GSI roms - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hi
Did anyone tried GSI roms on the MI9?
Please share your experience if you did

Phh is working on treble support. As always with GSI's you'll probably have the best experiences with vanilla.
See his progress thus far here (he's making progress on indisplay fp): https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Xiaomi-Mi-9

Best experience with vanilla? What do you mean with vanilla? AOSP or something else?
Another question: so it would be possible to flash the GSI according to the method Phh is explaining in your link? Only the fingerprint sensor wouldnt work, right?

Finally I unlocked and flashed my FlokoROM, it's almost good for daily driver for me!
I need to fix BT in-call (by magisk patch) and rom's bug related to AOD, though.

If you need GApps on GSI, you should Repair/resize system partition in TWRP -> Wipe -> Advanced wipe and reboot recovery, mount system then flash latest OpenGApps.
I added fix for system-as-root device on OpenGApps yesterday, so you have to use 22 March or later build.

Great. Phh is also making good progress.
Honestly i'm probably not going to daily GSI myself. I'll await device tree bringup by someone and start building some roms then.
I sent you a PM a few days ago btw

Very nice, I wasn't expecting ROMs that soon.
Btw, is the fingerprint scanner working already? I know that phh fixed it but sources are not released yet?

Great! Do you intend on opening up an xda thread? Also will this rom be relatively stock, or will you aim to start adding features in?
Many thanks!

I'm so glad to see you here! I have tried the ROM. It works like a shot, the problem I see is that the fingerprint reader doesn't work and the quality of the camera is terrible. I installed the Gcam but it gives me FC. I will follow your work very closely.
Thank you! and lots of encouragement!

Sorry, was busy... I won't build non-GSI as GSI is good enough for me and somehow there were too many bugs happens only on non-GSI.

No, I won't open a thread. The rom is based on crDroid (based on LOS) so there are already plenty of features.

Hmm okay that's a shame to hear. Imo device specific roms would be better with the current state of GSI's/treble. They were never really intended for daily use and/or work perfectly on a single device. I'm hoping for someone else to step up soon and start working on device tree bringup.

work with mi9? how about camera

@AndroPlus whats differents between 21 march and 23 march builds?

Here is magisk path for BT in-call audio and tap to wake (force enabled):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JVQ-Qsw-Lzj4b7IiNlZEAocHvU5EYZTr/view?usp=sharing
This module also works on other GSIs. [EDIT] only on CAF based GSI such as LOS

Default camera (Snap) is not good, so you have to install Google Camera:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/Mi-9/themes/xiaomi-mi9-googlecam-port-t3910034
It works fine and I got clearer photo compared to Redmi Note 7 (GM1).

LineageOS 14.1 by karevn (unofficial)
Hey folks, since our beloved LOS 14 by Razziell was apparently discontinued because Razziell retired and took off all of his ROM Downloads, I went on 4pda and searched for alternatives.
With the help of Google Translate I was actually able to find this ROM by karevn, which is a direct fork of Razziell's version and since runs as stable as the old ROM.
DISCLAIMER: This is not my work by any means, I only discovered this ROM and thought it should be on xda too.
This ROM has some additional features ahead of Razziells version, most importantly OTA Updates!
Yes, It's true, this ROM will update automatically OTA when new versions are released, I could verify this myself.
Download:
I mirrored the Download on my Google Drive, since it is a little inconvenient to download from Yandex.Disk if you have no account there already.

Installation is not different to any other Custom ROM, just clean flash the downloaded ZIP via TWRP, then flash GAPPS (I recommend the Nano package)
[Detailed instructions for installation:]
Download ROM Zip to Internal Storage or microSD-Card
Boot to TWRP
Click Wipe --> Advanced Wipe and select Dalvik/ART-Cache, System, Data and Cache, donÄt select Internal Storage unless you want to wipe your documents, downloads etc.
Click the home-button and then select install
Select the downloaded Zip-File, then click 'Add more Zips' to select other, optional Zips like GAPPS, Magisk etc.
After Installation is finished do Dalvik Cache / Cache wipe
Reboot to System
Your Done!
At first I tried flashing this as kind of a continuous update from Razziells LOS 14.1, since it's using the same sources with little tweaks, which worked fine at first, but later showed problems in the form of repeating App Crashes of certain apps (mostly Google Apps) which didn't go away even after formatting /system and installing the ROM and GAPPS again, so I had to do a full clean flash unfortunately :crying:
I don't recommend trying the same as I did, since it turned out very unstable and not really usable. So simply do a clean flash and you're good to go!

Strange...
I flashed this rom over old one(0904 build+0910 bootimg), but mine is super stable...

