[Q] Odin stuck at: <1> setup connection... - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830, with the following info:
- Android Version: 2.2.1
- Baseband Version: S5830JXKC1
- Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-perf
- Build Number: Froyo.JPKC2
- Connected to a Laptop running Windows 7 Enterprise fully updated with hotfixes, updates and drivers.
I’m tying to Install the new gingerbread 2.3.4 update from samfirmware, but every time I run Odin and try to update, the process stops at: <1> setup connection...
I tried to:
- Use a different laptop.
- Use a different cable.
- Use a newer version of Odin (old was 4.38, new is 4.42).
- Kill the Kies processes in my laptop using task manager.
- Update Kies to the latest version.
- Uninstall Kies and it's related files.
- Update my laptop motherboard and USB drivers.
- Reinstall the Samsung Mobile Phone USB drivers.
- Select different settings in Odin (Debugging mode / PDA mode... etc).
none of the above worked
help?

If you did this question may sound stupid but I should ask anyway...
Did you boot to download mode?

How to put into download mode
1. On an OFF state, press VolumeDown+HomeButon+Powerbutton (hold them together until you see the download mode screen (small yellowish/gold/orange color)
Hope we were able to help you.

It worked
Okay, your question was not stupid, I do feel stupid however :/ apparently I was doing this:
- Holding Down Volume Up + Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button!
It loads a screen that says "Emergency Download Mode", which I assumed was the correct loading screen since it does show on Odin...
I was wrong; I should have just done this:
- Holding down Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button!
In which it does load the correct download screen with the yellowish message that say "Downloading…"
Thanks a million guys, this one gave me a heart attack yesterday

I have problem upgrading my Ace too,
I have a yellow text showing downloading and I always got stuck :

can someone advise?
Thanks

Something is messed up with your PC's USB drivers. Get an updated set of your Chipset drivers for your motherboard, uninstall and reinstall Kies, or switch to a different PC.

There's startthread detected. It means he was in the download mode before it messes up.

Hey!
Jeah, he has problem with USB(drivers or change to other USB).
CHEERS!

Thanks to everyone who gives their advice.
Finally the problem is from the PC, probably some USB device clash with odin. After using another PC, I am able to flash my ace now.
Thanks again.

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to unbrick my Ace phone. The problem is that nothing comes up on the screen and I can only access EMERGENCY DOWNLOAD MODE (pushing all the buttons). I can NOT enter normal DOWNLOAD MODE the phone just doesn't enter this mode and Odin does not recognize it. Should ODIN work also on EMERGENCY DOWNLOAD MODE? or just DOWNLOAD MODE? if so, how can I get to DOWNLOAD MODE?? HELP PLZ!!!!

Take out battery, reinsert it, hold volume down and plug in USB cable (do not turn it on!) It turns on automatically. Then you should be in Download or software Update mode... Hope I gave you then right combination, if not, correct me guys Then try again to use emergency recovery with B2C and if that doesn't work, try KDZ again.

Are you using R&D Test Tool to flash? If yes, it should stop at 4%! Flashing is continuing in the background. You must wait about 10 minutes to finish.
Also try flashing with KDZ_FW_UPD.exe. It shows % correctly.

18:37:30 : LGE USB Driver Version :
Empty space means that you don't have USB drivers installed...

18:37:30 : 2 - Emergency connect success
It shows how your phone is connected. As you can see there's 0 displayed so "0 - NotConnected". There should be 1 or 2 when phone's connected.

ok, thank you! i will try again but I think the problem is that I am doing this from windows safe mode because from normal mode windows enabler doesn´t function.
I have already proved with windows 7 and vista.. and windows enabler doesnt function neather. I try with xp also, but when i connect the mobile the computer restart, this is crazy.....
what can I do to use windows enabler from windows 7 or vista in normal mode???
Thank your for your help!! I think i am closer to success
You can flash in Windows 7 in normal mode but click right mouse button on windows enabler and run it as administrator.
You can also download THIS archive, that I made for another forums. It contains working drivers, kdzu, r&d, windows enabler, etc. All you need is there.
yes!! now I can use it, the problem with windows enabler was that I didn't run as administrator. Now I can connect with the mobile phone using R&D test tool but now I got a new problem. When the phone restart I got a blue screen!!!
Do you know why I got this problem now??
Thank you so much for your help!!
Well, if R & D didn't help you have 100% brick...
6 months ago I did software update by FOTA (WiFi) when my phone was rooted and with ClockWorkMod. After downloading update from phone, and after restart, phone went into bootloop running CWM everytime. I flashed it via KDZU and got blue screen. Tried every possible method that was available at that time. There wasn't R&D Test Tool available yet.
Phone was repaired in LG repair centre (motherboard replace).

