Which Custom Rom for the best Pixel like experience? - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I hop you can help out.
I got realy tired if MIUI and it's heavy weight "souvenirs", therefore i'd like to install a Custom Rom to get the closest pixel like experience possible. I saw the Pixel Experience ROM which seems to have been abandoned by it's creator. A case which i would realy like to avoid.
On my Galaxy S4 Back in the days I realy liked Lineage OS, because it was clean and pretty well maintained.
What rom can you recommend me that is:
well maintained
as close to a pixel experience as possible
Realy looking forward to your recommendations!
BR

I'm on Project 404 now (with FlameGapps) and it's the best in terms of battery life and pixel experience. I recommend also Paranoid Android.
Unfortunately PE Plus has a lot of battery drain.

Revenge OS is very good in terms of performance and battery life, maybe the best... It's also updated frequently. But if you want pure pixel experience I don't recommend it.

One issue I already found: can't see when people are calling me nor can I see the call window when I call someone. Known bug?
Edit:
Found it: have to set default app for calls in settings. Now I'm fully happy. Thank you!

Need a rom suggestion..

I'm getting the N6 tomorrow and it'll be my first rom device in over a year. I'm looking for a rom that's fast, smooth and stable. Features and customizations aren't important as performance and battery.
What do you recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Obviously what your suggestions here are going to be biased towards the particular user's experiences.
It's like coming to this forum and asking need a phone suggestion, everybody will suggest a Nexus 6 because it will be biased. My recommendations would be look at all of them (or the ones that interest you) and give it a try.
That's my most unbiased answer. If you're looking for a biased answer then it'd be Chroma because it's a ROM maintained by me and I'm quite passionate about maintaining and providing updates with the newest and latest things that I personally find useful.

There's is nothing wrong with recommending your own product. The fact that you took the time to post your opinion is awesome. I know asking people's opinion on roms can be kind of tricky, But It's nice to hear peoples mini review and opinion even if it's, Because they use the Rom.
Question, Do you have a video or tutorial on your Rom, I'm going to run with it, But would like to know more about it and it's features. Thanks!

Certainly there is nothing wrong with it but it feels dirty to lead someone onto another person's benefit. I respect honesty and am a honest person by heart. I try my best to give the most unbiased answer to others.
And absolutely, there are two video/reviews of the ROM although they are on older builds of the ROM. You can see a newer updated feature list on the changelog https://docs.google.com/document/d/1c7wNrT0khaipv-M0Z35OPQ8sxPHO-e9-Rk945fo4iJE/edit compared to the date of the video/reading.

Best thing to do however is to try out a few roms and keep the one you like most. It all depends on your preferences and usage.

@J.Guido85 Your ROM choice will come down to your preference. Do you want a minimalistic or feature packed ROM? Chroma will in fact give you the most features along with some of the best performance/battery life available. Rastapop will offer you a very light feature set as it is a very minimal but stable ROM.
If you're in fact looking for a ROM that will give you the best features & performance on the N6, Chroma is definitely among the top N6 ROM's in terms of great support, features, stability, and battery life. I've been personally using Chroma has my daily driver ever since flashing it well over a month ago, it continues to impress with every update.
I have a YouTube channel with a lot of Nexus 6 ROM overviews you can check out if you want here. I update weekly.

You do realise that performance and battery are opposite ends of the same scale? And that bias towards one is bias away from the other? Also that every kernel can be tweaked to bias towards either as much as you want?
Basically I'm saying they're all the same if you know what you're doing. Choose based on features then tweak to performance OR battery

You are mistaken brother, fingerprint is present and working great.
I think fingerprint sensor works best in NucleaRom
Plus everything you can ask for.
It has minor bugs like some rare app Force Closes and bit of UI stutters. But UI smoothness can be enhanced with Fly on Mod

Recommend me a ROM

Hello XDA
I know there is no such thing as the best ROM but I was hoping to do a little cheating and save my self some reading and get some opinions on what would fit me the best.
I use my phone as a business phone and thus my battery is dying constantly. I got ALOT of SMS and my phone is constantly slowing down. I want something that won't seem like a old device.
I want to root to install a new ROM and battery tweaks. Here are my requirements:
MUST be stable
Smooth
Good battery life
I want something I don't have to constantly tweak. With my note 4 I essentially changed so much that at the end it became such a nuisance trying to keep modding etc. I want to set this up and forget about it, unless needed.
Thanks !
Use Paranoid Android 7.2.1

I understand where you are coming from, but from a practical point of view, if someone recommended a ROM, you may find your experience different from theirs. Happens all the time. Second, it's a good idea to read first. I just got this phone. All I have done is read threads here at xda. Not even so much ROMs, but reading about the phone. This step alone has saved me from myself in the past. Makes it easier to troubleshoot problems.

