Any recommendations on thinnest case possible... ? - Moto Z Play Accessories

I love the moto z play. Its a great size but I dont want anything bigger. Its a large 5.5'' phone comparatively.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a super thin case.
Debrand skins work well too i guess but I want to fit a small magnetic disc under it for a car mount
The style shell would be perfect if it would fit one of those metal discs under it.
Thanks in advance.

From my experience you don't need metal disc with this phone. It was designed to work with back covers with magnets built in and sticks to magnets at bottom area near metal pins with thin silicon cases.

Yeah ive tried that. The magnets are at the top around the camera hump and below the Moto mod area. There are no metal pieces in the middle of weight distribution unlike the Moto z and z force. So the phone falls off easy

Imak sandstone case or Nillkin tpu. I use both of them, and they are very thin.

Idea: metal battery cover

Hey!
I thought of something. Perhaps someone could make a mould with the original back cover, and then remake it out of aluminium. That's all.

I would buy this in a heart-beat.
Wouldn't heat be an issue? My play can warm up a little bit just being idle in my pocket on a warm day.
Aluminum would help dissipate the heat quicker than the plastic cover which is more of an insulator.
I have doubts though about the durability and strength of a similarly thick aluminum cover. It would have to be much thicker than the plastic one to be of an protection.
Theres already one on ebay just search it
sent from my Xperia PLAY running DiXperia
All those on ebay are cases for the phone, i think we're talking about a replacement back panel here.
What i would REALLY like to see is a complete housing in aluminium, preferably anodized matte black.
Or somethign like the HTC one's body: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/HTC-One-S-Strong-Case-Ceramic-Metal-Process,news-14451.html
question is how will you put it on without damaging the tabs on the phone? we are able to put the back cover because it is flexible.

Very good point. Press tabs will require a flexible material like plastic. Most metal panels i've seen fit with a sliding lock.
This is one project that doesn't seem likely to see the light of day...
I was indeed thinking of a back cover replacement, and with an airbrushed-like look.
Aluminum cases produce Faraday cages (basically the device becomes shielded from radiation, including the wifi and 3g waves). Apple (first iPad 1 batches) and particularly Asus (Transformer Prime) have learnt that lesson at high costs.
doesn't the htc one that i mentioned earlier have an aluminum shell?

Xperia play antenna placement is probably not optimised for a metal housing. The Sony Xperia S would have more luck on that matter due to it's (semi) external antenna.
+1 on the antenna topic. I dismantled my Play once and the antennas are on the back, it would be a very bad idea to use an all-aluminium back cover, unless you don't use 3G, wifi, GPS, etc...
I wish they had use the chrome all around, not just the sides, even if its fake chrome.

You're kidding right? You actually want an all-chrome phone?
I'd actually rather see Xperia PLAY get a battery cover that's made out of a grip-improving non-glossy matte material (like what the Xperia X10 has).
The Xperia Play battery cover is one of the worst parts of the phone. It's flimsy, plain and it attracts grime like a magnet. They need to improve it badly in a second iteration...
My favorite battery cover was the one on the Huawei Selina. While the phone itself is a piece of crap, the cover is firm, nice to handle and easy to remove.
Except for the chrome strips on the sides (and they weren't that bad), my zte blade/orange san francisco had such a nice rubbery matte finish. i hope manufacturers finally do the sensible thing and shift to matte finishes...

Hybrid Armor Shockproof Tough

I bought this for $5 CAD from ebay and it's better than my crimson Otterbox Commuter case for OPO 3. This case offers much better drop protection and it has a deep camera cutout. It is bulkier than Otterbox but comes with better grip as well.
These are offered in various colours but i went with black.
How is the inner rubber quality ?

its a typical matte finish rubber. Its thick and smooth. cut outs are also perfect.
i bought it too this weekend for 3 usd i think on aliexpress.
Right before I buy this, how are the buttons on either side? How are the cutouts?
Some ebay cases I get make the buttons really hard to press.
Also, I use a metal plate to attach my phone to my car mount, do you think a very, very thin metal plate could wedge between the soft/hard casing? Sorry I can't provide a URL, but if you know what a "Spigen CD Slot Car Mount" looks like, you'll see the plate I'm referring to.
Appreciate it!

What cases are everyone using?

I haven't seen that many cases for this phone even on ebay or amazon. Just a handful... Which ones are you using? And how do you like them? Protection and appearance...
Havent found any good on amaxon either but if u like incepio u can check out there site they got like 4 available might be getting one.