I didn't experience that bug.
This ROM is near perfect (yet)
TFS.
Flashed it over 0904 Razziell build with pico gapps,
only cache & dalvik wiped.
works without hiccups.
kernel bit of downgrade in this build.
lack the frequency stages compare to Razziell 0910 LOS Kernel.
look the screenshots.
Just re-flashed 0910 kernel.
Seems normal. Will update if there is stange hiccups

Haven't seen this yet, but didn't experience it on the old Razziell ROM, so maybe this bug is kind of device specific... And I really don't care if it's present, so for me it doens't matter... But if I experience it on this ROM I will tell you...

Thanks, already flashed it and works fine!
I flashed over the existing crDroidAndroid. A shame the latter had really nice features but some bugs were too intrusive.
Google Apps Services kept crashing, so I had to reflash the Gapps and somewhat reinstall all apps. :/

Yes, it's never a good idea to flash one custom ROM over another. There are completely different tweaks made in crDroid, it's almost a miracle that it even booted, please do me a favour and wipe /system and /data as well as both caches and then clean flash it again, so you won't experience weird bugs that no one else has...
Use it with Voodoo kernel. Best combo
I came from validus and i forgot to wipe data (wiped cache system and dalvik), but it works flawlessly
Up to now perfect rom
that's has same bugs with 04/09/2017 version, didn't require some issue,we discussion bugs from this linkshttps://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-4-prime/how-to/news-lineage-4-9-17-available-t3667906
Alright, Now I'm experiencing the 100% but as well, just so that everyone knows, now I can confirm this bug too... Additionally, the bug with sticking charge notifications is there too...
Karevn says he solved the problem with a double tap on the EBBG screen.

NikGapps (pick this version: ARM64, 11.0, core [tested]).
New: Camera; both built-in camera (Camera2) and 3-rd party camera apps.
Camera2 may be a little bit laggy, please use 3-rd party camera app instead; for example OpenCamera. If you're running into errors, please report.
New: FM-Radio (maybe it needs a few restarts before it's working)
These things are NOT working:
Restart into recovery
Maybe some more things are not working.
Use this ROM at your own risk! It comes without any warranty! I'm not responsible for any damage! If you don't agree with that, don't try to flash this ROM in any way.
Benefits:
Added F-Droid and UnifiedNLP! If you don't want this, simply de-install it.
I've set maximum speaker volume to a higher value.
I've increased microphone gain.
I've changed the microfone gain to avoid echo in phone calls.
I was just gonna ask if you're planning on jumping on it after seeing the post from XDA. Am I assuming that whatever you did to make the camera work on LineageOS 17 didn't work with 18?

I see no benefit in doing that.

I'm using nearly the same source code that Tarkzim uses to build a ROM for Z5. And there the camera is working. I don't know why the camera is not working at our Z5C.
I have one or two ideas left; then I'll see...
Is there TWRP 3.3.1 for Z5C? This one's download link is dead.

So is there supposed to be a vendor partition? Magisk wouldn't install because it can't mount vendor.
New version out; see 1st post.
Camera working; both built-in camera (Camera2) and 3-rd party camera apps.
Camera2 may be a little bit laggy, please use 3-rd party camera app instead; for example OpenCamera. If you're running into errors, please report.
Are you able to flash Magisk on this ROM?

Yes. I'm using this version of magisk.
What about encryption capabilities with this ROM?
Never tried to use encryption; in none of my ROMs; not even in stock ROM.
So, please try it and report about the results here...
But beware, TWRP can't handle encryption at all!
New version out; see 1st post.
Fixed: Searching in the settings menu and access to the developer settings menu.

How did you work around the vendor partition?
And I don't think that's the official version (or at least the site isn't). You should try the one from GitHub in case they're different.
I remember the developer criticized Android Authority for linking to that site instead of the Github repo.
Edit: got it to work with 21.1
Any plans on enabling signature-spoofing?

you can install microG by edxposed signature spoofing module.
i using berni's los 15.1 and i installed xposed and signature spoofing module then flashed microG so everything works good
But If @Berni-0815 build AospExtended rom for our device, (this rom better than los, becuse it has many many features like own wakelock blocker, ui customization, signature spoof...) then we will Very Happy
flashed this and successfully booted last night... ran it for the evening with great stability. also successfully flashed magisk21 with no issues. camera needs work before calling it a daily but super stoked to see this!!! thanks so much!!!

some 3p camera apps i tried didn't work (nokia camera); in the ones that did, quality, focus and response were all problematic.

Solid build thank you!
Hi to all. Before wipe my data, what advantage has this rom on daily use compared with pixel edition?
Great to see a vanilla ROM!
Does the ROM support signature spoofing? Would like to use microG, hate gapps..
Thanks!

It has more customization, and no gapps, so you can install the gapps package you want.
Also, if anyone is facing battery drain, its because of screen off fod, you can disable it by using the setedit app and edit the "screen_off_udfps_enabled" to 0
Thanks for the tip @Paolo83

Hello. I don't know if it's appropriate to ask the question here in this section, but I'd like to know if the ROM is going to have continuous maintenance since I'm thinking of installing it... Thank you very much.
