Zenfone 2 Laser & Qualcomm Seed - Zenfone 2 Laser General

Hi, apologies if a similar thread has already been posted.
So I'm currently considering buying the Laser, but I've seen that there aren't any available custom AOSP-based ROMs yet.
I understand that this is still a new device, and I appreciate the fact that we already have a working TWRP recovery.
However, I've been comparing the Laser's specs to other devices and I've found two very close matches - both of which, coincidentally,
are made according to Qualcomm's reference device (codenamed "seed"). Here are those devices:
Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ZE500KL
Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 (quadcore 1.2GHz)
Adreno 306
8/16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, microSD slot
13MP back, 5MP front camera
Dual-SIM, 2G/3G/4G LTE network compatible
720x1280 px 5.0" screen (Gorilla Glass 4)
Bluetooth 4.0, WLAN b/g/n
Ships with Android 5.0, planned upgrade to 6.0
Android One (second-generation, Qualcomm-based; example: General Mobile 4G)
Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 (quadcore 1.2GHz)
Adreno 306
8GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, microSD slot
13MP back, 5MP front camera
Dual-SIM, 2G/3G/4G LTE network compatible
720x1280 px 5.0" screen (Gorilla Glass 4 or Asahi Dragontrail Glass, depending on model)
Bluetooth 4.0, WLAN b/g/n
Ships with Android 5.1.1, upgradeable to 6.x onwards till 2017
Wileyfox Swift
Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 (quadcore 1.2GHz)
Adreno 306
16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, microSD slot
13MP back, 5MP front camera
Dual-SIM, 2G/3G/4G LTE network compatible
720x1280 px 5.0" screen (Gorilla Glass 3)
Bluetooth 4.0, WLAN b/g/n
Ships with Cyanogen OS (based on Android 5.1)
As you can see, the devices are extremely similar. Click the device names to view their specs.
The last one in the list, Wileyfox Swift, already has nightlies for CM12.1. These nightlies
work fine when flashed on the second phone in the list (Android One 2nd gen).
Would it be possible for the same nightlies to work on at least 1 variant of the Laser?

Reserved

have you tried flashing boot and system from the nightlies to see what happens? you might get lucky. I am willing to try, just don't have time this week.
for one thing, the laser autofocus definitely won't work, and probably other features.
of course you could be unlucky, the partitions could all be different sizes/locations

Hmmm, you have a point. I won't be able to test on my own as I don't own the device.
May I ask, why won't the autofocus work?

because wileyfox swift doesnt have a laser autofocus so there wont be any drivers for it, that would need to be ported from an asus rom

I flashed boot and system. doesnt boot, goes straight to fastboot. not really willing to flash aboot

are you surprised? be my guest to try harder, but it seems like suicide to flash aboot from another device & manufacturer when we haven't got any experience yet of unbricking from QDLoader 9008 position yet. Just because the peripheral hardware is the same on all the devices, doesn't mean the MMC format, bootloaders and kernels are compatible

It's a resistive screen.
I've been looking at this phone for a while, and now that it's out, I'm having a heck of a time finding someone who sells it that has it in stock ( tried the websites suggested here on their website). I did find it for $517, out of stock, on provantage.com but it doesn't seem like this phone is very accessible
I have no reason to be a skeptic as to this phone's ability to get Tmo's 3g. The specifications show that it has the 1700/2100 bands required for the service, but I'd really like to know if anyone has been able to try it out yet and what kind of dl speeds they are getting ( oh, and where you managed to buy one from)
FYI...it has not been released yet. The Pharos forum tech said on 03-31-09:
"The Traveler 137 is due to be released into the market in a couple of months. Unfortunately, we do not have the exact release date at this time. Thank you, Natalie"
Hopefully, they are trying to get WM6.5 on this bad boy for a June release...
when it comes to hardware, i will always check the cpu used
qualcomm = slow, very preformance lag & flickering
Nice shame no physical keyboard and no HTC build...
Agree that HTC & XDA support is important...
Also, it has the same qualcom chip and I wish it had the snapdragon!
FYI...PocketPC Thoughts announced the unlocked Pharos 137 (dual USA 3G & upgradable to WM6.5) finally goes on sale tomorrow at Amazon, Expance, Newegg, etc...
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/mob...ilable-upgradeable-to-windows-mobile-6-5.html
what kind of freaking joke is this??
cant find the phone on amazon, dell, or newegg!
or any places that have the phone "available"!
^looks like Pharos Support replied to U on the their forum: that it would be delayed (again) for 1 week
they better not have anymore delays! i just hate waiting!
otherwise i'm going to get acer f900.
acer f900 uses samsung 533mzh cpu, is that better than qualcom 528mzh?
but f900 only has 256rom/128ram, but i think that is enough?
Does anyone know of any active ROM development for these phones? I would love for someone to cook up a custom build for this phone. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I have not seen any development (yet) for the PT137. It would be on the Pharos forum if there's going to be any cooking...
Note this just went on sale, so not too many have it...
i also have a PT137 and would love to see some rom development but i don't think it's going to happen here at xda. the pharos section in this forum is for the device htc made for them and i don't think htc is making the phones for pharos any more.
i will keep my fingers crossed and hope.

