Hotspot issue: works internet for the connected devices but not for the p20 - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

As said in the title, when I use my p20 pro as Hotspot for my laptop internet works fine on it but seems disconnected for the phone. Any ideas why this happen? I tried to change option in my device but it seems to behave the same way.

Phone connection off when Hotspot on [P20 Pro]
Got a new P20 Pro. I experienced the same problem as stated on the subject.
Any solution out there?

Same Problem
I have exactly the same issue. Whenever hotspot no internet connection works on the phone, but all the connected devices have access (already tested with 10+ devices)

doogee X5 max pro Hotspot without internet

Are you connected to mobile data when you turn on the hotspot? Does mobile data internet work for your hotspot device?

VPN connecting issues

Well ... it seems that i have some issues connecting to a VPN server (manual connection, from Network Connections -> More Network Connections -> VPN).
I cannot connect to it from Note 8, while i can succesfully connect from Note 4 (same networks, same router, same configurations).
On Note 8 i am on N950FXXU1AQI1 fw.
I had even Factory reset it and tried again, but without success.
I am adding server log for both note 8 (red) and note 4 (green).
Can someone try to see if it works (manual VPN, PPTP type)?
-------------------
Later update: tried AnyConnect as well (to a eneterprise VPN that i use) and it DOES NOT work as well (connection failed), while on Note 4 it works without a hickup.
So it seems, that at least for me, i cannot connect to ANY VPN network, which is an major issue for me.
I've had issues with my note 8 vpn as well. I usually have VyprVpn and PureVPN. The connection is a hit or miss really. And when it does connect, it starts with no connection and then network speeds up but slowly.
Hope this helps.
i understand, but i am forced to use that VPN app as i a company constraint (AnyConnect is CISCO VPN - weidly spread in companies).
While the Android Default VPN should work out of the box ...
VPN
I use pulse secure to vpn to the company intranet.
well ... factory reseted one more time, and all is working ... really strange ..
Turn off power saving
I know this is an old thread, but I just ran across this issue myself and found that if I turn off power saving the VPN works well. I hope you had already found this or another solution.

Strange network issues

Got my P20 Pro yesterday and mostly seems really good but I'm having some network issues that I'm hoping someone can enlighten me on.
Connects to WiFi no problem, internet is all ok but apps that connect to devices on my local network aren't seeing the devices. Harmony is one of them - it scans my network but doesn't find either of my Logitech harmony hubs - if I add them via their up manually then it connects but then thinks they are on an external network so connects through the cloud.
My DS apps are also not able to find my Synology server when scanning - I can input the IP address and it will connect but the server never shows when scanning the network for devices.
Is it going to be that the apps are the problem and they don't work properly with the P20 Pro - I struggle to think that's the problem, it seems like a network discovery issue on the phone, some protocol thats disabled or some onboard firewall that's hidden that it blocking local traffic on certain ports?
Anyone with any ideas would be great as I'm at a loss right now and thinking the phone will have to go back if it can't do these basic things...

Allow location for those apps, it's a Oreo thing
Same problem
Hi, I also have this problem with my p20 pro where a lot of internal services are not reachable when I'm on wifi... For example my synology diskstation, my smart home system Loxone, my Logitech Squeezebox Server and so on... And not only from the apps, also not in the browser... This is very strange and I'm not sure why this is not working...
In Oreo no app whatsoever can scan wifi if not allowed location services.
Hi,
I'm still having these issues...when I do a traceroute for a local IP it just won't get a route / no hops. But....my DSL line dropped out this week and I had to physically disconnect my FritzBox from the DSL line and all of a sudden all the different apps facilitating local things worked like a charme....back online again it stops working again.
I'm in IT for over 15 years and I haven't found a solution for this yet...this is really bugging me!
Anyone else has similar issues or found a solution in the meantime?
Could you solve this problem?

