General X70 pro+ with Origin OS—Initial Review - Vivo X70 Pro+

A Happy New Year to everyone!
Today, when I received the first upgrade of Ocean OS (for Chinese model V2145A) I was thinking, maybe it's time for a little evaluation of the phone.
First thing first: why the Chinese X70 pro+?
It's not the money. After a bad experience with Trading Shengzheng which delayed the purchase for one month, I bought the phone from Wondamobile, but time was not on my side anymore. Weakened € comparing to $ and high demand for the phone drove the price up, and I paid over €1000.
So why the Chinese one? I needed a new phone and I didn't want to wait anymore, besides the global phone was not a reality, even the Indian one was vague at that time. And I really like Chinese phones, this is not my first Vivo, and before I was a lot on Huawei. They usually offer so much versatility and when you get the hang of Chinese configuration you can really make a phone the western one. And talking about the bloatware, a lot of western made phones are massively contaminated too.
Why Vivo?
I'm a kind of character that cares about freedom, I don't want the technical equipment to dictate me configuration, I want to configure my phone myself as I pleased. I started with Motorola when it was a US company, switched to Huawei after its decomposition and finally found a new company giving me enough space about customization in Vivo. Even their Chinese models obviously adapted to Chinese market are open enough and enable customization beyond any other models I've tried, and believe me, I've seen and tried a lot.
Not to mention the perfect state-of-the-art hardware, frequently upgraded and reliable software and excellent battery life.
So, what comes with the OCEAN OS?
Nothing much for westerns at first glance. You can't find most of the improvements you can see on introductory videos (like:
,
,
) on my phone. Yes, you might find them nice and useful, especially if you're an IOS fan, because the new Origin OS is basically an advanced and more featured version of the last IOS. But if you are staying with the original system configuration, you'll face Chinese letters too now and then.
But all new functional applications (Walkman, health, timer, dynamic wallpapers, notifications...) are easy to remove and that is exactly what I did. As you can see in attached pictures, I'm staying with the old fashion android configuration.
And I'm grateful to Vivo allowing me my own customization of the phone after upgrade.
But getting deeper, a lot has been changed anyway. We are talking about a complete system remake, nearly 7GB heavy. Therefore, it's Android 14, polished, totally new look, a better screen, nicer calling app, more useful camera settings and much more. The Origin Os becomes mature with the new upgrade.
The highlights: Display, Camera, Battery, Design
As you can see, the display really shines, serves it purpose in all conditions, and it's a Samsung's masterpiece of 2021.
What about battery? I must admit, I don't measure SOT anymore. Basically, there are two types of phones regarding battery for me: with sufficient and insufficient battery. In between is a gray zone that doesn't really mean anything.
And where is Vivo with the battery. It sevrves its purpose. That means, that for my type of use it usually last two days, sometimes one and something, but never, really never leaves me struggling with the power during one day. I consider myself as a heavy user regarding internet and apps, but I don't do games and don't use stuff around facebook.
About camera: I'm attaching a few comparison photos from X70 pro+ and from Iphone 13 pro max but Vivo is with the initial Origin OS (no Ocean). I consider Iphone slightly better at that time. But after that came two Oceans upgrade and especially the last one targets camera too. I think that regarding dedicated imaging chip, Vivo has a room for improvement. According to the DXOMark data the most worrisome issue in that matter is a slow autofocus: https://www.dxomark.com/vivo-x70-pro-plus-camera-review-flagship-level-camera/
But, as I said, it's too early for a fair camera evaluation, more shooting has to be done and maybe the new system had improved the camera already.
And design: One of the reason I wanted the Chinese phone is that I'm really fed up with the back glass phones. They are heavy and fragile. I really like my faux leader. And it has a good grip, finally I use the phone without a case (except in longer rough outdoor conditions).
On the other side, the long and narrow shape of the phone is not very stable with one hand manipulation. The Iphone 13 pro max is for example heavier, but one hand navigation is somehow easier.
I used to like larger phones, but I changed my mind. Now I believe that previous 6.56 inches phone screens were just right.

Thanks for the review! I received my Chinese X70 Pro Plus from WondaMobile on 5th January and despite its quirks and spending a good couple of hours over ADB uninstalling apps, customising and tweaking notifications so they work, I'm genuinely over the moon with it. I have to agree with you on the level of customisation too - there is so much of this device you can make your own!
I've not had the Ocean update yet but the beta program is full so I guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer for the official roll out!

