Recommended firmware

It stuck at boot logo and after a while it restart to twrp.

I must say... Simply awesome!
I took the recommendation of the guide to change the file system to F2FS and I notice the speed on the phone, when installing the apps and in a general way. Many thanks to the dev for this ROM!
The GApps that did work for me were the NikGApps.

Everytime the same thing/question...like for all Roms...you have to format data after flashing the Rom.

Well, data is mandatory if switching roms but you can ignore wiping internal storage but for that
Wipe all except internal storage
Flash rom
Reboot
I never tried this method on cepheus but you can try it

Hello, it is impossible for me to install the rom, I do all the steps, I clean everything as the instructions say, I install the rom, after installing, I erase data and when rebooting the system, it stays in the boot of the rom and it returns me to recovery all the time :-(
I don't know what I'll do wrong but I've tried like 10 times and nothing, I give up.
Thanks for your work and effort in making a great rom.

Hi, if it came from Miui rom, I had the latest Stable from Xiaomi.eu V12.5.3.0.
And in what order do I install everything?
The first thing is to install the Chinese firm 21.3.10 and then I do everything else? Or can I download other firmware such as the European firmware fw_cepheus_miui_CEPHEUS_V12.5.3.0.RFACNXM?
Then I delete all the format data
Reboot in recovery
Configure data and cache in f2fs
Flash rom
Reboot the system and I don't install gapps.
Thanks for your help.

Flashing firmware is must before flashing rom. You can try eu firmware if you want but i don't know if it works. Try both
Actually i am new in cepheus and never tried these experiments.

I flashed it without setting data do f2sf. I flashed NickGapps basic and Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_11.02.2020.zip. Rom booted and worked normally. After first booting I went back to TWRP and flashed Magisk. Unfortunately it didn't pass Safetynet. Anyway thank you very much for your work.

For safetynet hide magisk and app probably even playstore. And check safetynet from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.freeandroidtools.safetynettest

Hello, in the end I was able to install it !!!
First I installed the Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_11.02.2020.zip file, then the Chinese firmware, then the Rom, and finally the NickGapps Core.
When the installation finished I deleted the data and when the system rebooted the Rom started.
Thank you very much for your effort and for bringing us this great rom, I hope everything works very well and has a good battery life.
Greetings

If you don't mind @RDS.007, I leave here how I did the installation to help others and not miss any steps.