My previous phone was Motorola Razr I..it had an intel CPU..since It was running stock-pure android it didn't lag..but not all apps are compartible with intel SoCs because it's architecture is x86... 98% percent of apps would work with intel and others will have bugs
Now, I read that MediaTek CPUs aren't good but I have never tested a phone with that cpu
If I were you and I was about to choose one of those 2 phones, I would pick the Asus just because it will get android 4.4

why? when you try drag an icon from drawer to home screen, there will be 4 options at top of the screen, the first one is "Create Folder".
Hay cheers Mr RomBox. I did know this and thanks for reminding me. But I was talking about creating folder directly on the home screen. Like drag existing icon on home screen to create folder.

OnePlus 5 Specifications
Snapdragon 835 (2.45 GHz)
5.5-inch 1080p DCI-P3 screen
3.300 mAh battery
6GB/8GB RAM LPDDR4X
64 GB/128 GB UFS 2.1 storage
0.2-second fast fingerprint reader
dual camera (20 MP f/2.6 and 16 MP f/1.7)
Bluetooth 5.0, LTE Cat 12
Price: US$ 479
The dimensions should be fairly similar to 3T and Oppo R11.
1080p OLED screen + Extremely efficient 10nm SD835 + 3300 mAh => thats a great combination (on paper) for a device with great SoT/Battery-life.
If we are to take cues from the Oppo R11 reviews the camera setup looks exactly the same as R11 where the second camera is a telephoto lens for 2x zoom and portrait bokeh purposes. If they score 89-90 on DxO mark this is going to be one of the best cameras on a smartphone for 2017.
With the exception of a faster processor, more storage and dual cameras, doesn't really appear too different from the 3T.
This video explains the design of the Oneplus 5 and why oneplus probably went in the direction where they took best design elements out of 3T and marry that to the iPhone 7s design. The reasoning behind the placement of dual cameras and the odd antenna lines on the top seems to make sense.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcfmTt7vwMU
My take on the design... It's most likely going into a case or getting a skin slapped onto it, which will help differentiate the phones. Then there is also the fact that the iPhone 7 is a good looking phone...and it feels good in the hand.
I'm excited for the phone. No doubts about getting it. I already know the first thing I'm going to do with it... Take pictures of my Nexus 6P and post it on Swappa.

Still a a rumor, needs to be confirmed by an official Google Statement.
On the one hand it totally looks like a Oppo R11 twin with more powerful specs http://winfuture.mobi/bild/1497443227
But maybe there are some differences. Oneplus 3t is smaller than Oppo R11 and Oneplus published this picture which indicates IMO that Oneplus 5 is smaller than 3T.
https://mobile.twitter.com/oneplus/...45308.ampproject.net/1496877433269/frame.html
If OP5 would be even marginally narrower than 3T it would be a big selling point in my opinion.

If only I can ditch my 6P & use the OP5 on Verizon. This would probably be the only reason I don't get one, is the fact it wouldn't be Verizon compatible.
Other than that, I've always wanted to try one. There is a slight chance of going to Tmobile, then I'm sure there's no issues there.

Uh yes, with the exception of the faster and more efficient processor, larger and faster storage, and superior cameras, it's essentially the same phone.
Any guesses as to the price of the 128 version? Is it like a flat 100 extra? The no SD card will be a first for me since I've had Android (2008) so I'm a little annoyed with having to use an OTG drive or whatever else. I would be much more comfortable with the 128gb version unless it's close to 600.

A guy I work with is thinking about the U11, because Verizon/AT&T doesn't work at his house. I personally use StraightTalk with a Verizon sim. If I need to, I'll just get a new SIM card and stick it in. I just hope it will still be available on the 23rd, as thats when I get paid.
such a waste on specs
1080p no led? > so 2010
dual camera ? > use a charl zeis 41mp best mobile camera ever, if nokia ever with those huawei and even iphone cameras get trashed
i had high hopes because i saw they atleast gotten a 5.5" led screen but you say its a lcd
and seriously these features are worth nothing, dual camera for what ? its not like it is more professional it shows how idiotic people can be to have dual cameras in a phone to take a picture or selfies
sorry il wait for nokia and its charl zeis camera, no one beats those as far as i know

So costly at $599! I hope they make some adjustments!
And also, the 128GB variant should be with 8GB RAM, right?
How come this thread says $479 and the post says $449?

