H8276 Help with firmware change! - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

I just got my XZ2 (H8276) in Canada and no firmware update for it yet, I heard if you install the German firmware you get updates faster, is this possible for my H8276 and how would I go about doing it?

DON'T install the single Sim firmware on a dual Sim XZ2
Install the H8266 dual Sim, like me on my H8296.
Dualsim got a little bit different hardware and probably you will change the vendor driver partition with further normal single Sim firmware updates via Ota!

I'm not sure if I did something wrong but I tried the German customized firmware also the UK for the H8216 I didn't work my system didn't want to boot past the Sony logo on my H8276

The only one that would boot into the system was the original firmware using the Newflasher method

Why not using the H8266 firmware?
The H8266 is running fine on my H8296.

I have a H8276 Canadian model (not on the Android P beta compatibility list). Even after flashing one of the customized xperifirm FTF's changing it to H8216, Xperia Companion still sees my device as a H8276 (despite having H8216 shown under model name in the service info screen). Is there any workarounds to getting Android Pie on my device?
The error I see in Xperia Companion:
"UEGetPhoneInfoMissingInfo H8276 3546 1313-3413 R20A 51.1.A.11.51 2.1.12.0 / Windows 10 64 bit / Win32 / US"

Thanks for the reply. I understand it works for you because your device itself was H8296, and so regardless Xperia Companion still allowed you to flash the Developer Build. My situation is my device itself is H8276 which is not on the beta list, but even after flashing it to H8216 successfully (and usable), Xperia Companion still detected that my device was a H8276 and would not allow the Android P beta to be installed.
Question: Is there in any way without rooting, to successfully change where ever Xperia Companion detects my model number? There must be some other parameter somewhere that the normal firmware flash does not update.

Hello according to the setup guide book H8216/H8276 are basically the same because I also have H8276.

If it's any consolation, I'm having problems getting the Hong Kong firmware update. Looking at my proxy server logs it seems that I'm getting a 404 error:
TCP_MISS/404 835 GET http://software.sonymobile.com/ns/c...9946_200000000_1_HEuD3UGmWGzanNjFlaOyIhCr.bin - HIER_DIRECT/117.18.232.133 text/html
That .bin file is definitely not present, and it's causing the update process to fail. Very frustrating - as the non-Hong Kong firmware won't work with the NFC Octopus (similar to London Oyster cards) enabled SIM I have.

This entire problem shouldn't even be able to happen, it's like they don't test the download links before they push the updates.

If you cannot wait for the release of US version, you can go around by switch to German version T580XXU2APL4, the same build as US version.
It takes 2 hours to download from sammobile. Here is the one I flashed

It takes only over 2 minutes to flash, then update software via wifi. The download is about 800MB, only about 5 minutes
Then finally I have Nougat for SM-T580. It's very easy to flash back when US version is available. Note: the German version is official firmware
so the status of the software is official. This procedure is not recommended to whoever not familiar with flashing firmware via Odin
Tablets sold in Europe or Asia are the same one as in US, firmware and software only be customized for certain region. So there is no differences if you flash firmware
from different region to your tablet. You just need to select English as your choice of language.
It works!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't matter where you are, Samsung servers only recognize a tablet by product code, country code and build number.
You live in Asia with a tablet's Germany firmware, it still be able to update newest firmware. I live in US and don't have any problem
to update, after the moment I checked for update, it downloaded immediately .
This is a Germany build, and it only checks available updates for that firmware based on country code XXU

Newsflasher 11 does work (thanks!) but make sure you turn of driver signing enforcement in Windows before you try it - I struggled to get it working until I did this. I copied the replacement firmware without any .ta files.

Only .exe if You are using Windows. And as I remember older versions there were always 5-7 files (except v10 test versions), but only one was used - .exe for Windows other for Linux and Android (so not needed by Windows).

I have the model H8216 (XZ2) and i flashed the Customized_IT version (no brand) because i bought the phone from an operator and it has brand fw installed. I didn't found any settings for volte, it was there on the operator fw. I like the customized because the updates coming every month and it is without operators bloatware... And often on operator fw there are bugs and other problems...
Is there any chance that someone will do the exact instructions on how to do it? I also have software from the operator

Pie update, cannot unlock bl

Hi. I have buyed Xz2 with CE1 fw... Problem is that I want pie, and it wasn't released for CE1. Then I tryed to flash DE pie fw using flash tool, but there wasn't any fsc for 52. Fw, so I just used 51.1 fsc. That bringed me red flag... Then I flashed DE oreo, and using Xperia Companion updated to DE Pie.
But now I got problem. When I try unlock bootloader I get error Remote command not allowed.
In developer settings is OEM Unlockinng greyed and cannot be enabled. In service menu is Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes.
What should I do to unlock bootloader?

Idk why, it ask me for drivers. N (already installed)
Then it ask me for ta backup. Tried Y. Ta isn't backed up, just empty file created.
Trued N, newflasher hangs and doesn't even read any file from HDD (taskmgr disk usage)
But my problem solved. Many people have grayed that oem unlocking option in pie update, it should be fixed with next ota. (05.11.18)

Galaxy Note 9 Japan Model SC-01L

Hello,
I have a Galaxy Note 9 from Japan, model SC-01L from DOCOMO carrier (unlocked).
I need to know if I can flash another stock firmware on this device from another country.
For ex. flash any ROM of the SM-N960U from US.
Well, its a model based on the Snapdragon. Any problem or observation about the modem or bootloader?
Could someone help me?
Cheers,

Ops, the image links.
Wow what a strange phone indeed:
https://whatismyphone.com/vendors/docomo/galaxy-note-9-sc-01l
its a snapdragon. SO no idea if its anything like the n9600 or the american n960u
in both cases, i dont think you will be able to simply flash with odin any other csc firmware.
if you can root it(if it is like the n9600) then you could probably get the csc file on there manually. thats whay i do with my korean N960n , i put canadian carrier files on it manualy.
anyways good luck! (you'll be needing it..lol)

No, it doesn't work.
I've tried to flash US unbranded N960U1 (XAA) firmware on my SC-01L (Docomo) using modded/patched Odin and It will just fail.
However, I did manage to flash SCV40 (AU KDDI) firmware on my SC-01L (Docomo) without any issues. It's less bloatware compared to Docomo's Firmware maybe?
No issues with the modem, can make calls and SMS. APN auto-detected and able to use NFC.
Hope this helps!

Can I root and install custom recovery in this device? I just want to run latest custom roms.

Are you receiving updates? What is the country you are using the phone in?

I don't think there's anymore security updates for Note 9... the phone is already 5 years old and obsolete.

I didn't try to flash TWRP at that time and I've sold the phone long time ago. As there's no custom roms available for Japan Snapdragon variant.
