Fingerprint sensor, pin every 3 days - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

I am using fingerprint sensor for unlocking P10 phone, but every three days I have to unlock the phone with pin.
Can I somehow extend this period of three days or do not use pin security at all?

That's strange, cause the 3 days asking for PIN is part of EMUI.
And for OP, no currently you can not change it.

I am not facing this problem at all. Maybe i did unlock my phone with pin unintentionally within three days

It works until the third day. After I unlock the phone the third day, everything is OK for next three days. There must be an option to regulate this feature.

I got the same problem, it shocked me the first time I saw it but after a while I already get used to it. As long as I never rebooted my phone for 3 days, it will start asking for PIN but only once which I think I can still accept this.

For me it is quite stupid feature. ?

I also try to disable on honor 8 but i have not found anything, this option is really annoying and useless...

Its a built in feature so that user don't forget the password.

I have a long pin , I already find it annoying to have to enter it after a restart. But now every 3 days is just f retarded.... Instead of extra security now I'm thinking of removing it or shortening it.... Desired effect huh....

What a f. stupid feature. ...Especially that it appears suddenly, without warning. ...for example when you're in hurry and need to quickly unlock your phone. ...and then you realize that you have ~20 letters password, and only one hand available... FUU.....^%$#$#!!!11oneone

I ended up disabling fingerprint lock and every other lock all together because this was so annoying, well done Huawei now in order to be convenient my phone is LESS secure, PLEASE reverse this in the next update or my next phone will be by a different manufacturer, the fingerprint lock was and IS good enough on its own without this annoyance.

I'm not sure how this is so annoying for people really. Change it to a 4 digit pin if you have a stupidly long password. It is just an additional layer of security.

Because it is, just because is isn't for you doesn't mean we should all accept that it must be fine then, because YOU think it's ok, it's not ok for some of us and we should at least have the option to disable it and not have it forced upon us.

HELP! Locked phone, no password has been inserted

Dear all,
I have a strange problem with my Diamond.
Due to the fact that i have set my diamond to reset itself every night at 5 am, i have removed the PIN feature, so when it reboots i will be able to receive phone calls (when i wake up in the morning), because it happened that i wake up late and miss phone calls.
Today, everything worked just fine, BUT, i have a Password screen (Start settings lock), although NO PASSWORD was inserted. I tried the old password, but it doesn't work.
I can receive calls, but if i miss one, i can't see who called. It's just like my phone wanted and inserted a password by itself.
Can i do something, without hard resetting my phone? Any idea is a good idea. I am willing to try everything, so i won't loose my sms's, phone book, and everything else.
Thanks for brainstorming with me
Later edit:
It seems that i can sync the phone, it doesn't ask me to unlock the device. WTF?!? Virus?
Can i registry edit the removing of the password? Can i do it via my pc?
Another later edit:
So,... i'm in the password screen, as before . I noticed something strange: When i remove the stylus, it inserts a character, as if i type one, but actually i'm not.
Below the text field i have the following: 0 and a reverse timer now dropping from 2 minutes.
You should be able to bypass it by ActiveSync, and if you can't then .. du du duhhh i dont know lol.
Is this a PIN code or a Phone lock code?
Try your user manual it'll tell you the default code. If its PIN you need to look for your operators default pin (normally 4-8 0s) or if its a PHONE code then i actually have no clue what HTCs default is.. or if there even is one?
I detect a hard reset...

It's NOT a PIN code,... it's a HTC code (start ->settings -> LOCK) i have that screen.
The problem is that i haven't activated that option, and the old code ain't working (or i am not remembering correctly)
Do me a favour mate..
Pull out your battery.
Now put it back in and turn the phone on.
Still locked?

HELP : Phone asking for PIN instead of Fingerprints after MarshMallow update.

