Upgrading to Pixel 5 from 2XL? - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

I've been using my 2XL for a long time, still runs fine. I saw there's a good deal on ebay right now for a refurb Pixel 5. Is it worth upgrading ? I'm guessing camera will be similar, size is a bit smaller.
Also I guess I should root and custom rom my 2XL this being XDA but I stopped doing that with Pixels so I'm still on 11. I also want to keep unlimited photos backup so not considering a 5a/6.
I'm sure there must be others who did this upgrade, any thoughts?

I am no expert in android phone recommendations, but do note that the Pixel 5 will only recieve updates up to Android 14 and may stop updates in October 2023.
Learn when you'll get software updates on Google Pixel phones - Pixel Phone Help
Below are software update guarantees for Pixel phones. If you have another Android device, contact your manufacturer or carrier for update info. If you have a Nexus device,

As you can live with Android 11 on your 2XL though, this may not have too much of an impact.

"Is it worth upgrading?" It depends on your needs:
- Good camera:
Google Pixel 2 XL Specs
Google Pixel 5 Specs
- Google unlimited photos:
AFAIK the Google Pixel 5, still, has Google unlimited photos:
Important: If you have a Pixel 5 or earlier, you receive unlimited storage for photos and videos backed up from your device at no charge.
Learn more about your storage options.
"Also I guess I should root and custom rom my 2XL."
Does your Pixel 2 XL has a unlockable bootloader?
I would recommend rooting and installing Custom ROM for Security Updates.
Does the Pixel 5 you are purchasing from eBay have also an unlockable bootloader?
If yes and you want to root your refurbished Google Pixel 5 check out this Guide

I'd not want to root P5 now not till its end of life.
But I may do it for P2, I use Google Pay etc so haven't till now, I've had issues with custom roms not passing SafetyNet before and got tired of the flashing.
My qn is is the upgrade worth it or will I not notice much difference?

Well, there's this to consider...
Older Pixels are losing 5G Standalone connectivity after the March update
Owners of older Pixel phones are losing out on 5G (or one form of it, at least)

I did see that, don't know what to make of it. Seems like a pretty big deal but I don't see it being discussed anywhere. Isn't 5G a huge selling point and shouldn't it affect a lot more phones not just the Pixels?

I don't know what to make of it either. Chalk it up to more Google cynicism I guess. I don't think it's enough reason to pass on Pixel 5, especially if you don't care about 5G standalone (I don't) and 4G does its job. Apparently newer stock Android builds disable 5G SA and rolling back before March gets it back. I don't really know for sure, only what I've read so far.

Pixel XL to Note 9?

Its been awhile since I have been on here or even really messed with a phone. I currently have a Pixel XL and its time to upgrade. Ive been tossing around the ideas of either the Note 9 or the XL 3. I love the camera of the og pixel and the pure android on it. I know the camera is as good on the note 9 but is there a way to do pure android either by rom or something else? The other scenario I may do is hold out for the galaxy s10 which is a few months away. Thanks for any input.
No there's no "pure Android" for the Note 9 series. You won't be able to bootloader unlock or root (unless you get the international Exynos version, but then you lose so many great Samsung features). I don't believe there's any vanilla Android ROMs for the Exynos version either.
You could hold out for the S10, but why? There's ALWAYS another flagship device right around the corner. And it likely won't be that much of an upgrade over the Note 9. I could be wrong though. I love the S-Pen too much to care.
I was a Nexus/Pixel fanboy too. I had three OG Pixel XL, then decided to try the Galaxy S8+ and loved it. Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass. Great build quality and that beautiful screen. Then I upgraded to a Note 8 and fell in love with the S-Pen.
I bought a Pixel 2XL to try out Android Pie and stock Android again, and I enjoyed it for about a week, and I began wishing it were more like my Note. So I sold it and got a Note 9 instead. Couldn't be happier.

