Is it the earphones or the phone ? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I've got these red earphones(ones that came with phone) and some other Samsung ones, anyway I've realized lately that the red ones don't work if I plug em in straight away, but I have to keep plugging it in and out of the earphone jack while spinning it until I see the earphones icon, but if I use some other earphones they work straight away
BUT
If I put those red ones in any other phone they work immediately..
So it's really confusing here if it's the earphones or the phone..

Could be a coincidence but I had the same problem with my red headphones that came with the phone. Now I'm using some white ones my gf got with her M8 and have zero problems. I also had trouble switching songs when I double tapped the button on the headset..it didn't seem to want to respond. So I just threw them out

Weird, if no one else posted about it then maybe it's associated with the updates or something.. because it hasn't been happening for really long, thing Is, the red ones don't have their own characteristics to be having issues with the software.... Wtf

This issue is very common. I see at least 1-2 threads for that issue each month. So I don't think its related to the update.

Mine stopped working aswell. They connect to anything, but not to my own phone. Also they wont connect to my dads htc one (dual sim). Is there some kind of identification thing htc is using? or what is going on?

Microphone issue

Hi xda,
I wanted to see if anyone else was having trouble with their microphone. On most of my calls I get told its like I'm talking with either my mouth covering the microphone (which I'm not) or that I'm talking quieter than a mouse.
When I use the loudspeaker, they can hear me fine.
I have tried taking the case off, but that makes no difference.
I am getting my replacement from 3 on Monday (they actually have the worst customer service known to mankind) so will let you all know how it goes.
I hope this is a 1 off, but thought I would see if anyone else has had this issue

are you using any thick cases?
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I tried it with the case off...and had the same problem. I think its intermittent as it happens on about 80% of calls.
I think the Mic might be down the bottom right had corner as there is a tiny hole there...and on the case its got a large gap to keep it uncovered
i have the same problem did you fing out where the problem is?

are both of you running custom roms? if so that might be the problem. i came from the s2 and when we got the ics leak it came with a horrible echo, underwater sound, and muffled sound. same problem with jb leak until source code was released. hope this info helps:good:
Hi,
no I wasn't using a custom Rom, it was stock.
I didn't get to the bottom of it, and I had to really fight to get a replacement, but now that I have, the sound issue is fine.
My new one does have that very slight lip at the bottom near the charging port, but I'd rather have that than a non working Mic.
sorry I couldn't be of more help but if I were you I would either call your network for a replacement or HTC to fix or exchange if you bought SIM free

[Q] No sound through headphones from time to time

Hi all,
I have a problem with my HTC One. Sometimes the headphones are working, sometimes not. Sometimes it is enough to reboot the phone, sometimes it takes s several reboots. Speakers are working fine. Using a different pair of headphones does not solve the problem. Anyone with a similar problem or a solution?
My guess is that it is a software problem as rebooting helps but not playing around with the headphone jack in the headphone socket. I considered putting a different ROM on it but I am afraid to void warranty what would be bad if the headphone problem is a hardware problem.
Regards
Christian
I've been having the same problem. I rarely use headphones but lately the last few times I have. Its been a hit and miss with it working. Sometimes it'll come on then go back off. Its quite annoying. Turning the headphones or unplugging and plugging back in sometimes helps. I've encountered it on 3 different headsets, a speaker and an fm transmitter. Its actually happening now as I try the headphones that came with my phone and a comp speaker

When the sound through headphones is working, it is working. It is not disappearing. I am not using the bundled earphones but sennheiser earphones. I used the same headphones on my old galaxy nexus and use them also with my notebook. This is why I know they are working and the HTC One must be the problem. I am unsure if I should return the device and get a new one or just wait for the update with 4.2.2. Probably the problem will be fixed by a new firmware...
Yeah once they connect they usually stay connected. The going on and off only occures when the headphones are plugged in and don't come on to begin with and Im messing with it to get it to come on. Its definitely gotta be a problem within the htc one. Whether software or hardware, I don't know. I'm leaning toward software issue and am going to wait it out and see if 4.2.2 fixes it. I don't use it enough to swap out my nearly perfect htc one with a possible defected one

Seems we are the only two people having this problem
It appears that way, but theres probably others that don't use xda or just haven't come across this post yet. It is a fairly new post. Hopefully someone comes across it and has a better insight of the actual problem that causes it to happen and/or confirms 4.2.2 does in fact fix the issue

[Q] Back button light

Hi all, I've noticed that when the hard keys light up, the back button is lit up but not as brightly as the other two. Has anyone else noticed this too or do I have a hardware fault? Thanks.

