[REQ] Facedown Lock for Android (Butler-esque) - Droid Eris Themes and Apps

I was curious if anyone would be interested in porting some or all of the features of this Windows Mobile app over to Android. I'm most interested in the Facedown Lock feature. There is a similar app on the market named g-lock (sp?), but it doesn't work most of the time, and very poorly when it does actually work.
Link to the original app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464611
Thanks

The only problem with doing a port over is the fact that the app is coded for a phone running a completely different operating system than the Eris.
HTC Raphael runs Windows Mobile Operating System. HTC Desire Eris runs Google Android Operating System. To get the app onto the Eris would require someone to completely re code how the lock app works.

Adobe AIR/Flex HERO development for Android. Share your experience and try my app!

I'm developing for Android platform utilizing Adobe newest Flex HERO which supports mobile device. The whole process is ok, but what I found that first of all it slow, that may be because no official release or AIR and Flash for GTablet. But also it is quite buggy. During debug application keeps crashing very often in various places, so I assume this is not my bugs. Debugging on device getting to be very annoying, can launch app 5 times before it actually starts properly and wont crash at very beginning.
Can anyone sharable own experience of AIR developed under GTablet?
I'm using latest Vegan firmware latest available AIR and Flash player.
Edit: I've attached APK with app, please try it and tell me how it works. Thank you!
I made a couple of simple apps with the first BURRITO release of the platform. All in all, no major problems like you described. The apps are slow, but not excessively so given that it has to load the AIR runtime first.
At the time I wrote the apps, I was on TnTLite 1.x and 2.x. Havent tried with 4.2.x.
I hope you get it sorted out; to me, the Flex platform is WAY faster to work with than the standard Android/Eclipse or MotoDev Studio.
My ReelPortal video conference app runs on top of AIR 2.5.1, but I actually developed it using Haxe (FlashDevelop IDE), instead of the Adobe tools. The major reason for doing that was speed, as from what I read, Haxe compiles to faster and tighter AS3 bytecode.
This was my first Flash app, so I had to learn both Haxe and AS3, but I think it's worth it, being able to run fast & efficient.

It's in this thread:

Nice thing about AIR/Flash is the same exact code runs on many platforms. My web client is at www.reelportal.com.
I'm just getting a black screen after loading AIR and Reelportal after turning on the camera.

That sounds familiar. Is it this problem:
MoonPops: I kept getting the black screen while starting up ReelPortal in the TNT dashboard home, but it works fine in the Android Home Classic screen interface.
Also, there are several versions of AIR floating around, and some don't work at all. I suggest get it from Android Market if you can. If not, then from the Adobe SDK.

Call lg support now

If there are any things you want improved in the software call the support now
My complaints:
Bluetooth does not work with third party software and is unreliable in general.
This has been fixed on other phones with the same broadcom bt chip via custom firmware.
USB host needs software but the hardware is capable.
(same usb controller as motorola xoom)
F-Secure's annoying sound every time it finishes a scan without finding viruses.
(LG is the customer not us so they have to force them)
End your call with asking the case to be elevated.
I've called them with little luck but if we all do they have to fix it.
1. Would be nice if they would give you the option to "repair" your phone in LG update software. Sony Ericsson's Update software allows you to reflash your phone with the newest firmware, even if its already present on the phone.
2. I would also like support for the mkv container, would save me some time remuxing some videos. And while we are at it, recording in FullHD should be 1920x1080, not 1920x1088.
3. The thing I would like the most would be a pure Android OS, without all the LG stuff (Facebook for LG etc.), F-Secure and such. This way I would be able to choose the applications that should be installed on my phone.
My few "complaints", other than that, best phone I have ever had
Then call the support number on their website. The message they gave me is that they are wayting for feedback before they release a patch

According to what I have heard the Android OS that is running on the LG is as "close" to Vanilla Android you will get with an custom UI. So apparently LG is not too deeply rooted in the OS as say HTC are.
The public reasoning for the close to stock approach is because they want the hard core of the android development community to program for the device another example is the unlocked bootloader and easy rooting. Sure you loose your warranty but its easy to do.

Great thread, magfal. I hope users here use their voices & inform LG of all the bugs they've encountered. I'm glad LG wants ownership opinion, & now it's up to us to push for change.

It's totally true. There's no framework integration except for:
Music bar in shade
Font engine
Toggle buttons in shade
Graphics
It's completely unlike Sense or Blur, you can simply remove the bits you don't want and replace them with stock Android stuff (except the actual framework).
There no extra system process or services running as a result of LG framework mods on the O2x - it's a "raw" as it can get whilst still being an "LG Phone".
The only things that are tightly integrated are the Music controls and font management and you can hardly blame them for that, they're better than stock Android. My problem is that the music controls only work with the LG Music app so they're useless to me (PlayerPro). Modding this is what resulted in my temp brick...
Lets keep on track here but the issue i see as the most important in your post is the ability to use the player controls with third party music players. Call lg and tell them what you think they should improve

Normaly you can sideload any app you build using your own wp8 sdk tools as long as the app doesn't require interop services or other higher capabilities. Sideloading store apps won'tbe possible as they are encrypted.
Which capabilities does Tube 8 uses? I don't think that you were able to install an app using the cap interopservices.
I also have waze for wp7 installed, tube 8 is an adult video service viewer if you get my drift....