Well first of all you have to ask yourself, are you going to use the spen? Because if you do, end of conversation, I myself changed my note 8 for the s9 plus because I thought that I wouldn't miss the spen, oh boy was I wrong. The spen is that feature that you think you are not going to use a lot, but the truth is, when you have it, you use it. Right now I have the note 9 and I guess I'll stay with it at least untill note 10 or further.
As for the stock rom I don't think so. Right now I'm using the Rootless pixel launcher and it's been good so far. Aesthetic of stock but with the perks of Samsung experience
I use to always have Samsung phone the last being note 5 then I went to the pixel XL. It's been a great phone with zero complaints till recently the battery hasn't been the best. I always hated the bloatware u get on Samsung phones and that's another worry. Does anyone have a Verizon version? Can you get rid of them like the pixel does?

I have a Verizon one and flashed the U1 firmware. That will give you the cleanest install. You can uninstall nearly all the bloat and disable the rest with a package disabler or AdHell3. It won't be pure android but Samsung has come a long way since the Note 5. I had the Pixel 2 XL for about a week and ran back to my old Note8. There is no comparison to the build quality and the cameras both have their good and bad.

I just went from pixel 2 xl to note 9. I had all Nexus and pixel phones in past. This is my first Samsung phone. And I must say I love it. The hardware is just gorgeous. The display is so damn nice too.
This is the first phone I haven't rooted. So I debloated almost all Samsung apps through adb. Disabled all the Samsung cloud storage and bixpy. I love the note 9 now. It's so fast. Has a ton of extra features that the pixel 3 xl does not have.
Only downside is camera. Pixel 2xl camera was so good and simple. Back camera on note is real good sometimes. Front camera is trash.
Samsung gave me $400 off instant trade in of pixel 2xl so I cancelled my pixel 3 xl order (Google would only give $325 wtf). Glad I did. Played with the 3 xl in Verizon and I made the right choice going 9
Can't wait for the note 10. There some sweet hardware rumors going around with it.

Yup, I agree. I've checked the Pixel 3 XL in the store, watched lots of review videos and check the forums regularly. The only thing I see better is the camera even there it isn't by much. Definitely not worth ditching the Note 9 for.

Yeah I bought the n9 two weeks ago. Almost bought the 6t since I can finally get one on Verizon. But the n9 literally does everything and does everything very well. I need the LED notification light and 6t got rid of it...my next phone will prob be the N10
I would notch go with the Pixel, they don't even have a headphone jack anymore.
I had the one plus 6t for two days and exchanged it for the note 9. Yeah it's almost stock Android and yes it's fast but when you are so use to having everything plus the kitchen sink it's super hard to just deal with the basics. The phone's battery is better the camera is better the screen is better the speakers is better the vibration motor is better and overall the hardware is just way better than the 6t. Yes it's more money but it's definitely worth it, and as far as speed the note 9 is lightening fast. The main difference when it does come to speed is maybe load up times when it comes to games but honestly nothing that's going to stick out unless you have the phone's side by side. Also the 6t better pretty hot when using some basic apps which is weird and the fingerprint scanner can is alot of work. Note 9 all the way

Nice good to hear and glad I decided against it and stayed with my n9. I can't wait for pie on the n9. Hopefully it's soon. The gesture nav looks so much better than pixel nav. I may actually use it
If the note 9 could just get a decent Google camera port it be perfect.
I'd prefer the Note 9. Not a fan of not having a microSD Card slot.
Well good choice guys. Had a S9 plus 256g and was due a upgrade so oreded the new huawei mate 20 pro and missed Samsung experience as soon the phone was on. Funny is the one thing lots of people don't like its the one I love. So got the note 9 512gb. Ups

Considering switching from Samsung Note 8 to Google Pixel 4/XL (VZW Only)