Hi,
I am considering the vivo x70 pro plus as my new mobile phone. Would you recommend it ? I am looking to buy it on traiding shenzen or Wondamobile. I regret that there is no possibility to install global version of the software. Did you pay a tax when you receive the package ? I am from Poland.

I bought it from Wonda Mobile, no import tax (Italy)

Hi,
One question, normally would you have tax, if you buy something outsider the EU in Italy? Are you satisfied with the phone ?

Wonda pays the tax, there is no import duties at all. And they are reliable. If you want to have a global model, I believe that you can buy it on Ebay now and then. But I wouldn't do that. It's not just a money, when I bought it, it hasn't been cheap at all. It is all about user experience.

Okay, understand. Final question, so you confirm the positive outcome and review? The phone is worth buying? I am considering mi 11 ultra, mi12 pro, OnePlus 9 pro or 10 pro and 70 pro plus. I watched several reviews on YouTube, but I am wondering if those could be paid. Better ask some who really use the phone. 5g, vowifi, volte, all is working in the Italy?

For me it's a great phone. In Italy Vodafone Volte works during phone call; I don't have a 5G plan so I can't reply.

5g works, my operator doesn't provide volte nor vowifi. But i have switches for both options.
In Italy you have every 5g band but mmwave (26GHz) covered.

Thank you for the reply. What about google pay, it works? Any issues with installing the apps from play store? Have you noticed anything which can be important to mention to potential buyer. I watched almost all reviews but those are not focusing on the system itself. I am a bit afraid of the optimalization and the software of that phone.

Google Pay works, no problem with bank apps or any app installed from GPlay. Just two exceptions: hotword and Android Auto don't work. This is due to the latest Google configuration demanding both to be system apps. Everything else work just fine.
If you are familiar with customization of the phone, you have nothing to worry about. And there are plenty of instructions around.

Even WearOS watch doesn't work with Global app. You have to download WearOS app from Vivo App Store but doing that way Google Pay doesn't work from the watch.

Can't really tell. Never used a smart watch and neither intend to, my central intelligent device was always a phone. The watch functionality seems always to limited to me to bother. Small screen, 1 more device to worry about battery and get little in return really never attracted me. Know people bought smart watches and abandoned them soon after.

hello I have x70 pro plus Chinese version, have you solved the problem with the notifications? I have activated all permissions and I work in the background but gmail and other applications arrive late

WearOs is pure garbage, but it doesn't complete work on chinese firmware. I someone wants a smartwatch better stay away from it and buy other brand (Huawei, Amazfit, Mi..)

Guys, yesterday I received the third update since I was on Ocean. This time it addressed better functionality of this party apps among others and implemented January security patch. Although it is beta it appears pretty stable already. I believe that the stable version is very close.

I"m waiting for confirmation and working of android auto. At the moment that is a big issue and Android auto is not working on any Vivo phone. I have seen some posts regarding the X60.

And it won't as long as Google keeps request to be a system app. I believe that it's a total longshot. Hence I started to look for alternative solutions.
One I currently use is involving a intermediate element between the phone and the headunit. I use one old tablet with broken glass for the purpose and it works perfectly with limitations. The limitation is that I must use sip on the tablet if I want to call someone through the headunit and there is no way to accept the call this way.
But all other AA functions works flawlessly (music, maps, streaming) through hotspot from the phone.
In order to have working calling and hotword function I ordered a dedicated mid gadget which supposed to support that. I'll tell more after receiving it.

Android Auto won't work on Vivo devices with Android 11 and up.
It works for example on Vivo X50 Pro Plus because is still on Android 10.

Security/Firmware updates

This is one thing holding me back from Huawei phones. From my previous experience, Huawei don't offer a reliable schedule of security updates. You get a couple and they seem to move onto thier next release and forget everything else.
Are they still like this? How have you got on with previous Huawei phones?
I'm on the fence regarding this also - my previous experience was that UK devices had poor update support - while EU devices were far better - waiting to see this time (not fussed about missing out on any Watch/Charger promotion).

very wise. also, if you give it a couple of months to see how it gets on the price will fall too. Might be worth buying from amazon.de before March 29th to retain EU warranty. Should get better updates from the EU phone. I've been told by a contact at Huawei, that the Three network are causing the delays in the UK. Even if your are on a different network!
Has a quick look to see how the Mate 10 pro is getting on with updates. Sadly its not good. Looks like most M10P users have been put off with the M20P for this reason. Why can't Huawei on this?