I did the same, I tried to update by FOTA and my phone was rooted. After that I got a menu from ClockWorkMod but I couldn't do anything.
I try to restore with LG update tool and it doesn't work. With R&D test tool I got a blue screen after it appears a black screen telling that the firmware is updating... I tried with several options and I always got the same result.

Remember. The safest upgrade method is via the USB cable. I don't trust FOTA after I bricked my phone.
So are you able to enter recovery console? If yes why dont you download any rom you like, do a full wipe and try to install rom then? Shouldn't it work or did I get something wrong? and sorry for the bad advice about vol key

How can I make a full wipe??
what do you mean with recovery console? LG software update agent? KDZ_FW_UPD? UpTestEX_mod2_marwin?
When I have used Lg software update agent I got an error during the instalation and it says I have to contact with technical service.
Using KDZ_FW_UPD or UpTestEX_mod2_marwin I got blue screen after the mobile phone restarts.
Thank you!!
AFAIK, the bluescreen with "LG team security" (something like this) occurs when the firmware is corrupted..
If you want to flash a certain firmware, download it again.. eventually check its MD5 hash. Also rename downloaded file as in this: V10A_00.kdz (or, B, or C, or whatever...)
If I remember correctly, when I was in this situation, I managed to repair my phone doing this:
-Uninstall and reinstall USB drivers! Reboot your computer
-Remove the phone battery for a few seconds (you can put it back or not, )
-Install LGMobile update tool
-Holding pressed VolUp, connect the phone to computer. The phone should enter in S/W upgrade mode..wait a few minutes until your computer recognizes and installs the appropriate drivers..
- Launch LGMobile update tool.. wait untill connection with your phone it is established
-Use emergency recovery (Customer support-->Recovery Phone) in LGMobile update tool. If everything works ok, it will install your's provider latest firmware.
-Then root it again, and so on....
Be pacient!! Do not disconnect your phone untill updater says that it's done!! Carefull!! R&D Tool seems to hang at 4%... In all cases WAIT untill Phone boots completely!!
--------------------------------------------
Long storry ...shorted:
You need:
1. LGUnitedMobileDriver
2. B2CAppSetup(google...)
3. IMEI your phone
4. internet
install 1 an 2
Remove the battery from your phone and plug it to USB while pressing Vol up and wait until the drivers are installed
Run LGMobile update(B2CAppSetup) -> Customer support -> Recovery phone -> put you IMEI ......................... -> Check ... wait
Automatic recovery running
----------------------------------------------
More info and drivers with tools, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771
(I never used Windows enabler with KDZ updater or R&D tool!!!!)
Of course I am not responsible for any damage, destruction .. etc. (you know the drill)
Keep us posted if it worked..

No. This blue screen is different. It shows random memory blocks, etc. Only stuff that some developer can read.
"Error LG Security Team" is different error that can be repaired by simple Hard Reset...
Try V20A beta (test) flashed with Smartflash? Maybe it works.
As I see this, it seems that it's a firmware problem, as it appeared after a flashing operation..
I think that SmartFlash is changing, formatting and rewriting slightly different the partitions (dimensions).
After this it should be relatively easy to revert to stock..

I've had this once. Blue screen, and the entire screen has random memory blocks writen all over. It was like written in the format of a logcat but displays memory blocks with numbers. I just used R&D Tool (CSE_EMERGENCY, CSE web upgrade test) and flashed V10E Europe Open. It booted fine after.

[Q] HELP!!!! bricked after 'Flashing the Recovery' with ROM Manager - Galaxy MINI

My phone got bricked after Flashing ClockWorkMOD using ROM Manager.
It seems to be a hard brick; No display, don't know if its charging, but when 'VOL UP, VOL DOWN, HOME & POWER' (I think it goes to 'Emergency Download Mode' but the screen is off) is pressed, the PC detects it and shows the 1st Image below. Odin detects it as like the Image 2 below. But gets STUCK like the 3rd image and I've also attached the message that ODIN gives!
Please help Thanks!!!

pull out your battery . .
wait 10sec
press ON . HOME BUTTON and VOLUME DOWN
while holding put back you battery . .
then it will go back on downloading
need use first method . .
one solution
Your phone is hard bricked. bootloader wrong.phone cannot boot.
Go to service center and talk fake story . if you lucky , wanarity center will acpect your phone
had same problem
My galaxy mini was also bricked by rom manager tried all solutions an looked into jig method i had warrant so told samsung was syncing with keys and all went dead theye fixed an had it back to me in 10 days with a letter saying they found the problem and fixed also installed latrst firmware witch was froyo this was a o2 locked phone witch i can also confirm u can flash with gingerbread then any custom rom for our minis. Now using emanon v4 removed rom manager as sgalaxy mini is not supported
unfortunately there's no solution but sending it to the technical service
I think you should go to a service center.