Hi,
I'm in need of help urgently!
Last week I had updated my Note 5 to MarshMallow and it was working fine. I remember the phone had never been off or restarted after the update until today when the battery ran out. Connected to charger and when I turned on the mobile it showed this message :
"Enter PIN instead of using fingerprint recognition after restarting device to protect fingerprints"
Now I've been unlocking screen using fingerprints from the time I got this phone. Unfortunately, I forgot the PIN and now I can't use fingerprints to unlock the screen. After a few failed attempts the wait time keeps increasing and now it has reached 30 minutes.
Is there anyway I can unlock my phone?
Please help ASAP!
Login into this website using your Samsung account
findmymobile.samsung.com/mindex.jsp
Find "Unlock my device" section
And make sure your device is connected to the internet then unlock you device

On the MM build, after a reboot you have to use the pin but subsequent times will be fingerprint, I have no idea why they did this. Sorry that happened to you, I have no idea how to get around that other than to keep searching, someone else had had that happen I'm sure.
Yep, I'm screwed, too...
I even kept a list of every iteration of PIN numbers I would ever use (they are generated by an algorithm). I have tried every one - and I am still locked out - with 60 minutes in between tries!
I have very, very important legal documents, notes, and recordings on my phone that I didn't get to backup yet. Unfortunately, most backups do not "dig" well enough under App directories to get all files generated by all Apps. So sad...
And "No", I can't access any sdcard or SIM bc it's an S6 edge+, and they are all locked into the case! The supposed Samsung "unlock" feature does not work, though it says it does.
Dying here! HELP...

You're screwed really and this is why a lot of devs on here say to make backups! Your only option at this point is a firmware reinstall..

But without root, I can't find a backup that will catch all the files well nested under App directories. With root, there are too many "gotchas" nowadays.
Besides, I know I have tried every PIN I would have ever set - so this MM "PIN" is a joke! There should have been a warning, as this is a serious disruption of service.
Wiping is just not an option - I have files created Friday, before the Upgrade, which would not have gotten backed up anyway. Besides, No update should block data access. One of you Gurus can't think of a workaround or push Samsung or Google for a fix? I'm thinking more like "Class Action Lawsuit" for disrupting normal access to my data and my lawsuit...
Anyone else that pissed?

You need to learn to "manually" back your stuff up yourself and don't rely on any programs/apps to do it...
There's seriously nothing the dev community could do because for 1 it's not the right way to go about this because if someone's phone is stolen or whatever basically they'd be able to come to XDA-Developers and find a way around the phone being locked for 2 that's definitely not what devs do, we don't look for ways to break into a phone or circumvent the security. You should have backed up anything you knew was important, simple as that .. You need to factory reset at this point. Sorry.

Fingerprints issue

Hi to all, I'm a new owner of moto g5s plus . I have a problem with the fps, recognize the fingerprint I recorded and when I try to pass another finger on the sensor I get the error message, but at the same time allows me to unlock the device. A sequence is set as backup to the fingerprint unlock.
I use to different fingers as well and I don't have unlocking issues. Just retry again until you knocked it off. GL

Already tried several times. If you use the registered fingerprint unlocks my phone then not enter the visual sequence, instead if I use another finger, the visual sequence appears to me. I thought that with the wrong fingerprint the sequence did not appear and the phone remained completely blocked until the registered fingerprint was recognized
EDIT: In Safe Mode it works and after that it works in Normal Mode too!!!:laugh::laugh:

I's not solved...after a while gives back to me the same problem.
Hey guys, what I have to do? Motorola suggested me to bring the device to a collection center and then proceed with the repair...I have a feeling that it's just a software problem and they hand me back the phone as before.
Try doing hard reset make sure you have backup first. Then try registering your fingerprint again. If it doesn't work, bring it to service center

Hi jdesignz, I have seen that you have the same model. At the support said me that is normal this beahvior. I I was convinced that instead the screen should not even turn on if I tried to unlock with another fingerprint, as happens on other models...To you the same thing happens?
I assigned and use two different finger on the fingerprint to unlock my device. Both works fine. Never had issues yet since day one.
Sent from my Moto G⁵ˢ Plus (XT1805)
No problems here too.
I've registered two fingerprints and if I touch it with one of those two it unlocks (almost all of the time).
If you use an unknown fingerprint, after some tries it shows the backup unlock method.
Also after some days it requires to unlock using the backup method for some (unknown) safety reason