P30 Pro Wi-Fi Hotspot problems

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my new P30 Pro. When I create a Hotspot in 5ghz frequency, no other device can find that Hotspot. If I change frequency to 2.4ghz then other devices can connect to the network. Maybe others have the same problem? Or my device is faulty ?
BTW when I'm connecting to Wi-Fi, either 2.4 or 5ghz, everything works fine
Maybe it uses a channel, that your other devices do not see. I think different regions use different wifi channel ranges. Maybe you find an option for that somewhere in advanced wifi settings.
I just tried on mine. My laptop pics up the hotspot on the P30 Pro no matter if it's 5 or 2.4GHz, no problem.

I didn't find any advanced settings regarding channel ranges / regions.
BTW my phone is C431 if it's good or not, I don't know. I remember C432 used to be the best region code, if you could say so. My P20 pro is C432.
How the problem started, I bought P30 Pro, opened phone clone app, I wanted to transfer data wirelessly from one phone to another. But devices didn't connect, tried multiple times. After that I started experimenting with 2.4 ghz or 5ghz Hotspot. And found out that other devices can't find 5ghz frequency.

My laptop sees 5ghz Hotspot, but can't connect to it. P20 Pro, honor 8, nexus 6P can't even see that. Samsung S10 can connect to 5ghz. It's very strange
EMUI 9.1.0.153 resolved the issue
Nope, it didn't. I'm still having problems - my notebook can see the hotspot, and can connect to it, but the phone just won't share the internet connection.
Bluetooth is turned on, and bluetooth tethering as well, 2.4 or 5 GHz.
I tried USB tethering. Tried apps from the store. Always the same thing - notebook can see the hotspot, but internet is not working. Any ideas? The notebook is Asus Rog G751. I'm on 9.1.0.1.178.
Same here. Laptop works on home 5ghz, but wont even see p30 pro 5ghz, its strange
Worst part is, 3 months ago it was working. Since I don't use it except when travelling, I have no idea what could have changed in the mean time.
In my case, max user connections was limited.
- press "Show advanced options"
- press "Max connections allowed"
- increase the value

Hi guys,
what network cards are your PC using?
Mine has a Killer Wireless 1535 built in and I can confirm this problem:
P30 (pro) switched to 5 GHz hotspot mode and PC cannot find it.
I think I may have found a reason for it, which needs to be resolved by a manufacturer (Huawei or a network adapter manufacturer - no idea if only Killer is affected):
The Huawei P30 (pro and normal model) seems to default the broadcast channel to channel #149 (5.745 MHz) when switched to 5 GHz hotspot mode.
This is a DFS channel in the only recently approved new upper channel range.
Apparently the killer 1535 cannot or cannot use these channels yet.
Actually it won't see it first. Then, when changing connection mode in the adapter property, it is found.
But after inserting the ssid password, access is not allowed and ssid vanishes from list.
Just like a restriction to invalid channels.
The broadcast on 5 GHz itself works, which I proved with another P30 which can access the AP of the first one.
However my notebooks (all using Killer Wireless cards) as well as a Samsung tablet can't.
So resolution could be:
1. Killer adapts its drivers or
2. Huawei defaults to a 5 GHz broadcast channel in lower, more common, 5 GHz band between ch7 and ch60 e. g.
(Or adds a user-accessible menue allowing selection of broadcast channel.)

wifi hotspot traffing filtering

Hello everyone on this forum!
I have an issue with my P20 Pro when using wifi hotspot, or I think it's releated to my phone. To the point...
Sometimes I have to use wifi hotspot from my p20 pro to share internet access to my work laptop. Basically, if I'm at home office I use VPN to connect to internal network of my work place, so I can access internal recources. And everything is working when using hotspot except one program which uses SQL database. On phone wifi hotspot I can't access this database and it looks like my phone is blocking traffic related to this database. Database is giving me error that I'm not connected to internal network. I tried to reset network setting, still the same problem. I checked on some other phones:
google pixel 4a - database access OK,
huawei P20 lite - no database access,
any other non-phone hotspot network - database access OK.
Any segestion why this is happening?
Try usb tether and switching to 5Ghz (if possible on notebook side). Sounds like some routing issues but if you tried resetting already then I don't suppose you'll be able to resolve that.