Sorry of this is not the correct place for this post!
So I have been using samsung based devices since I left apple iphone 4. many moons ago. I currently have a Note 8 (r.i.p note 7) and my current contract with verizon just expired the other day and im do for upgrade. Now that the Google Pixel line of phones has had a chance to bake in the oven for a while im thinking of getting the Pixel 4 or XL when it is release/announced next month in October 15 or when ever. Im a huge fan of rooting and bootloader unlocking, but since I am stuck with verizon I expect the phone to be bootloader locked and or carrier locked, at least until someone figures out how to bypass/unlock the bootloader. But reading about this new DSU feature in Q it may not be so much an issue. who knows. my current note 8 iv had since day 1 of it release never got updated, rooted, or unlocked in hopes a bootloader unlock would come, which never really happened. Anyhows.
Question, With the release of the Google Pixel 4 set for October 15 when might it be until I should expect to be able to get it from Verizon? As Im thinking of just waiting a little while longer and going to a Pixel 4 vs to a Note 10? I prefer the Pixel 4.
~SG
If you want to skip all the bootloader locked nonsense and can afford it, just buy the device from google and have it turned on on verizon.
Unfortunately, if I don't want to pay for any of it I'm stuck with Verizon. Work is paying for it basically.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Yeah, I can completely understand that. If verizon locks all their bootloaders and your company is paying for it, you may be better off with the note 10. Since you would be bound to getting updates when Verizon pushed them, getting a pixel probably wouldn't do much good. That's a big part of why I want one, day 1 updates. But, if you just want something new and (hopefully) refreshing, I would try to hold out til Verizon gets the pixel. It will be the only android device with radar AND facial ID. So, there's that.

In my case, I was also a Note user, the Note8 being my last Samsung device. At first I was skeptical about my Pixel 3 XL and its performance. I got the unlocked model and I can honestly tell you I would not go back. It's better than any other phone I ever had. I got tired of OS updates that would come 7-8 months late and my inability to root. Also the quality of pictures and the camera is unrivaled. Pixels ARE the standard by which every other phone's camera is measured. If you care about rooting, pay for the unlocked Pixel given that the Pixel 3 forums still have not been able to root the Verizon model a year after its release. I enjoy root and all its benefits such as Adaway, Titanium, 3minit battery and many others. Root is increasingly difficult and basically impossible on most OEM and locked down devices. If you don't want to pay for it then I would stay with Samsung. You will not have timely updates but at least you'll have great hardware.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL
Personally I put the free phone in the drawer and put the work SIM in my bought and paid for phone that I can actually do what I want with whenever I want to do it. I've been running dual-sim for years for this reason. Free isn't always good and life is way too short for locked bootloaders.

Pixel 2xl issues. Should I get Pixel 4xl or wait for Pixel 4a?

My pixel 2xl has been great till last month. Camera stopped working and phone slowing down and sometimes unresponsive.
Should I get the Pixel 4 or Pixel 4XL while they are on sale or wait for the Pixel 4a? I've heard so much bad about the Pixel 4s but want to hear from those that actually are using the phone as their daily.
Which would you upgrade to?

For $300 bux off I would go with the 4XL. I don't think the price will ever be lower. I bought two 4XL's at $200 off at the first price drop around Thanksgiving. I have had zero issues with either one. It's entirely a personal opinion, but I think it would be well worth the current $100 delta between the 4 and 4a.

Frontier02, at $300 off the Pixel 4XL it's a no brainer. I am on my second 4XL, the first one in black I got as soon as they launched, gave that to friend and got the white one next. It has been my daily driver just about every day since the fall. I also have an iPhone X max which I use once every blue moon just to see what ios is about (nothing exciting seems to happen) and I have an S20 Plus. I will pop the sim in that phone for a day at a time, it's a nice phone, great screen but the 4XL just fits me better, haptics, face unlock, etc.
You will love the 4XL, no doubt.
I upgraded to the 4xl from the 2xl on Friday. It's not a huge upgrade in speed or battery life in my opinion. Slightly better performace, about the same battery life. The 4xl does feel a lot nicer but that only really matters if you don't use a case. Still getting used to face unlock but it works good. I'm still happy with the purchase considering the $300 off. My choices are limited because I use Google Fi and non Fi phones don't do the network switching. My recommendation is flash the factory image on your 2xl. If it's still slow w/ a broken camera I'd buy the 4xl while it's on sale. I would not recommend the upgrade to someone with a working 2xl.