Hi, I think 901s as I'm in SE Asia. It is noticeably dimmer than the other two. The shop said they'd get back to me.
I'm using a 901s and all three buttons are lit pretty equally. Sadly there doesn't appear to be a way to alter the brightness in the settings.
901s here and they are all the same brightness.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback. I've been informed by HTC I will be getting a one to one exchange. Waiting for the shop to call me.

It is a great phone. So much better than the one. This is what the one should have been. Anyway, think I found a bug in the music app. Happened on two of my earlier ones.( had the black before the silver one). The music will start skipping and tripping for no reason when using headset. Sometimes, it takes a while, sometimes straight away. Really annoying. Sometimes calls last number. Anyone else? Cheers.

Seems that the button on the headset is too sensitive, so it's accidently pressed when wearing, so you have such problem. I have HTC RC E160 which came for me in the box and I also experienced such things when buttons were pressed by my bag, although they're tougher.

It happened with my old sensation xe beats headset too. If I unplug and plug headset, then the problem goes away. Maybe something to do with the jack. Shouldn't be happening.
Hi all, finally got my new phone. All lights working now. :good:
Sad that I too have this problem. Gonna go to HTC Service Centre and try to get a new one. And if I'm not wrong its the 901s model.

Guess we must be the unlucky two. Didn't even cross my mind to check for this. Anyway, hard to notice when buying the phone during the daytime. It should be a one to one exchange. Good thing I didn't root it yet. Otherwise, HTC will no doubt give you a song and dance.

[Q] The loudness of HTC Desire C

Hi, my Desire C is very quiet on music playback, and on ringing too. However it is set to max. With earphones it is loud enough. Is there any solution?

I think it shouldnt be like that. One friend has desire x, it was loud enough, but had to give to warranty due to lcd fault. When she got it back desire x was updated also, but since then it is as quiet as mine. I do not listen to music much, i dont care it is quiet on music playback, but i hate when it is quiet when someone calls me. In settings everything is set to max and quiet on pickup is unchecked.

Looks like a hardware issue.
I think its software fault, but dont know how to fix it. and else what makes me think it is software problem- it has only 3 system languages. i have never seen only 3 languages in any of android phone. and sometimes when i turn it off and then on back it cannot detect network, it detects it in very very long time or when restarting.

Network is a different issue. It might be a faulty radio or something. I am facing a similar problem. It says NO SERVICE frequently, whereas the same sim card in other phones shows full bars. I'd recommend you take your phone to the service center if under warranty, else why don't you try flashing and experimenting.

Congratulations! Let me try the stock ROM once again as well.
Are you sure network problem was solved? Even in "WCDMA / GSM auto" mode?

(headphone jack issue) Should I keep the New nexus 6 or the refurbished!!??

So I got a brand spanking new Nexus 6 and right out of the box I had a issue where it thought the headphones were in, I wiped it flashed stock ROM and custom ROM still happened, called in for warranty and tmobile sent me a refurbished one that clearly had the screen replaced cause you could still see the plastic under the glass. Well last night the brand new one stopped doing it and is now working flawlessly, I'm thinking about keeping the new one and calling them and telling them nevermind but do you think it will happen again?? Should I just keep the referb?

Yikes this is one of those things that's best left up to you BUT since you are asking lol. IMO I would keep the new one seeing that it's brand new, not sure how visible/or even as to why there is plastic under the glass but it would bother the crap out of me knowing the screen at one point had to be replaced for whatever reason. Again this is just my personal opinion

Motorola can't build phones. Every nexus 6 has static through the headphone jack. If someone says there's doesn't. They aren't using the headphone jack or they are def. Mine has done it from day one and the only way around it for me was to install a Bluetooth receiver in my truck and my home receivers. Hate this hpone but stuck with it for another year. I'm
I use the headphone jack frequently and am certainly not deaf. I haven't encountered any static, so perhaps I'm simply lucky.

I'm in the same boat, that makes 2 lucky people lol
I've never heard of that issue before, but I've never had that problem myself. I just a corded pair of earphone. No bluetooth.
This might sound crazy but it worked for me with a similar issue with the headphone jack controlling my volume/speakers - blow into the jack to clean it out. A bit of debris in the jack had mine acting crazy for a few weeks.
I would actually be furious if I were to receive a defective device that I PAID for and when I notify the carrier they go and send out a replacement that's refurbished? What kind of bs is that, either you send me a brand new replacement or refund me the money. I would've given T-Mobile hell over the phone
Dont have static headphones. I have static speakers tho. Yes, these phones are built pretty bad lol.
perhaps check if the headphone jack is clean or try cleaning it.
