Question [CLOSED]Hardware test - ASUS ZenFone 8

Does anyone know how to access the hardware test? On some previous models you used the calculator and entered 12345+=, but this doesn't work on my Zenphone 8.

Yes, another member of the board (@jfgt7j8qgx ) pointed this out in another thread You almost had it right, but you forgot a dot before the 1. So the combination is .12345+=

Thanks! I can now access the hardware test.
To test the rear cameras a picture has to be taken of a specific QR Code. Any idea where this is available?

I was wondering the same thing but could not find anything except for an instruction for a hardware test for an Asus notebook, where a QR code was provided as a link to the support team (I think).
Source is in German, though:

Is it possible to access the hardware tests if using another ROM (AospExtended for example)?

Hitachi G1000

Is there any hope in installing the pocket pc editions found here (without the radio Stack) on my G1000. It is based on the same software as the XDA but I don't even know how to get it into the bootloader mode. IT would seem since it was alsoo PPC Telephone Edition it should work? I would be happy to provide whatever support I can
Thanks
Guy
Unlikely: the peripherals are different, and it's likely the hardware is not identical enough. If you can get a ROM image you may be able to use (a modified version of) splitrom, mkrom and our other tools to modify your ROM though.

Google Camera Question

Is this apk just for the Pixel phone?

I just downloaded the gcam for the snapdragon variant.
In the future, the gcam port is dependenant on the phone it's intended for, otherwise you need to adjust the settings manually.id highly suggest not touching ANY settings in the camera app that are in the " settings" menu. You can change the camera modes and stuff but don't touch the settings menu.
As for whitch version to download, any gcam that is in red and Bold is a stable working non beta version.

Yes I did. You told me what you did, what I should do, gave me a couple links to sites...but you never answered the question. Yes or No would have been sufficient since I know all the other stuff already. I just wanted to know if that link was just for the Pixel, since the article didn't make that clear.
BTW, I have changed many of the settings (as suggested when they came out) in earlier versions to get them to work.
Thanks anyway.
So can anyone point me to the correct gcam for my Note 9 Snapdragon? I assume the latest and greatest Google cam port is pretty much install and use as is? I'm seeing several in Red and bold.. Haven't been keeping up lately. Thanks

And these are the kind of pics it produces (just took this a minute ago).
Everyone says you make no adjustments to the settings, yet unless I'm living on Venus, green pics are not what I want.

that may be but i wonder if the gcam port for SD devices has a hidden load config file menu for .xml profiles like the exynos gcam port has.
i guess only you may be able to check it out.

I have a snapdragon, and the gcam port I listed works perfect on my device. Not sure why it's giving the usual green tint problems with k. The one I linked to has the settings baked into it so it's load and go.

AFAIK, it's integrated with Call Screen. Now, the option to view the transcript or hear audio displays, where just the transcript was available before. If you don't have call screen working , you cannot view transcripts or listen to audio. If you do and pick the call up, both transcript and audio do not continue. If you are talking about recording a live conversation, I have not seen that option in v.44 nor was I aware that was planned. Did you get call screen working?

Unfortunately we aren't going to get a guide on how to enable this. It's the same case with the new file sharing (air-drop equivalent) that was "hactivated" a few days ago. It was deemed to be pointless to share how we can all get these features by the guys that figured out how to enable them. AKA they have no intention on spreading the wealth with us, so we have to just wait for Google to drop these features.

It indeed does. Let me just state that what I said was not my opinion or my thoughts, it was from one of the guys that helped figure out how to enable these. I tried appealing to him about how many of us actually can benefit from him sharing knowledge of how to enable these but I didn't get responded to. All in all, they are the ones that put the work in to figure these out, so they definitely have the right to not share if they so please. I just hope they either change their minds or someone else figures this out and decides to share with us. I've been putting a little work in here and there when I have time and have found some potentially promising leads bit we will see.

Question Asus Stock Camera App, Please !

Hi XDA,
Can anyone please pull the stock Asus Zenfone8 app(as an .apk) so we can use it on custom ROMs ?
I compared the stock Asus camera app with all availabe apps before installing the LineageOS and the difference is huge, specially comparing it to the OpenCamera.
The stock app is way better.
I wish I can have it on my LineageOS now
Appreciate your help so much!
I have attached the extracted APK here, I hope it works!:

Was it taken directly from the Zenfone8 ?

Yes, I got it directly from my phone. I extracted it with an adb command. It was my first time doing that so I don't know if I did it properly

Well, I was hoping it was some kind of img file. But it's a zip with a .bin file. Not a clue as to what I can do with that. Would be great to get the stock camera. The Lineage camera really sucks and I cannot get any of the gcam versions to work either...
If that helps, I was able to get OK results on the stock ROM from the GrapheneOS Camera app. You can get it from their github repository. Note that it is very basic and lacks any night mode or any kind of special features. Also I just noticed that it does not offer the option of switching lenses. Maybe it is possible but I didn't search on that subject. Here are some comparison images

Hi, I tested it as well and had no sucess. As a developer I also tried to unpack the apk and take a look, imeediatly noticed that it has some google dependencies which in my case a LineageOS with no google will not work, as well I saw some properties and configurations files so maybe these has some data related to the phone of the good guy who ported it out.
The stock camera app is way better than the most famous free camera apps out there, specially in night photography, the OpenCamera for example leaves you night photos so so noisy and it sets the screen brightness on max with no way to change that (not that I know).
Lets please keep this thread running to find out the best camera for this phone with AOSP and no google dependneces.
Tested the Witchaya Port of GCam yesterday. No luck with Version 8 (just crashes), but Version 7 first seemed to run. Yet it freezes the captured image constantly after 3 seconds. Tapping onto a different camera mode wakes the image again for 3 seconds - just to freeze again afterwards. Tried all of the supplied xml config files - no success. I'm running on latest LineageOS nightly without the GApps...
I believe if a good developer can take a look at the stock Asus app and figure out why it doesn't work.
Maybe it's just a deal of adjusting some configuration file.
On another thread, what's the best free Camera app you're using ?
I'm using the OpenCamera since it has lots of options, but its photo quality is not the best and night shoots are so noisy.
Asus camera is dependant of asus framework . Most likely nogo to get it to run on non as roms.
Its not as simple as config files, it much deeper integrated in asus framework

Any news regarding cam so far? Been fiddling around with opencamera and the lineageOS cam, but the results are rather disappointing.
Would appreciate any further development in this case.
Thanks, happy new year!

Same exact situation here
Just gave the GrapheneOS camera app a try, it looks more promising, hope they will keep on upgrading it.
I raised an issue for supporting the ultra-wide lens as well, hope they will work on it.
It's good to keep an eye on this app, thanks to @Adaoh for mentioning it.

Nice hint, thank you! Just installed it, seems to work fine except for the ultra-wide lens, as you mentioned already.
I have tried OmniRom, and it has an Asus camera port that works I will be asking the maintainer if he is fine with me sharing the APK.

Yeah they warned me about that on the OmniRom telegram group, a friend tested on his Pixel 4a and it worked, so I assumed it would have worked on ZF8
