Stuck in bootloop after system update error - Samsung Galaxy M21 Questions & Answers

My dad switched off his phone in the middle of an update by mistake and now the phone is stuck in a weird bootloop.
The phone starts up with no problem but when I unlock the screen, it shows 'Starting Android' and then 'Installing applications' and then reboots. If I don't unlock the screen, it doesn't reboot and can receive calls. I can swipe down and enter settings menu but for a few seconds before it reboots.
Is there a way to fix this without a firmware flash or factory reset? I need to save the data in the phone.
Edit: I've already tried switching off the phone and turning it on, using safe mode and wiping cache partition

Damn, even this did not fix it.

Does it reboot at the same point every time or is it random?

Bricked device

I'm a newbie here and doesn't followed correctly steps for install a theme, so it's completely my fault. Now, I need somebody to help me recovering my device.
I tried to install this theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808013
I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551156 I've rooted the device and applied the instructions for "ClockWorkMod Recovery 5 - for use in future custons rom or partial back-up.-" but then, here is when I do wrong, I went to boot recovery mode (not CWM) > apply patch/update and selected the theme zip. Since then, every time I boot the device, it shows me 2 errors: the status bar process has stopped - And then the screen goes black and return again with the same error. At least it loads the background and icons of the main screen.
The device doesn't ask me for the password before the errors prompt. My device has the stock rom.
Can I fix it with recovery boot > wipe data/factory reset?

Yeah from what you are describing you can 100% fix it. However if you didn't make a backup of any sort then you will need to reinstall your firmware with ODIN3 v3.07. Go to the same thread that you got ClockWorkMod Recovery from and download Odin from there. Then download the latest firmware for your country/region from here (you have to change the country to your own one in the drop down menu and sign up to download files which is free).
Make sure you download firmware for S5830i ONLY whatever you do! Wipe all user data in recovery just to avoid any further hiccups. Then put your phone in Download Mode (Power + VolUP + VolDown when switched off), connect it the PC and open Odin. Use the PDA section ONLY to put the tar.md5 firmware file in. DO NOT use a PIT file and do not tick any other options than the two default ones (Auto Reboot and FReset Time I think). Just follow that to the letter and once ODIN is done, it will almost definitely be back to normal again.
By the way also make sure you run Odin as administrator and that Kies is not running because they don't agree with each other.
I've downloaded the lastest firmware for my country (s8530i, Spain, November) and now Odin looks like this: i.imgur.com /rZ76d.png (no 10 posts yet, sorry)
I've got the device connected via USB and awaiting in odin mode "product name, custom bin, current bin, etc) "Downloading..." message. Should I use the entry "Wipe data/restore factory" from the recovery boot first?
Now, is everything ok, do I press start?
Very nearly but Odin hasn't recognised your phone yet. Basically you see where it says "ID:Com" with 8 grey boxes above the writing, well when Odin has made a connection with your phone one of those boxes should light up and something like COM:1-9 (number isn't important) will be displayed inside the box.
You probably need to install Samsung Kies (search for it on Google) which comes with the USB driver needed for Odin and then it should work. But as I said just make sure you actually kill/terminate Kies from Windows Task Manager before using Odin. If you've already installed Kies sometimes it's just being a pain in the backside, unplug the phone, pull the battery out, reinsert it, put the phone back in Download mode, reboot your PC, hopefully that should do it.
Everything else in your screenshot is absolutely fine. You don't have to Wipe Data before doing it, I usually do it because sometimes it can cause issues. In the worst case you might have to do it afterwards.
Sorry, my fault. The device wasn't plugged. Now it looks like this i.imgur.com /HJz3B.png
Done, device working, thank you very much and sorry for the trouble.
No trouble just press thanks button if I helped though please.