PIN changed by itself

Strange thing happened this morning. I woke up and went to access my VZN Note 9 and my PIN code would not work. I have not changed it and it's been the same since I got it in September. The Biometric scanning allowed me to access the phone, but I could not do anything that needs the PIN. I checked for system updates and sure enough there was a "security patch" update #9 dated 3/29/19. Well I know if I restart the device it will require a PIN to access it again. So I backed it up, twice, and then let the system update install since I read that sometimes when people restarted that the PIN started working again. Well, nope...it wanted whatever the magically changed PIN was to be entered. At that point I had given up and started entering random codes to see if anything would work knowing that when I hit 10 attempts it would reset the phone. About 7 or 8 tried into it, I put the original PIN in and all of a sudden if freaking worked. I thought maybe there was a app with an update last night that took administrator access and went all rogue, but I don't see anything that really could/would do that. Anyone else experience this?
any security aps that require their own pin on that note?
Roboform, Audio Manager/Hide It Pro and they have the same PIN as the unlock.

How do I require pin at startup

I have a Pixel 4 XL and just like I had on the Note 8 I would like to require a pin at startup. I know the phones encrypted already but I would like that extra layer of security. Does anyone know if such a thing exists on my Pixel 4 XL and could you point me in the right direction please. I've been looking everywhere on settings and I can't find it if it's there. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

Do you mean in addition to face unlock, you also want a pin to unlock the screen? Or do you just want a PIN to unlock the screen? I don't think the first question is possible without and app or mod. The second one would just require you to not use face unlock, and use a PIN/pattern instead. Hope I explained that clear enough :good:

I believe you need to have a locked bootloader and the phone be encrypted for that option to appear after setting pin/pattern/password lock option. I could be wrong and this could be completely removed for this phone. I unlock bootloader day 1 but I don't see the option

Good chance our phone doesn't do it if you're completely stock and the option isn't there.
Edit: found this regarding the pixel and I imagine it's accurate for the 4.

You get a prompt on that phone before the lock screen and android boot? Pin after reboot is there and requires you apply the pin/pattern/password after the phone restarts but that's AT the lock screen and not BEFORE it.
Edit: booted up my recently wiped 2xl and the option isn't there in settings either. I think you're referencing pin after reboot to get through the lock screen, which exists. I'm talking about pin to boot the phone, which is before android even boots up.

Yes it is. The new encryption works the following way, if you have your device powered off:
Secure-Start on Stock Android is default ever since the Android 10 update. It can't be deactivate, thus no longer be activated manually.
Until the lock screen appears on pixel 4/4XL, the device simply boots the stock system partition without loading user data, since Android 10 uses a more recent technology for encryption.
If the PIN is then entered on the lock screen, the user data is decrypted, and only then. If you have many apps and/or folders on the home screen of the Launcher, this is especially noticeable, because the first login and building of the home screen then takes much longer than on older Android versions.
There may still be OEMs that change this specific new Android behavior. This is very stupid IMHO. Because if an OEM deliberately disables secure-start as default setting and lets the user decide, it leads to confusion. Just think about it, if a user reads the above change and thinks "oh my device is already in that mode", he wouldn't even look for this option to enable it and run unencrypted.

PIN on booting phone is where you set a SIM PIN so the SIM has to be unlocked on boot.
Greetings. I have a similar problem. My phone starts everything every time I turn it on. All network connections are active. GSM, WIFI, Bluetooth. The pc connection also works! I don't want to enter a sim pin code! There is currently an incoming call even if I do not enter the unlock code. So the phone works on its own without permission! I want the phone to do nothing until I enter the pin code. This is currently just a screen lock, I switch any form. There is no obstacle protection. You can answer a call after stealing your phone! All you need is another sim card. This is not security! My phone Honor 20 is independent. Thanks for the help!