I would try flashing the factory images but my company requires 2 factor authentication and to set it up you need a camera. So if I do that and the camera is still broken I can't log into to works computer till I get another phone with a camera that works. I would hate to have to waste the IT guys time twice sending the information to this phone again and not work then doing it again for new phone.
Just purchased the Pixel 4xl. Now eagerly waiting for it to get here, lol.
My Pixel 2XL has been working awesome but lately I feel like I have to keep my finger on the print reader longer or touch it several time for it to read. I just performed a factory reset and I think I'll reset all my prints as well, but I'm not happy with the print reader. I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the 4 or wait for 4a. I'd rather keep my 2XL until it dies.
Also, I've been keeping my eye on the Motorola line of phones.... They seem to be coming out with some nice ones

I tried the Moto G Power and returned it within 3 days. The Moto was so slow that it was painful to use. I decided that I wanted to get the Pixel 4 xl from Best Buy at $300 off, but when I arrived at the store they had an open box Pixel 4 xl for $497. The associate let me check it out and it appeared to be brand new so I bought it instead of the new sealed Pixel. Check your local Best Buy for open box phones, you may luck out like I did. The Pixel 4 xl is worth the extra money over the Moto G Power for sure.
I have the 2XL as well and yesterday I ordered the 4XL. Originally I wanted to wait for the 4a, but since the 4 series has launched I have been drooling for the 4XL... Many have negative opinions about the 4s, but I seem to love every bit of it. The look, display, software, camera etc... I expect the DPD driver to turn up today with the phone so I have been sitting in the window since this morning waiting impatiently.... Neighbours probably think something went wrong with me....

I've made the same jump and had my 4 XL for a few days and it's a very nice upgrade without being a massive jump away from what I'm used to, the camera is great the phone is much nicer in the hand can't say to much about battery yet but I'm not disappointed with it
P4 user here. 90 hz is actually amazing. Cannot imagine to go back.
The 4a is a downgrade from the 4 XL, and with the 4 XL being $300 off, it's a no brainer to get the 4 XL now.
Also, don't forget channels such as Craig's List or OfferUp. You can find great deals there. I bought a brand-new 128-GB Pixel 4 XL on OfferUp for $400. Awesome deal. The best deals are from people who got something as a present or won it, because they have no financial stake in it; to them, whatever money they get is 'profit'. In fact, I buy all my electronics on Craig's List or OfferUp, oftentimes brand-new in box and otherwise like-new.
If you can get a good deal on the 4 XL now, I'd get it. It's a great phone providing a great user experience. Awesome camera, 90 Hz refresh is smooth, face unlock is super-fast and accurate (don't miss the 3 XL's fingerprint scanner at all). All around great phone that focuses on usability, not just specs.
As opposed to the Galaxy S10+, which has inferior cameras that overprocess and oversaturate photos and has blurring issues with moving subjects (because it's slow focusing), and with a terrible in-screen fingerprint scanner. Photos taken on my Pixel *always* turn out great, whereas it's hit or miss with the Galaxy S10+. I thought I'd really miss the ultrawide camera on the Galaxy S10+, but I don't, really. The consistently great shots on my Pixel 4 XL more than make up for that. Specs aren't everything---it's the total experience that matters, and in my view Pixel kills it here.
Face unlock on my Pixel 4 XL works flawlessly. It's so fast you sometimes forget it's actually working. It's not until you're out and about with a face mask on that you realize it's actually doing its job because it doesn't recognize you then (understandably, of course).
I haven't had any issues in terms of battery life. Yes, the Pixel 4 XL perhaps doesn't last as long in battery-drain-to-zero contests, but that's not terribly realistic in everyday use. I can easily make it through the day, and I'm always close enough to a charger (in the car, for example) to top up the phone if I have to. The supposed horrible battery life has never been an issue for me.
In short, get the Pixel 4 XL if you can find a good deal on it. You won't regret it!

Are you getting the new Pixel 6?

This is for those that have the current pixel 5. Now that the specifications for the pixel 6 have been released, are you thinking of getting it or keeping the existing pixel 5?
I'm not a fan of the larger size of the pixel 6. Also if the rumor price of $999 for the pixel 6 vs $699 for the pixel 5 is true that's way too much.
The free Google photo storage also is over as well.
I've gotten ever new Google phone since the nexus 6 and pixel 1 but the new pixel 6 may be the first one I pass on. I also have 5g already
If I update phones, I will be passing on the Pixel 6 I believe.
I finally ordered the Pixel 5 and got it back in May. My LG G7 One will likely lose security updates around October, & I got to thinking about chip shortages and the inevitable price increase that brings. I had the money saved, so I bought direct from Google. I wanted to experience the Pixel "special sauce" with their cameras at least once.
The other reason is live transcription. I'm hard of hearing so if I can have another tool in my pocket to use along with Bluetooth enabled hearing aids, I thought why not? Having just invested all that money on the 5? I will observe from afar how well the 6 does, maybe I'll get to try one?

