No hdmi like Lg G7 - LG V40 Questions & Answers

Only as an informative note, the V series of lg was characterized by continuing to have the slimport hdmi connectivity, the lg v30 has it, however the lg6 does not have it as if it had the lg g5. At the moment the 2 range tops of lg, that is, lg g7 and lg v40 no longer have hdmi connection by usb c, you can only get the image via miracast. Another fact to keep in mind is that the lg g7 has usb c 3.1 and lg v40 has usb c 2.0 compatible with 3.1, but that of v40 is NOT 3.1. a greeting

Appears not. But then again, I never used the cable I had with my V30. I will say, microsoft display adapters are pretty cheap, almost as cheap as the cable. (assuming your TV does not support miracast natively).

Where do you find that USB 2.0?

Maybe in the future. As far as I know it's disabled in the kernel. The kernel source seems to be broken for some reason. I'm getting a cable that can debug it and hopefully fix it. I only have the g7 but the kernel is almost the same for the v40.

So I use "screencast" with my V30 to my LG SmartTV. It works great. I am not sure I will ever need HDMI in this case.
However it seems odd that they would "revert" the USB spec from 3.1 to 2.0? I guess its not a huge deal but not sure why they would do that. I DO want to make sure the V40 would do OTG so I can connect it directly to my DAC audio device if I get this phone.

No but I was able to fix the kernel.

Mine LG V40 LM-V405UA does have the HDMI output and work very well surprisingly even the landscape & portrait mode switches quite fast .
Its great for watching movies and stuff . I just added a bluetooth keyboard and mouse because the adapter I have allows charging while watching or playing games on it and NOW I have a 43 inch Phone . Which is kinda cool
FYI the adapter i bought a long time ago for my HTC U12+ and it works for it as well |My adapter has HDMI Power and USB3.0 port but never did get the USB port to work on either phone so just added a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and good to go. I also added my Nvidia Shield Game controller(2017) version and that even works good. so I am all good .
Like I notice someone else say that annoying button you can NOT assign anything to it is a waste of a button.

Here are a few pictures I took this morning using the V40ThinQ on my 42 inch westing house tv.
This tv is NOT a smart tv so can not do miracast to it hardwire only.
If you look closely you can see the adapter i am using on it and it works well .
I even opened a couple apps I use like Cinema HD and Mobdro to watch movies and what ever channel i wanna watch all over the world.
I took these pictures with my HTC U12+

It doesn't seem to be working for me. Did you get the message that says it's not supported and you have to use Miracast?

Fake... Displaylink is not displayport

I did not do anything to the phone it self its all factory OS and NON root or bootloader unlocked.
I am using factory UI there is NO special software installed at all except my movie and tv show programs.
I have every App that is installed from factory still there but disabled if it can bee and also all data running in background for every app turned off as well .
It took a while to set every app data setting but its much more efficient on the battery mine lasts for a couple days with out recharge.
As for the phone display being on I have NOT found a setting anywhere that I could turn it off and the other question.
NO I HAVE NOT AT ANYTIME GOTTEN THE ERROR not supported THE TV I USED DOES NOT HAVE MIRACAST ITS JUST A 42 INCH WESTINGHOUSE TV I BOUGHT FROM MICRO CENTER A FEW MONTHS AGO ( ITS NOT A SMART TV )
I think maybe the error you might be getting might have something to do with the type of adapter you are trying to use ( just a thought ).
the adapter i am using does NOT have any markings on it of any kind to tell me what model # it might be . |BUT I did post to the person where I bought it from in an earlier posting.

The note hs HDMI over MHL.
So you need to buy the cable
Yes I know it has hdmi out as I have found that on Google and eBay I'm talking about standard old Samsung TV out via 3.5mm so I can use it with my vuzix wrap

Yes it supports TV out. You need to buy an MHL adapter though. That said, it works like a charm. However, it does bog down the performance of the device (except when playing movies) because it's having to do the processing for two displays instead of one. Playing games, or web browsing, etc will be noticeably slower. However, if all you're using it is for media output, you should have no problems.
You can usually get your hands on an MHL adapter for about $20 or less.
I'm thinking about buying a HDMI MHL "cable", but have anyone here tried this one or this one? Do we need a specific MHL cable, or can we use all of them?
Edit: Found the original Samsung MHL cable for 20 Euros, so i think i'll go with that instead. It says its for SII and Galaxy Nexus, so i guess it'll work with the Note too.

Either of the one that you listed should work just fine. There's really little/no difference between those and the official Samsung one because MHL is an open standard, and hence will be compatible across many different platforms and vendors.
OK! Thanks
Now, here's a tip for possibly getting your official Samsung MHL adapter for free: Go to your local AT&T store and ask the rep if they still have the accessories for their Infuse 4G display unit. Normally they send those all back to corporate, but if you're lucky, they may still have theirs, and since corporate just throws them away anyhow, the store had no issues with just giving me their spare MHL adapter for free
I set it up with external power but couldn't get it to work. The phone switched to CLOCK.
Would a cheap $11 eBay MHL adapter work well or do we have to fork out $40 for the Samsung one?