@noelito I got your drift. But these two apps don't need any special capabilities to run. They can be run on each dev unlocked device. No full unlock required!
Ok so regarding marketplace apps, how can we de encrypt them so we can sideload? I have the I'll fated Microsoft YouTube xap and read somewhere to remove the wmappheadr XML something and tried that with another app and could not sideload any tips? I would like to be able to factory reset my phone and side load the app

As of now, there isn't any way to decrypt XAPs. Since we are on the subject of XAP decryption, this gives way to the subject of piracy which isn't accepted .
Oh my that's not something I want to do

XAP decryption *Is* also useful for reverse engineering the OEM app updates... if one of them introduces a vuln, we want to take advantage of it.

Oh I agree. I just wanted to make sure the conversation didn't float towards the way of piracy before the mod decided to shut it down.
As for deencrpyting XAP files - currently we don't know of a way to do it. Sideloading of WP7 XAPs for a long time worked after removing those headers but several months after WP7.5 (which introduced support for it) they switched over to truly encrypted XAPs and so far no one has been able to deencrypt those.
As for Interop-Services - this likely won't cause issues any more in WP8 because Native Code is now officially supported. They won't work though as other means are employed to not allow them to access functionality that is not supposed to be accessed. Most of those Apps worked through accessing certain vendor drivers/services which are likely to have changed in WP8.
@StevieBallz: ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES and native code have nothing particular to do with one another. Native code is a way to get out of the "API sandbox" that restricts what operations an app can request that the system do (for example, there's no official API for registry access). ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES is a way out of the permissions sandbox that restricts what the OS will actually allow the app to do. On WP7, there were low-privilege native-code apps that didn't use interop (DllImport project, for example) and there were high-privilege interop apps that didn't require the author to write any native code (just re-using what was already on the phone, my MultiTask Toggle app for example).
Frequently, the two were combined (WP7 Root Tools is the primary example, but every pre-Root-Tools registry editor app also qualifies). High permissions isn't very useful without native code, because the official APIs don't let you request many things which you would need high permissions to do. Native code isn't very useful without high permissions, because most of the things that you can do with low permissions can be done without native code at all. However, the two really have nothing to do with one another.
Now, on WP8, we have all the native code we could want (well, actually it takes some hacking to get out of the API sandbox again; the official third-party native code API is much more limited than the full Win32 API) but we run in an even more restrictive app sandbox. On WP7, low-privilege apps could at least read most of the registry; I doubt that's true anymore. On the other hand, ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES is alive and well; all the fancy, high-privilege OEM apps (like the network configuration ones, or the system diagnostic ones, or Samsung's call blocker, etc.) still use ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES. Looking around the Diagnosis app on the Samsung ATIV S, I've already found high-privilege provxml and file system access. Unfortunately, interop-lock is (of course) also alive and well; attempting to sideload an app that uses ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES still results in error 0x81030120, same as it did after Mango.
I just sideloaded the old teter hd game that was on the HTC touch hd from back in the day

It is unfortunately impossible to port an android app to windows phone, they are two completely different platforms. In order to get it on wp8 you have to rewrite that thing from scratch.:banghead::banghead::banghead:
Sent from my HTC Evo 3D GSM
If it was written in C++ against the standard libraries, you might be able to re-use the program logic. Even then, though, the UI would need to be re-written.
If it's in Dalvik Java, though, it will need to be fully re-written. Thankfully, C# isn't *too* different, but it'll still be a lot of work.
Also, some Android apps need permissions that aren't available on WP8. I haven't checked what the linked app does, but not all platforms support the same types of third-party apps.

[Q] will windows mobile 6 apps work in windows 8? any workaround?

I used windows mobile 5 and then 6 in early era before dawn of android. and really liked my beast of a phone o2 xda exec.
now currently I use android phone.
But I have my eyes on nokia lumia.
So, is there any work around for installing and running windows mobile 6 apps on windows mobile 8 phone? some custom firmware or something?
Simply No.
no... also no custom ROM's...
all apps you need is in Windows Phone store, safe and 100% clean from malware...
Windows mobile 6 apps can not be executed on windows phone 8. They are using different SDK and runtime.
On windows store there should be many replacement for your apps on windows mobile 6, even the developers may still there.
In future there might be emulators for windows mobile 6 on windows phone 8+, but the user experience may not be good.
Different SDK, different runtime, different application model, different security model, different input scheme, different kernel... "Simply No", as djamol put it, is pretty accurate. WP7 had very limited ability to run a few WinMo apps on heavily hacked phones, because it used a variation of the WinMo (WinCE) kernel and runtime, even though you needed custom wrappers to account for the difference in application model, but that just doesn't work for WP8.x.