I didn't get many on my last Huawei phone despite Firmware Finder. My Pixel gets them every month on the same network. That is why people are whining.
Change carriers. They obviously favor Google phones. I'm even bit unsatisfied by too many updates for Mate 10 pro cuz I like to factory reset phone after each.
Taking a look at FF they pushed out 16 updates for EU region in last 12 months. Champions of updates I'd say

Trouble is from my experience EU had great update support, UK had poor support often 2 or 3 software updates behind (although I think security updates were a bit more regular). If I get a Mate 20 I’d be tempted to get a dual sim EU model over the single sim UK one.

This is why i use a pixel. Huawei in the UK seem to lag behind. Rumours are the 3 network is holding up precedings. This will affect you even if you're on a different network.
Several several years ago, I swore never to buy a Huawei phone again because of the horrendous lack of updates. Back then it was the enormous jump from KK to lollipop. Nexus devices back then we're about to jump to marshmallow before Huawei updated their phone to lollipop. This was on the Ascend Mate 7.
I am tempted to get the Mate 20 Pro, but am afraid of the lack of support. I'm debating on the Huawei phone vs the 6T at this point. Choices.. I enjoy wide angle lenses but also enjoy smooth stock android. If only the 6T had a wide angle lens, it wouldn't even be a debate for me.

Same as me, I swore i'd never buy Huawei again because of their poor support. Its a lot of money to drop on a phone that will get dropped. Does anyone know how Android treble is working out for Huawei? Will this alleviate any fears?
I was complaining to my wife that my lg g7 only got one update since I got it. She, on the other hand, was annoyed because of how many updates she got since she had the p20 pro. Although, her phone was not bought from a carrier.
Or maybe Huawei has a new approach to updates? Considering the fact that they've stated numerous times that they want to become the #1 phone manufacturer, or beat samsung (something like that). And consistent updates would take a lot from samsung's market, knowing how inconsistent they are.
Also, huawei is one of the first to come with pie updates, which gives me confidence in them. "Don't forget about oneplus". Yeah, oneplus only has to worry about softwear, given the fact that their hardwear is borrowed from whatstheirface.
Mate 10 updates have been solid for me here in NZ, no issues with frequency of security updates.
There is one phone for UK/ EU this time. Put a sim inside, and it will OTA add your networks specific network settings/apps/maybe a splash screen. Factory reset, and everything is removed, including splash screen.
I am hoping this new system also means faster updates in the UK as well.
Will the Pixel get updates quicker and potentially for longer. Probably yes. That's the choice you have to make.

Actually, it's even better than you describe. As far as security and OS updates are concerned, there's one phone for non-China and one phone for China. Previously we had software updates separated by branding (Asia/C636, Europe/C432, UK/C782, Middle East/C185) as well as by dual sim or single sim (L09/L29)
As things are with the new models, there is one firmware file for every non-Chinese Mate 20 Pro, and one firmware file for every Chinese Mate 20 Pro. Then there are separate files for branding-related changes which can be updated and packaged separately from the main firmware file.
The result is that one update file is valid for all of the non-Chinese phones, to update the features, security patch, etc.
This is a new thing with EMUI 9, and it will also apply to older phones updated to EMUI 9, like P20 series, Mate 10 series, so on.
My carrier Optus is unfortunately well known for failing to provide regular Huawei updates so hopefully I will eventually be able to debrand my Mate 20 Pro somehow.
If you're feeling unsure about security updates, this might make you feel better

What is the latest stock status of LG V40?

What is the latest stock status of LG V40?
(a pure stock device that has never been rooted, never custom rommed, and updated only trough OTA)
I mean:
- which version of Android does it have?
- what is the latest security patch? ex. March 2019?
- is the user interface just like in V30 with Android 8? (a user interface is like in samsung - TouchWizz, SamsungExperiance, One UI)
- was there ever a change of user interface?
Untouched, pure stock, updated on Verizon, in the US. Whatever launcher comes next, I'm sticking with Nova!