I did a search for phone with a display of 6.1 and below with a body of 150mm height max. The P5 is 144.7 or 5.7" and 150 is just under 6". There are only 4 of them currently 3 of which are iPhones. The iPhone 12 Pro (and the new iPhone 13) are both 146.7 or 5.77". Price will be the same pretty much as the P6. I'm sure I can get $450 off on Black Friday and so...
The only time I had an iPhone is when my son cracked the bottom of his and couldn't get a decent trade-in. I used it on my second line for about 6 months and I was not overly impressed with the OS or damn near anything about it. But the size is right, the display is magnificent, and the battery lasts as good as anything I've seen. I think that Apple might want to market the 13 Pro to the Android crowd come BF. There are a lot of folks rebelling on Reddit regarding the larger size only and even 9to5 said this was a good move by Google to abandon the smaller footprint.
I don't know... I don't root any longer and haven't in 4 years or so since I bootlocked the 5X. Someone talk me down.

What if Google is going to be smart about it & let this year's Pixel 6 & Pro be "the big ones" & next year we'll see another #Pixel5 sized follow up, the #Pixel6a ?
I think that might be a little too late. Those that want a smaller device will have left the fold. They made their bed now they sleep in it. I know a lot of people are happy and a lot of people not so much. But business is business and the bottom line is how much money do they make. I'm looking elsewhere, we shall see.
Same. Won't be Apple, unless it's a second device. Never know.
But I am sad that Google went this route.
I'd like a phone.
Not a Phablet.

I know what you mean about Apple. I'm so invested in Android too. I haven't rooted in years and could still do it with my eyes closed. I'm really bummed.

It really is unfortunate.
I've been a loyal HTC fan since my first smart phone, HTC Eris. Followed by many others, Inc1, Inc2, Inc4, Rezound, Thunderbolt, M7, M8, M9, 10, and pixel 5, considering Google bought up half of the HTC team.
So naturally the Pixel 6 was a big excitement for me.
I suppose maybe I'll consider an older device, like Samsung depending on what they have going on. I do like my brothers S21.

I just checked and I still have my Eris in the drawer. There was one after that slightly larger, forgot the name. I have every one still including the Thunderbolt, the Nexus and everything in between, and all work except for the S4 which got sort of blown up when the battery exploded. It still turns on and is still rootable since I didn't flash the firmware that disabled root. Lol. But did you root the Eris and over clock it to 750hz like I did?
The S21 didn't sell well and is 6" body so just wondering what kind of ongoing support it will have. Samsung is trending toward 6.2 and larger. That being said, the P6 is about 1/2 inch larger than the P5 (6.3 vs 5.7.. hmm that's .6") so I'm wondering what it will feel like. If they thin it out substantially it might be doable but it's not an automatic purchase like it would have been at 6" or below. Their reasoning is seems is people are using their devices as full entertainment and lifestyle options and not just for checking the occasional email and text. But like you, it's taken the thrill of the release out for me.

Dang bro! That's impressive. I really wish I had kept a few of my favorites! Especially the Eris. Eris is how I got to being on XDA. I wanted Android 2.1, and like a few, ended up flashing a leaked image and was stuck on it and couldn't roll back, and had to wait for the official and deal with the bugs. But that was how I got into rooting/theming/modding, and pumped that baby up to 750hz as well, and been here ever since!
Testing S-OFF for the Rezound with the "paper-clip trick" was interesting!
Man, the S4 as well. I had the S3 and S4, and ended up selling my S4 with the rootable software that I kept like yourself. After I sold the S4, it ofc because really sought after, and I almost re-bought it but couldn't justify the price on Swappa. Incredible 2 and M7 were a few other favorites. I do still have my M8 and 10 but the 10s battery is donso, making it a non-used attached to the walla MP3 player.
Good points about the S21, and it is a bit large, and def. heavy compared to the P5. I think my main reasoning for mentioning it is because I really wanted to try Samsung again since the S4. I actually bought the S20 International version, and was close to paying for Bootloader unlock, but then I found out that I wouldn't get 5g on Verizon. Though, from my understanding I would of been getting low-band 5g, but can't say. But I haven't seen 5g on my P5 in my area yet.. lol
I'm hoping like you that Google slimmed things down enough to make that .6" not such a huge difference. But as you said, normally it would be an almost automatic purchase. I'd possibly sell my M8, and probably keep the P5, and grab the P6.
Having a hard time reading that font @andybones sorry. What I did today was go into a Costco with my P5 and line it up with all the phones out now.. Everything is big. The only thing that was comparable was the 12 Pro but it was definitely thicker. If you have time or the desire check out the phone sizes it's eye opening.
Anyways here is a blast from the past..

