Decided For the Pixel 4 - vs all the others (Samsung, Apple, and etc) - Google Pixel 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

I am very excited. I really think it's a special phone, at least from a first glance. The phones that Samsung, Apple, LG, and others put out year after year are all.. carbon copies of one another. I always choose an outsider if I have the option for anything outside of the mainstream - you know, especially if everyone has it.
I had HTC m8 when Samsung ruled Android all alone. Than I opted for OnePlus when I broke my HTC.. because, why not right? Cheap, and as good as the twice as expensive ones.
Anyway!!
That was probably the main reason I decided to go with Pixel. On top of guarantee of getting new Android OS probably before anyone else, I also like the lack of a company skin, and bloatware. I mean root does take care of that but you shouldn't need to root to get rid of apps from a device that you OWN.
When I get it, hoping the order process goes without a hitch, I will write my first impressions here.

I didn't spend much time on the forum but from a few reviews I read.. it seems pretty mixed. Some hate it, others love it. Care to enlighten me, please?
Greatly appreciate any effort to that question..
Cheers, Amer

Apple sues Samsung

I thought cases used to be rectangular?

to being with lmao
So apparently from Apple's point of view every current ( post 2007 ) touchscreen phone is copying the iPhone. In all fairness the touch wiz interface bares resemblance to the iOS one ( don't throw rocks at me, I'm just making a point ) but this is sort of pushing it. Though they are good at avoiding lawsuits... I mean who in their right mind would have conceived making a single button mouse back in '98
Damn you beat me to it,
I even have the link ready http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/innovation/04/19/apple.samsung.lawsuit.wired/
They are suing them because the galaxy pad have rounded corners and black borders
cant think of an xda app signature
I think this is going to end badly for apple. I don't know if they realize theyre going up against the single largest corporation(Samsung Group) in the world, they must have HEAVY influence in asia.
Typical company lawsuit. Move on.
Sent from my Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
lmao at the pic Also Apple have bought 5.7bil $'s worth of stuff from Samsung, Which Samsung has a right to use in their own products aswell... So you'd expect them to be similar if they're using the same parts
Not to mention the LG Prada which debuted and shipped long b4 the iPhone....

Information Tech/Programming... Give me affirmation!

Looking for guidance... =)
I am a fifth year HS Math teacher. Undergraduate in Math- Planning on going for a Masters in Information Technology this Fall. But the thing is, I told my advisor, I really want to be exposed to many topics in the IT dept and figure out what I want to do. But then there is a part of me that really wants to go into Comp Sci and program. I'm reading through some Java tutorials now and am just very interested.
Teaching is great and I have had some of the best times and rewards teaching, but I can't imagine doing it for thirty years- graphing lines for thirty years, managing 35 people for thirty years, watching people with eyes in the back of my head for thirty years.
I want to work with adults, and I think IT can allow that. But I am curious about this programming aspect as well.
What would Xda's community recommend I do? I obviously have the mathematical mind to program and understand this stuff. I just need some direction from people who have been through similar situations and been down these paths.
Like I said, I'm currently enrolled to begin in August in an Information Systems masters program. I do have to take a .NET programming course as a pre-req. I'm also in System Analysis and Database Systems this coming semester.
Wow, thanks beforehand. It feels good to talk about this ^_^
We need to sticky a "what class should I take" thread. Get these all the time, need to roll it all up in one place.
This may help you with affirmation!

[Q] Update to latest OS

Heyo everybody, I'm new here, and I've got a typical newbie question to go with that!
I'd like to apologize if this was asked before (no doubt it has), I just wish for more personalized answers and the ability to ask more questions if need be without having to necro.
Alright allow me to jump straight to it: I bought one of them cursed AT&T S5 phones, and as I reside outside the US and don't have an AT&T SIM card, I can't update to the latest Android OS via "OTA" or even Kies (what a plague that software is...).
I've tried searching around these forums for a solution to my "problem", but in NO WAY do I consider myself an expert or do I believe I can achieve my goal alone. Had that been a secondary phone or some cheap stuff, I'd have experimented like a mad dog, but I've just purchased this baby.
So, as I said, I've done my research here, real quick, and I stumbled upon this, which if I was a stubborn fool would be the first thing I'd do. Fortunately and unfortunately, as I am totally NOT familiar with the whole lingo (Now what the heck is NCE), minus a few abbreviations I've deduced and searched for, I haven't done anything yet.
What I want:
-To be able to update my phone to the latest version via "legit" means (OTA/Kies?),
-To have the ability to further update my phone, should new ones be made available.
What I don't care about:
-Rooting my phone in the future, I have no interest in that whatsoever.
What I do care about:
-Maintaining the integrity of my phone, in that I wish to have clean software comparable or equal to stock material. (Proper stock, not AT&T stock if that's even possible).
My phone's info, if need be.

[Q][REQ]OG Galaxy Gear SM-V700 Still Worth Buying & Using

Or is it too outdated now, I'm considering getting this one, I like the placement of the camera and the fact I can choose android or tizen, only drawback for me is the 800mhz processor, so I figured I'd ask other users opinions.

Don't waste your time or money for a product that doesn't have a reasonable way to replace the battery. I bought two of them and the battery completely died with very little use in one of them. I will not buy another Samsung watch.

Well there's not very many smartwatches with removable batteries, so I guess you'd be waiting awhile, if they ever come out with one.
They're 50 to 70 bucks now on eBay, I can understand a faulty charging connector or something though, but I highly doubt something this new would suffer from a completely dead and drained battery already by now.
Got mine ordered and on the way, should be here friday or saturday... Hopefully it's still on Android OS and I don't have to retrograde from Tizen.
Nice though that ya can over clock it to 1.60Ghz, I don't see something that small needing a lot of cpu power anyways.
Happy with it regardless of what all it can or can't do makes me want the Rufus Cuff more now... LoL

I admit, Android phones could be great if they were refined, settings organized, touchscreen offset and calibrated, and applications made for it weren't lazy copies from iPhone riddled with malware, but unfortunately that isn't the case, also multiple restrictions, no control over application permissions and self-changing options are the most annoying part of Android.
Good luck removing that malware that cant be removed, installing antiviruses that don't do a thing, setting the screen time-out to "Never" or taking emergency school work pictures when your Android is at 10% battery, or asking for support on forums wasting hours of your life.
Me I'm done, parents and grandparents all been switched to iPhones, all problems suddenly disappeared, nobody is bothering me to fix their phone anymore :good:
All phones are encrypted and protected with 20 character passwords, yet unlocked in split second. (Granted, you can have that too, if you choose to encrypt aka marry SD card to your phone forever, but 99% of you wont take that chance, so setting any passwords is a pointless exercise.)
I'll hang around to answer some questions if anyone has gotten any.
lol...I'd like to post a "coolstorybro.jpg" meme but that would be rather rude for my part...instead I will close this thread and go back to watching my stories on TV....