Ive moved from a z3 compact and I had the same leather case for 2 years. Great quality and decent leather. Afte comparing lots of phone sizes I took a slight risk getting this iPhone6 plus sized one
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00NKFZYW6/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Only point is I slide my Z play in downwards so it's easier to grasp when pulling it out.
I like that pouch man. Super classy. How's the fit? Is it too tight or loose?
I was expecting it to be slightly too long as the iPhone6 plus is bigger but it's perfect. After having one for my old phone the pouch never gets loose enough for it to fall out. Prefer these cases to open ones so the screen is protected as well.
Looks good man. I may pick one up! It's perfect for the off hours... I also need something for work tho.. I work in an industrial setting and while I'd love to have the phone naked I need something hardcore in case I drop it. I've seen the Incipio ones, I may get one of those I guess... You'd think with the battery life this phone has it would have been a more popular model. But it seems like not too many people are picking it up
Had to order a Nillkin case of Aliexpress, as decent cases arent available yet on local sites.
Recently ordered mine shock proof case in Ali Express

-UPDATE-
This is the case: https://m.pt.aliexpress.com/item/32745245264.html
It hasn't arrived yet, but I think it's pretty neat, the phone seems to fit right into the case, so it doesn't make it that extra bulky, but it doesn't also fit a Mod back there.
I don't use a case. I use protector from the Gadgetshieldz. They act as my primary protection.
http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/moto-z-play-screen-protectors-covers-cases.html
didn't use case only screen protector
Ended up picking this one up for now. Protects the camera well has a decent lip over the screen for a slim case and it's a sticky kinda rubbery plastic so it won't fly out of my hands at work. It was also nice and cheap with prime shipping.

Are the leds in your flash of the same color/tone?
No they aren't. One is orange the other pale yellow...
Looks the same in the pics
You can see a slight difference in the first one. Color reproduction accuracy wasn't really a concern there haha

Ordered it but it hasnt arrived yet, but from the looks of it there seems to be a lip around the camera bump so should offer some protection.

Rear Back protector / sticker?

HI folks, I've found the back of my X Compact to be pretty bad at collecting scratches - much worse than my Lumia 720 (wish more manufacturers would copy that design idea of a replaceable body!!) Anyway, I want a protective and/or grippy sticker of some sort. Ebay and Amazon have nothing to offer so far as I can tell, apart from metal plates for magnetic dash mounts. Any ideas? I would have thought there would be some kind of rubber sticker you could buy but no luck. Any ideas?

Just type xperia x compact skinobi in amazon. They make full body skins for the phone. I think amazon only carries the clear and carbon fiber one though. You can also google skinobi and their website will pop up with more styles/options.

I am using a Cut it yourself type plastic screen protector i got from Walmart....it's flawless
Hi,
in germany there is a frim which produce curved foil for the front and backside :
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B06XZCD6ZG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The problem is, that die foil isnt hard. So if you have bubbles under the foil and you press to much, the foil get damaged. I try ist with a little less power and the last bubbles gone away from semself after 2 days. It protects the full screen und full backcover.
Greetings Kullino
I got this skin for the back of my phone, which makes it much easier to hold and resists fingerprints a lot better than the shiny back. It also came with stickers for the sides, but I just used the one for the back, which adds texture and friction.

sorry this took so long, here's the back sticker. I've actually now put on the additional ones on the sides for extra friction in my car dock (it was sliding down with each bump, but holds better now)

Very late response, but I've been using TPU case which protects back, sides, and gives a very small lip on front to keep screen off flat surface if laid on face.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M1HIQ5C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
case is soft and grippy, very happy with the result after 6 months.
very inexpensive <$10.
No need; apply wax polish. I used Novus Fine Scratch Remover (#2), but I would think car wax would work just as well. I used it to remove some marred patches from when I dropped the phone on hardwood floor and it skidded a bit, and not only did those patches disappear, but so did the fine scratches.
I don't think this would be wise for the screen, however, as it would probably harm the oleophobic coating.

Nillkin Moto Z4 Bumper Case

If anyone is on the hunt for a Moto mod compatible Bumper case, the Nillkin one from AliExpress mostly does the job.
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/dYBAbkFkJ
It's made from aluminium and has little TPU shock absorbers on the corners. I say it mostly works because the cutout for the USB type C cutout isn't large enough to fit any of my cables and only my Apple headphones will fit in the headphone jack cutout.
An unexpected benefit is that the case gets rid of the small gap between the phone and the Moto mods which makes it feel much better in the hand with the bumper on.
I'll post some photos when I get a chance.
My problem when I had this case for the z2 force, was that the clip holding the case together came undone easily, and broke from a 2 foot drop onto carpet.
I wish they had the Verizon bumper for the z4 as well, like they did for the z2.
Why not the CaseWe Z4 bumper on Amazon instead?

Must be newer, pretty sure it wasn't on there when I bought the phone. Lol. Since it's not a force edition, I went with the poetic revolution case. Loving it so far.
I got CaseWe bumper and I say it's good, but you can't use 360 cam nor VZ 5G module (it's not the bumper fault)
No problem with Moto Style Shell for Z3 (it fits Z4 100%)
I would get it but eveyrtime I order something on AliExpress, my orders are closed and I have no idea why.
I also bought the CaseWe. Works well with the 2200mhz battery pack and jbl speaker.
I have CaseWe too, so far so good. I used the metal bumper for my z2 force before but it reduced the reception of WiFi and GSM signal.