Many people here may not have had v30 before.
I dare say, most likely. I never gave it a try, though. Nova a long favorite!

THANK YOU ALL FOR REPLY - ALL GET 1+ THANKS
1. The V30 and V40 user interface is called Nova?
2. I like V30 for NOT being flooded with a lot of options. I like auto everything or minimum settings/options. Is V40 in that way closer to V30 (which has little options) or does it have huge amount of thiungs that can be set? (maybe how much more #)

It's still just called LG UX in official documentation.
LG haven't pulled a Samsung or a Huawei. The V40/G7 software really only differs from the V30 in small ways, like the icon pack/theme and upgraded stock apps I mentioned. There are more options for the AoD including a colour picker (which has since been delivered to the V30 with an update in January 2019), the notch background options, the Knock Code entry field is bigger, the wallpaper settings are easier to access, and there's a revamped swipe-up app drawer option. I am a big fan of LG's UX. You won't be missing anything in software from the V30, and what is new is welcome. Themes can now enable the Google Feed if that's of interest.
The new Pie-based UX on the G8 series is nice too.
All phones need taming, no matter the brand, but I find there are fewer steps to get an LG device the way I like it than the myriad of should-be-on-by-default/should-be-off-by-default settings in Samsung/Huawei/Xiaomi et al. For some reason (likely the same reasons Samsung has for doing it) the V40 is set to FHD+ out of the box but that's about it over the V30.

Yes.
There is a difference between many settings that can be changed if you like (choice) and many settings that must be changed for a good experience (design).
The location of those settings and the ease with which they are changed matter also - sometimes a key setting is four or five menus deep on other brands. Samsung used to be bad at this and have improved, Huawei are now the worst offender. System-wide dark mode on Huawei OLED devices is called "Darken interface colours" under settings/battery for example.
For LG the most useful hidden features are rearranging/adding to the navigation buttons, and changing the "swipe to search" on the homescreen from slow "personal" results to fast "full Google search" but Google have broken this last one in their redesign to the Google app.

so may I ask a bold question like...... Is LG the best at producing simple-settings phones in terms of amount, deep, ease etc. Which other brand is close to LG in the simpleness (excluding Iphone of course)?

No, but I don't think there is an objective best at this.
Everyone's needs and preferences are different. What works for you may not work for me, what is simple and easy for you may be complex and frustrating for me. Thankfully the market for smartphones is diverse and competitive, there is a lot of choice.
Evaluating smartphones and their software is part of my work. LG offers me the combination of features and hardware I find most pleasing and useful. Others have their strengths too.
If your priority is as few settings as possible, take a look at Moto/Nokia/Pixel/other vanilla derivatives or iOS. All phones can be used straight out of the box, it is up to you whether that experience is one you prefer or enjoy - Google Photos as the only gallery app for example. LG offers a feature-complete experience similar to Samsung and Huawei, it's just less intrusive and gets out of the way.
Meizu's Flyme and Oppo's ColorOS are simplified. Unfortunately they deviate so far from Android conventions that they are unpleasant to use as features do not work as expected or have been removed entirely.

1. "Moto/Nokia/Pixel/" - You mean Andoid One phones?
2. "other vanilla derivatives" - what does it mean? what is vanilla?
3. Perhaps I forgot to mention that iOS is out of the question for me.
Oneplus 3T got first beta of PIE..... ONEPLUS 3T..... And we are here with the phone that they stop carrying about months after release and released new bunch of phones already like v40 never happened. I'm disappointed.
Probably brought the Droid curse with me, when I crossed over into LG. Sorry, folks. [emoji53]