I bought a (what would be about) $9usd cable in a small store in Hong Kong, and it works perfectly.
You have to plug the power part in first (I have a power bank thing which works well), then the micro usb into the phone, and then the phone will start outputting. Don't just plug in the microusb->hdmi and then the power, that didn't work for me and I spent a while trying to figure it out. I haven't noticed any additional lag at all.
Everything is displayed. When the phone is in portrait mode (e.g. launcher) the TV will have lots of black on either side. When playing videos landscape, it takes up the full tv screen. Sound is also output.
my tv does not have hdmi and only have the traditional red/yellow/white input. Is there any cable to connect my note to my old fashioned tv?
You can probably get some kind of HDMI to component converter, but with hdmi being digital the signal will need to be converted to analog so it will be expensive.

the price you will pay for that best you buy a new tv because the convertor sucks trust me when i say so..... a proper convertor will run 100 bucks plus even then the tv can handle the HD res so it will flicker and blank in and out or dont shows at all... spend 129 and get a nice 27" or higher native hdmi monitor...

Well, now you have one more reason. Also, a 15" CRT (ie. the old-style tube) TV consumes several times more electricity than even a 40" LCD/LED one so you're only doing a disservice to yourself by using it.
How to turn off screen using hdmi out? as battery consumption is so high even the charger cant keep up when streaming video.
I'm also having problems with my MHL adapter.
I bought this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005KJYMSC/ref=oh_o00_s02_i00_details
from amazon, as it was cheap says specifically it is compatible with the Note.
But it doesn't work, my TV just says no signal. I have the charger plugged into it, I have my 3g turned off. Everything seems right, but it wont work. I'm rather annoyed.
I have a feeling, that despite it saying so on the listing, it is infact not compatible with the Note. It says on the packaging max resolution 1280x720p... so that could well be the problem.
Moral of the story, buy the official Samsung one and save yourself the bother!
Guys,
I would like to connect my note to my car radio (7 inch screen) which has video in RCA cable.
I bought this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261025098138&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
However, it does not work when I try it on my TV. It says 'no signal'. I was told by the seller that the Note does not have the TV out option as opposed to the S2 for example. I've checked the specs on the samsung galaxy website (TV out for S2, no TV out for Note in the connectivity list).
So, is there a specific cable like MHL to RCA that I could use?
Thanks
I got the original samsung mhl adapter from a very nice fellow here on xda for $10 shipped, he had a bunch of them he was giving away, I tried it on my S2 (Note on CM9 doesn't do MHL) and other note was broken.
Once I get both my notes back I can update the thread with more info.

Samsung works great
I bought the one from Samsung original, amazing 1080p quality, best I ever saw on my 40 inch television.
It's the one that samsung offers for S2 and S3 and it works really perfect, no lag, no glitches and it gives amazing high quality.

Is there a way to wirelessly mirror content? I think the SGS3 can do this with a special apparatus or something.

I retried it and great video and audio. Sorry. But only in 720P. My TV it's HD-Ready and not FULL-HD.
My MHL adapter it's a simple model compatible with GS2 and I bought on eBay one year ago. I payed it only 10 euros.
I can see some of you having success in display it on the TV
but I have try two different MHL adapter (I dont know if it is for S2 or S3 but I can;t seem to get it work on a computer monitor with HDMI
are there any sitting I need to change or apps that I need to install???
Maybe some settings in the hidden menu will do the trick for those where it doesn't work (not tested, since I don't own a MHL-Adapter)
Type: 3845#*880# in the phone app and the hidden menu will open. Scroll to the end and choose "HDMI Resolution Test"
There are some Settings, maybe something will make the Adapter work
will try
Hey,
I am occurring the same problem, and its annoying, but credit to Hidden92 in the "resolution" menu under "HDMI Resolution Test" , i have changed resolution to any of them and only once the email on my Samsung TV appeared.
Also i have noticed that the settings that i am selecting doesnt saved and each time i am getting into "HDMI Resolution Test" menu , the settings rolled back to default.
Well...
Anyway , you should try to do this , the less it will work for you
=====EDIT======
I have managed to Play movies using MHL cable.
it has been some connector problem, i have moved the cable abit left to right and it begin to work.
Hey MrWunderbaum,
I own 4X and using Generic MHL cable 1080p that was bough for 15$.
Everything works fine.
You should try.
In Addition, LG owns their own MHL cables , but they are abit more expensive.
I tried and mhl 3M cable that is supposed to charge the cell phone while you project, but the problem is that it must be connected to energy to work. the cable is supposed to be designed for samsung SIII and SII
Sorry for hijacking this thread a little bit and pardon my rant.
Not too long ago i bought a mini HDMI to HDMI cable for my Optimus 3D. But now im using 4X, I can't help but feel i've been f**king trolled by LG somewhat cause that cable i had is now utterly useless. Instead they are using this MHL cable.
i mean, why can't they put a mini HDMI port for the good of saving the planet and our wallets like what they are doing for microUSB?
I've got few questions in mind. Are they going to introduce another cable for their next line-up? Is this MHL port here to stay? Nobody wants to spend 30 bucks buying a cable and to have it put out of the picture by the time he change phone next year.

