It just hides them(the ones that you can't disable) from the system. You can't just remove system apps without root.

I use an app called granular for this, which also lets you set for all the apps too, which gets rid of the slight delay if you leave it with the samsung default.

Download an app called "package list" and use it to locate Samsung cloud and remove it with CMD. I've removed every Bixby related crap and it didn't break anything. If anything happens, you can always back up your phone to an sd card through smart switch then do a factory reset through recovery.

Thisis what i originally did on my Note 8 ( and then later Note 9.)
to get my car radio to launch Google Assistant as Bixby kept popping up.
I also have bxActions installed on my phone, but what i originally did, regarding my car radio (Google voice commands) is..
Device /Settings /Advanced settings /Device Assistant app/set to Google and next to Google press settings cog icon
and set voice.... Google Assistant.
So if i press and long press /hold my car phone button
Google Assistant answers.
(Same as home button on device (function) for me)
So take a look and see if it works for you.?

Bixby button not working as remapable button anymore

Hey folks, I had reddit on my remapable button for Bixby for single press and double press is Bixby, but something happened yesterday out of the blue and it is not working anymore and it launches Bixby on single press and its frozen. Tried to re do the whole process nothing got fixed, restarted the phone, nothing, I do not have any new software, I sont use games I dont use almost anything except Google stuff like calendar and keep, some things like viber, Skype, WhatsApp, a bibble, or scanner and reddit... so the idea is I should not have anything to break my phone in my eyes, but I just also remembered there were Samsung updates yesterday in the Samsung store, for the apps and Bixby was one of them, has any one had similar issues, and do you know a fix?
Nobody?
I got the update for Bixby & related applications. At first, the single click of bixby button did launch the bixby assistant. Then I went to settings & disabled>enabled it & it worked good again.

Yes, I use bxActions for that.

For me it works great. Action Shortpress is Display off and lang press Google Assistant.
After updating, I had to go through the Bixby setup the first time I hit the button but after that I'm back to normal on a single press.