Not Android One specifically. There is no such thing as 'pure' Android anymore and never really was, they are all slightly different even between Android One-branded devices. Pixel Android is different from Moto Android is different from Nokia Android. Instead you can group different versions of Android together to get an idea of what they have in common. Moto, Google, and Nokia are all very similar, more in common than not. Vanilla. Bare bones, you need to download a lot of third party apps to get the functionality that's present out of the box from others. If you want fewer options, these are the ones to go for. However, you may find yourself missing some features or apps if you're used to other brands.
Sony and OnePlus are similar as well but they have additional out of box functionality, like dedicated gallery apps instead of just Google Photos.
Then there are the more feature-complete experiences. Samsung, Huawei, LG, Xiaomi. Everything you need out of the box, just add the core third party apps. Can customise more if you need to. Lots of features but they're optional. You get a complete package. This is what most people who aren't smartphone enthusiasts prefer.
Lastly there are the wildly divergent versions like ColorOS and Flyme. Xiaomi's MIUI, Samsung's One UI, and Huawei's EMUI are also quite far removed from the more vanilla versions, but Oppo's ColorOS and Meizu's Flyme are a step beyond. This is because of the Great Firewall in China, all Google services are blocked and local equivalents exist to replace them, along with other localised features relevant to that market. Xiaomi and Huawei do a good job of making a global version that behaves more like other global Android phones, Oppo and Meizu not so much. ColorOS and Flyme will not behave as expected and break/change some basic elements like the way notifications work.
I like LG for the unique features and because it gets out of the way. Samsung's software is full of dark patterns designed to lock you in, and still has lots of questionable functions like Bixby and a Places feature in the dialer. Huawei's is good, but it has gone backwards in the last version. OnePlus is good, Xiaomi is good, both have a lot of options and OnePlus is better 'out of the box'. What you prefer will depend on your specific needs and preferences.

Happy to help. I work in the industry and am always interested in sharing what I can.
I have used many more phones than are listed in my signature, those are just the ones I have personally owned and used as daily drivers for long periods of time. It may not be up to date, I jumped from V30 to Mate 20 Pro and now to V40.
On iPhones: After Samsung's poor optimisation of software for the large screens of Galaxy Notes + apps of the time being poorly optimised for large screens as well, Apple finally made an iPhone that was large enough for my needs in the 6 Plus. I have owned 6 Plus, 6s Plus, 7 Plus, and 8 Plus, and I have spent enough time with the X/XS Max/XR to know they are not for me. The grass was not greener, just different.
iPhones and iOS are fine. They are functional and reliable, good at doing what things iOS is set up to do well. They are a good choice for people who do not want to spend too much time thinking about or researching their phones, which is fair. iOS is not set up to do many other things well, and both hardware and software iterate slowly. Web browsing is a great example. Apple's professors are exceptionally good and the browsing experience in Safari is very fast and enjoyable, however Safari itself has a dated UI/UX that lags far behind equivalents on Android like Samsung's internet browser. You can use other browsers on iOS, but they are crippled in comparison to Safari, and offer a poor experience - you still cannot set default apps either. Third party keyboards are a mess. Apple's cameras have been left far behind their competition. Their industrial design is dated and inelegant. There are benefits to being in Apple's ecosystem, but the drawbacks are too many, and most notably, the price of entry is far too high. It is not worth it for what you get, especially if you're outside the US and iMessage is meaningless + there are much higher prices and zero warranty/service differentiation.
Google updates core Android apps all the time. Apple updates core iOS apps very slowly. For all the press Apple get for iOS updates, they are slow to make meaningful changes. When there is a major bug, it is difficult or impossible to fix yourself or roll back, you must wait for Apple to patch in weeks or months or longer. iOS 11 was a disaster and ruined my 7 Plus.
I may return to iOS if it gets the massive overhaul it sorely needs, especially to the home screen/launcher experience, and finally gets haptic feedback in the keyboard (Gboard on iOS has just added haptics, although they are poor). I left because Apple has been left behind. It is a good platform, you just need to know what you're getting into.
Vanilla = plain, basic, default. The closest you can buy on a commercial device to AOSP. Now that Google has abstracted so much of Android into Google Services, the base version of Android matters less than ever before, and the vast majority of innovation has been in 'skins' for the last 2-3+ years.
I enjoy and recommend the Mate 20 Pro. It has excellent battery life, ridiculously fast 40W charging that can change how you use a phone (no need to charge overnight when it goes from 30% to 75% in under 15mins), and some very clever camera tricks. The automatic portrait mode is one of the best features, there is no need to manually select portrait mode as the camera will jump straight to portrait by itself when it detects a face. Speaking of faces, Mate 20 Pro has real 3D face unlock, very welcome as I cannot stand the slow and poor under-screen fingerprint sensors (including the Mate 20 Pro's). Kirin 980 is an excellent chipset too. The Mate 20 Pro was the only thing which made me shift from the V30, which remains my favourite phone I've ever used, finally displacing the HTC HD2.
The problems with the Mate 20 Pro for me lie firstly in software - EMUI 9 is not as good or polished as EMUI 5/8, with bugs and jank, and it has now been locked down considerably. First by the region of the unit you buy, and then further by the SIM card inserted. This will determine what software builds you receive and when. It can also break things if you travel and put a different SIM in and receive an update which clashes with the region software to break CTS/SafetyNet/Google Pay. EMUI 9.1 on the P30 series fixes many issues, although it is uncertain if or when this will come to the Mate 20 Pro. You cannot easily switch regions or rebrand either.
In hardware, the screen is not the best, and critically for my needs the haptic feedback is very poor. I spend a lot of time writing email and the like from my phone as it is a work tool as well, and having been spoiled by the advanced haptics in the V30 and several Meizu phones, anything else is bad in comparison. I don't like Samsung's haptics either, and Apple's aren't used in the keyboard. LG's haptics are incredible, and integrating them throughout the UI/UX makes their phones delightful to use.
I missed several other features of the V30, including the excellent Always On Display, the seven-icon dock, double tap to sleep/wake, the thin/light design, the Quad DAC, and the manual camera. The V40 is really only a minor improvement over the V30, with a better/taller screen, boombox speaker, better cameras with telephoto, additional front camera, and SD845. Battery life is thankfully still very good, the haptics are still brilliant. I feel the V30's ergonomics were better than the V40's. The V30 is amazing and should go down in history as one of the most underrated phones to date.
I have specifically chosen the V40 as it delivers several key features that the Mate 20 Pro did not.
As for what else you should test out, that depends what you've tried so far and what you're looking for. How long you will use and keep your phone, and what your budget is, and what is available for you to buy. The V30 is great. The V40 is the V30 with a few improvements. The V50 launches in Korea this month and I would sorely like to own one as it has 855, 4000mAh battery, and LG UX with Pie out of the box - although the larger battery will make it much heavier.
The LG G8s is coming, and I like it more than the smaller G8. OnePlus will have something new soon for sure. Huawei's P30 Pro is compelling, although I prefer Mate 20 Pro for 1440p and 3D face unlock. Xiaomi are good and cheap. Moto are doing interesting things this year. Maybe the Galaxy Note 10 will be good. Etc etc. There is always something new on the horizon.