DUAL BOOT PATCHER
DualBootPatcher is an open-source app that allows multiple ROMs to be installed on a single Android device. It does its best to work with existing code and does not require explicit support from ROMs. This will allow any number of ROMs to be installed at the same time. It works by patching the secondary ROM's installation scripts and boot image to load the ROM files from an alternate location (/system/multiboot, /cache/multiboot, and /data/multiboot). Because of the way this is implemented, no changes to the primary ROM are necessary.
Warning: This method requires one time factory reset.
How to use the patcher
Android
Download the patcher apk and run it. Tap "Patch Zip File" from the navigation drawer and choose the file you want to patch.
Windows (GUI)
Double click DualBootPatcher.exe and choose the file you want to patch.
--------
After patching the zip file, a new file, like some_rom_data-slot.zip file will be created. For example,
Lineage-14.1-oxygen.zip
After patching would create a new
Lineage-14.1-oxygen_data-slot.zip
If you want to root secondary rom, then download Magisk 12.zip given below(Do not use other version, you can update that later from magisk manager app) and patch it like you did with rom
Instructions for dual booting
Before doing anything, download the Dual Boot Patcher.apk from the download section below.
The patcher offers several locations for installing ROMs:
Primary: This is normally used for installing a zip to the primary ROM. It is not required, but is strongly recommended because it has code to prevent the zip from inadvertently affecting other ROMs.
Secondary: Secondary is the first multiboot installation location. It installs to the system partition. This is a good spot for installing a second ROM because it doesn't take any space away from the internal storage.
Multi-slots: There are 3 multislots: multi-slot-1, multi-slot-2, multi-slot-3. These install to the cache partition. This is specifically for devices, like the Galaxy S4, that have a massive cache partition.
Data-slots: There can be an unlimited number of data slots. These install to the data partition and eat up space on the internal storage. This is useful for devices where the system partition is nearly full and the cache partition is tiny. These slots are named "data-slot-[id]", where "id" is something you provide in the app.
Extsd-slots: There can be an unlimited number of extsd slots. These install to the external SD card, which is useful as it keeps the ROMs off of the internal storage. Note that the ROM's data files are still stored on the data partition.
Now Let's Start
1) Boot into recovery
2) Make a backup of /system /data /boot on SD Card (it's important to make it on sd card!)
3) Wipe internal storage (it will erase all of your data including photos, music etc on internal storage. So make sure you moved them or made their backup)
4) Restore your backup and boot to your ROM
5) Install Dual Boot Patcher.
6) Install patched rom as secondary on /system or on /data partition - it's your choice. There is lot of space for 3 roms in /system.
If you want to root secondary ROM and flash patched magiskv12.
7) Select your secondary ROM in ROM list and reboot.
Steps to be followed on Secondary Rom
8) Install Dual Boot Patcher.
9) Install MagiskManager.apk (see attachment)
10) Open Magisk Manager
11) Go to Modules-> press "+" button -> search for Magisk_v15.3.zip -> hold your finger on it -> press "Open". Wait for installation end. Now press close button. Don't restart
12) Open Dual Boot Patcher -> confirm for change current kernel
13) Reboot and voila! You have fully working secondary ROM with Magisk!
FAQ's (FAQ)
Do I need to wipe again for third or next rom?
No, wiping is only required for one time, you can flash as many roms(your device can handle) after that.
Switch the ROM if something doesn't work properly?
You can flash the DualBootUtilities zip from recovery. It will provide a menu interface that allows switching to the various ROMs.
If you have TWRP, you can also switch manually by tapping Install -> Images (bottom right) -> Go to /sdcard/MultiBoot/[Your ROM]/ -> flash boot.img.
Wipe /cache, /data, /system, or dalvik-cache?
The easiest way is to do it from the app while booted in another ROM. Just go to "Roms" in the navigation drawer, tap the 3 dots options menu for the ROM you want to wipe, and tap "Wipe ROM".
NOTE: Don't use the recovery's built-in wiping abilities as that may delete non-primary ROMs!
Update the primary ROM?
Patch the zip for primary and flash it. The "primary" installation target is designed so that other ROMs won't be affected when you want to flash something for the primary ROM.
Update a non-primary ROM?
Patch and flash the zip exactly like how you did it the first time.
Flash a mod or custom kernel for the primary ROM?
Patch it for primary before flashing. If the zip does not wipe /cache, it is also safe to flash it directly.
Flash a mod or custom kernel for a non-primary ROM?
Just patch and flash it
Note:
You must always select 'Data-slots' as installation location for secondary roms on Redmi Note 4x. You can also use 'Extsd-slots' if you want to install on external storage.
If your using MIUI (Multirom, Xiaomi.eu, etc), you may need to enable documents app by going to Settings> Installed Apps before trying to patch any file in DBP.
Don't use official MIUI as primary rom.
If you're not able to boot, your phone vibrates 5 times and then reboot to TWRP after installing secondary rom, it might be that your data partition is encrypted. To fix this follow the instructions below:
First backup all your data including Internal Storage, then boot to TWRP>WIPE>FORMAT DATA then type 'yes' and tap enter. Now reboot and retry DBP.

I just tried last 5 days. When I choose second rom and reboot, it goes into recovery. Can't boot up second rom. Renew primary rom, wipe data and try dbp again and again. But not successed. Now my primary rom is Los 14.1 and trying second rom as miui global dev rom 8.1.11. Please help me.

Yes , this tool working great , my problem is known to roms .
Patch roms and files in data slot not secondary slot in which is only one room can boot as secondary. Data slot for multiple roms flashing. And I never update ramdisk which leads to boot into recovery instead of system .
What's the use of dualboot we have only two ROMs to download.. Lol!
Now we should have at least two stable roms to taste this