TWRP Bootloop [FIXED]

Howdy all,
Got a wee tiny problem here. I had recently decided to update my recovery mode to TWRP to allow me to perform backups of my system as i am not fully trusting of technology and ran into a wee roadblock. My phone is now stuck in a bootloop to recovery mood, well i did some digging online and found a few guides to fixing this issue. All the guides require me to use odin which for some reason does not work on my computer, everytime i try to use it i get an error message of:
<5> StartThread Detected : 0
<6> StartThread Detected : 0
<7> StartThread Detected : 0
<8> StartThread Detected : 0
<1> --- cannot open the usb serial port. code: 32
So again i went digging online and found a few fixes uninstalled the nokia suite on the computer, disabled the kies service on startup, made sure it wasn't in my running processes, tried every USB port, tried numerous reboots and all to no avail.
I don't have access to another computer to be able to run odin on and i absolutley need my phone.
So can anyone on here help me, im going stir crazy and have ran short of ideas for fixing
Mucho Gracias

Some solutions:
- Delete odin
- Clean Registery (sometimes it works)
- Delete KIES and reboot pc. Delete any file regardin to KIES!!
- Reinstall only the Samsung USB drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
- Open Odin with admin rights and try again
- Use another PC
Good Luck
Thanks for the advice after 9 hours i finally got it working. It took me copying the folder i was trying to use onto my E:/ drive and then to run it from there.

[SOLVED] Galaxy Ace S5830 - Soft Brick - Need help!

Heya Guys,
So I had been playing with my Galaxy Ace recently, and I managed to Soft brick it.
But unfortunately I cannot seem to recover it.
What happened:
I had rooted my OFW and decided to try Cyanogenmod 7.2. All was going well.
Then I read about this firmware; http://michielv.eu/2012/10/12/boost-your-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830i/
M!-U! Rom, so I looked it up on XDA and found 2.2.1patched, and flash that.
On reboot I got a black screen. No boot. OH ****!
I did find if I do the battery trick I can get into download mode. Screen still black.
The problems is I cannot flash ANYTHING using Odin. (tried 1.85 & 4.38 on 2x Win7 machines & 1x XP machine)
Odin recognizes the phone in download mode (Yellow square) but when I try to flash, it gets stuck on
"<>1 Setup Connection"
Tried updating the Samsung drivers and using different ports, nothing is working.
Tried a USB Dongle, no luck.
I do have a full CWM backup on the SD, but I cannot get into recovery mode.
If anyone has any ideas on how to get Odin working (I'm on a Win7 machine) I'd really appreciate it..
Thanks,
Brik
Maybe Odin is outdated. Also did you check the one package option in Odin while flashing? Also, try using a different USB cable. Try this website- androidadvices.com....go to the galaxy ace section and follow the steps EXACTLY.
If everything fails, go to a service centre and say that your device got bricked while updating from kies.... You need to appear very angry and absolutely convinced that it's not your fault. Then they'll probably repair it.
Best if luck.
Swyped from My Galaxy Ace.
A thanks would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply! I've used Odin v4.38 & v4.42 (those recommended for S5830) and even tried 1.85 and 3.07.
None work. Tried a different cable and that didn't work either.
Can you provide an direct link to androiddevices.com? No sure what "Steps" I should look at..
If I have no luck by Monday, I'll take it back..
Thanks!

Well, do you have any firewalls on your computer? If yes, disable them. They sometimes interfere with Odin.

Tried that but still no luck.
It seems I can get into "Emergency Recovery Mode" (Up+Down+Home+Power) Only. Cannot get download mode,,
Odin still recognises the phone (yellow square) but will not flash...
Ok, since I couldn't get it into download mode I returned the phone to place of purchase and got a replacement.
Problem solved.

Wrong CWM Hardbicked?

Hi i have made a very bad mistake and have installed CWM intended for the 5830i on my 5830 the phone turned off straight away.
Now it will not boot looks dead.
I can get into download mode odin detects it but i cannot see anything on my screen. Then when i start odin i get to:
<5> StartThread Detected : 0
<6> StartThread Detected : 0
<7> StartThread Detected : 0
<8> StartThread Detected : 0
<1> setup connection...
That's it, just hangs there.
Is my 5830 hardbricked?
Is there a way around it?
Would a jig be of any benefit?

If you press the download mode buttons
Does it say downloading ?
If not it can be that you have killed your ace aka hardbricked

No nothing just blank screen. So it was probably Emergency Download Mode? Hardbricked? I will try a few phone shops by me see if they got a riff box.

If the download mode doesn't come up with the words downloading, written, then your device is hard bricked and you have to take your phone to a service center