Still worth buying P30 pro?

Hey guys,
since what happened between Huawei and Google I am wondering if it is still worth buying the P30 Pro.
I have heard of many features like Play Store not working on Huawei devices anymore. Does that count for stock firmware only or on custom roms too?
I was so close on buying the P30 pro but now it seems like the S10+ of Samsung is the better option.
What do you think? Especially the devs in here
Greez, skrippi
I mean the device has the best hardware for my preference, but due to the locked bootlooder updates will also add the the headache of updating. It's preference really whats most important in your phone. I like the better battery, camera and fast charge so i think im going to keep it. You never know, the decision may be reversed anyway.
I just got one and I'm happy. Not a dev, but I like the phone and the hardware. I doubt the worst case scenarios will happen. Worst case I get a new phone next year.
I just got one too best phone i have had ever and i had them all lol the camera zoom will blow your mind haha
Of course it is
Best camera for all scenarios specially night
Best battery life for all usages specially gaming
Smooth operations after the latest updates
Design and colors
speed in everything specially charging
The play store or security updates won't be effected and I am sure they will figure something out in the next month or so
American media just want to make it sound and look bad for only Huawei. While the truth is American companies lost billions of dollars of business as well.
The stupidest decision ever made in recent history
Thank you guys! I will hope they figure out something new with huawei

all current huawei phone including the p30 the honor 20 and the upcoming mate 30 is not affected by the ban google/android already tweeted that and confirmed only future devices is affected by the ban. also just to inform the apps and playstore is the only one that is banned you can still access gmail and maps using the normal browser this is the one thing a lot of people miss and not informed.
Wait, the app store doesn't work on P30 Pro ? How do you install and maintain apps then?
Do you need to look for apks for every single app?
He said ****. Play Store is working as usual.
No P30 Pro treath or forum?