Help with Factory Reset / New PIN entered and forgotten (xperia T)

Hi Folks,
I'm wondering if you could help me please? I myself am pretty familiar with Android, but my missus has an Xperia T which is very alien to me. For instance, finding it has no stock recovery confuses me massively.
We wiped the phone whilst troubleshooting a speaker issue. Once it was set up again, she wanted to change the lockscreen photo. I advised it was probably in the Security menu. I didn't realise this, but she had never known it had PIN lock built in, so she decided to set it and promptly forgot it.
I have been searching the internet for a solution as well as Q&A here. I found in the sticky threads that I could reset it by booting into flash mode and installing flashtool, however the links there and in another thread to flashtool are both dead.
I also found that it could be done by the Sony update service, but this is no longer supported and has been replaced with PC companion - which doesn't seem to do what I want.
I'm not bothered about the data. I moved everything to the external Sdcard before wiping the first time. Can anyone please advise how I can factory reset the phone that I cannot unlock? It's completely stock, unrooted etc
From reading around, am I right in thinking if I can get into fastboot, adb works from there on this phone (unlike others)? If so I will just delete the lock code from the database if it's easier.
Any advise is gratefully received.
Dan
Step 1: Download Flashtool: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Step 2: Download an appropriate Firmware in the FTF format from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648320
I would suggest to use the same version, which is installed on your phone.
Step 3: Ensure the driver for the phone is installed and works correctly.
Step 5: In Flashtool, select the lightning "Flash device", then Flashmode. Select your Firmware. As I don't know, where Android stores the information about the lockscreen, you have a bit to experiment. For sure it will work, if you wipe everything and flash every SIN File. But maybe you can save the DATA, therefore uncheck the DATA box at the WIPE section and exclude PARTITION.
Step 6: Click the flash button and turn off your phone. If you connect it via USB to your PC, press immediately POWER + VOLUME DOWN. The notification LED turns green and the flash process begins.

PS: I have the phone since one year, but I still don't fully understand the recovery system. Usually there is a recovery partition, but the Xperia T hasn't one. It is somehow connected with the kernel image ... still confusing.

Thanks, I'll give it a go.
Lockscreen should be in /data/system/locksettings.db, locksettings.db-shm, locksettings.db-wal

HERE : i think this will help you out , but be patience and use common sense when rooting also I AM JUST HERE TO HELP , so DO NOT BLAME ME IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE , BUT I CAN SAY THAT IF YOU FOLLOW STEPS YOU WON`T HAVE ANY TROUBLE,
DO DOWNLOAD ESSENTIALS BEFORE FOLLOWING STEPS, FIRTS READ ALL THEN MAKE YOU MIND HOW TO DO IT :
1: ORIGINAL FIRMWARE FROM HERE you will need it to extract original kernel after rooting, or if something goes wrong when rooting
2: SAMSUNG USB DRIVER FOR WIN/MAC.
Make sure that you have backup the data, apps and settings from your Samsung device such as SMS, MMS, Call Logs, Contacts, Images, Audios, Videos, Bookmarks, Wi-Fi, APN settings and MMS settings etc as this process is going to wipe every data from your device.
3. Check of security suites such as antivirus and firewall whether they are disabled on your Computer.
4. You need to turn on the Enable USB Debugging on your Samsung Galaxy S i9070. This can be done simply by following the path ‘Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging’ and ticking the USB Debugging option box.
5. Please put your battery in charge and make sure that it was charged to at least 80%.
Advice: Before going to start the root process you must go to phone settings->click about phone and look for basedband version number. Note down that number in notepad and save it on the desktop.
Steps and Procedure for Rooting Samsung Galaxy S Advance I9070:
1. Download working ODIN FROM HERE AND Working root package only I9070 from attachement to PC.
2. Once you have downloaded the file, then you need to extract the zip file in the PC.
3. After extraction is done.
4. Launch the Odin application in the computer.
5. Turn off the device in order to enter into download mode. For that do like this press and hold the Volume Down + Home buttons together and Power On the device simultaneously. After 1 min you will get a download mode with green android robot image.
6. Connect your device to the Computer via USB data cable while Odin is open. Once your device get connected, ID:COM section turns yellow in colour. If it doesn’t than you need to reconnect your device.
7. In Odin tool you need to two select two files into their respective fields.
NOW YOU WIL ALSO BE NEEDING A PIT FILE , i have attached both version 8gb and 16 gb PIT FILE choose from there if 8gb then 8gb and vice-versa
8.Click PIT tab and then select the GT-I9070_EUR_XX_8G/16GB.pit file from the extracted folder.
Once you selected the file left side Re-partition filed will be tick marked automatically. So you need to uncheck it manually. For more idea see the below picture.
b) Click PDA section and then select the rootkernel.tar.md5.
c) You need to uncheck all other option except ‘Auto Reboot’ and ‘F Reset Time’.
Click on ‘Start’ button and wait for the process to get completed. The Samsung Galaxy S device will reboot automatically.
9. Now you must try to install Superuser and Busybox from Google Play Store . Once you installed both apps then your device will be rooted successfully. check using root checker app.
Time to switch back to stock original kernel basedband firmware version number. Because above we used kernel for rooting the device have some problems like sudden reboots and lags. So that you need to install exact kernel to the device again. BUT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO ALL THAT , JUST INSTALL ANY CUSTOM ROM / CM11 /cm10 etc ,which has tuned own kernel you will not be needing any of this in the follwoing steps.
HERE READ THIS XDA FORUM TO EXTRACT YOUR ORIGINAL FIRMWARE KERNEL
AFTER THAT AGAIN FOLLOW STEPS
1. Run the Odin application again in the PC.
2.Turn off the device and Boot into Download mode. For that press and hold the Volume Down + Home buttons together and Power On the device.
3. Connect the device to PC via USB cable.
4. Click on PDA tab and select the file which you downloaded recently. I selected (YOURKERNEL).tar.md5 .
5. Click on Start and the process will be completed. The device will be reboot automatically.
That’s it your device is rooted perfectly without any problems. In case if you find any issues with above procedure comment here:good:

How did you lose it? Because updating to 6.0.1 is not how this happened.
Please share some details - how did you buy the phone, who is your sim card operator, where are you located, and what did you do before you started seeing this error? Also did you contact ATT or Samsung?
This error message is usually caused by a sim card problem. Visit your dealer and get it replaced.

I bought this phone from the second hand website. When I first tried the phone for a week, it was normal without any error.
Then, I saw this website: https://mega.nz/#F!lJQj3JyR!Jky5Fhv0HySHIizJK-K1CA
This website can root my mobile which is for 5.1.1
I have followed these steps but then my phone was in reactivation lock.
I have tried so many methods to unlock it.
I paid for someone to control my computer to unlock it. It was successful.
After unlocked the phone, it was under the situation of losing IMEI.
I had not checked it after unlocked and updated it to 6.0 immediately.
Someone said that he could help me to rewrite it but he could only help me if I go to his place.
However, I am living in Hong Kong that I could not leave to find him.
This phone cannot be rooted.
I had called internet service centre to help me, but they said that it had been out of their service area.
Although they told me to go to their shop to ask for help, my phone is second hand.
I am afriad that they would not help me.
Do you have any other methods to help me?

This problem is very common when updating/flashing roms using recovery. It happend a couple of times on my old galaxy s3. Becouse we dont have CWM or TWRP yet to backup EFS partitions (that is where IMEI is stored) before flashing/updating,there is only one solution to this problem. And it has only 50% chance to work. You must flash original stock firmware using Odin(old one, before you updated to 6.0,for you that is 5.1.1).This will wipe your phone and every data you have on it, so backup your data.
Here you can download firmware.First one is very slow, dont know for second.
https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G890A/region/ATT/
or
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-G890A
Step 1) Turn OFF your mobile and go to Download Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Home Buttosn together for few seconds followed by Power button then proceed with volume up.
Step 2) Now open ODIN on your PC and connect your Galaxy to your computer.
Step 3) Once your phone is successfully connected to your PC, the ID:COM box on ODIN will turn yellow and will show the COM port number.
Step 4) unzip the downloaded firmware, u will get a tar file.
Step 5) click on AP in Odin and choose the file ".tar"
Step 6) check "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options and make sure that "Re-Partition" is unchecked
!!!!DO NOT CHECK "Nand Erase All" IN ANY WAY!!!!
Step 7) Click on Start button in ODIN window to start the flashing process. The process will take few minutes to complete.
DO NOT UNPLUG USB CABLE WHILE EXECUTING THE PROCESS, YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE!
Step 8) When the installation is completed, you read a "Reset " then a "Pass". your phone will restart (first boot will take a longer time so don't panic)
It is recommended to make hard reset after flashing to have a fresh official firmware
I hope this solves your problem, if it doesnt,im very sory, but i belive there is nothing you can do.(for now)