I agree. I have tested enough roms to conclude that for the 3T there's no point in trying to find something better than stock
Perhaps only something purely based on oxygen os, but more debloated, like freedomOS
basically it doesnt matter, 99% is all placebo.
TugaPower is out-of-box really good, which is LineageOS with some small mods (Viper4Android Audio mod ie.)

Beta with Magisk for root and a kernel of your choice. Get some performance and battery benefits from the kernel (if that's the type you decide to flash). Debloat it. Use Greenify and BetterBatteryStats to eliminate wakelocks.

I guess stock is the best choice here for you. It has no additional battery hungry features like viper but is still stable. You may consider flashing a kernel instead and I would hardly recommend you to read into them since that's the best way to get to know to new kernels.

I would say oos..if u want a flawless stock experience with better battery life, use freedom os..
I personally use oos open beta 12( rooted with magisk) with elemental x kernel..it gives me good battery and flawless performance..apps like substratum and viper 4 arise works fine..
Thanks for all the replies. I tried out RR and had an issue with the WiFi dropping - since this was a business phone I decided not to flash a custom ROM. I am now on OOS open beta, the latest one. Loving the parallel apps feature!
Now to get into theming and modding. I've got the basics down already like greenify, BBS.
Any recommendations on rooted apps? What have I missed in the last year or so

Current best Nougat ROMs for Z00L

For ME the best ROMs are :
1. COSMIC OS - Simple and buttery smooth. Good battery backup too. Best daily driver for me.
2. Resurrection Remix - The best in terms of customization and features.
3. cRDroid - Best battery backup ever in a Nougat ROM.
4. AEX (AOSP Extended) - Mix of everything. Smooth and good battery life. Could have been the best if not for the equalizer which need to be fixed. Though you can solve it with a sound mod.
This list can change with release of latest builds of ROMs. This list has not been created to rank the developers. They are the best and only due to their effort we have these tonnes of ROMs to try out. Try any according to your taste.
Feel free to share your lists and opinions here. It is not polite to discuss about other ROMs in a single thread. I have noticed it recently as more and more people violate this rule.
So post everything here.

Coming from Nexus 6 (Pure Nexus)...which ROM for Mi MIX?

Hi,
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. If not, please let me know.
I just bought a Mi Mix last week and am wondering which ROM is best for me. I had been using a Nexus 6 with Pure Nexus which works very well for my needs. Given that, and the following requirements, which ROM would be best for the Mi Mix?
1. Double tap to wake.
2. Not MIUI (I really don't like it).
3. Stable (I'd like to load once and not have to flash new ROMs very often).
4. Nougat 7.1.2
5. Lots of customization options.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome to the yard.
Simply all your criterions are telling like you'll get what you want by Resurrection Remix rom. Second shot perhaps should be the AOSiP rom.
Sent from my lithium using XDA Labs
Right now I think AOSiP is the most rounded of them all right now. Just my opinion though.
AICP. It works best for me, has all the customizations you need but isn't as overloaded as RR.
You dont want miui, but sadly epicrom is the fastest in my experience. I tried rr it is recommended.
I loaded Resurrection Remix last night and it was working well until I tried to run the SquareHome launcher. It kept crashing so I then tried Lineage but it went into a reboot loop shortly after the initial start around where you enter the wireless information. So then I flashed AOSiP and it also went into a reboot loop at about the same point. I wiped everything each time. So at this point I flashed RR again just to see if it would load without rebooting and it worked fine. Fortunately I was able to figure out why the SquareHome launcher wasn't working so it's all good now too. Everything with RR seems to be working fine so far but I haven't used it very much yet.
However, I'm curious why the others caused the reboot loop problem. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Update: I have the YouTube slowness and audio problem so I'm guessing my firmware needs to be updated. Could that have caused the reboot issue with AOSiP and Lineage also?

Not sure, but the video slowness and audio problem is caused by the dated firmware, try flashing the 7.7.20 firmware found in the RR thread.
I will also recommend you to try ViperOS , it doesnt have much support but the rom is smooth with great battery life (compared to other AOSP/Lineage based roms in my experience) and the performance is very good with no need of a custom kernel.

ViperOs is awesome. Unfortunately I've decided to sell the Mi Mix. I've tried but I just can't get past the audio quality from the 'earpiece' during calls.

Sadly, yes. As I mentioned, I just can't get past the earpiece limitations. My hearing isn't the best and I'm having problems with hearing and understanding callers compared to other phones I have. I really love the phone (that screen! and that battery life!) but I need to use it as a phone which just isn't working for me.

It may not be that bad for everyone. My hearing isn't the greatest so I'm sure that factors in. The best ROM I used in the short time I was using it is ViperOS. I've got it on Swappa right now for $415 but that's a little flexible.
Thanks.