Chances are when Trump finally gets some sort of new trade deal agreed with China, then Huawei restrictions will be dropped?
If not then worst case scenario is Huawei has to push out an OTA to existing models and ship new models with their own OS (based on Android) which is currently in “intensive testing phase” .
Hopefully they willl also develop their own App Store, but if not, there is nothing to stop us downloading apps from apkmirror and install manually.
If it does come to that eventuality, China will no doubt retaliate by banning Apple products (and many other big name US companies) from manufacturing goods in Chinese factories - no cheap labour = higher manufacturing costs .
Also, If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that a large portion of the worlds “rare minerals” are mined in China and are essential for manufacture of almost all high tech goods,
“The Donald” probably won’t care but US consumers won’t enjoy empty shelves or (even) higher prices in Apple stores, etc

Thinking of buying X2 Pro

Hello people,
I am thinking of buying this phone as currently this is the perfect all round phone for the price. But, I see there is no development for it on XDA can anyone tell why so? Because I always use custom ROMs on my phone as I don't like this skinned versions. This is a big set back for me. Can anyone tell if there ever will be any development for this phone?
Thank you

I have had the phone for a few weeks and it is fantastic. 90hz is great and the fast charging is a life saver. The OS is pretty decent and I'm done with all the bugs of custom ROMs. Could be better but totally good enough.

Sadly the main reason is that released sources are messy and not easily usable for custom rom building.
Luckily all phones released with Android 8+ have a separate vendor partition compatible with treble, a new way of updating the smartphone imposed by Google. This means you would be able to install any rom you want that was build as a generic GSI image.
I got this phone instead of a Xiaomi because the hardware is just so good, and I don't regret my choice. Also the software is not as bad as people say, of course it's not barebone Android but realme os should make it even better.

I was too, but a couple of my friends have it and it broke in no time, I got scared it would be fragile.
I also got this for only 40€ more than the mi9t pro, and I would gladly take the 50W charging and the 90Hz over the popup

Yes, that's true
I was looking at the k20 pro,mi note 10 and this and went for the X2 pro simply because of the value for money,
90 hz
12gb ram
256gb ufs 3.0
50 watt charging,
People say downside is colorOs and yes it is not as good as other OS like Oxygen Is which I came from.
But it is not terrible at all and perfectly good in most areas,
RealmeUI is coming though and it looks impressive giving all things you would want in a feature rich OS from AOD to edge lighting,Im really excited for it.
If ROM support is really that important to you then I guess go with a 7T but for those who are not too pushed the X2 is perfect

Yeah, it is value for money for sure. These companies are not like Apple that they will give software updates for 3-4 years, they suddenly drop support that's what I am afraid of.
That's why ROM development is very important for me I always want to use the latest Android. 7T is out of budget so I may opt for K20 Pro.

I think people will refrain from unlocking and flashing because it breaks the FOD.
That is what made me go for the k20 because if you are a flashaholic like me, custom development is what matters the most.
I have suffered with my first phone with no development, the Coolpad Note 3. When new it seems nice but as time passes by with no updates. It gets very hard to deal with repeated factory resets, which is the only way left.
So all the rest of my phones that I bought had some of the best development teams...even till date.
Zuk z2
Poco f1
K20 pro/mi9t pro
So if you want to taste custom roms, you have to go the k20 way, but beware the FOD (Fingerprint Scanner) on custom roms on the K20 Pro aren't flawless byt still work with workarounds, including widewine L1 support.
Support is really poor and updates come later.
I like my X2 Pro but it is clear it is not a top range also because of this.
Honestly i think about spend my money for my next phone in Realme phones (except minor phones, maybe mostly supported).

I am referring to relevant updates, if you are happy because of having one update at month without real improvements, you are welcome.
We know about the "promise" of Realme about March update, but the reality is that Realme is slower than other brand, mostly with its top phone.
I don't understand, instead, why people accept everything and prefer to say that his phone is fantastic rather than underline failings, just because has got this phone.