They aren't really releasing their next iteration without at least Quad HD Display, are they?

Probably trying to cut costs to a bare minimum, looks like they're trying to spin it with an accurate colour space but a massive mistake. A crazy move.

List of Supported Camera Sensors for RN4X SD

Hi all,
I used an app which showed the list of supported camera sensors for mido. See attached picture.
It would be awesome if someone can find one a better Sony module out there which fits this phone.
https://prnt.sc/hn3bck
well i see the imx378 is on that list? same sensor as used in the google pixel
this list.. is it sensors which are electrically compatible, or physically compatible? no good if it doesnt fit in the phone, or requires a different lens setup. the 378 sensor for example is 7.8mm . the standard sony chip used is 5.8 mm.. i cant imagine that working without an entirely new lens setup, and probably case mods.

I used an app from the Google Play store called Device Info HW which shows you everything about your device. This app detected all the above camera drivers installed (front and back cameras) on the device.
I did a bit of research online, but have yet to find a module that may fit on the Note4X. So like you say, it may need an entirely new lens setup even if is "supported".
So I'm not sure why Xiaomi would include these drivers in the system folder though? It did have drivers for all 3 back cameras (Sony, Omnivision, and Samsung), including the qtech and ofilm versions.
Very interesting. I'd like to try a cheap one on that list just to see if it worked but I'd really love to see the pixels camera shoved in there... I found one on 'witrigs.com' (can't link as I'm new) for $20 if anyone fancies taking the plunge.
Any ideas on maybe cutting the back panel to fit the sensor? I'd like to know the dimensions of the samsung/omni/sony lenses used if anyone can find any info on them. Are there any differences between the pixel and pixel XL?

On Q-Tech's website I see they manufacture a bunch of different types of camera modules. The closest dimension I found was 8.5mm(L)*8.5mm(W)*5.3mm(H).

Good work finding this, thanks! That one does seem bigger, the lens itself wider too... Could deal with that when we come to it.
Been looking a little more into this, I wonder how that list of supported cameras are provided by 'device info HW'? They might be physically compatible but to my understanding probably not fully. Looking in system/vendor/lib I can only find the files (are these drivers?) for the 3 different cameras that mido has shipped with. I have zero experience or understanding if its possible to add drivers through kernel or anything though. Maybe a dev or someone with some experience can give some insight but looking at articles like these:
h ttps://www.xda-developers.com/cameras-custom-roms-developers-make-hardware-work-without-source-code/
I believe this will be unlikely to work.
@CedricSnail
As you mentioned, the camera libraries are located in 'system/vendor/lib'. For my device I see all the drivers listed by the app in that folder (see attached file). Which ROM are you using? I'm currently using the China Devloper ROM.

Oh wow, I'm on 'lineageos for microg'! Guess that changes things...
I'd be very interested in ordering some and giving this a try, the Z2's imx214 seems cheap so i might try that. I wonder would it be possible to include the libraries in a lineageos build?
Edit: nevermind, the imx 214, 298 and 2nd gen pixels 378 have a different number of pins on the connector from what I can tell from photos. They seem to have 17 pins lengthways as opposed to 15 on the imx258. However the 1st gen pixels imx 378 has 15 pins. I cant find any high resolution photos of the connections though so theres still a chance it may not fit.
Any updates on this ?
DO NOT waste your money on getting a different sensor! Just because the drivers are there, doesn't mean it's gonna work for the same chipset. Not to mention it would be a different size. Unless you can find another Xiaomi device's sensor that has the same processor and the same size and connections, you can't install anything else. Maybe Samsung Sensors could upgrade to a Sony Sensor, but not much more AFAIK.

??
I just did some research online and I found out that the Redmi Note 3 Pro uses the Samsung S5K3P3 16 MP sensor, which is also included as a driver in the Mido folder. I looked on AliExpress and put together a comparison photo of the 2 sensors side by side and it looks like it may fit inside the Mido. (The number of pins are exactly the same)
Does anyone have a spare Note 3 lying around and would be willing to test on their Mido? I'm curious on the camera quality as it is 16MP vs the 13MP.

Probably not as I saw that the MTK version has a slightly different connector than the SD (according to witrigs.com). I attached a screenshot of the image on their page.
i would try the pixel sensor since its supported

Please keep us posted about the adventure! If pixel camera fits in, then it would be exponential upgrade!

the best site to get the camera module is aliexpress.com but it is also risky due to scamsters posing as sellers.
Anything new on this topic??
It just shows the Sensors supported by the Board and the Processor. Everything's in the firmware not in the ROMs.
