Accessories Cheap wireless charger - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

Hi All
I bought a cheap QI wireless charger on eBay for my Mi 11 Ultra. It was only a few pounds. It comes with a USB cable, but no charger. It has an LED which is red when powered, and turns blue when charging. It's only 10W but I figure if I charge it overnight that's plenty of time to charge a 5Ah battery.
So far, it seems to work OK if the phone is turned on, but not so if it's turned off, which is a bit confusing as when Iay the phone (turned off) ont he charger, the LED goes blue and the phone does the mini-boot to display the battery logo.
When I get some spare time, I'll run my phone down to zero and charge it fully using the charger to see how long it takes.
I'll have a further play and update this as I go. The original link was:
10W Qi Fast Wireless Charger Charging Pad Dock For Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra 11 Pro | eBay
Universal compatibility for all Qi enabled wireless charging devices or devices with Qi receiver/case. 1 x Wireless Charging Pad. Anti-slip silicone mat to secure the smartphones in place. Smart IC design for efficient and stable power transfer.

I still have the old Qi charger I got with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. I think it's 10W, and man it's slow!

I got one of those for free with my phone and I only put it on for 10-15 minutes and when I picked up the phone it was hotter than charging with the 67w cable
I haven't used it since in case it damages the battery even faster

Ok so I've had a play with the charger today. From a 1% battery charge,it fully chargers my Mi 11 in 5.5hours. In the days of supercharging, this is fine for me as I sleep 8 hours a night so I can fully charge my phone overnight easily.
I didn't notice any overheating, though. I charged my Ultra with a plastic covering on the back.
Anyway., 'cos I don't get out much, here's a graph:

Just a bit more on this. The phone didn't charge to 100% overnight as I slept. I think this is because the adaptor in my bedroom isn't powerful enough. According to the charger, it's 5V at 2A so 5x2 = 10W I thought should be OK but it isn't.
Maybe this charger is underrated but in any case, it works jsut fine and charges up to 100% on my Xiaomi 67W charger so I'll use that instead.
Cheers Steve

Hi @empty.cad well, that's a posh charger! Where did you buy it from and how much was it?
Just to finish off my short novel on the cheap charger, I used the Xiaomi charger last night with the phone case on and it charged to 100%, so job done
OK I'll stop banging on now as my life is complete
Cheers

Hi @picitup !
I would like to ask you about your charging experience. Some people reported that using quick 67w charger makes their battery to drain quicker during the normal phone usage, where charging it slower make it to drain slower. Did you noticed any difference in this matter?
What is your screen on time afyer charging the phone with 10w wireless charger?
I am asking all this because I plan to do the same as you - to charge the phone slowly overnight with the wireless charger.

Hi @misiek735
I'm not sure of the answer, but I'll discharge my phone and charge it up tonight using the cheapy wireless charger and run the Norwegian Train Ride video from youtube and time it. First time I charged it with the 67W charger and did this test, it ran for 11.5 hours which I thought was quite good. So now all we need are the wireless figures. I'll post up tomorrow after ZZZzzzz
Interestingly, it seems to work well with my daughter's and her boyfriends Iphone.
Watch this space.....

I just had a thought. I installed an app called Plug Sound here:
Plug Sound - Apps on Google Play
Enjoy millions of the latest Android apps, games, music, movies, TV, books, magazines & more. Anytime, anywhere, across your devices.
play.google.com
It plays a custom sound when you plug your charger in and another when you unplug it. Pleasingly, it also works with wireless charging which is handy for positioning the phone on the charger, ensuring it's in the right place.

So this is $1500 phone and Chinese saved $10 on charger?
This is disturbing.

No, the 67w phone charger in china is optionally free and the phone costs under $1000, probably considerably less unless you get the 12/512 model everyone likes
There is no other waterproof phone with a SD 888 ,12gb ram 512gb storage, 5k battery and this screen quality and a 67w charger for the price
Try harder

It's true. I'm a fully qualified tight wad. Must go as the nice young men in their clean white coats are at the door.
On that note, I didn't pay $1500, I paid $1,000 on Giztop for 12M/512G but they are going for £1400.00 ($1983.00) on fleabay UK with "no returns" lol.

A short delay on this. I discharged the phone yesterday using a 12 hour youtube vid and got it down to 2%.
It didn't charge overnight as I changed the USB cable. I guess for a couple of amps, you need a decent cable, not the cheapy 5 strand ones.
It's now charging up wierelessly using a short USB cable which seems to be working fine so there will be a delay of a day on the results, but don't worry I'm on it

i am sorry if i upset you, please enjoy your phone.
just to clarify $1000 on giztop, same giztop from other thread that does not ship yes?
and other thing while i still may ... some complain newer miui updates has a lot bugs for example gestures stopped working ... just saying .... did they eventually figure how to create larger notes?