Sorry my friend, let me try a different shade of Purple, if not I'll go back to Green.
(I deleted you post above this, as it was just a quote of my post, I'm guessing due to my color choice)
P.S. is this purple shade any better?
Man that really is a blast from the past! Too awesome! SetCPU!
I'm still using Root Explorer, love it.
Unless you or any others have another suggestion.
I will try and get to a BestBuy/Walmart/Verizon, etc and check out the devices. It's very unfortunate to hear this. :-(
I'll use this green if the Purple is too much of a pain.

On the computer purple is ok but with the dark theme on the phone it's hard to read. Green is much better. I still use root explorer too, I haven't found anything better. I opened setcpu just now and changed the speed from 750mHz to 862 and crashed the Eris. Forgot how nice it is to be able to just pull the battery and reset the device. It has a 3.2" display with a 4.5" body. Tiny little thing that still works on wifi. I also just fired up the other small device and found it to be an HTC Incredible. No OS on that one but it does take me to recovery fine where I can flash a rom if I needed. It's fun revisiting this stuff.
I actually didn't see anything other than the iPhone mini that was as small or smaller than the P5. I'm assuming that the display size is measured diagonally and the body of the device a separate measurement. The 6.1" displays aren't too bad if they go full body so that's why I'm thinking it might be possible depending on how much bezel there is. But after you go to a store let me know what you think. I literally took out my P5 and measured them side by side. But the guy there was kind of creepy and hovered over me so I'll do it again at another store later this week.
Pixel phones are 5G locked outside target markets... Because I like to keep up with the last technology, I'll move away from the Pixel line so that I can use 5G on Brazilian operators. I'll miss the camera though.
I'm not sure, what the pixel 5 has taught me is I really don't need a top tier phone and am perfectly fine with middle of the road. Honestly, that thinking has opened up the market for me.

I feel the same. As long as it would have an amazing camera.
@andybones Are you by any chance watching the Apple presentation? Slick as can be. Google has their work cut out for the P6 release. 6.1" iPhone 13 Pro. Just sayin'. lol No pricing as of yet. No touch id only face, not thrilled about that.
edit: Pro $999 base- Pro Max $1099 Available on Sept 24th. I'll wait until the P6 drops

Question Are you getting a Pixel 5a?

It looks really good, but without a 90hz or higher screen, it's difficult for me to justify.
I am curious if we can trick Google to recognize a 5a as a 4a 5G, for some free "High quality backup" in Google Photos - as there aren't many differences between the two devices. Same silicon, same RAM and storage configuration, almost the same screen size.
I pre-ordered one. I got talked into it while asking about security/software updates on a budget phone forum here. It is more than I expected to spend, but people made me realize I don't know how to quantify the extra costs/risks of other manufacturers adding their own software on top of the android part that Google is patching.
I would be happy to pay less and reduce the specs further in some ways, but I am thinking about it as cost per year of software support, so I won't consider the older models that already have 1 or more years of their software life spent on the shelf... I'd probably be satisfied if it had 4GB RAM, 64GB flash, and LCD instead of OLED but with the same software. I am interested to see how the 5G works out w/ T-Mobile. (Edit: for reference, my current phone is a Moto G7 Play with 2GB RAM, 32GB flash, and a 720 pix wide screen. It is usable for me, but definitely shows its limits...)
Our last Google phone was a Nexus 5X. We went on a budget quest after that, thinking pixels were too expensive. We thought Moto was a decent value for a while, but I've been growing unhappy with their worsening software support. I.e. only 2 years and not even monthly on the budget models.
Yep, preordered mine.
No, I ordered the Galaxy S20 Plus from Google Fi for $50 less than the Pixel 5a. I am not a Samsung fan, but that's too much phone to pass up for $399.
Undecided. Would like the larger screen. If TWRP was an easy install (compared to 4a), would jump on it. Will probably wait another year (or two).
Personally, I will not. But I hope that people will be okay with the stuff that we see. It’s a lot of aspects that have been made with the stuff that we can talk about. It’s really cool that there have been solid phones over the years and I love that the Pixel continues to be a strong Android phone.
I was going to, but the camera overheating issue worries me. Want to see if that's prevalent in a wider adoption first.