Twrp >> wipe >> format data..
And it's ok now. ??
when patching the primary rom (update ramdisk)it reboots to recovery after the vibrations
didn't install any secondery roms -- yet
primary : MIUI globeROM 7.12.21
app version : 9.3.0.r327.gb3914310-snapshot
if it's relevant > i have magisk 15.3 --magisk edits the boot.img > may the issue be related to that ? was i supposed to remove magisk before? magisk in not the problem > i tried with original boot, img with supersu
edit : also i remember formatting the data before flashing this rom .. wil i have to reformat ?! >>>>> seems that miui encrypts the data with every flash !!
edit 2: i skipped ramdisk update for the primary rom and flashed a secondery rom in /system -- so .. is it the format issue ? if i format now will i have to reformat everytime i flash a rom ?? bcoz i clearly remember formatting before installing this primary rom
edit3 : problem solved with formating data again !!
DON'T set lock screen !!
you will end up locked away from your primary rom
----------
in my case the primary was globerom and secondary was lineage os
---------
if you already locked from your rom you can boot twrp and open terminal and write
cd data/system
rm *.key
and reboot

Good that you solved it. But for your knowledge and to any user: updating RAMDISK is not necessary. It's necessary only for "App sharing" feature, but I don't recommend it because it causes sometimes bootloops on secondary ROM. Even even creator of DualBoot patcher said it may be unstable.

Thanks for mention me in your thread, but remove that line, it will cause bootloop. First you need to patch Magisk_v12.zip and install it, then install latest Magisk_v15.3.zip as a module in MagiskManager. Like I wrote in my guide

Thanks mario_R for the guide and trick. I did it hassle free as I already had my internal decrypted. But I noticed some people having problem with installation.
it worked and the 2nd rom booted correctly then i added magisk 15.3 and set kernel .. the next boot the phone boots to the primary rom and stuck at bootanimation
when checking from recovery it appears that data partition cant be read and twrp asks for password
i managed to format and restore a backup
but what exactly caused this ??
app share have a high chance of breaking secondery rom

- Since I was on MIUI 12.0.2, I've downloaded and flashed MIUI 12.0.3 (the one linked before, recovery version). Although I did flash it, I didn't boot up the phone, nor did go through setup wizard. I just rebooted back to TWR
- Performed Data format (advanced wipe - selected only "Data")
- flashed LOS
- format Dalvik/Cache
- Reboot
Could the issue be not going through first-boot setup after flashing to MIUI 12.0.3? Also, I'm trying to boot my phone on this MIUI right now, but it is definitely stuck on MIUI logo. I guess I screwed up big time.

MIUI should normally boot. Maybe you can try the MIUI fastboot rom.

The thing is, you went to advanced wipe and only picked "Data" only... If you do advanced wipe... You have to also choose "Internal," both "Cache's"and "System". It's easier to just go to "Wipe" press the "Format data" option and type in "yes".
Plus.... when coming from another Miui Rom, you have to wipe everything from the wipe options written above.
So do that.. and then follow the steps below.
-Reboot to TWRP (in case your PC does not see your phone connected to load 12.0.3.0).
-Then load the 12.0.3.0 full rom, flash... "format data option", type in "yes"...
-Reboot to TWRP again.....
-And then flash Lineage, GAPPS and the latest Magisk 21.1.. and reboot "System".
Now if it doesn't come through.. flash 20.4 Magisk first, reboot to TWRP.. flash 21.1 Magisk and reboot "System".

what do you mean by this step " vb_beta stuff if coming from MIUI"?
After flashing is error "failed to mount /data (no such file or directory)"
edit: That one solved by installing newest twrp 3.4.2b-0623
ROM is botting even after that error, but is stuck on picking wifi or 4g.

Hi all,
I want to try this ROM. I'm on Xiaomi.eu 12.2.2
It is possible to do a Nandroid backup (With TWRP) before flashing Project 404 AND be able to restore the xiaomi.eu ROM if Project 404 don't match my expectancy ?
Ok, trying to flash since 2 hours. I'm on TWRP 3.4.2b-1206
3 errors while flashing
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
....
Failed to mount '/vendor' (invalid argument)
Failed to mount '/odm' (invalid argument)
Getting sick of it.