Hi I'm not uspet. Here in the UK we say 'I'm too old and ugly to get upset' so no worries. Yes I bought from giztop a month or so ago and they did ship it out and it arrived in about a week. I just looked at giztop and according to their page, the phone is in stock.
I don't use gestures - something I have to learn about. I've noticed some 'bits and pieces' of irritation when updating - some of my permissions change. For example, I use Chomp SMS and gave it permission to read SMS, but after the update it didn't have that permission so I just re-enabled it again nd it works fine.
This all may be academic soon, though as I checked mi unlock yesterday and had 56 hours left to unlock so should be Thursday for me, then I'll flash the EU rom.
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by large notes?
Back to the charger. Sorry for the delay in doing the test. I got a new printer and had a play with it yesyerdayh. I'll do my best to post up tomorrow.
Cheers

(poll) POGO CHARGER WORTH IT?

Hey guys so lately there's been a lot of discussion about the pogo charger.
I've checked all the threads and more than the value of the charger, the forums are filled with shipping complaints.
I can't seem to sort out the opinions and real comments on the pogo.
As such, for those really on the fence about getting a charger (like me) I made this poll, since there was one on screen protectors to help people choose.
Any comments made, please make constructive opinions on if you have a pogo charger, if it's worth it, etc. (not on your shipping problems please)
Thanks!
I only bought it because I thought it would be able to charge my tablet while under heavy usage (1.7GHz performance gov + full brightness), and sadly it doesn't even seem capable of doing this.

I seem to remember somebody stating that under heavy usage they've saw a current drain over 3A. If your situation is the same, nothing is going to keep up with that which is over the max of the charging circuit. It's simple to test for that.
The POGO cord charges faster but stops during OTG usage, no ROM/kernel Dev's have tried to solve this issue so far. There may be another issue with cigarette lighter type power supply also.
Shipping just took time from Korea, now they have a US shipping source through Amazon.
I really like it, saves wear and tear on the USB. I charge at night, and never have enough time to use it that I run the battery in a day. The OTG complication is annoying, but liveable, and hopefully likely to be solved.
I like the reduced wear on the micro usb connection and additional safety of quicker disconnect if cord is yanked from tripping. I charge the tablet at night, so not too concerned whether charging is quicker. I would love to see some ideas on how to improvise a charging dock using this cable!
I think whether it's worth it totally depends on the reason you want it. If you want to use OTG while charging or to do data transfer, it's obviously a bust.
These are the reasons I'm very happy with it, in order of priority:
1) Saves stress on the USB jack, especially if dropped or banged against something.
2) Easy to click onto the N10 when I'm done reading an ebook in bed at night and I'm sleepy.
3) Charges a bit faster than USB.
If you're looking for a miraculously shorter charge time then it's not worth getting.
Definitely worthwhile ... it is one of the nicest accessories I've purchased in a while. I purchased it only for the convenience of not having to mess with the mUSB charging. It delivered. My charging graphs indicate that it charges at a faster rate than the mUSB ... just a small extra bonus.

^^ this.
I bought it because I've had occasions where others in the house have messed up micro-usb connections on phones due to using them while still plugged in - with this, there's no way of easily damaging it
And so far, so good! Would really recommend it.

Wow, max brightness ? I find the lowest setting really bright.
I did general usage on lowest brightness and it charged pretty good, IMO.
It was worth every penny and when they come back in stock at Amazon I will order another.
I use my tablet heavily throughout the day and found myself unable to charge it completely while I slept. Now using the stock wall wart and pogo it charges in a fraction of the time. Like I said, worth every penny.
Charges faster, but was it worth it for me? Still undecided. The main reason for me getting it was to plug a HD into an OTG cable and still get power to the device via the POGO. Unfortunately that will not work. The POGO will not charge when running OTG. Shame.
Back in stock on Amazon... Just ordered one tonight. I'm interested for two reasons. Slightly faster charging (not a big deal for me, as I generally plug it in at night, and use it much of the day), and I also like the idea of the pogo connector instead of using the USB socket every day. Should have it in 3 to 5 business days.
... beamed from my Nexus 10 to your planet
Just ordered one off eBay, should have it by the 20th at the latest. I spend a lot of time driving so carry the Nexus 10 around with me in the car and I've bent the USB plug on the cable so though I'm better off getting the pogo charger incase I damage the USB port on the tablet
Answer- Yes it is but...
Just got the pogo cable on Friday and did some testing over the weekend and have some results and observations.
I ran my N10 down to 10% Saturday and plugged in via the pogo cable at about 11:30pm. . When I checked Battery Monitor Widget the following morning it showed fully charged at 4am. Total time 4.5 hours. Max charging rate was at 1916mA and tapered to 415mA.
Sunday I did the same, (11% and 11:30pm) and used the USB cable. A check of BMW showed the N10 fully charged by 5am. Total time 5.5 hours. Max rate was 1559mA and a taper to 420mA.
So, an hour faster. Not huge, but significant. Overall I think the important thing with the pogo cable is that it will charge as you use it. When I plugged in with it before I turned the screen off I was showing a net charge, while with USB it continued to discharge, albeit slower.
Both of these (admittedly unscientific) tests were done with the OEM charger and USB cable.
The pogo charger is a great way to save the USB port of the Nexus 10 if you have young kids. Since the pogo charger is magnetic, there no way to damage the tablet when a toddler yanks it off a desk while its charging. I am very happy with my pogo cable. Bought it off amazon and got it in 2 days.

