Whats the possibility of being able to root the T-Mobile variant just normally in the near future? (Without hardware mods)
Is it being worked on?

I don't think that it will be available in near future

So you managed to root the tmobile variant with a little soldering? I wouldn't mind doing that. Is there a guide on how to do this? I've been dying to root my tmobile V40

Not little Needs completely remove memory chip and write to it directly. Flash eng boot and magisk directly. Stock Fastboot is useless even in unlocked state

Damn vlaaad, you killed all of our hopes in one post.

Any hope 2020nwill see root for Tmobile V40?

What is your need to root with Android 10 now available for this model?

Er...I'm thinking Viper4Android maybe? I won't even use a phone period that does not have Viper installed. I consider it useless I need my music above all else.

With Android 10, this phone does not need rooting. The quad DAC and native sound settings negate the need for V4A. If the sole decision to root is to install V4A, then you need an unlocked or international V40. You're SOL with the T-Mobile version.
Here's a decent review of the native sound settings:

According to who? Not to the audiophile not even remotely close. Laughable actually. I was however nearly able to reproduce V4A quality sound by using onboard audio with Jet Player and with all 5 Jet Player addons installed and running. Then I added a 6th outstanding EQ app. With all 6 apps running concurrently you can nearly equal v4A if you tweak it all just right. Photo shows the 5 Jet Audio addons which you can engage. They all can be found here:

It's pretty darn close I have another rooted phone with V4A to compare to.

Root is usefull if you want more storage available by installing a custom rom, freeing the phone of bloatware, installing custom kernels, freeing from thermal throttle.

the main reason that I want to root my T-Mobile LG V40 is because the annoying airplane prompt message when I turn it on .

Airplane prompt as in it being stuck in Airplane Mode?
Go to Settings > System > About Phone > Software Info.
Does it show Android 10, August 1 2020 security patch?

I 100 percent agree. I have rooted and installed custom roms on every phone I have used. I am definitely a minimalist when it comes to my phone, and I abhor bloatware. I hate most of the google suite of garbage that just sucks up battery and cpu cycles. I bought my phone used and wasn't paying close attention to the fact that this submodel has onerous restrictions on rooting. My bad I guess... live and learn.
What exactly is the problem with rooting this phone? I thought it was just a given that any android phone could be rooted. I didn't think it was like trying to crack Denuvo....

Seems like the bootloader for the TMO variant is unlockable. As for ROMs, there is nothing based on Android 10. A handful of ROMS here at XDA and they're for Pie. Lineage has an Anroid 10 ROM one but you have to be on Android Pie firmware. So if you've already taken TMO's Android 10 OTA, you're SOL. This is the wrong phone to have if you want to root. I've had to root my previous phones (HTC One M8, HTC 10, HTC U11, ZTE Axon 7) to get the best use out of them. This one, however, is so good in stock form that there is little incentive to root it.

I have the US unlocked variant of the V40 and all the old firmwares KDZ are downgradable which is awesome so I can always go to pie and unlock bootloader then root or go back to oreo so I have the out of the box performance and speed since the phone was released on Oreo

Yea look at samfail page.
Verify what softwear version you are on and use appropriate version,
There is no root for 8.0 so you will have to downgrade to a older U3 bootloader to root if on 8.0
Ok Im on oreo 8.0, I have never rooted this phone but looking at the steps on samfail its 3 different versions of it and what im getting is you have to flash them in order but someone says just flash samfailv3, can some one please tell me what bootloader i need, the proper steps, just a complete walkthrough because i dont wanna mess my phone up and i wanna make sure im doing this correctly, thanks in advance or at least tell me what all i need instead of directing me to samfail thread, its alot going on in that thread and my brain cant process it all.

