Huawei mediapad m5 lite - Limit of 1000 characters in Contacts 'notes' fields - Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite Questions & Answers

I have a Huawei mediapad M5 lite (model JDN2-W09) running Android 9 and EMUI 9.1.0.
The Simple Contacts Pro app (and the installed Huawei Contacts app) both limit the size of the 'notes' field to about 1000 characters.
The developers of 'Simple Contacts Pro' say that they do NOT impose such a limit, and suggest that the tablet I am using imposes the limit. That is borne out by my smartphone (a Moto G8 power) which runs Android 10 and Simple Contacts Pro and allows at least 10,000 characters in individual notes fields.
So my question is: what enforces this limit, and can I configure my mediapad to allow more than 1000 characters in notes fields?

[Q] does windows phone 8 store unlimited contacts?

Basically looking for a phone for my relative and settled for the lumia 820. Does anyone know if it can store unlimited contacts or if it has a limit as he has >2500 contacts and that is his main requirement. Also does windows phone come with cloud sync for contacts like on android?

I don't know for sure, but even that many contacts shouldn't be a problem. Contact storage seems unlimited, so long as you have enough space on your phone to store them. With that said, I highly suspect that contact storage doesn't take up a lot off space for each contact so you should be good to go.

He's upgrading from a Nokia dumbphone with a restriction of 2000 contacts for this reason alone. It has plenty of internal memory but it seems the restriction is arbitrary so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't there in windows phone

Windows Phone stores contacts in a Hotmail/Live/Outlook account that can store as many contacts as you can give. Also, for your relative having that many contacts, I'd recommend he add categories or something of that nature to make his contacts list easier to search.
To my knowledge the OS doesn't impose any limit on the number of contacts. However at least in the past Hotmail (precursor to Outlook.com) did limit users to 1000 contacts. GMail however does not so even if that limit on Outlook.com still exists he could simply store his contacts on a GMail account and set that up on his Windows Phone.
Does anyone know if the 1000 contacts limit on Outlook.com has been lifted (I last checked when they initially got EAS support back in the launch days of WP7)l.
Also have 820, still on GDR1 for a few more hours.
Have my companies address book in my phone. (It's cloud-based). Has in the neighborhood of 10,000 contacts. It is notably NOT available without a network connection, but then without a cell signal he wouldn't be calling anyone anyway.
@altintx: That's not the same thing at all. That's the ability to search the company directory (LDAP support) not a matter of contact sync or storage. Probably you have a small number of those contacts (the ones you actually communicate with electronically directly) synched to the phone.
@waveboy: No limit that I'm aware of. The phone syncs contacts from Google and Microsoft (Exchange or Hotmail) accounts, and stores new contacts "in the cloud", in much the same way that Android can.
Thank you gooddaytodie. Exactly the answer I was looking for!

Problem with stock E-mail application

Hi, I've recently changed my P8 to P10. On P8 I've used two IMAP accounts in stock e-mail application, version 3.1.0.27. Now I have configured this same accounts on P10 (version 3.1.0.28) and any of sent message isn't written to IMAP folder (i've created SENT, sent, Sent, Sent items, still no luck). After sending a message, and changing folder to "Sent" on phone, I can see this message, but only till refresh view. After refresh (sync) this message is gone. I've tried also to add custom prefix (Inbox), but still no luck. Several wipes also didn't give me results.
This E-mail app works on a P8 like a charm.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, can't wait to delete Outlook app

Hi,
I have the same problem. I've try everything, still not working.
I've sent an email to Huawei Romania and they said to use Gmail app instead of native client. I don't like Gmail app, and i don't want to use it.
It seems that we can do nothing until next update. Hope they will fix it.
Problem with stock E-mail application on Huawei Ascend XT-2
I have the same problem with Huawei Ascend XT-2. Has anyone tried a different email client other than Google G-Mail?
I used the default email app with my IMAP service, but had a number of issues (not supporting IDLE for one.. ) so I searched for a solution and bought AquaMail in the end.
For IMAP this client is like a dream come true, supports everything and is highly customisable. But having push notifications again and notifications which disappear when I open my mail for instance on the computer, is exactly what I was searching for.
Also, when I send stuff on my phone, it's also stored in the the sent folder on the IMAP server. You can try the client for free by the way, it's in the playstore.
Indeed. I just today bought it and now I'm testing everything and looking up problems You guys have. This is a stupid one from Huawei. How responsive is Huawei support in theyr official support forum? It is worth My time to post something there?
It's weird. I'm using native email app (ver. 3.1.0.28) and only problem i have, is when open the app, and delete emails without reading, (spam) they're back after a while. It's annoying. But emails appears in folder default "received". I have two acounts, gmail, and other, and have no problem.

Lets hope that EMUI 8 mail app will be better. If not I will write to support what is going on. I hope someone will do it too as they can ignore only one people complaining.

Note 9 PIE upgrade broke MS Exchange Tasks

Hi all,
I know this is not for everyone, but really bugging me.... I am using Note 9 for work - key is syncing with company MS Exchange account (Office 365) - INCLUDING Tasks, which we use in our team. This was working beautifully in Oreo - the task widget was showing correctly my active work tasks.
PIE update broke this - in several ways:
Tasks widget removed
New Reminder app and widget are device or Samsung-cloud only - do not understand MS Exchange Tasks and hence only fit for personal use.
Samsung calendar app and widget still pull Exchange Tasks, BUT mistreat them as just appointments by another name - i.e. they won't be shown unless they have a due date, and if so, only on THAT date (as an appointment), instead of showing them whenever ACTIVE (until checked off) and flagging them overdue when past due date.
Samsung support apologized but seems uninterested in a fix, despite Note 9 being a 'professional' (and expensive) work device.
Kludgy work-arounds possible, but largely unsatisfactory - including using MS's own ToDo app, which is overkill for just tasks, does not work with our Office 365 set-up, and its widget doesn't go dark on the Note. I'm not using the MS Outlook app either - built-in mail and calendar work just fine and I don't need another 'Blinders-white' app.
Am I the only one bugged by this? If not, any suggestions?

Huawei Cloud

Hi, everything is working fine with my P20 pro and mediapad m5 except for one thing... Huawei cloud, in particular contact...it doesn't sync anything. Let me explain, if I create a contact online on cloud website I can't see it on phone or tablet... I've tried to move all contacts on sim too and viceversa but nothing...my contact also doesn't sync with cloud online... My contact are actually Google contact..I see it on my phone but I can't sync in Huawei cloud... Did I miss something?