Qi Wireless Charger with 5450mAh Power Pack

Found this gem on Amazon, got it today and have been testing it. It works great and has a steady charge when using the device plugged in to the a/c cord or when just charging your phone from it's own battery. It's kind of funny because the battery life is so good on my phone I don't think i will need the ability to charge anywhere with the charging pad unless I go on an extended road trip. Device is very slick tho for being made in china.

Wireless charger and some questions.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F6SPYJS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I recently purchased this from Amazon. Not a bad buy for $22, but some quirks. I noticed that if you are going to charge with a case on, you need an optimal charger and cable. With anything less than that, the charger will repeatedly cycle on and off. With case off a 1amp charger will work, with case on you need a 2amp charger and good cable. Also, the sweet spot on the phone is somewhat small, so it needs to be positioned with some precision, can't just be dropped onto the charger.
Here's the one problem and I don't know if its the charger or G2. The phone charges fairly rapidly. So if I awaken in the middle of the night for some reason which I will not discuss here, the phone will be fully charged and the charging will shut down. However, over the rest of the night the charger doesn't turn on and the phone charge trickles down to something around 97%. Even if I take the phone off the charger, the charging won't immediately start up again. I haven't determined if there is a point at which wireless charging will be re-enabled but all works well when I replace it on the charger the following night.
This is the charger. I have a Samsung Qi S4 charger and it will continue to trickle charge throughout the night. When I pull mine off in the AM, it's at 100%.
The more expensive chargers have multiple coils in there to allow "drop and charge" and also have better charging programming to trickle charge.
The cheaper ones work well, but as you mentioned, are a little trickier to find the sweet spot and just turn off when reached 100%. The cheap ones are good for travel and office charging, but I'd buy a better one for bedtime charges.

These get good reviews and are cheaper. I don't own one to know how it operates, but reviews look good. Ebay also has one that I think is the same device for $10.

Thanks. Yeah, I was thinking of doing that. Using the coil at my work desk and the more reliable plugin at bedtime. At least with a plug in and suboptimal cable, I'll get a slow charge warning but eventually completely charged in the AM.
You won't get the Slow Charge message at all using Qi. In fact I use a standard USB 5V wall plug that spits out 500mah. It complains just using the cable, but not the cable and Qi.
I recommend slow charging bedside anyway (either wired or Qi). You'll get a MUCH longer lasting battery that way. Fast Charging is also Fast Depleting.

What charging speeds are people getting with QCm

I'm just curious how long it's taking people to charge their devices using a QC 3.0 charger. It seems slow for me. I went from 10% to 20% in about twenty minutes. Other QC devices I've had charge much faster than this. Is this normal? It's an Anker 3.0 charger and I've tried multiple cables.
Its taking longer than id imagined based on what id seen about QC3 fast enough though and the phone doesn't seem to get warm. This is using the provided Sony charger which the store told me was a quick charge one. I see similar speeds off my Anker in car charger which is QC3 compliant.
Only ever had my Nexus 5X to compare to (which wasn't QC3 just rapid USB charging) and it seems about on par with that id say.
Using the included Sony QC charger and cable, mine charged from 16% to 70% in 50 minutes and then tapered off from 70% to 100% taking ~80 minutes for that.
Is the QC included? Read a review that it was not. Will receive mine next week.
I think it depends on the region; mine came from Expansys, which I think is the Hong Kong version with a type-G plug (UK), and it did. It only came with a corded hands-free headset, though.
Mine arrived Thursday and I charged it to 100% before turning it on. It was at 5% today when I plugged in the charger. It took 2 hours to reach 100% with the phone turned on but not being used. My phone was ordered from eGlobal Central, Hong Kong. Charger has the Type G plug with Type A, non-polarized adapter.
Cheers!
Got it today, and there was no QC in the package. :/ I live in Scandinavia.
There's a toggle in the settings for the Battery Care mode and from what I understand it monitors your charge habits and slows the quick charge time down during times when it thinks you'll leave it plugged in longer. The premise is that it will prolong battery service life. If you're looking for absolute fastest charge times be sure that's toggled off because it's on by default.
My HK market phone also came with the Sony quick charger. Seller included an adapter for US.
I ordered this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SAMAR-Charge-Charger-PowerPort-Samsung-Black/dp/B075CFKWNQ/ from Ebay with an EU plug.