This is essentially a RTFM situation. You won't find much help unless you can actually demonstrate something. If you were stuck at a particular step, someone could help you, but you are asking for a walk through for just the first step.
Yes those mods are available to rooted note 8's but do you know how to apply them, or would you be right back here asking for a step-by-step guide for that as well?
Please don't think I (or anyone) is trying to be mean here. You just need to do your own research and figure it out, and if you brick your phone, you brick your phone. That is how many of us learned.
Come back with some actual questions and you will get actual answers. That said, your "how-to" has already been written here
Basically you need to figure out which firmware you have installed, downgrade via ODIN if not compatible, follow the rest of the steps using ODIN, and you'll have root. If you've rooted a Samsung device before this should not be difficult for you.
STAYING STOCK and safe.
Over the years, the only two reasons I would root my Android phone:
Get rid of ads
Hotspot
With the Note-8, you can modify the settings and get hotspot to work w/out rooting...........there's a thread out there for instructions.
I found an app that controls/eliminates the ads via VPN, runs in the background with very little battery drainage if any at all.
You can also download DnsChanger(Open Source) from the PlayStore and use these DNS Servers from AdGuard to block advertisements, tracking, and phishing globally on your phone.

There's no advantage to root unless you have a custom recovery. Also you don't need root to run custom ROMs, a custom recovery will do all you need, plus most ROMs come rooted.
Point is, I'd rather have a custom recovery over root. The custom recovery will fix a bootloop, flash ROMs, themes, apps and maybe one or two things I'm forgetting.
Lastly, I'm not seeing any custom recoveries for carrier locked Note 8s. Heck, unless I'm missing something, I'm seeing anything for unlocked ones.

What's the latest on Unlocking the XZ3 Bootloader - DRM (EU model - Feb 19)

While I found some good info in the 'state of root for the XZ3' Q&A, that does not work well using the XDA Labs app, and I want to be sure I know what's going on before I do something stupid.
To my understanding from a news update on XDA here, the XZ3 camera does not break when unlocking. So, here are the steps I believe I need to take (EU version from Clove)
1) Unbox, connect to my wifi and run the updates. Update level I need is at least 52.0.A.84.
2) Checkbox for unlocking now available (under development section). Unlock the bootloader. (camera works after this)?
3) Update firmware to 52.0.A.126 via xperafirm
If I want TWRP / Root
4) Install TWRP per instructions (I read that this breaks Camera again)
5) Install TWRP camera fix
6) Install Magisk and the module to fix DRM.
As I understand it, even the DRM fix will not bring back some of the Sony stuff - Triluminous display settings, xreality, dynamic contrast enhancer, LDAC audio? and dolby ATMOS? If anyone can test those and see if they work, that'd be awesome.
Are my steps correct? Am I missing anything?
TIA!

It is the unlocking step that breaks the camera, not TWRP/Magisk.

Triluminos/X-Reality/Dynamic contrast are arguably "features" that you'd rather lose than keep. In 7 years of owning Xperia devices I have never used them. There is a generic "super-vivid" mode that replaces X-Reality after unlocking the boot loader:

LDAC doesn't appear to be affected, although I don't have a suitable device to test it with:
As for Atmos, I think I uninstalled that app immediately, and it looks like it's not available as an apk that I could find easily so I can't test it for you. I think it's unaffected by the unlock, though.
Glancing over at the camera fix thread on the XZ2 forum, it looks like 163 is safe to flash (instead of 126), but 202 is unknown. If you're unlocking anyway, you might want to test it and report back whether the camera fix still works on 202. If it doesn't, you can always use Newflasher to downgrade to 163. For the time being, I'm holding off on flashing anything as the main two things I would like are Resurrection Remix and a working port of GCam with Night Sight, both of which are unavailable for the XZ3 as of writing.

Right, sorry. I meant to ask... from my reading the camera 'shouldn't' break. I suppose it's okay if it does as long as I can fix it.