MHL will stay I guess. Mini-HDMI is actually quite useless, it is necessary to add an additional port to the phone for something that can be done using the already existing one (less places where dust can get into the device). The only problem is the high price for MHL cables (The mini-HDMI adapter for my O2X was about 3€).
Cheap and good
I use this: http://goo.gl/13LEr
Play 1080p and Netflix for HD TV very well.
I have ordered myself S2 mhl adapter that also has seperate charging port. I dont need long wire as i already have long hdmi cable connected to tv, so i just needed smaller adapter to connect to tv hdmi cable. Hope it works - mhl + charging

Smart dock or adapter for the LG G2

Not sure if this came up in another thread, but as I was contemplating a new phone, one of my main draws to the Samsung Galaxy S4 (or Note 3) was the existence of their smart dock accessory which essential allows you to hook up a hard drive, keyboard, mouse, and display to your phone for a complete desktop experience. Of course, I ended up with the LG G2 because it won me over on many other fronts. Now, having done some research, it doesn't appear that anything like this smart hub exists out there that would support such simultaneous connectivity to the G2. I realize our phone supports Slimport, and from the Analogix website, the slimport standard does indeed support pass through of USB slave or OTG connections, so it is entirely possible. Now, I realize the Nexus 4 kicked off the Slimport standard and from what I've read, it did not natively support OTG so I imagine such a smart dock was never conceived for that phone. If anyone has any more info beyond what I've found, do share! Seeing that LG is so eager to follow the Samsung blueprint, I contacted them with an inquiry to support a smart dock/connector type accessory. I also plan to contact Analogix. I would urge anyone here interested in such a dock to at least hit up LG with a request. If they intend to reach the sales numbers they announced, and for this phone to be a flagship like the S4, seems like this would be a no-brainer accessory.

It is truly annoying that OEMs don't include basic features like the possibility to use usb otg and hdmi simultaneously in their phones. Not to mention removable batteries and micro sd card slots.

Hello kyler13,
I am also looking for a smartdock for the g2, so I decided to bring this thread up from the abyss.
Did you find anything useful yet?
I found one at amazon, but I'm not too sure if it will work on the g2
i am not allowed to post links so just google this:

I'm guessing this would not work since it's MHL and not Slimport. From what I've seen not all MHL devices are compatible with Slimport. It would be great if this one is though, but it's hard to say from the specs.
how many ampere does it produce? is it bigger than the fast charge charger of G2?

Type-C (USB 3.1) and hdmi out

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking about this phone, but my first priority is to be able to connect it via cable with my Pioneer AppRadio (I know there is miracast, chromecast etc - been there, tried both, sound quality with compression is really low).
As this device has USB 3.1 - would any adapter work?
I can't seem to find exact answers if all usb 3.1 type-c devices support hdmi out (or some sort of mhl).
Thanks
I'm also interested in this. Did anyone check if MHL or Slimport is working on Z2 pro?
Hi,
After looking in this site http://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_zuk_z2-8125.php, i can see that this is a usb 2 adapter with a type-c connector.
They also don't mention mhl/hdmi so this means that it is probably not supported.
I don't think there is any relation between usb and mhl or hdmi.
Hope this helps.
I did read somewhere it only supports wifi direct as display output but I can not find my source
It can work, because we can have it with USB 3.1, but we need drivers/settings inside a kernel and custom rom.
I have a usb 3.1 type C module who give me charge, usb 3.0 port and hdmi port, actually, only USB 3.0 port work.
The point is , it's getting harder and harder to find a good phone with 4/4+ GB RAM with video out support. No one really knows why they're moving away from this tech even if it's cheap and easy to implement. Some people say they're trying to promote wireless connectivity, others say having those powerful phones support video out will eventually prevent people from buying entry-level laptops. Anyhow, it's weird. If you know of any device with 4 or more GB of RAM (Sony's devices excluded) that support video out, please let us know!
HTC 10 and LG G5 both support HDMI out.

I forgot to exclude LG too. After G2, their flagships are a disappointment, one way or another.
Anyway, thanx for the info, I didn't know HTC 10 supports it.

Question Usb 2.0 again?

Does mi11 support hdmi out via usb-c dongle or Xiaomi is still on usb 2.0 like it's the year 2000?
It's Type C 2.0
Disgusting.
I can understand for lower end phones, but not for something you market as "flagship killer"
No flagship phone on this planet comes with tech from 20 years ago
Yes, I've got Xiaomi 11
That's a shame. Mi 11 was supposed to be the one without compromise
Taking the piss to save 5$
Nice, no USB-C 3.x / no VideoOut... Come on Xiaomi... What year is it? Even OnePlus devices have 3.x now... What a shame... Next phone will be an OnePlus :/
dealbreaker

I have but sure some's tv not have wireless display.
You could try DisplayLink
I'm close to buy one of these adapters. On youtube there are few videos that show how fast is that and you can play android games on TV with no lag.
Display Link doesn't even come close to direct hdmi dongle.
usb 2.0 in 2021..a disgrace. can't be called "Flagship" killer with tech from 20 years ago