I bought a Quickcharge3 from Amazon. Works brilliantly, 2% per minute for the first 30 minutes. Slows down quickly after that. As was mentioned above, there is a battery care option that can delliberatly slow down the charge if it feels it's not in the interests of the battery, perhaps that's what's happening when you are charging. Turn if off, restart the phone and then try again.
Edit: make sure you are using the original supplied Sony USB cable when you are testing. USB C leads are notorious at giving charging problems, especially cheap ones.
Any visual clues if fast charging is active? When using the magnetic load connection on the z3c the 'Fast charging' text was visible.

Using a generic charger my Xperia Z1 have a decent charging speed.
My some apps are open while you charge. They consume a large amount of space and battery.

Mi Mix Factory Charger/Type C USB Question/Issue

Hey guys,
A few weeks ago I made a thread about my Mi Mix NOT detecting on any PC despite trying different Type C usb cords and the factory one.
I've never really timed how long it takes to charge my phone and recently I downloaded this Ampere app that measures the voltage and mah.
My Mix was at 40% and I plugged it in and left it in for 20 min and checked the app. It said something like 3.7 voltage and charging at 120mah minimum and 190mah maximum.
From what I'm reading, thats really bad.
So I plugged my phone in with an Anker Type C usb and a charging block from an LG 5.
Phone was now charging at 1600mah ish.
I'm assuming there is an issue with either my charging equipment AND / OR the charging port of my Mix. I've already ordered a new charging port from aliexpress 3+ weeks ago because of my PC unrecognized issue.
Anyway I just want to confirm that getting 120mah- 190mah on the stock charger is NOT normal?
I've ordered this https://www.amazon.ca/AUKEY-Charger-Samsung-Qualcomm-Certified/dp/B00RJO6AHM
and another Anker Type C cord to replace.

I don't have it with me, but I think the original Chinese charger that comes with the Mix is a 2.5A/5V one.
I've never used it, don't trust the Chinese chargers, rather have used an original Xiaomi EU approved (CE marked) charger that came with a Redmi Note 4.
That charger is "only" 2.0A/5V, so you don't get any "fast charging". But the Mix will still get fully charged in max 3 hours, which is fine for me.
And I figure the battery will last longer, it gets quite hot when charging at higher rates.
I know because I tested on a Mi Note 2 which came with a 3.0A EU approved charger. That charger works fine, really fast, and I trust it from a safety point of view - much heavier and thicker than the Chinese one.
But I charge the Note 2 with the 2.0A charger also, to spare the battery.
Normal charging current is 1500mA and up, depending on the chargers capacity. It will be less towards the end of the charging cycle, when the battery is nearly full, and sometimes also in the beginning, for some reason.
Don't understand why, never figured that out.

well it sounds like my factory charger is messed. 190ma when it should be getting at least 1000ma. I hope that the Aukey charger I ordered is safe for it, I've done some reading with other xiaomi phone owners and they've purchased it but I haven't seen a Mi mix owner review it. It says its CE approved.

Aukey has a good reputation, but I prefer the Xiaomi original EU approved chargers, just because they are "Xiaomi". (and I am located in the EU, of course.)
There "might" be some sort of intelligent interface built in that especially suits the Xiaomi phones.
No particular reason to believe so, just color me superstitious.

i understand you. It is typically safer to always go with factory rather than aftermarket. But in my case, my phone is not charging correctly as I'm only seeing 190ma on the amp meter.:crying:

That can and does happen on certain custom ROMs and rapid charge doesn't kick in all the time. I can also say I had this issue on lg g5 and the charger proved to faulty on this occasion. So try the new port with old charger see how it goes. If no improvement try a different charger, the ones that come with the phone are very good. IMO

Bought a CHOETECH 50W 6-Port Desktop Charger last year and attached it to my bedside table; one of the best purchases I've ever made; quickcharge 3 on two ports and one power adapter in place of the 3 or 4 individual chargers I used to have. Bargain.