Bingo! I would LOVE to have RR, or maybe Slim available.. and yeah, a working GCAM would be amazing.
Hoping as prices fall this device gets in the hands of some more folks in the modding community... not that I have any complaints with all the work that @MartinX3 and others are providing!
Working GCam will only be on AOSP-based ROMs like Lineage and RR, and depends on full Camera2 support.
So, it is officially supported by SONY https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader/
but which one are up to now the benefit we can get?

The warning is full of 'ifs' and 'may bes'. Honestly, there isn't much to dislike about Sony's ROM, so I really only want the unlocked bl to root and remove Facebook.
Root is becoming less of a requirement in my eyes, but you may find some need for it.

I love that stock but I installed NOVA as now we lost also the themes...
I would get a better camera support as for the GCAM. The quality of the shoots of XZ3 is really poor. I did a comparison with my R1 and it is top-down everything.
Just an update to my original post - .126 is the current US custom version. Because I want to use VOLTE on Tmobile, I'll be using that for my base. I'd like to update to 202, but I'll need to wait for Sony to catch up
Camera Noise reduction isnt affected?
Unlocking under 202 does not affect
Hello! I'm researching which camera features are missing after unlocking this device. What I found out is: We have full Camera 2 support including RAW. So is everything fine now or is the image quality still not as good as on an unlocked device? I can't find any comparison photos.
What I also don't know yet is: Is good photo quality bound to the sony camera app or some driver or service?
Also I read about upgrading or downgrading the firmware to a target firmware to save keys for future use. I found no way to do this without unlocking the bootloader first.
my phone get bootloader unlocked no a can unlokin or not

Just bought Mi 9 Lite and I have some questions

Everytime I have had an android smartphone, I unlocked and rooted straight away. I know what benefits unlocking the bootloader and rooting the ROM bring to the whole experience of using the smartphone but I have never actually looked or thought about the negative effects of unlocking and rooting.
I just received my Mi 9 Lite last night and I am just about the unlock its bootloader and get Magisk flashed. But before I do that, I am interested in people's opinion about what they think of rooting their phone.
- Can I root the stock ROM without unlocking the bootloader? I have heard this is possible but no idea how! If yes, does it have any limitations or is it the same as rooting after unlocking the bootloader?
- Does anyone have any other valid reason for not unlocking their device except warranty and maybe system updates? They always warn you about security, system updates and finger print sensors not working etc... is this true?
About the system updates, usually Xiaomi publishes the flashable ROM on their website which I can download and flash it manually so I don't have to worry about missing out on ROM updates.
Warranty wise, I am not too concerned either.
Security wise, I don't think this is an issue too as I always know what I would be flashing and installing on my phone.
Thank you.
I used some rooted device before . Don't no what you need, but, with this phone WITH NO ROOT, it's possible to uninstall or freeze some app, using blokada, you can stop/ block many thing.... and keep a clean and fresh device, with no mod, like out of the box ; )
I'm also getting this phone, can anyone from Europe confirm if Mi 9 Lite supports Carrier Aggregation? (LTE+)

AT&T SM-G975U on Android 9 - "Current software is up to date"?

I've had an AT&T Galaxy S10+ sitting in a box since the beginning of last year that I finally decided to open up and use. For some reason when I run the software updater in the settings it always says that it is up to date even though the latest security patch was from March 2019 and it's still on Android 9. My other AT&T S10+ that I got during the same time (BOGO deal) is my daily driver and it always receives the OTA updates right away.
I've searched online for the firmware files to flash in ODIN but I can't seem to find the firmware files for the AT&T version.
Does anyone have a link to the latest firmware files for the AT&T S10+ (non 5g) or know of a way to force the OTA update?

