How to Unlock Bootloader Asus Rog Phone 3 (06/27/2023) - ASUS ROG Phone 3 Questions & Answers

I created this topic because I can't find a way to unlock the bootloader of my Asus Rog Phone 3. Regarding whether or not I unlocked it before, I would think not, since it was a high-end phone, when I bought it, it did not cross my mind unlock bootloader, root, install GSI roms, among others.
My Rog Phone 3 had Android 12 installed, I tried to Downgrade to Android 11, Downgrade to Android 10, and then use the Asus Original Unlock tool (using all its versions) without favorable results to unlock bootloader.
I also tried EDL Unbrick, although I don't know if there is any tool to unlock bootloader with EDL, tools, anyway, I open this question to see if there is any way today to unlock the bootloader of my Asus Rog Phone 3 (it has 12GB of RAM, It is optional, just in case.) Someone who can help me or access me, I would be very grateful, excuse my English. My goal is to unlock bootloader to root it and then install GSI roms, especially install GSI roms ..

What to do first when I receive the phone?

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering what I need to do when i receive the device. I am in Australia and the phone might be the Chinese model.
So is there anything I have to do with the phone to make it usable as I've heard you need to flash on the global ROM.
How do I properly set up my device for use?
Thanks

If you bought from a chinese-based online store, most likely your device has a fake ROM. To get rid of that ROM, you need to unlock bootloader. No matter if you want to flash an official ROM or unofficial xiaomi.eu. You can try to change ROM with MIUI Updater app, but most probably it will not work from a fake ROM.
To unlock bootloader you need at least a couple of things: a xiaomi account you can create here Mi Account -> account.xiaomi.com
After you create your MI account you need to request unlock here MI Unlock en.miui.com/unlock and wait several days to be approved for unlocking. In my case it took 4 or 5 days before I received an SMS of approval.
Then download MI Unlock app (Windows) and search a manual for unlocking device (you need to activate developer options).
In order to unlock bootloader you need a Chinese ROM (stable or dev) but If I'm not wrong all 'fake' devices come with a chinese-based ROM, otherwise wouldn't be a fake ROM?
After you achieve unlocking you can flash any ROM, Global or China, unofficial like xiaomi.eu, etc..
Flash global rom without unlocking bootloader
There is a way to flash global rom without unlocking bootloader using special USB cable that you can make yourself if you still want to do so i'll gladly show you how I did with my phone.
If you are tired and irked by MIUI, I would strongly recommend you to quickly apply for Bootloader unlocking permission on the official Miui site. Afterwards, unlock your bootloader and install official TWRP recovery and a ROM of your choice such as CM14.1. That way, you will be able to experience the true "openess" and magic of Android!
You can install CyanogenMod ROM, but unfortunately you will get no updates, since project has been discontinued on Dec 31 . Their successor is http://lineageos.org/ but there's nothing on their web yet.
Do create a MiAccount.. and do remember your security pattern... what ever you intend to do next do those two things
no need to unlock bootloader.
Xiaomi flash ROM came with 2 method.
you can flash not only from fastboot mode ( bootloader mode ) but also from edl mode ( QDloader 9008 mode ).
- fastboot method need to unlock bootloader.
- EDL method not need to unlock bootloader .
EDL method even can unlock bootloader with unofficial method

Clean install for Global Stable Rom

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get my head around everything, in order to get it onto a cleanly installed Global stable rom. It’s currently running an older version of Global stable rom, on a locked bootloader. I wish to make sure that the installation is totally clean, so I’ve figured that one of my best options would be to update it using the fastboot method.
As far as I can gather, this is that I should first unlock the bootloader using this guide here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-267361-1-1.html
After I’ve done that, I can update using “method 3”, the fastboot method, as described here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-307744-1-1.html
I have a few questions here, before I start the process. Any help would be appreciated:
In order to unlock the bootloader, I gather I need to be on China Dev rom (not Global, and not China Stable). Do I simply use the updater app and run a downloaded ROM from the website to get it onto China Dev?
Do I need to be on China Dev to even start the bootloader unlocking process? Can I leave it on what I currently have (Global stable) until I get the unlock codes?
When I register for a Mi account and request for an unlock, does the phone number associated need to be in the Mi5 I'm unlocking? I.e., do I need to keep the sim card in the Mi5, while I wait for the unlock codes etc. Until the phone is cleanly installed, I'll be using a different phone, so the SMS codes will be received on a different handset.
Do I need to install all the drivers, (Quallcomm etc.), noted in this guide here? http://en.miui.com/thread-299790-1-1.html The other guide above only specifically mentions to install the Mi Flash Tool.
Lastly, am I going about this the right way, or is there perhaps an easier way of doing things to get a clean install? Note, I don't have access to a deep flash cable.
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Will try to answer some of your questions based on my experience.
I unlocked the bootloader from global stable rom. It is possible to do that from global and china rom. No need to change roms and definitely not needed to be on developer roms. I am not sure if it works on eu rom as it is unofficial.
You need to apply for phone unlock over xiaomi webpage while you are logged in to your xiaomi account. If you havent created a Xiaomi account it might be easier to make one over the phone as it uses your phone number and connects it all to your account.
Then log in on your pc and apply for the bootloader unlock. It takes about 10 days for them to process your request and i didn't even receive the sms that i can unlock my phone. After about 15 days have passed since i applied i just went along the instructions on the xiaomi unlock webpage and just unlocked it with some xiaomi pc application.
It was a fairly straightforward experience. I can't remember was it mi flash or it was something specifically for unlocking the bootloader, anyway it is on the xiaomi unlock webpage and on miui forum.
After you are through the process you can go to developer options in settings and look for mi unlock status it should say unlocked if you are successful. (if you haven't switched the developers options on already tap 6-7 times on the miui version in about phone and the developers options menu will appear in additional settings menu)