Thanks for your help, I tried but this method is not successful

Question Bricked S21 Ultra while debloating

Hi. Any help will be appreciated. English is not my primary language. Thanks in advance.
S21 Ultra - G998B/DS, exynos version, CSC: SIN
Bootloader unlocked, rooted with flashing Magisk following xda tread in this forum. Worked great by the way.
All was great, but wanted to debloat. Did remove a few samsung app, one at the time with titanium. Had bixby error message popping up, so decide to do a normal healthy reboot.
The phone did not reboot normally, instead got stock in a boot-loop. No problem , just need to reset in recovery. Went in recovery (the basic recovery, as no TWRP recovery installed yet, just flashed Magisk) and wipe/reset the phone. Battery full. End up in emergency recovery page. Can only go in Download mode. Cannot go in recovery mode. I probably miss a step but too late...
I have read quite a lot on this great forum.
Tried: smart switch and emergency recuperation tool: app do not see my phone. (changed cable, reinstalled drivers, tried on a different pc).
Tried: flashing stock firmware with Odin3. Used Frija to download firmware. Odin3 v3.14 and patched Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_patched keep failing. They can see the COM4, load BL, AP, CP, HOME_CSC, remove reboot option, start, initiate the transfer: setup connection takes forever, then red Failed and general error message: All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1).
What else can I try? Is it time to play with the PIT file?
Thanks in advance.
Freezing should be no problem. For the record I disabled 102 system apps w/ ADB and the phone is running fine.
However if you 'uninstalled' those apps then a factory reset should fix it but you've not had any luck.
Odin3 should work, I'm guessing the image you used was incorrect or old and wouldn't allow a downgrade of some sort - bootloader perhaps?
I'm afraid I have no recent Odin experience (Since S2 days) so unable to advise further
Thanks. I'll definitively freeze before uninstalling next time...
Which firmware should I choose? The most upto date or an older one? I did put the correct info in Frija. Maybe it it realated to the dual sim card? Now I can't do the 1234 dial trick to double check the CSC info. Any other way to find this information?
Thanks again for your help
Did you resolve your issue?
Finally yes: succes this morning!
Initially I used what I though was the proper CSC code and tried to flash 2 versions of firmware
- SM-G998B_1_20210320150736_d41ej45waz_fac
- SM-G998B_1_20210501173536_4trvemv8wm_fac
without success.
Using the CSC: XSP code I just flashed: SM-G998B_1_20210503154836_fmp3ozo5m3_fac and Odin3 went through with the very welcome green "pass" at the end, though the phone stayed in download mode at the end. Had to shut down with vol down and lateral button, then restart to the normal boot and welcome process.
I'm still not sure why the CSC code was so important.
Maybe it is more related to the fact that I tried to perform the flash in Odin quickly as I read that there was sometime a timeout problem if someone took too long between the opening of Odin and the actual start of the flashing process?
I will now have to check again the process of rooting I guess and I'll freeze bloatware instead on uninstalling them.
You guys are going too far with the debloating.
I have a US straight-from-Samsung unlocked S21U.
I uninstalled/disabled whatever the system would let me.
I removed permissions from all the other apps I didn't like: Bixby Voice and some others.
Then, I put in dns.adguard.com under Secure DNS in settings.
My system is about as clean as you can get now.
I have the 12GB RAM version and even under high work loads, I still have about 3GB of RAM free all the time. That should help future-proof the device.
Not that RAM used is a useful indicator these days.