AT&T firmware is hard to come by as it's not on Sam moblie. Most of the time you have to buy it from pay sites. I used gsm 2 file .com here:

I would recommend going no higher than Android 10. Even with Android 10 you will lose some app functionality such as Karma Firewall's valuable logging feature, it will no longer work.
Pie is reasonably secure, I have 2 N10+'s, one running on 9, one on 10. The one running on 9 will remain there as it's useful for troubleshooting more so than the Q variant.
With Android 11 comes cpu cycle sucking scoped storage and forced encryption which is security overkill at the cost of performance and functionality. Scoped storage isn't active on Android 10 nor is forced encryption from what I've observed. If your device is running well, fulfilling its mission on Pie I wouldn't risk upgrading to Q. Benefits are minimal. I would recommend using Karma Firewall if you stay on Pie for better security. Karma Firewall may also be able to block the update app which give you another way to neuter this pest, but not as reliable as a package block.
To stay on Pie you simply disable the app shown below either by using Package Disabler (PM me for the link) or a adb edit to disable it. Those are the only ways to do so.
If the update does download clearing the system cache on the boot menu before it starts to install should delete it. I haven't tested this but was told this, it may or may not work. If it does install the Android 11 update there's no way to roll it back as it will update the bootloader as well locking you to only being able to flash/upgrade to 11 or higher, beware.
This is the OTA update app.

General ColorOS Experience

Hello All
i have Oneplus 10 PRO Chines version, i am the 2nd owner, i got it pre-installed with oxygenOS, i have tried to enable call recording and it succeeded only with root magisk which affected my banking Apps. also one of my banking apps never open with/without root as it was affected with the unlocked bootloader.
i have decided to move to ColorOS and i was surprised, the OS is very stable, it has built in call recording, the phone Battery has a huge improvement over the OxygenOS i am using the phone almost all the time and the battery percentage barely drops. the OS comes with many chines apps which i removed 90% of it. the battery icon change to green when i connect normal charger and change to blue when i connect the 80W charger. it has a built in Mail app which helps me with my work Email in separate app then Gmail, and i feel the phone is more smooth. and i got ride of the orange warning after locking the bootloader.
one note, google services is supported, i only had to download google play store and install it manually.
the below is the steps for migrating from OxygenOS to ColorOS.
1- Downgrade to OxygenOS 12 A17 4.2 GB
2- Install ColorOS 12 A13 6.6 GB
3- OTA ColorOS to 12 A19 about 5.5 GB
4- OTA ColorOS to 13 about 6.5 GB
5- OTA ColorOS to 13 11_C_28 "this is the Latest OTA" 1.5 GB
Warning I have followed a guide here which downgrade to OOS 12 then upgrade directly to COS 13, and my SIM cards did not work neither connecting the phone to PC, i had to use the above yes huge amount of wasted bandwidth but safe and functional.
i wanted to share my experience to help the others, IMPORTANT my phone is Chines N2210 so it comes with ColorOS and it is safe to install it, i don't know if you can install ColorOS on different models. i did not test it and i will not recommend it.
I really recommend testing ColorOS. I'm using C.52 and liked oppo apps. The only reason i sometimes i think go back to OOS, its my language, ColorOS dont have portuguese.

COS has a bunch more spyware. As far as the banking apps, you can hide root access to apps individually.
Can I install it on a NE2215?

are you sure you did it properly? if all you did was install magisk and configure denylist, you did not do everything possible.
you have to use AND ALSO configure 2 additional magisk modules. in addition, you should clear data for a few android services. research a little better and you will pass literally any root check for any app, including banking, market trading, literally anything. it hides bootloader unlock as well as root. the only thing we cannot ever get is full widevine access for full HD netflix (but this is due to OnePlus screwing something up, not because root access and unlock cannot be properly hidden)
you need to look into installing AND CONFIGURING "Universal SafetyNet Fix", AND "MagiskHide Props Config". you can learn how online. good luck.
Can you share the link for ColorOS 12 A13?, I already downloaded a version from 4pda But it doesn't show up in the local update.
Now I'm wondering if I can directly use the coloros rollback to switch roms
How go back to OOS?
Hi, I'm also having the same device NE2210. My bootloader is relocked by the seller.
To go back to Color OS do I need to unlock the boot loader? and follow your instructions.
Did you relocked the bootloader after installed the colorOS ?