If I'm not mistaken the 4a5g as well as the 5 all have the same camera setup and all experience the same overheating issue. Therefore, if this is true and Google has not "yet" done anything to resolve the issue then either they are unwilling to fix the problem, or they are unable to do so. I'm still getting one because I rarely even use the camera on any phone.
I did pre order the Pixel 5a for myself, will get rid of my iPhone 12 Pro Max then. Last Pixel I used and still have as a secondary home device is the Pixel 4 XL, which I loved, except for the absolute crap battery life, that thing blew for battery stamina, other than that running Android 12 beta 4 on it and it's smooth as hot butter.
If the Pixel 5a has similar smooth performance as my 4 XL, I'm fine with that, but I really need great battery life for my job out in the field a lot and on the go, don't have time to charge often. And I thought last years Pixel 5 was a bit too small, and I find my 12 Pro Max a bit too large, so an in-between phone size is exactly what I want, and good battery life. 6" display too small, and 6.7"+ size too large.
Like I said if the 5a has similar smooth performance as my 4XL, then I'm all good.
And man I can't wait to be rid of iOS, just such a frustrating OS and screwy way it works and Apple Maps blows.
Pre-ordered one from Google Fi for the wife. $15/month for 2 years including insurance on their subscription plan. She doesn't want to give up her Nexus 6P so I may change over to it from my Pixel 3XL.
I want to but currently I'm on a 4a and since it's not available in Canada, I'd have to jump through hoops to get one. I have a feeling Google will be asking too much for the 6/pro. I paid over $1000cnd for the Pixel 1 & 2, then dropped back to the 3a and now the 4a. I'm more than happy with the A-series phones.

I'm no expert on things Canada, (though I was born there) but seeing how close it is to the US, and if the phone has the necessary LTE/5G bands could you not somehow import one at US prices?

There in lays the trick. Apparently Google is clamping down on such shenanigans. Currently it appears my option is to have a friend who lives in Japan, order a US version, ship it there and pay import charges, then have him ship to me. I'm guessing but that'll put the cost of 5a into the 6/pro price range... And if that's the case, I'd be better off getting that directly from Google.
I'm the meantime, I'll hold onto my $'s and see what's what with the 6 and 6Pro and decide then. After all it's not like my 4a isn't doing the job
I pre-ordered. I have been holding out on replacing my 2 XL. No newer features, even flagship, were that appealing and I held out as long as I could since I cracked the screen on the 2 XL. All I need is stock android updates and long battery time. I don't play games, so not terribly concerned with the 60hz.
I preordered one as well. My first pure google phone. Can't wait to give it a try.
Pre-ordered mine along with the pixel a buds. Definitely looking forward to it. I know ill likely get one of the 6's as well lol.
I received notice that mine shipped today. It's supposed to be here Friday EOD.
If it ever launches in India, I am getting 2.
Oh well, started the RMA for mine this morning. Freezes up too often when streaming YouTube videos. Hesitates too much when scrolling through web pages. Gets hot using camera. Still on June 5th patch???? Hate the Pixel launcher. Had to put Nova on it! Just cannot compete with my OnePlus 8T. Say what you will about the evolution of OnePlus...but my last 3 phones from them have all been great! Still hard to beat for the $$$$$ I highly doubt that I will ever buy another Pixel. $35.00 restocking fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SMH