The quality of the updates have been decent. No real bugs with the software for most people, though have seen some people complain about minor things that they experience but I think most of us knew colorOs wasn't going to be perfect,
Another update just released today, this is better than most manufacturers,OnePlus for example only give Bi monthly and their releaselog is pretty pathetic at times mentioning improvements to weather app and unknown bug fixes.
Realme is definitely not slower than other brands,it's one of the quickest in actual fact and I for one don't feel at all like I'm accepting everything just because I own the phone,
I'm happy and looking forward to RealmeUI

Harmony OS upgrade for P20 Pro in 2022 H1

I'm skeptical but that's interesting. I'll have to replace the device anyway this fall (as I need a recent version of Google enterprise services to run on my device) but I suppose it would be nice to have some updates on the P20 Pro if only as a backup device
I already moved on but keeping P20 Pro as backup device (battery replaced). It is very nice form factor, quite light, and camera is still very good even by modern standards. Anyway, will be reading reports of Harmony OS upgrades on P40 with great interest. Not a fan of Huawei UI, but it might be nice to get updates and patches for a 4 year old device
This is good and bad at the same time. On one hand, Huawei has finally adapted a good alternative for android, which means more competition(even if it is a fork). Also we might get Apple-like updates, only time will tell. These updates are opt-in so you are not obligated to use HarmonyOS. On the other hand, you can say goodbye to Google services and any root methods that were possible and not found yet. Huawei"s services are still trash and I fear we won't be able to remove the system apps even with adb. If they pull an ultimatum and allow us to unlock our bootloaders/root our phones.....New OS or not, I am moving to another companies. Maybe Asus/Sony/Xiaomi
Well HarmonyOS really? I don't see a Point Moving to it.. Im more than Happy to use LineageOS 16.0 on it Instead a few Months ago, Well HarmonyOS doesnt Include Google Apps and Kills Root Methods.. well i don't care i will Stick with other Operating Systems on my P20 Pro and will not Go Back to Huawei's Made Software until i will in the Future move to a Different Manufacture (Xiaomi or OnePlus)
In terms of software, I am totally disappointed with Huawei .. also how they Handle the Bootloader Unlock with a code .. Like there is something to hide about EMUI.. sorry but that's ridiculous.
You guys should stop spreading misinformation. P20 Pro came with GMS from the get go. If you upgrade to HarmonyOS on a device that had GMS (officially or LZPlay), GMS will still be totally usable. Even with the final build of HarmonyOS. People already tested this in the betas and final version. Don't believe me? Take a look at this video:

It's the first time I see anyone address the fact Harmony might support GMS. I don't think anyone here was knowingly spreading misinformation, but were rather making reasonable assumptions (I also assumed HarmonyOS wouldn't support GMS, even on my P20). I hope what we see in the video carries over to the final version, it would add a couple of years to the life of the phone
I'm not eager to switch from this totally usable(even great!) phone because of the huge slabs the flagship phones have became in the recent years. I'm not really eager to switch to harmony os either, because of the potential gms problem and integration. The only problem I have is the battery doesn't hold as well as it used to, but that is normal, the phone is 3 years old...
Bottom line, I still love it! It's almost a flawless flagship even today(thinking about changing the battery in their service, but it still lasts me a day)

I agree it's still a serviceable phone, but there are a couple of reasons I will need to jump ship. Lack of a major Android update (we'll be 2 versions behind and my employer doesn't let us keep a phone beyond n-1), and lack of security updates. Locking the bootloader midway through the sales cycle for this phone was a big mistake, it would have been one for the ages.
Guys good news. We gonna get HarmonyOS. Except it will be EMUI 12.

Seeing as we didn't get Android 11 on this phone, I'd be surprised if they provided Android 12. That would be a first, as far as I can tell.
EMUI 12 (beta for now) for older global devices has been confirmed to be Android 10 - based with some bits of HarmonyOS UI code. Nova 9 has been an exception, as it was released with Android 11 - based EMUI 12.x. I highly doubt we will ever get an updated Android 11 - based EMUI 12 on our older devices, when it gets out of Beta.

Well, thats mega annoying, had some hope we get a up2date OS once again. Shame on Huawei, after my P20 Pro im done with them for sure too. Not that they restrict Hardware Levels, APIs and so on, but this is too much on top.
Can you record phone calls with this OS?
this morning I received notification that there is update to emui 12.0.0.225, size 4.42GB. downoloading
In Romania too. Not yet on my phone though
not much changed, mostly control center in the shade