Hey man, keep pushing! I spent almost 5 hours on this, but the payoff of getting AOSP on my Mi 10 was well worth it Here's the steps I took. I was coming from MIUI Global which is still on Android 10, so you can skip to Step 7:
1. Download the latest MIUI China Fastboot ROM: https://xiaomirom.com/en/rom/mi-10-...overy-rom/#download-mi-10-stable-fastboot-rom
2. Connect your phone to your PC
3. Put your phone into fastboot mode by holding Vol up + Power until it reboots
4. Extract the downloaded MIUI rom twice (first one is a tgz, second is a tar).
5. Run the flash_all.bat. Let it run for a while
6. Boot into MIUI and finish setup
7. Download this TWRP (MUST be this one, since we're flashing Android 11): https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=10763459528675582373
8. Extract the .7z archive with 7zip, and enter the directory until you see fastboot.exe and recovery.img
9. Without anything in that folder selected, press SHIFT+Right Click in any blank space in the folder to open up the context menu, and choose Open PowerShell window here.
10. Put your phone into Fastboot mode
11. Run the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery .\recovery.img
fastboot boot .\recovery.img
11.5 If your TWRP is in Chinese, choose the 3rd option in the 2nd column, then choose the globe icon, select English, and then tap the button in the bottom right corner to change the language.
12. Go to Wipe > Format Data. Type 'yes' and let it do its thing. Go back to the Wipe menu and do a Factory Reset wipe.
13. Go to Reboot > Reboot to Recovery. Your phone should reboot back to TWRP
14. Go to Install. You should see a TWRP folder there. This means your data partition is working fine without encryption.
15. Place your ROM (Project 404 in this case) and Magisk onto the internal storage
16. Flash ROM. Should go ahead without a hitch now since you're on the correct TWRP version.
17. Wipe Dalvik/Cache.
18. Go to Reboot > Reboot to Recovery
19. Go to Wipe > Flash Magisk
20. DO NOT WIPE DALVIK/CACHE. Just reboot to system.
21. It should boot up now
Damn, what an amazing reply ! You should be in the first post of this topic !
I bricked 3 times my phone yesterday, finaly I could revive it but I spent 8 hours on working on this phone. I think i'm maybe too stupid for this. If I had your tutorial yesterday, be sure I would try it !

Nice! This seems interesting.
Thanks for your work.
Bugs that i note ambiente display dont work, double tap sensor funciona dont work
Thanks for this rom
This is the first miui 12.... rom that don,t incrypt my phone after a first boot
Is there maybe any new Ported from Mi 10 Lite rom ?
Can anyone help i can't understand ?
i flashed twrp with universal dm verity
then i wipe dalvik/art cache / system /data /vendor
then i format using format data by typing yes
then i copy custom rom either in internal storage or usb otg
then i flash the rom
then clean dalvik cache
then i format typing yes
then reboot to system
it erases my custom rom and reboot to recovery in case of miui 12.5 android 11
but incase of lineage os 18 it does not and boots in os perfectly
can anyone tell why?
also why it is not installing in system partition rather on the internal storage
i am using redmi note 4
rom: MIUI_GLOBAL_HMNOTE4_12.5.9.0-11
Note:why i need factory reset is to encrypt to use banking and fintech apps
factory reset enables encryption after installing
but if i not do the factory reset the does not encrypt in anyway but rom works

I strictly followed your suggested procedure but still it is not booting into os rather miui logo flashes for 5 mins then it reboots to recovery. Can you please explain what i am doing wrong or may be it is due to rom designed to be create a partition on mobile sd ext memory (not external sd card) and not on system? These are my initial observation.

Which twrp you're using?
If newest then I suggest to start from scratch with stock ROM and flashing via miflash (don't relock bootloader)
twrp-3.6.0_9-0-mido twrp i am using
start from scratch ? Can you suggest which stock rom should i use and why not use twrp?
I think it is the feature of rom to force encryption on device rather then a recovery tool. But i will try as you said.
Thank you for replying to my query. Wishing you a Happy and joyous New year.

Which recovery have to use?
@Murad Ali Perhaps it would be a good idea to correct the first post? The installation steps do not apply to this ROM at all, since it's a fastboot ROM...
@prashant.palange None. As mentioned above, it is a fastboot ROM. It's installed via fastboot (so needs PC) and includes two batch files for installation. If coming from a stable MiuiMix ROM version, you can use the "update" one, if from weekly (or if you want to do a clean install anyway), then use the "install with data format" one, but bear in mind this one (quite obviously) formats your data partition INCLUDING internal storage, so backup everything you want to keep beforehand.

good but this is not fastboot file. regular zip.
@Murad Ali The link in your post leads to the fastboot install .zip archive you get from official MiuiMix sources (it's literally the same link). It even says "fastboot" right there in the archive filename. It is not a ROM that installs via recovery, because there is no fully working recovery for Android 12. You unpack the zip on a PC and install the ROM via fastboot (which is even included in the archive, along with the installation batch files, so the installation is as straightforward as possible).
I'm frankly kinda surprised you seem to have no idea what you have linked here (and made a thread for).