i have try many of thing but cant done
so plz provide better way to unlocked
i need just root the phone not interest install other os in phone
and one more thin that i have got nokia developer bootloder unlock done via nokia is it good to unlock with him
.
thanx
Nokia has NOT provided any means of unlocking bootloader of N7+, hence to root is NO go. Another path to achieve your goals is by means of 3rd party procedures, which requires you to dig into your pocket. Google is your friend.

Is buying a Bootloader unlocked device safe

I happened to see a mate 40 pro device which is a global version but had its bootloader unlocked. Will it remain secure and operate as mentioned by the company or does it have any negatives.
Anything with an unlocked bootloader has less security compared to a device with a locked bootloader. If you plan to do confidential things with your device with an unlocked bootloader, some services will not let you use them due to an unauthorized modification of the device. An example would be applications that rely on safetynet or have services that detect an unlocked bootloader, root, and/or custom recovery. Other than that, the device should work and operate normally under any other circumstance. If you wish to get an pre-unlocked bootloader device, i recommend you to flash magisk, as that will hide root, and the unlocked bootloader status on the device so you can still do your every day things without booting you out due to an unlocked bootloader.
Thanks for your suggestions High on Linux, would help find instructions on how to flash the Magisk on Mate40 pro

From what i have seen, there isn't an official method to flash a custom recovery or magisk yet on this device in particular. I personally don't own any huawei devices either but since this device is fairly new, you could start seeing some progress being done within the next two to three months depending if numerous developers own this phone or not.
Thank again

Today rooting and android device doesn't bring any benefits.. it was used for old gen smartphones where ppl used to miss features but now you can have it without some root.. + if you have root many apps will detect it and you will encounter many many problems espec. with payment apps or bank apps etc.. making even more trouble ..

Question Updates about Realme 8 pro modding options

Hi all, i don't follow modding world from a while so i don't know what happened more or less into the last 3 years, so now that i need to root the device i wanted to do some questions.
I bought a realme 8 pro at the dayone and now i have the last update installed (so realme UI 4.0). I wanted to do the root but i don't know how much realme support it, if the bootloader is locked or not, ecc. ecc.
I saw in this phone thread that there is a method (the guide is written in May, 14 so it seems very recent) about unlocking bootloader (so i guess is locked?) using deeptest, i tried to read but i didn't really understand what kind of thing is that. So i wanted to ask, what is deeptest? if it is locked, if i successfuly unlock this bootloader what happens to AIO updates? (I guess there will be no updates such as other devices?). If the AIO updates stop to work, Is there a way to manually download and install updates? Can i root this device using magisk for example? I have seen there is something, but there are these things i can't understand.
Thanks in advance for replies and sorry for my bad english.
Hi, yup, the bootloader is locked.
Deeptesting is an app by realme used to request an unlock code. You can try this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unlock-bootloader-help.4425415/post-86777721
Try submitting your application, if it tells you "Your model doesn't support deeptesting" you'll have to follow my guide.
Either way, after a bit of waiting, inside Deeptesting → query approve result → start Deeptesting.
Doing this allows your phone to boot into fastboot. Where you can unlock your phone using
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your data.
Hi, thanks for the reply! So there is a method to unlock the bootloader. But if i do it, i can't update anymore my device via OTA, right? How could i do that thing. In addiction, is not possible to obtain root permission without bootloader unlock? Because i need root to save whatsapp messages 'cause the application is stupid and can't do a backup by itself.
In addiction... I downloaded deeptesting and my phone does not support it. Yeah
You can get OTAs if, and only if, you didn't modify the firmware. Unlocking itself doesn't break OTAs, but rooting/custom kernels/vbmetas etc. will.
You can't get root without unlocking. As per Whatsapp, I think you can use ADB to back up data without root.
Thanks again. As i know ADB is disabled for whatsapp from a while. Ok then, thanks anyway for all informations. I guess after the bootloader unlock i can install magisk to obtain root acces.
