Gmail issue - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I have a problem with Gmail. The best I can tell it started either right after the update to Android 9 or after the last Gmail update. My Gmail has stopped automatically checking for mail and notifying me. If I want to see and read any new Gmail I have to manually refresh the message list and even doing this, there is no notification sounds nor pop-up. On my Tab S4 which recently updated to Android 9 I don't have the issue. So I don't know what to do to fix it. It has all the permissions it needs and I have told the battery maintenance to let it run in the background. I'm hoping to avoid a factory reset. My note 9 is not rooted.

I am having a similar problem where it stopped to show notifications but when I open the app I find the new emails there.
Hope the experts can assist us.

Anyone experience this issue with Exchange on 2.2?

I am using the built in email app to connect to my Exchange server and I have my phone with me at work like most people.
What I experience is a message will come in to my mailbox, instantly I get the notification in both Outlook and the N1. I will read the message in Outlook, decide to keep it (mark it as unread)/delete it (move it to deleted items) and the N1 will keep notifying me via Trackball glow that I have an unread message even though I've read it.
If I read or delete a message on the N1 it is always pushed back to the Exchange server (and consequently Outlook) immediately.
Anyone else experience this? It is okay when I am not near Outlook, but when I'm in the office it is very annoying to be alerted about messages that I've already read or deleted.
This type of behavior is not happening on my iPhone 3GS when I had it connected and this type of behavior does not happen for my GMail account on the N1.
I actually believe the update to a message from read to unread may actually get pushed to the device they just don't clear the notification. I can confirm this by going in to the mail app and I noticed all the changes I've made are up to date.
The issue seems to be that the notifications won't auto-clear on the N1 once the changes have already been pushed to the phone. This really sucks
Can anyone confirm my findings? Thanks
I can also confirm this. The notification has to be cleared manually. Once the notification is there it's there until you acknowledge it.
Froyo, Desire, they all do that. Notification doesn't clear automatically apparently. Would be nice if it did. Once a check of unread/read is done, just clear the alerts once open/moved etc..

Google Mail notifications will clear automatically so it is definitely something they left out inadvertently. I hope they can fix it soon.
I switched back to my iPhone for the time being because of this. Does anyone know if there have been any attempts to fix this issue in 2.3?
Thanks.

SMS notifications stopped working after Android 7 update

Hi folks.
Last week I received an update from HTC to update my One M9 to Android 7. All went well with one exception: Since the update I no longer receive notifications off new SMS messages. They arrive (and send) fine, just no tone, vibes, or system tray (for want of a better description) alerts. The only way to know if I have a new message is to go into messages and have a look (a real pain). My assumption was a setting had somehow changed during the update so checked them.
There are 2 lots of settings for SMS notifications that I can see, one in the general settings (Settings-Apps-Notifications) which seems to be all as it should be, and a second lot accessible within the app itself (Settings-Notifications) where I think the problem may be. When I try to click the Notifications link the app immediately stops working with the message "Messages has stopped unexpectedly" and an offer of sending an error report. This error report is very long with all the details of my phone, hardware and software, but no other info beyond 'package com.htc.sense.mms has crashed'.
I have rebooted the phone a couple of times since the update but that did not help (although it did revive the playstore app which was also poorly after the update), and disabled 'Hangouts' as I read elsewhere this can sometimes be an issue but that did not help either. I have also tried all of the above in safe mode but the problem is still there.
Anybody have any ideas please? Many thanks in advance.

Notifications issue

So I recently got a P20 Pro. On the whole am enjoying it and it's a good device.
One small thing I've noticed is for some apps (WhatsApp and Android Messages so far) it seems to display the time of the latest notification for that app for all notifications if there are multiple notifications for that app. If that makes sense.
Have a look at the screenshot attached. For WhatsApp they all say 52mins ago, although only the latest one was received 52mins ago. I've tried looking at notification settings both system wide and app specific. I can't seem to work out what the issue is.
Anyone had issues with this too? Or anyone got any suggestions to try fix this?
Same problem here. Can't change default tone for Messages, Gmail, Outlook, Outlook calendar and more... According to Huawei support (Norway), the development team is aware of the issue, and are "working on it".
Sorry, replied in wrong thread :silly:
Notifications are a mess on this phone. Can't expand them on the lock screen to read the full text or reply, can't long press and change notification-sound for each app like on every other phone running Oreo. The worst thing is that has been like this for months now and yet they haven't fixed it with a firmware update.

Thanks for answering and if this is a big problem being encountered by many users, why is it not being discussed?
Let me try this MacroDroid app. & hopefully it works satisfactorily.

Thanks for replying. I have been able to get the above and implement it, but i am facing 2 issues -
1) I get the same sound notifications for all my Gmail accounts, i just see my primary account for auto syncing . How to correct this.
2) In speak text, i have written Gmail. Macrodriod repeats/speaks "Gmail" twice or more times.
Please advise. Again, thanks for your help.

Finally switched to Blue mail and everything is almost perfect now, though as per what i read, my information may be compromised.
I am getting instant mails and notifications now, much better than my notifications of gmail on this & other mobile.
Just been having this same issue for months on my Canadian Note 8 and it's been since the June 1 security patch update. Gmail is delayed (seen upwards of a bit more than an hour), Samsung's default Messages app sometimes is delayed as well (but if I have my Gear S3 on the text will come through on that but not my phone which is weird AF) and then a couple authenticator apps that send push notifications also don't come through or are very delayed. It's starting to piss me off and got no help thus far from Samsung. If this isn't fixed soon then it's my last Samsung device I will ever buy.
Forgot to mention, also tried factory reset and still not working (along with now the Messages app is stuck on an older version and won't update so now I can't even use custom notification sounds per thread anymore). Absolutely ridiculous! I know I can sideload the updated version but I shouldn't have to do that, so frustrating!

No problem here, active allow backgroud in battery usage in app info
Try clearing cache and reboot...
you literally have to go into "manage notification" then from there you can enable notifications for all sorts of things in gmail
Switch to FairEmail. This notification issue has been going on since the OnePlus 9 with no resolution. Even now I will randomly get Gmail notifications sometimes but it's maybe twice a day while FairEmail has alerted me for every single one of the ~100 emails a day I get.