sorry i am not a developer. I liked and shared the rom, if there is a mistake it will be corrected. Also, the link says it's a fastboot rom.
@Murad Ali Well, like I already said, there's indeed a mistake, in that basically the entire first post with all the info on how to flash the ROM is wrong. Pretty much none of what is mentioned there applies, it's all meant for a recovery ROM update, whereas this one is a fasboot ROM update.
Here's what the second part of the first post should look like (for example - feel free to use it if you want):
Pre-requisities:
Unlocked bootloader
PC with unpacked contents of the .zip archive you've downloaded, including folder structure (important)
Custom recovery is not needed for this ROM! You will not be using it at all! At the time of this writing, there is no fully working Android 12 custom recovery, none of them can decrypt an encrypted data partition. If you have custom recovery currently installed on your phone, it will however not be affected by the ROM install/update procedure (but it will still not be able to decrypt an encrypted data partition).
Clean Flash (If you are installing from scratch, coming from another ROM or you are changing between stable and weekly builds):
Backup all the data from your phone you don't want to lose, including the internal storage (photos, messages e.g.) The install process will do a complete wipe of your data including your internal storage! (External SD should be fine.)
Boot your phone into fastboot (bootloader) mode
Connect the phone to PC (make sure you have the correct drivers installed for fastboot mode)
Run the "fastboot_first_install_with_data_format" script/batch for your platform (windows/linux/macos).
The ROM will now be flashed to the phone automatically and then a factory reset of your phone will be done.
You are done. Your phone should now reboot into your new ROM. (First boot may take up to 5-10 min.)
Updating coming from a previous version of the rom (This includes coming from a MIUI 12/A11 stable version of the MiuiMix ROM. Dirty flash, only stable over stable or weekly over weekly. Never weekly over stable or vice versa.):
(Optional) Backup all the data from your phone you don't want to lose, including the internal storage (photos, messages e.g.) - This is not required for update, you should not lose anything, but it's a good safe practice anyway.
Boot your phone into fastboot (bootloader) mode
Connect the phone to PC (make sure you have the correct drivers installed for fastboot mode)
Run the "fastboot_update_rom" script/batch for your platform (windows/linux/macos).
The ROM will now be updated on your phone automatically.
You are done. Your phone should now reboot into your updated ROM. (First boot may take up to 5-10 min.)
It is recommended to deactivate ALL magisk modules before updating.

Hello friends, I really apreciate this ROM but I have a problem... not only with this ROM, but with all Xiaomi ROMs...
I'm a tester, I like to test a lot of aplications, ROMs, anything. Of course, I need a system backup in case something goes wrong... But I cannot backup in custom recovery (TWRP or OrangeFox) because Data partition cannot be mounted, it shows "0 MB"...
I tried everything found on google but nothing works... the same 0 MB data partition... I even tried this in fastboot:
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
but powershell or cmd shows "--disable-verity unrecognized option"
Please, can anybody help me? Thank you.

In twrp and ofox it's not possible.
You have to be encrypted to do that in Recovery with android A12 , I think also in A11.
But I'll think you can do it if booted and rooted with alphabackup

Thank you @Laptapper, I tried a custom ROM, crDroid with A12 and it works... I can backup/restore everything... with MIUI ROMs doesn't work.
@Hellera Those ROMs likely don't use encrypted data partition (which is a security risk). If you disable any screen locks you might have in your MIUI ROM, you should be able to see and use the data partition just fine (I did that with TWRP 3.6 and MiuiMix 13.0.2). However, whether or not you will be able to correctly backup and (more importantly) restore a ROM like that to a working state in case you need to has to be tested more.
Also once you set up a screen lock again, the data partition gets encrypted again.

@Case_ I never use any screen locks and I'm on MiuiMix 13.0.2, twrp and ofox doesn't see data partition, 0 MB... I think is about the android version 12... with version 12.5.7 android 11 I had not such problems... Is frustrating...
@Hellera Well, like I said, for me disabling fingerprint and PIN worked on MiuiMix 13.0.2. I guess there are more reasons why the data partition might stay encrypted even if you disable any screen locks.
